Handwriting recognition with mac os

Hello all, I'm new in this forum and this is my first post.
Recently I bought a wacom graphic tablet and once installed I found that Mac OS X has a new pref pane with ink options for handwriting recognition. (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/inkwell/)
Due to a problem with my back I thought that it should worth a try just to change the position we normaly adopt when we are in front Of a computer. After all it it's includad with system, it should work.
It Is my fourth day working with it and it took more than 5 minwtes to CompoUse this message and some keyboard postditing but it is my frist public handwriten one
I´m rapidly adapting and it works!
When writing in english I go much faster than ih spanish Cos ink doesn't support spanish language in 10.4.9 so I have to write against ink engine that sugest english - like words.
And now Comes the question in my post:
Does anybody Know when will mac OS support spanish with ink?
Thahks all for the time of reading,
Francis Perea

  • Kanji (or Chinese characters) handwriting recognition with tablet (not trackpad)

    Hello,
I have a Wacom tablet and I would really like to use it to input Kanji by drawing them. I know there is an option to draw kanji with the trackpad and that works perfectly fine, but I don't find it very comfortable and since I have a tablet I would really like to use it for that purpose! And I can't find any way to use that trackpad option with my tablet!
I also know there are internet tools (and even a google app) that enable to draw them and get them recognized... But you need to copy-paste everything that you write, it is just so unpractical! I would just like to use my tablet in the same way that the trackpad drawing option works!
I know it is possible to use tablets to draw kanjis on windows computer, everyone says it around the internet... But I just cannot believe there isn't a possibility to do that with Macs too! Is it really the case? Is there not an extra "IME" or app to download that could enable this option?
    Thanks in advance!

Tegaki which is open source Chinese/Japanese handwriting recognition software that supports Mac OSX.
Not sure it supports Wacom tablet, though

  • Is there a document editor with handwriting recognition for IPad?

I want to be able to open a word document, and be able to actively edit content in it with a stylus and handwriting recognition. I am not talking about making notes on a PDF I mean real editing of a word document using handwriting recognition. Please don't waste my time and yours saying that there is a program where I can write notes on a picture or PDF file please.

    Did you try a reset?

  • Does the ipad 3 come standard with handwriting recognition or do we have to purchase an app for that.

I am wondering whether or not the IPAD 3 comes with handwriting recognition apps as standard, As I know Android tablets and phones come with it, and if Apples wants to be compeditive with Android smartphone and tabs, I thought they would have added it to the IPAD 3 IOS 6.

You have to install apps that supports handwriting. Some webpages like Google support that

  • Handwriting recognition

I have a Wacom tablet, want to use it with Ink to replace typing--but for some reason (maybe just me!?) I can't get it be any good.
Tried a Toshiba laptop in store, and the recognition did work, very easily and accurately. Is that program so much better?? Or what!? I was just lucky it was set up properly?
Am hoping someone can tell me which program(s) work most effortlessly and well, especially ones that work w/ Mac! (Was almost ready to buy Toshiba tablet!)

    Hi cd2,
You did not post your computer specs that you are trying to get Ink to work on with your Wacom tablet.
If you are using 10.3 (I'm pretty sure Ink worked in 10.2 but it has been quite awhile since I used 10.2) you should have no problem using Ink with your tablet.
From Mac OSX 10.3 Panther Help:
"Writing text with your graphics tablet
If you have a graphics tablet and stylus, you can use Ink technology to write text that your computer recognizes and turns into words. You can write anytime you're using your stylus, in your own handwriting. You can also use Ink to draw a sketch and insert it in any document that can display pictures.
With Ink you can use your stylus to write menu commands and keyboard shortcuts, allowing you to control your computer without using the mouse or keyboard.
When you have a Wacom graphics tablet connected to your computer, and the Wacom tablet software installed, the Ink icon appears in System Preferences. Turn on handwriting recognition, then click the Help icon on the Ink toolbar for more details."
Post back if that is not the problem but if you need further help please clarify what system you are trying to use the tablet and Ink with. Your computer specs and the OS version you are using.

  • Ink handwriting recognition and Adesso Tablet

I recently purchase an Adesso cyber tablet 8600. I have a Mac G4 Notebook
running OSX 10.4.6 Tiger. I purchased this product for the use of handwriting
recgnition. The box said it was Mac compatible with OSX and that I came
with Pen Soft Pro software. There was no such Mac software on the enclosed disk.
I know that Mac OSX has a handwriting recognition utility call Ink, but I cannot seem to make it active for this tablet. When I plug in the tablet to the usb port, ink does not show up on the systems preferences. I did download the appropriate driver for the tablet from Adesso. The tablet does work- I can use it like a mouse.
How can I get Ink to work with this tablet? Any solutions?

    Power Book G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi, Rayco. Welcome to the Discussions.
    1. Did you restart your Mac after installing the Adesso driver for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger?
    2. Adesso has no support info concerning compatibility with Mac OS X's Ink handwriting recognition application. In this FAQ on their site, they have some troubleshooting information, most of which applies to Windows. Some of the steps in the section entitled "The tablet doesn't work. (USB port)" can be used with a Mac, i.e. all except steps (e) and (g). Note that Mac OS X's Ink application is not one of the tested applications they site under point 4, "What programs have been tested..."
    3. If none of the above helps, contact Adesso as they claim to provide free technical support.
    Good luck!

There appears to be a problem with either the file where the account settings are stored or with the account settings themselves. The HTTPMail plug-in you have installed could have a bearing on this. Have you set up the same mail accounts on both computers? Is the right version of the plug-in installed on each of them?
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
    2. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    3. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this solves the problem).
    5. Open Mail. You’ll have to set up your non-.Mac accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done.
    6. You’ll have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    7. You may also need to re-install or re-enable any Mail plug-ins you have installed for Mail to recognize them.
    8. As a side effect of re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, Mail might rename Outbox (which is where messages waiting to be sent are stored) to Delivered. The name of that mailbox is actually a misnomer, as it would contain messages (if any) that couldn’t be delivered for some reason. You can delete that mailbox if you wish.
    9. If the problem is fixed now and .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Any recommendations for good handwriting recognition app?

I've got an HP G3110 scanjet scanner and I'll be importing diaries. Any suggestions for a good application to do OCR for handwriting ( HWR - handwriting recognition)?

I've grumbled quite a bit about Nike's handling of the Nike+ website, so it's nice to have something positive to say about the company...
I went into my local Apple store and picked up a pair of Nike Flight headphones (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/1184000/wo/484La pM6sv1k3FyDEJH2vRI3ZMv/1.0.19.1.0.8.25.7.11.3.3) and I've been pleasantly surprised. The sound quality is reasonably good, and they're comfortable for me while jogging. (Since I know it was an issue for me, I'll mention that I wear glasses, and these are comfortable for me to run in with my glasses on.)
Again, I'm not praising the sound quality as being stellar, just good enough. I still use my Grado headphones when at home. But the Nike's are comfortable while running, and they're reasonably priced.

  • Address Book won't stop synching with .mac

Address Book keeps Syncing with .mac even though I don't want it to and I did not extend the free .Mac trial.
I turned off "Synchronize my contacts with other computers using .Mac" in the Address Book preferences.
I can not however turn off "Synchronize with .Mac" in the .Mac preferences (it is dimmed) and even though it says "Manual" the Address books continues to sync and leaves me with an empty address book every day!!!!!
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Thanks for a quick response. I don't see a way to print the address and phone number on a mailing label either. Some people still like their paper address books and I thought printing labels would make it a lot easier to read and I could just print labels for Christmas cards - instead of handwriting them. nice thought, I guess.
(note to apple: please fix in your next update)

  • Handwriting recognition on the iPad?

    Hi,
Could anyone confirm whether the new iPad has handwriting recognition?
I am one of the few people who is keeping hold of my Palm Pilot because I think better when writing by hand (rather than typing on a keyboard). As iPad is designed to help people 'create', I can't think of a better feature. (To be honest, it's the lack of handwriting recognition that keeps me from going to the store now to buy one. I came close to buying a Dell Inspiron Duo the moment I saw it, but decided to wait for a lighter version (or an iPad)).
If there isn't the possibility now, is there any chance that handwriting recognition will be added in iOS 5 or as a separate application that can be used with iPad aps?

Handwriting recognition is not built into the iPad, no. There are some apps available that offer handwriting recognition; someone else here can probably offer comments and suggestions.
is there any chance that handwriting recognition will be added in iOS 5
There's the possibility of all sorts of things, but no one here will know or be able to say. We'll all have to wait and see. Given that iOS isn't designed around a stylus, and attempting to write with your fingertip yields less than satisfactory results in most cases, I would doubt that iOS will include handwriting recognition as a standard feature, but it could happen.
    Regards.

  • External Drive "unable to be modified" with Mac

    Hi,
I've just begun playing around with my laptop, but am running into problems while moving things around and off of my external hard drive.
Before my Mac that I just got today, I had a Gateway PC laptop that I used my external hard drive with. On the Mac, whenever I try to move a file to a new folder it says that it cannot be moved because the drive cannot be modified. Also, I can't create new folders or even delete things.
I think it has something to do with the formatting, but is there anything I can do that will NOT erase what I have on the hard drive? I have 200+ gigs of data on this drive and no where to temporarily place it while I reformat the drive.
Also, if I do have to reformat the drive, is there a format that works both with Macs and Windows, so I can still use it on friends' and parents' computers.

    Rachel,
Disk Utility is in your "Utilities" folder (of course). Here's how we do this:
    /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
Let's cover a few terms while we're at it... Disk Utility is rather like iTunes in the way it looks (in fact, most everything "Mac" has a lot of features similar to those in iTunes). The list at the left side of the Disk Utility window (as in iTunes) is called the "source list." In the case of DU, this list shows "devices" and "volumes" at the top. Below those would be shown recent "disk images" that DU may have created or handled (you won't have any, and "disk images" are something you won't encounter for at least a few hours ).
A "device" is something physical, like your Superdrive or internal hard drive, and a "volume" is a logical "container" for files that is created on a given device. Think of it like the trunk of your car (the device), and the organizer you place in that trunk (a volume). DU shows volumes indented below the device that contains them. Since a volume is a logical framework (we call it a "file system") that holds your files, it is actually written to the device.
Windows uses specific "logical frameworks" (NTFS, FAT-32), and Mac OS uses a somewhat different one (HFS+). The Mac OS can, however, read any of the Windows formats ('cause Macs are more better, as you've already found), and DU knows how to write those FAT-32 logical frameworks.
OK, moving on... DU does many things. It can format (erase) volumes, changing them while it's at it if desired, but it can also format or partition a device. There's a bit of a difference between the two, sometimes. For example, you can "zero" either a device or a volume (which means to write continuous zeroes to the entire volume or device, in addition to simply giving it a new framework). One either a device or a volume, this is something you would do to completely destroy whatever data is on the device/volume. If you do it with a device, however, you get the additional benefit of "mapping out" any bad blocks (like dead spots) on the drive. This comes in handy if you ever find you're having problems with your drive.
Another difference between devices and volumes is that devices can be "partitioned". This is when you create multiple volumes on a single device. These separate volumes would appear on the Desktop of your Mac as individual drives, but they all reside on the one device. And of course, they can be of different formats (on my Desktop, I currently have my HFS+ Mac startup disk, and another NTFS disk for Bootcamp, both of them on my internal hard drive).
DU also repairs (or attempts to) errors that might occur in that logical framework we've already covered. These happen for various reasons, most frequently if we have an improper shutdown (such as a power loss). When this happens, we can lose important data. DU attempts to locate the problem, then fix it.
Finally, Disk Utility is what we use to create and manage "disk images". These are single files that act as "virtual disks," and can be "mounted" and "ejected" just like real disks. This is something that you will encounter soon, I'm sure, but don't need to worry about right yet.
I'll continue in another post (yeeesh, am I long-winded sometimes)...

I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro with MAC OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto ’09 version 8.1.2 and have downloaded two software programs: one is Aperture 3.2 and the other is Photoshop Elements 9 (which I got from a friend who didn’t need it).
I am totally happy with the way iPhoto organizes my photos and how I can work with iMovie to create slide shows with music from iTunes, etc.
I have been shooting mostly high resolution jpegs and I continue to learn more and more about photography, post processing etc. I realize that the small adjustments I can make in iPhoto are good, and are adequate most of the time. However, a have started to experiment with shooting RAW images and would like to go the next step, ie. post processing.I am totally technically challenged and need SIMPLE, INTUITIVE programs and am certainly NOT anywhere ready for Photoshop CS whatever!
After having these programs sit on my computer, I decided to try to see if I could figure them out. When I opened Aperture, this is what first comes up.
    “Welcome to Aperture 3.2
Your library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of Aperture. Once upgraded, you will not be able to use this library with previous versions of Aperture.
Upgrading a library from previous versions of Aperture 3 generally takes a few minutes or less, though larger libraries will take longer. After that, Aperture 3.2 will upgrade your library's thumbnails, but you can use the application during that time.
Tip: To open a different library, quit Aperture and hold the Option key down while starting Aperture
    Current Library Location:
    Jadzia (home)   -----Pictures------Aperture Library
                                                      QUIT             UPGRADE”
I have heard horror stories  about moving your entire library to Aperture, ending up with 2 libraries, etc. etc. hence my previous reluctance in attempting Aperture. In addition, many of my photography friends are saying: Go with Lightroom 3.....you’ll love it!
So here is my dilemma.  I don’t want to mess around with my iPhoto library. All I want to be able to do, is to isolate a few photos, export them to Aperture, Elements, and work on them there, then bring them back into iPhoto.
Can I do this? Should I forget about Aperture and Elements and look at purchasing yet another program like Lightroom?

Export those few photos via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original to the Desktop.  Then import them into the Aperture library. That would keep one copy in your iPhoto library and another in your Aperture library to edit, etc.
You can use Photoshop Elements 9 from within iPhoto as your editor of choice. However, if you edit a raw file in iPhoto with PSE9 the resulting edited version must be saved outside the iPhoto Library and imported back in as a new file.  For editing jpegs just do a Save (not a Save As) and it all will be kept within iPhoto.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • WRT54GS with Mac OS 10.6.8 and RCN cable modem not working

    Hello,
I have a Linksys WRT54GS, version 6 with Mac OS X (version 10.6.8) hooked up to a Scientific Atlantic cable modem, with RCN as the ISP.
Recently, RCN had some network issues, and so I had to power down and reset my modem. The modem is working fine now -- no problems at all when the Mac is connected direclty to the modem.
The router's network is OK in that I can connect the Mac wirelessly to the network, but I can't connect to the internet through the router (through neither the wireless or wired connection).
I have downloaded the latest firmware update for the router, following the Linksys site instructions, but this has not helped me solve the problem.
Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do? I did call Linksys tech support on the advice of RCN, and they said that the router does appear to be working (power, WLAN, and Internet lights are on), but they would be charging me nearly the cost of a new router to fix the problem.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Since you upgraded the Router WRT54GS with the latest firmware so once reset the Router and power cycle the whole network… Then connect the Modem with Linksys Router on the Internet Port and then connect any one computer to any one of the Ethernet port on the Router [Numbered – 1, 2, 3 and 4]… Let me know the RCN connection is a DSL connection or cable connection…
So if you have a DSL connection you can refer to this link:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=4020&userrole=Linksy...
So if you have a Cable Internet Connection you can refer to this link:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&vw=1&articleid=3686
As far as the wireless is concern:
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Router setup page…
    # Then Click on wireless Tab create the Wireless Network Name SSID and select the channel to 6, 9, and 11… Click Save Settings...
    # Then Click on Wireless Security sub tab and select the security mode and provide the password as per the requirement… Click Save Settings...
After doing the settings try to connect the preferred network on the wireless devices and check the connectivity….
