Handling of emails in Snow leopard

Dear All,
I have recently made the transition form PC (Very happy BTW). Anyway I have one "Issue". On the PC if I opened my mail program, emails would download and I would read and then delete. If I then opened mail on my iphone the deleted emails were not downloaded. Excellent.
However now on my mac. Even when I delete the emails in mail on the mac pro the same emails still show up on my iphone. Can anyone suggest why and what I can do to stop this?
Thanks
Josh

In the 'Advanced' section of the 'Accounts' prefs in Mail, you should check the box:
*Remove copy from server after retrieving a message*
Then choose the setting you desire from the dropdown menu underneath.

  • How can I delete the Auto-Fill Cache For My Email in Snow Leopard?

When I start to type an email in Snow Leopards Mail program I am getting the Auto-Fill selection but it contains email addresses that are no longer valid and have been deleted from my contacts.  It must be getting the information from a cache file is what I am guessing.
    How do I fix this?

Look in Mail > Windows > Previous Recipients.

  • Will Lion install correctly handle multiple accounts from Snow Leopard?

Will Lion install correctly handle multiple accounts from Snow Leopard? Will current settings, DOCS etc be carried over?

I found the solution to my problem after I upgraded and it lies with the X509 Anchors.
SOLUTION:  Go to /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security-common.plist (it may be a hidden file) and change it to /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security-common.plist.bak.  This should remove the system calling to old outdated anchors and allow it to use the new security protocols under Lion's sandboxing feature.
It worked for me and mail runs fine.

  • Is it possible to use emoji with email on snow leopard

Is it possible to use emoji with email on snow leopard?

Probably not, since those are Lion/ML items and SL doesn't have them. That's my WAG.

  • Why has sending email in snow leopard stopped working

mail on my older intel mac machines cannot send mail. Asking the "geniuses" at apple store hasnt helped. It worked once to delete account and re add. I am using mac.com. .me.com. I have to go to icloud to send mail. .PIMA.
Whats up apple? Can someone help? This is a problem on both a desktop IMAC and a MacBook, both white plastic varieties. Both are fully updated to snow leopard.

ps. .the one time it worked to send email from my laptop was at the apple store. does their wifi have special magical powers?

Question 2, yes I think so (joking)  Go to mail preferences and make sure that your outgoing mail server (SMTP) is set to the correct address (server), not none.

  • Setting up iCloud email on Snow Leopard Machine and Outlook

    HI, all-
I have an older MacBook Air running Snow Leopard that won't support Lion.  I've seen two or three posts out there telling me how to set up my iCloud emial on my non-Lion machine, but none of them are working.  Besides multilpe password issues, which I'm not getting anymore, I'm now getting "the server returned the error: The connection to the server p02-imap.mail.me.com on port 143 timed out".  Any ideas???
Also-the directions for setting up my IMAP iCloud email in Outlook 2007 are very simple and clear, yet it does not work.  During 'test account settings' in the account setup, I'm getting two errors:
    1.  Log onto incoming mail server (IMAP)-the connection to the server failed
    2.  Send test email message: None of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your sever.
Any help would be appreciated!  PS- on my MBAir I'm running OSX 10.6.8
    Thanks,
    Chris

Port 143 is incorrect, read the instructions contained in the link Julian posted

  • Receiving email after Snow Leopard upgrade

Everything works fine after Snow Leopard upgrade 10.6.2 except I cannot RECEIVE email. I have checked with Comcast and verified my settings for both incoming and outgoing POP mail.

Hello and welcome to the Discussions.
I had no problems of this sort when upgrading to Snow Leopard or 10.6.2. Were you already running Snow Leopard in an earlier version, or did you upgrade from Tiger (10.4.11) directly to SL 10.6.2?
Quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library/Mail. Locate any files named to include MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded. At the root level of the Mail folder you should find one named MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3, but look in each POP account folder also. There if you find any other, including MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 delete them from each POP account folder -- they are not used in versions of Mail later than 2.1.3.
    Relaunch Mail and test.

  • Custom HTML email in Snow Leopard?

    Hi
In Dreamweaver CS3, I've created an HTML page for email, so how do I get it (with its 2 jpg pics as well) over to MAIL, Snow Leopard and make it to where all text, format and pics can be sent to various email addresses?
    Thanks very much
    K

Thanks very much for all the replies...I tried opening it in Safari and then sending to MAIL, that worked and even looked right, but when I sent it to myself to test, none of the graphics appeared. I take it that's because the folder/files were on my local hard drive not a server.
So I'll put everything on a server and see if that works.
Meanwhile, I tried also to save as stationary (without the graphics since they didn't show) and for some reason it didn't work, wouldn't save a "custom" folder...under system library/Application Support/Apple/Mail/Stationary/Apple/Contents/resources couldn't find this new custom folder - wonder.

  • Problems importing email from Snow Leopard Mail into Lion Mail

I've recently moved from a MacBook Pro 1,1 running Snow Leopard to a new MacBook Pro running Lion.  I had the folks at the Apple Store do the set up - they migrated everything from my old to my new.
Everything is where it should be and most everything works, except Mail.
I have about 90 GB (yes, I know) of stuff in the Mail folder and every time I try to import the old emails into Lion Mail the process stalls out.  And when I try to restart I have twice as many emails and I lose 10+ GB of hard drive space. I've gone from having 110GB available to 50 GB in two days and I still don't have access to my old emails.
I've deleted the envelope files, the smart mailbox files, deleted old attachment files and other cruft still floating around the Mail folder but my last attempt at importing stalled out and quit after getting halfway through.
    Any suggestions or ideas?  Help!

Thanks.... I actually managed to find nearly 70 GB of attachements and trashed emails which apparently Apple Mail still keeps in the Mail folder.  I'm trimming now and I'll try another import this evening. In related news, my system is working much much faster now.

  • Blank, non-loading emails in Snow Leopard Mail

    Hi,
I'm really confused. I am upgrading to a new computer, an iMac i5, and just transferred my main IMAP-based mail account.
Some messages - it seems to be messages with attachments only - are displaying blank.
They load up fine on my backup machine - a Powerbook G4 running Tiger 10.4.11 - but simply won't display on Mail 4.2.
Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this behaviour?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jamie

    Hi,
I'm sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear. I have no issue sending attachments. Its receiving them.
The issue you have is I believe caused by a failure in other mail readers to correctly parse an attachment which is placed 'inline' by Mail - usually if your recipient is on a PC. It works both ways - sometimes a PC attachment appears on a Mac as 'winmail.dat' if it has been placed inline, and putting it at the end of the mail sometimes helps the program to interpret it better; a more reliable alternative is a ZIP file.
But the problem I have is with received emails.
The same mails display fine on Tiger - so its something specific to my Leopard machine, or on the way from the server.
Other emails with attachments from the same client work fine, and this has happened with more than one client. They are both on PCs but its not specific to one client.
My working presumption is that there is an issue caused by the laptop and the desktop both trying to access the IMAP database at the same time. This used to cause mailbox lockups in POP servers, with very different results - the send/receive authentication would then fail and the ISP might have to reset the mailbox.
However this is not borne out by the fact that (a) I have a Palm pre which is continually accessing the same database and (b) I've never seen this issue on the laptop either before or after the desktop started accessing things.
Nonetheless I will try for the present to keep the laptop signed out so the desktop is the only computer accessing the database, and see where that gets me.
If anybody has any help with regard to the underlying reason why the email might display completely blank, I would be very grateful as this might help identify the cause of the problem.

  • TS3276 mobileme email in Snow Leopard after June

I have a mobileme account with a further 3 names added using mail only. Because of legacy I cannot move to OS Lion at the moment. Can we still use our mac.com/me.com email addresses after June without signing up to icloud. If one or more of the email only account holders update to Lion and icloud, can they transfer their emai accounts without the main account holder doing so. If we all have other apple devices ie iphone and ipads, and sign up to icloud, can we then use our mobile me mail addresses also on our OS Leopard macs.

You can still do the migration to iCloud even if you don't have Lion. But only your e-mail can still work/synch.
You will lose your accounts otherwise if you don't migrate.

  • Wrong name shows on emails in Snow Leopard email program

My emails are suddenly appearing to come from a name mentioned in an email but one that has not ever in my addressbook instead of my own. Since I volinteer for this person, it is very embarrassing for Her name(misspelled) to show up as the person who sent email from my computer instead of my own name. How do I fix this?

  • Was I really able to transfer a virus by email in Snow Leopard?

This week I sent an email from my mac to a friend that was returned unopened. I had attached nothing to the email but in his reply he said he couldn't view the mail as it was flagged as carrying a virus. I was obviously surprised and checked a folder of audio samples that I had on my macbook which I considered to be the only questionable data. I ran the folder on my pc virus scan and it detected a number of files infected with the Gedza.B virus.
As these files were already on my macbook, and as I had sent mail through os x mail app, could it be that the virus was able to attach to an email I sent? Looking at the virus it seems to be windows only but from the chain of events I describe, what am I to conclude? I also see a mention of another user having this virus and stating it had an affect on his os x mail app.
I find it hard to believe but is it possible for me to pass on a virus in this way on os x?
    Any input would be appreciated.

    To follow up:
From what I remember it was a .vbs file within a Reason (Propellerhead audio software) Refill. I had previously assumed that this was a audio type file and double-clicked it in os x to preview it but nothing happened that was apparent. As my friend had told me i had sent him a virus I copied all my samples onto a formatted pen drive and then went to my pc and scanned the pen drive. It showed 8 instances of the virus in total - it looked like it found a couple of infected .vbs files and some mp3.
I have since reformatted my macbook, but I received an odd email today from another person in my address book that has no text and only an attachment. I've never seen this before -that i remember- so I've obviously not opened it and have sent him a query as to why there was no text and only attachment. Maybe this is just coincidence...
