  • Cisco NAC server hang issue

Hi All Cisco NAC Experts,  I am currently experiencing a Cisco NAC NAC3315-SVR hang issue.
The issue was already happened for few time on the same server and the symptom when NAC server hung includes no response to ICMP ping, no response to SSH request, no response for access request to CAS management page via https, HA pair was detected down from its HA neighbor and triggered failover to secondary CAS.
The CAS server was recovered after manually power cycle the hardware.
After went through the attachment CAS logs, I found all the services and logging service were stopped when the issue happening but unfortunately there is no any suspicious activity was logged down before or during the issue happening.
I have also tried to search on Cisco Bug Toolkit but no similar case was found, I believe it was not caused by software bug due to the software version 4.8.1 is running in my company for years and only one CAS server having the issue.
That will be great if any one can help me out for the same.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hi Bro
This could be a problem with the certificate in that Cisco NAC appliance itself. My suggestion is to redo the certificate generation between the CAS CAM and CA Server. If this still doesn’t work, it could also be due to overload/broadcast storm on the LAN portion. This can be verified via Wireshark.
If all else fail, then a hardware swap would seem like the next best thing.

What is the best way to deal with memory leak issue in sql server 2008 R2.

What is the best way to deal with memory leak issue in sql server 2008 R2.
I have heard of memory leak in OS that too because of some external application or rouge drivers SQL server 2008 R2 if patched to latest SP and CU ( may be if required) does not leaks memory.
Are you in opinion that since SQL is taking lot of memory and then not releasing it is a memory leak.If so this is not a memory leak but default behavior .You need to set proper value for max server memory in sp_configure to limit buffer pool usage. However
sql can take more memory from outside buffer pool if linked server ,CLR,extended stored procs XML are heavily utilized

  • Anyone else having issues writting string "memo" fields to Access 2007-2010 or SQL Server Express 2008-2012?

I have a data cluster that I am working to write to either Access 2007 thru 2010 and/or SQL Server Express 2008 thru 2012 all on a Windows 7 64 bit OS. Some of the elements are long strings that I put delimited data for the raw trace data. The fields can be 10's of KB long. With Access I cannot stuff any string >255char into the memo field. With SQL Server Express 2008R2 - 2012 I found that if the strings are >32767 they again fail to fill the memo fields. The Access write or reads work fine otherwise, just not the listed offending fields in the cases mentioned.  Anyone else having the issue or a solution?

If the long string field has repetitive data, you might be able to compress it using GZIP to reduce it's size below the 32K limitation you mentioned.

  • Excel 2007 "Hang" issue when copy/pasting.

    Hi.
I have a user, using terminal services from a HP thin client. The server is a Windows server 2008 R2 SP1, Office 2007 SP3. The user is trying to copy from a IBM access session into Excel, sometimes the Excel will hang, an needs to be forcefully closed down
using the Task Manager. I have made sure that the IBS Access is using the clipboard function on the server. Other users can copy/paste from this program without any issues. The server is fully updated and the office pack also.
Any suggestions on where to start?
    Regards Martin

    Hi Martin,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Thus from your description it seems that particular user is facing the hangs issue, please correct me if there is anything misunderstand from my side.
Does this happens for all Excel file with that user?
Please try with RDP 8.1 for user and check the result. Please check the network connectivity is good. As user is copy pasting from IBM session it can create a little delay with file size or corrupt Excel file. The issue might also appear because the size for
Excel sheet would be very high and thus during the logon time it will take a long time to open. Also it may take into hang issue for the users. In addition also check below link for information.

  • CF Builder2 hanging issues

We recently started installing CF Builder2 on developer machines, and almost all of them are reporting serious hanging issues with the computers locking up.
    Has anyone experinced/experiencing this problem?

Yes, @umuayo, there can be many explanations for CFB hanging. I discuss a few here, but more than just pot-shot guesses, I also offer some specific diagnostic steps you can take to hopefully find and resolve such problems.
One common cause I recall hearing is when you have your CFB project set to look at files on a share (rather than on a local drive to CFB).
Consider that CFB is doing a lot more than just “editing a file”. It’s doing syntax checking on the fly, it’s looking up methods in CFCs, files you can include, tables and columns in databases as you type SQL, and all manner of other helpful operations…all of which can be expensive for it to figure out depending on your configuration.
There are also some operations that are done either on startup, or on certain other operations you may do only once in a while.
So when you say it hangs up, when does it do so? At startup? After some period of time? On doing some particular operation? And of those may help you narrow down the cause.
One helpful tip is to open the Progress View in CFBuilder (Window > Show View > Other ). That shows background tasks that are run when you do various things within builder, especially communications going on back and forth between CFB and any server you may have it talking to. If you have that view open all the time (best viewed at the bottom of the window to be wide), you may see what it was starting to do when things hung up.
Still another common problem is that people find that the problem is that the JVM (within CFBuilder) is running out of heap. Just as CF can hang and crash when that happens, so too can CFB (independent of CF, of course.)  You can tweak the max heap size (xmx argument) in the startup properties for CFB. If you’re using the standalone edition (versus running CFB as a plugin), you’d tweak the cfbuilder.ini file in the directory where CFBuilder is installed. If you’re running as a plugin, I’d recommend you research how to change the JVM args based on your OS, version of Eclipse, how you start it, etc.
Also related to memory, you can also set CFB (and Eclipse) to show you a heap size use indicator (and even request a GC), with the feature that appears at the bottom of the editor window when you go to Preferences>General then click Show heap status.
Similar to the above, but different, another thing people have found is a problem on 64-bit Windows, which is resolved with another simple change in the startup args (changing it from using javaw.exe to using jvm.dll for the jvm). For more on that, see these two blogs: http://www.websolete.com/posts/cfbuilder-2-performance-problems-on-windows-7-64-bit-solved and http://www.coldfusionmuse.com/index.cfm/2012/1/27/cfbuilder-performance-64bit-plugin.
Finally, and perhaps the easiest thing to consider: you mention being on “CFBuilder 2”. You don’t clarify if that’s really 2.0 or 2.0.1, the free update that came out at the same time as CF10. That has various performance fixes, listed in a section at  <http://www.adobe.com/devnet/coldfusion/articles/cfbuilder201-whatsnew.html> http://www.adobe.com/devnet/coldfusion/articles/cfbuilder201-whatsnew.html, including a mention of some features that can have a performance impact that you may want to watch out for.
Also, if you are still on CFB 2.0 and choose to remain there for some reason, there was a hotfix for that,  <http://www.adobe.com/support/coldfusion/downloads_updates.html#cfb2> http://www.adobe.com/support/coldfusion/downloads_updates.html#cfb2.
Hope that helps. Let me know what you think.
    /charlie
PS there are a few blog entries out that address CFBuilder performance. If for some reason the above don’t help, consider these as well, though do note that some could be from the CFB1 or CFB2.0 era and may not be as relevant for CFB2.0.1:

  • Memory leak issue with link server between SQL Server 2012 and Oracle

    Hi,
We are trying to use the linked server feature with SQL Server 2012 to connect SQL server and Oracle database. We are concerned about the existing memory leak issue.  For more context please refer to the link.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/psssql/archive/2009/09/22/if-you-use-linked-server-queries-you-need-to-read-this.aspx
The above link talks about the issues with SQL Server versions 2005 and 2008, not sure if this is still the case in 2012.  I could not find any article that talks about if this issue was fixed by Microsoft in later version.
We know that SQL Server process crashes because of the third-party linked server provider which is loaded inside SQL Server process. If the third-party linked server provider is enabled together with the
Allow inprocess option, the SQL Server process crashes when this third-party linked server experiences internal problems.
We wanted to know if this fixed in SQL Server 2012 ?

So your question is more of a information type or are you really facing OOM issue.
There can be two things for OOM
    1. There is bug in SQL Server which is causing the issue which might be fixed in 2012
    2. The Linked server provider used to connect to Oracle is not upto date and some patch is missing or more recent version is to be used.  Did you made sure that you are using latest version.
What is Oracle version you are trying to connect(9i,10g, R2...)

  • SQL Server Express 2008 R2 and Windows 8.1 (Standard)

I recently re-engineered the backend of a legacy Access 2003 application because we knew that going forward we were going to loose the replication capability in Access. This is a small, departmental app, so the new SQL Server Express 2008 R2 backend is
hosted on a robust Windows 7 system. I tested the implementation with both Windows XP and Windows 7 clients running the updated Access 2003 frontend and everything worked great.
We are now in the midst of a company-wide upgrade to Windows 8.1 and I'm having issues. The legacy frontend works fine with Access 2013 (full version) when run locally on the Win7 machine, but I can't get any of the new Win 8.1 clients to connect to the
SQL database using the Access 2013 Runtime module. I CAN create ODBC connections to SQL Server from the clients and they test successfully, so I think I have a valid SQL connection to the Win 7 box.
To recap: old clients were WinXP Pro with Office 2003 Pro, new clients are Win 8.1 (non-Pro) with Access 2013 Runtime module.
    Any ideas?

    Hi ,
Glad to hear that you have found the solution. Thank you for coming back and let us know the result:)

  • Server Core 2008 R2 SP1 - AD DS Best Practice Analyzer Scans Don't Produce Any Output

    Hi,
This is a re-post moving this discussion to the recommended forum "Server Core" from here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservergen/thread/cc33d429-88e0-4450-a73c-361e395fd217.
I am having problems producing any output for any AD DS Best Practice Analyzer Scans on a Windows Server Core 2008 R2 SP1 Domain Controller.
I have imported the "ServerManager" and "BestPractices" PS modules on that Server by running the following commands:
    Import-Module ServerManager
    Import-Module BestPractices
    I've then run
get-BPAModel, to find out what best practice scan models are availale, this returns the following output:
    Id
    LastScanTime
    Microsoft/Windows/DirectoryServices     Never
    Microsoft/Windows/DNSServer               Never
I then run all the BPA scans on that box:
    Get-BPAModel | Invoke-BPAModel
    This returns the following output:
    ModelId
    Success  Detail
    Microsoft/Windows/DirectoryServices True       (InvokeBpaModelOutputDetail)
    Microsoft/Windows/DNSServer          True       (InvokeBpaModelOutputDetail)
Since the BPA invocation results weren’t displayed automatically, I entered the following command to see them:
    Get-BPAModel | Get-BPAResult | Out-File "D:\Source\BPA.txt"
This command will create a text file with the scan results but I only see the results of the DNSServer scan, not the DirectoryServices scan.
I have also tried to view the results in a HTML format by running the following command but still only see the DNSServer scan results:
    Get-BPAModel | Get-BPAResult | ConvertTo-Html | Set-Content d:\Source\BPA.htm
I have also tried exeucuting the scan ONLY for the "Microsoft/Windows/DirectoryServices" model but can't get any results to be returned.  I have also connected using server manager from a Full install of Server 2008 R2 SP1 but that
doesn't seem to show any results under the "Best Practices Analyzer" section when the "Active Directory Domain Services" node is selected, all 4 tabs ("Noncompliant", "Excluded", "Compliant" and "All") show zero (0).  However, the summary text above the
tabs does show when the last scan was performed. which seems to be correct.
Is there something special that needs to be done to produce the BPA results for the "Microsoft/Windows/DirectoryServices" BPA model on Server Core 2008 R2 SP1?
BTW: The Forest/Domain is W2K3R2 Native, this is the first W2K8R2 DC in the environment and I have installed .NET 4 framework (Server Core) to support Powershell 3, also installed.
    Thanks, Paul.
    belpad

    Hi Diana,
OK, pretty sure I've now found the root cause of the issue I've described above.
I was also looking into Windows Update Agent issues for these W2K8R2 Server Core DC's, where no updates would be applied via WSUS (configured via GPO) and would fail with "FATAL: CBS called Error with 0x8000ffff windows update agent server
    core".
Yesterday, I managed to get one of the W2K8R2 Server Core DC's (WSUS updates) working again by removing one of the .NET 4 Framework security updates (KB2600211) which was manually applied when the server was initially setup.  .NET 4 (Server Core Edition
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=22833) was installed as a pre-requisitie for Powershell 3.  Once this update was removed, the affected server core DC was restarted and WSUS updates started to get applied.
So I followed the same procedure on the other server core DC but this did not resolve the WSUS issue this time.  Next, I did further investigation into the Windows Update Agent problem.  This led me to the following article:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/brad_rutkowski/archive/2008/07/03/windows-update-fails-with-8000ffff-e-unexpected.aspx which described an issue with NTFS permissions being set incorrectly on C: drive, with the "BUILTIN\Users" group completely
    missing on the C: drive.
I found the affected Server Core DC also had this issue and when the "BUILTIN\Users" was assigned permissions on the C: drive as described above, and the Windows Update Agent re-started, the Server Core DC started to install all required updates
    configured via WSUS.
Next, I ran the Directory Service BPA, which now produces the desired output either locally or remotely via Server Manager.
Therefore, I can only assume that the Directory Service BPA also uses "Network Service" much like WUAUSERV (Windows Update Agent), which requires access to the C: drive via the "BUILTIN\Users" assignment.
So this has subsequently led me to check the C: drive (%systemdrive%) permissions across multiple W2K8R2 machines, all of which showed differing assigned permissions, as follows:
    1. W2K8R2 Server Core DC - With Directory Services BPA and Windows Update Agent Not Working
    C:\>icacls c:\
    c:\ BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)(F)
        CREATOR OWNER:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F)
        NT AUTHORITY\INTERACTIVE:(OI)(CI)(RX)
        NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)(F)
    2. W2K8R2 Server Core DC - With Directory Services BPA and Windows Update Agent Working OK

        BUILTIN\Users:(CI)(AD)
        BUILTIN\Users:(CI)(IO)(WD)
        CREATOR OWNER:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F)
    3. W2K8R2 Full DC - With Directory Services BPA and Windows Update Agent Working OK
    C:\>icacls c:
    c: NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller:(F)
       NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller:(CI)(IO)(F)
       NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(M)
       NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F)
       BUILTIN\Administrators:(M)
       BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F)
       BUILTIN\Users:(RX)
       BUILTIN\Users:(OI)(CI)(IO)(GR,GE)
       CREATOR OWNER:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F)
    4. W2K8R2 Server Core DHCP Server (Migrated from W2K3 with Server Migration Tools) - With DHCP BPA and Windows Update Agent Working OK
    C:\>icacls c:
    c: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)(F)
       BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)(F)
    5. W2K8R2 Server Core DHCP Server (Migrated from W2K3 with netsh) - With DHCP BPA and Windows Update Agent Working OK
    C:\>icacls c:
    c: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)(F)
       BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)(F)
       BUILTIN\Users:(OI)(CI)(RX)
       BUILTIN\Users:(CI)(AD)
       BUILTIN\Users:(CI)(IO)(WD)
       CREATOR OWNER:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F)
None of the above servers have a Group Policy or any in-house scripts defined that configure C: drive permissions.  It seems odd that there should be such a variance in the C: (%systemdrive%) drive permissions across the above servers, with only
scenarios 2 and 5 above have matching permissions.  I can only imagine that maybe some software or software update might be causing this.
By reviewing the above output, it seems there is also a difference between the C: drive permissions of W2K8R2 Server Core and W2K8R2 Full.  Not sure if this is by design?
Is there any Microsoft Documentation describing what the default %systemdrive% NTFS permissions should be for W2K8R2 Server Core and Full.  Furthermore, do these permissions change when the various infrastructure roles are installed and enabled i.e.
Domain Controller, DHCP etc.  I ask, since I would like to use the correct set of permissions for %systemroot% in each scenario. Please advise if I should be asking this question in a different forum?

  • Migrate Data action hanging migrating from sql server to Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I am currently migrating a SQL Server 2005 db to Oracle 10g using SQL Developer 1.2.1. I have created the migration repository, captured the SQL Server db objects, and created the target schema. There are about 109 tables captured. During Data migration, however, the data move hangs. I have run the data move a couple of times now and it does not hang while migrating any particular table, but seems to be more to do with the length of time it is taking to migrate. Could this be an issue with SQL Server connections being lost? The SQL Server db is quite large. Row counts of 100k plus.
    Message was edited by:

Probably. There is an offline option for migrating data under the migration menu. Generate Scripts for the data move using the appropriate converted model and u can export the data to bcp export files and load it with teh generated SQL Loader scripts.
