Hands on practice for OCP 10g

Hi all… I don’t know whether I am posting this message to a wrong forum.
Though I am not a regular writer here but I used to get knowledge through this forum. Next week I am going to do OCP 10g administration paper II but I have some doubts. I know that only after finishing this exam I will not get certificate until and unless I do the hands on practice course. Do I have to do this course after clearing exam or before? Now I am working in UAE here all educational courses are not affordable so can I do this in India I mean is it possible to write the exam in one country and do the hands on practice in different country? Is there any time limit which I have to finish these hands on practice after clearing this exam? Hope I will get the needful…Thanking you all…
Regards…

You will not get the OCP certification until after you have completed the course requirements. There is form you need to fill out in order to show you have met the requirements.
http://www.oracle.com/global/us/education/certification/handsoncourse_form.html
As far as a time limit, you generally have until the exam is retired in order to meet the requirements. Oracle announces the retirement dates for exams well in advance.
I do not believe Oracle is concerned about where you take the course requirement, they are concerned more with the class an who presents the material.

  • Help..Oracle could not trace my WDP hands on course for OCP 10g

    Dear All,
Can somebody on Oracle (OTN team) could help me to validate & check my WDP hands on course as below detail :
    Class Name :
ORACLE DATABASE 10G: ADMINISTRATION WORKSHOP II RELEASE 2 - WDP (D17092GC31S)
    Location : CV Informit Indonesia
    Student Id : 62156
    Student Name : Zulfirman
    Schedule : 25 March 2011 - 10 April 2011
    (10 sessions @ 3 Hours)
I have put above information on VUE, but then come up an email response from oracle asking my hardcopy certificate course.
I have contacted the INFORMIT, they said it takes 2 up to 3 month to get the certification from OU indonesia.
Since it take long time to get the training certification, I come back emailing the oracle to ask for speed up, then they said they need to check further about my training detail.
FInally they come up with an email that asking me to ask INFORMIT to email the oracle confirming that i have already completed that course.
Worstly, i have not in that city anymore where the INFORMIT located, but i drop informit an email just now to forward oracle request to them.
    Question :
    1. Can someone help me to validate my training instead of waiting oracle with the emailing back - forward ?
2.Why ORacle unable to trace my detail WDP class above ? Is it because of a cheap WDP training so they dont provide a connected server between WDP training provider & OU or Oracle headquarter ?
    3. The Hardcopy certification for WDP student take too long. What is the std lead time for WDP student to have thier training certifiaction ?
    Thank You,
    Zulfirman,PMP,OCA

    Hi Brandye Barrington,
    No,
they didnt provide me an exam voucer. For your info, i have already passed all the exam required for OCP track.Which is an indicator of something not right. Mabe not your fault. Maybe the Institution. Maybe WDP.
My goal to get this training is to refresh me about the topic & to claim my OCP status.
you can check my exam history using my ORacle Testing ID (or Oracle Certification Program ID): XXXXXXXXXXWell you've just 3.2 (iv) No Misconduction of the http://education.oracle.com/education/pdf/ocp_candidate_agreement_V0810.pdf of the agreement you make before taking this exam by disclosiing your Oracle Testing Id to another person ... aka the whole internet!
    >
    For your info,
I hve just got confirmation from my WDP training centre (Informit). They have emailed "[email protected]" to confirm that i have officialy registered with WDP training centre by showing to them (them = oracle) the screen shot or print screen of regsitration form from WDP website, where my name alrady been registered inside the WDP system.
Ho Ho Ho !! The WDP training center are well enoughton the ball to know that email address have been withdrawn. ( http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/2011/03/email_alias_ocpexam_wworacleco.html ).
Perhaps that document does show a registration number.
Now i can only wait, wheter oracle still could not accpet that email from INFORMIT as a proof or i have to wait for my certification hardcopy (take 2 or 3 months ahead)
Emails can be faked. And I am reasonably certain a percentage of WDP Training centers would not apply the rules properly if they could get away with it.
If i still have to wait for the scan hardcopy certification, then for sure, i really upset with ORACLE, due they could not manage best communication & sychronization database between ORACLE - WDP TRanining Centre, & me as a unlucky candidate due to their bad communication on both system.
IMHO I can see from this and other threads that WDP or the training centers fail to publish clear and precise information of what is involved so the students can authoratively check on an oracle website. IMHO The WDP Traiing centers have a degree of control which they can use to mislead students.
And I assume you have access to the following :: https://workforce.oracle.com/pdf/html_rd/wdp_stu_reg.html?wdp0 ... and if not why not ? ( I dont .. i am not WDP).
If ORACLE is a great database company, then they must already predict such issue in early as possible instead of waiting such complaint raised in.
Oracle is Great. Larry is Great. Any Oracle RDBMS version with a zero in it may be a bad vintage.
But IMHO you may be right wrt WDP.
Again, Pls help me on this..
    Besr Regards,
Zulfirman,PMP,OCAWhen one does training at OU the attendance is properly recorded and there are nless real issues with attendance not being recorded.
With WDP institutions as far as I can tell this is not perhaps as well auditted and there is perhaps room for shenanigans; faked attendance, etc.
As far as i know when WDP was started (oracle 9i) the students used to have to attend the whole track of a specially constructed coiurse to get the credi ( I used to call it a never mind the quality feel the width training). And the training was spread to ensure the pupil had time to absorb the training. And it might be taught by non Oracle Professionals. WDP can however now be used for a single session set of part of track being sufficient for the training requirement (This may be simply a never mind the quality appreciatethe cheapness approach).
This may all seem off topic for you.
However please realise Oracle Certification (whcih operates independently of WDP who do there own thing) need to establish training has been properaly attended. And if there is a loophole many WDP candidates wll rush towards it.
This however does give me a chance to kick Oracle to ensure WDP has its house in order.

The above page discusses the recommended training. But need to takle that training is 'recommended'[, not explicitly included/excluded.

The above page is for fresh OCP and does not discuss OCP upgreade at all. (It DOES discuss OCM upgrade.)

Thanks in advance.Okay ... the first thing to realise is here are several Oracle Certified Professional Certifications.
And you do not mention which one you are interested in!
IMHO For a Pl/SQL OCP the express edition would probably be suitable for practicing most topics.
While for a DBA OCP using the IMHO using express edition would not be best practice.
... Please be aware, and this is only my opinion, that compared to some years ago there are probably a lot more people trainied and practiced with Oracle, and an OCP certification without experience may be insufficient to find a job.

    Thanks,

For exam/certification disscussions, I suggest the [Certification forum|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=459].
By preparation I assume you refer to the topics of the [1Z0-040 exam|http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=1001&lang=US&p_exam_id=1Z0_040#3].
For "strictly self-educational purposes", take a look at the OTN downloads license and consider using EE (or PE perhaps) install, supposed you need full features for the managebility stuff, tuning advisors, partitioning, RMAN functionality, etc.

I have hands on experience for Oracle 10g on Linux.
I am nowt planning to get Oracle Certification to recognize my expertise globally. I just need to know, I am busy all day in office can take out couple of hours to study regarding certification. Where from can I get the helping material to study? How many papers I have to pass and what are the rates for online exams? Above all is there any discount i can get because this is the only way I can achieve my target. Taking out paper amount from monthly salary is almost impossible.

  • Regarding  OCP-10g Exams Certification

    Dear Team,
I am planning for OCP-10g Exams (042/043). I have done OCA 9i (DBA Track) last year.
With my current Project recommendation, I am going to attend "Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g: Manage Clusterware and ASM Release 2" training by Oracle University on 11-Apr-2011.
As per compulsory Training Program for OCP-10g, do I need to take any other Training related to Oracle 10g or the above training (11g) will be suffice for OCP-10g Certification (If I complete Exams 042/043)
Kindly update me, so that I can plan accordingly.
    Thanks,
    Tusar

    Thanks Bigdelboy for you reply..
So, what do you suggest regarding the certification which one would be better 10g OCP(1z0-042/043) or directly 11g OCP(1zo-052/053)?
    Thanks,
TusarIncreasingly an 11g DBA OCP certification will be preferable to a 10g DBA OCP certification.
Most sites will be looking to upgrade existing 10g databases to 11g databases over the next couple of years, and relatively few sites will have 10g and not be looking to upgrade.
I would say the following reasons are why someone would want to go for 10g DBA OCP rather than 11g DBA OCP.
    (1) They have attended training which is a suitable qualifying course for 10g DBA OCP but not for 11g DBA OCP. This can be a very important (big money) reason.
    (2) They are very familiar with 1z0-043 topics that are relevant to 10 DBA OCP but less familiar with 1z0-053 topics.
    (3) They wish to get both certifications via 1z0-042 - 1z0-043 - 1z0-050 for instance (you could also do 1z0-052+1z0-053 instead of 1z0-050). Obvioulsy this takes time and expense.
In general I suspect study for 1z0-052 might take a number of people a little longer than 1z0-042, and the study for 1z0-053 might take maybe a couple of weeks longer than for 1z0-043.
    Overall the choice is yours.

  • 10g course completion of sql, admin1 and admin2, want to sit for ocp 11g

    Hi all:
I have completed my courses for sql, admin 1 and admin 2 for oracle 10g.
I want to sit for the ocp 11g exam.
What should be the optimum/best/fastest way to sit for ocp 11g.
    Please help......

Your post indicates that you have attended 10G courses, but not whether you have passed any certification tests. It is also not clear from your post whether the courses you took were from vendors that are accepted by Oracle for the hands-on requirement for an OCP. 10G courses, from an approved vendor or not, do not count directly towards the 11G OCP certification. In my reply I'm going to make two assumptions:
1 -- You have not taken any certification tests yet. This may not be true, but I would think that you'd have mentioned them rather than just the training if you had.
2 -- The training you took is from an approved vendor.
If the above two assumptions are true, then the "fastest way to sit for ocp 11g" is:
Take (and pass) the following exams to become an Oracle 10G OCP:
    1Z0-051 -- Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I
    1Z0-042 -- Oracle Database 10g: Administration I
    1Z0-043 -- Oracle Database 10g: Administration II
Then complete the Oracle Education course submission form for the appropriate course(s) that meet the hands on requirement.
Once you pass all three tests and the course is approved, you will have the Oracle 10G DBA Certification.
Then take (and pass) the following exam to become an Oracle 11G OCP:
1Z0-050 -- Oracle Database 11g: New Features for Administrators
Alternately, you can take an 11G course that meets the hands-on requirement and take the 11G specific tests. Since this is likely to cost more than taking one additional test and will mean that in the end you will only be 11G certified rather than 10G and 11G, I think the outline above is likely preferable.

  • Best practices for gathering statistics in 10g

I would like to get some opinions on what is considered best practice for gathering statistics in 10g. I know that 10g has auto statistics gathering, but that doesn't seem to be very effective as I see some table stats are way out of date.
I have recommended that we have at least a weekly job that generates stats for our schema using DBMS_STATS (DBMS_STATS.gather_schema_stats). Is this the right approach to generate object stats for a schema and keep it up to date? Are index stats included in that using CASCADE?
Is it also necessary to gather system stats? I welcome any thoughts anyone might have. Thanks.

    Hi,
Is this the right approach to generate object stats for a schema and keep it up to date? The choices of executions plans made by the CBO are only as good as the statistics available to it. The old-fashioned analyze table and dbms_utility methods for generating CBO statistics are obsolete and somewhat dangerous to SQL performance. As we may know, the CBO uses object statistics to choose the best execution plan for all SQL statements.
I spoke with Andrew Holsworth of Oracle Corp SQL Tuning group, and he says that Oracle recommends taking a single, deep sample and keep it, only re-analyzing when there is a chance that would make a difference in execution plans (not the default 20% re-analyze threshold).
I have my detailed notes here:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/art_otn_cbo.htm
As to system stats, oh yes!
By measuring the relative costs of sequential vs. scattered I/O, the CBO can make better decisons. Here are the data items collected by dbms_stats.gather_system_stats:
    No Workload (NW) stats:
    CPUSPEEDNW - CPU speed
IOSEEKTIM - The I/O seek time in milliseconds
IOTFRSPEED - I/O transfer speed in milliseconds
    I have my notes here:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_dbms_stats_gather_system_stats.htm
    Hope this helps. . . .

  • Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?

    Hi all,
I am lil bit confuse to decide about my oracle core dba certification.
Please help me to know, as per the present requirements of the business organizations.
    ***Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?***
Hope u guys answer me earliest.
    Thanks & Regards,

Most likely, it doesn't matter too much. I doubt that most employers are terribly concerned with what recent version of Oracle you have a certification on.
    That said, if it matters
    - What does your organization use? What are their plans to upgrade? If your company still uses 9.2 primarily and has plans to upgrade to 10.2 this year, you're probably better off with a 10g certification. If your company is already running mostly 11.2, you're probably better off with an 11g certification.
    - What do most employers in your particular part of the world tend to use? What do job postings in your particular part of the world generally list?
