Hang on Windows shutting down

P67A-GD55 (B3) v4.2
Intel® Celeron® Processor G530 (2M Cache, 2.40 GHz)
Intel 1000 PT Dual Port WOL enabled
BCM 5709C Dual Port WOL enabled
RealTek 8111E WOL enabled
I installed Windows 7 and upgraded BIOS to v4.2. After installing Intel ME 8, the system hangs on shutting down. No error in event viewer, just transition to shutdown then it hangs(click shutdown, screeen showing "shutting down"==> hang in 5s, still showing shutting down but the circle is not moving any more).
I read somewhere it might be related to WOL enabled. I do need WOL on at least one card, is there anything else that might cause the hang on shutting down?
BTW why MSI stopped offering BIOS update file for mflash or DOS? I know I can probably extract the BIOS image from exe but why does MSI decide to completely rely on Windows? I don't plan to use Windows but still have to install it just to upgrade the BIOS and try out some features in UEFI(e.g. browser.... also dependent on Windows)

Probably too much running in the background that has to finish what it's doing for the shutdown sequence. UEFI/BIOS v4.1 is better than v4.2. Most likely been better off to have never flashed an Ivy update in the first place.

They didn't stop. If you would read Page 15 of the SOP, you would find how to flash in DOS. Why install an Ivy UEFI/BIOS when not using one?

  • Portege M300 hangs after "Windows shuts down" comes up on the screen

The computer hangs after "Windows shuts down" comes up on the screen. The same happens in hibernation mode. I have to turn off the computer by holding the on/off button.
I have updated my bios, installed all windows updates that are available and done a numer of other things. It startd just out of the blue. Any ideas?

    Hi
Does it happen after the OS installation from the Toshiba recovery CD???
Did you install any further programs???
I have noticed a similar freezing on my notebook. Mostly it happened because the background process did not close and therefore the notebook could not force the shut down. In my case it was a adobe acrobat reader which could not close.
I think you should defragment you HDD and use the CCleaner freeware application.
This program cleans program errors and corrects the registry entries.
Try it! Maybe its not a serious issue!

  • Windows shuts down Premier Elements 9 randomly

I have a more than adequate Windows 7 based computer.  My hard drive died before Christmas and I had to reinstall the software.  I created a new project with captured video and added some background music.  Did not save often unfortunately and lost it all when windows shut down the program.  Recreated it from scratch, saving often and still had occasional shut downs while creating the project.  It's only about a 30min video with some added sound tracks and a few title screens.  Now, when trying to make a DVD, it gets through Encoding 4 Menus and will begin encoding media.  Sometimes makes it 7% sometimes 80% and then windows message says program has stopped working, shutting down.  I see progress bar was still moving just seconds before the shutdown.  Tried to convert to an MPEG and save on my computer instead and got the same shutdown notice.  I just saw the FFDShow codec note and have not checked to see if that is on my computer or not.  Would deleting this folder potentially solve this?  Forgot to mention, Premier Elements is on non partitioned C drive with 100+GIG free space, save location is on a partitioned drive F with 300+GIG free space.

Is there an update link for Premier 9?  I saw one come through this morning for 9.0.3 but the one in your "Hangs UP" thread is only for 9.0.1.  Tried to update to 9.0.3 but would not connect to Adobe server this morning.

    Hi, mende1 -
I have the same iMac and am having a similar problem as SubSocitey.  Below is the Kernel Panic message that was generated. Do you think I have the same hardware problem?  If so, how can you tell?
    Thanks -
    Doug

  • Installed 7.1 on new Dell. Windows shuts down as result of "nixsrk.dll" problem.

I installed LV 7.1 on new Dell with XP.While running the LV application, Windows shuts down to prevent damage to computer as result of "nixsrk.dll" problem. What is the fix?
    Thanks,

How is your application architected? Are you making calls to DLLs using a Call Library Function Node? It might be that for some reason some of the components for your application were installed correctly on the Dell computers. I would suggest that you try some other application and make sure whether the issue is with your application or LabVIEW installation.

  • Firefox doesn't close when Windows shuts down

When Windows (in my case: Win XP SP3) shuts down, it sends a message ("QUERY_UNLOAD" in many programming languages) so that the active programs can finish their jobs (e.g. ask about unsaved data) and then exit. It seems you developers have reached v25 of Firefox and not thought of programming this small bit -> Windows shut down - an open Firefox doesn't give a fuck about exiting, you have to cancel it via Windows.
It would be nice to have this little effort of programming done - at last - thank you.

What an answer: The user asked to circumvent the shortcomings of a program.
Firefox should be able to do what 99% of all programs actually do, i.e. close gracefully when Windows shuts down. This is the industry standard.
And: I guess it's not more than a 2- to 5-lines code. So, don't try to evade it, lazy.

  • Windows shuts down while importing CDs

    Please help!
I purchased my iPod 30 Gig Video about two weeks ago. I have a Windows XP Home SP2 computer. When I’m importing CDs Windows shuts down the computer and dumps the physical memory. This happens when I usually put in the second CD. Here are the specs of my computer:
    AMD Athlon XP 2800+
2.08 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
    I have a Memorex DVD 16+/-DL4RWD2 DVD/CD-ROM drive
For my virus protection I’m using Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security2006
When the problem first started I uninstalled and reinstalled the iTunes/iPod software. I made sure that all of the previous versions of iTunes and Quicktime were deleted. When I reinstalled I turned off my virus protection.
Lately when I’ve come across this problem I turn off the virus protection thinking that that might have something to do with it.
I have all the current Windows updates and the drivers for all of my hardware is also current. I don’t know if my virus protection is causing many problems (i.e. firewall, etc.) Can someone please help?
    Thanks.

Your's isn't a dual processor (or simulated dual processor, aka, hyperthreaded) machine, is it? I and many others have found this problem to occur on such machines (when is Apple going to fix this problem?) Some have found forcing iTunes to run on only one processor to be a successful workaround (there are at least a couple freeware utilities out there (I don't recall their names OTTOMH) that will force a PC app to run on only one processor on multi-processor machines, or you can try, after starting iTunes up, cntr-alt-deleting and selecting Task Manager, then in the list of running apps, right-click on iTunes and choose Go To Process, then right-click on the selected process and select Set Affinity, and uncheck one (or all but one if you happen to have more than two processors) of the boxes) but this didn't work for me: I had to physically remove one of my two processors - I haven't had the problem since, so I'm confident that was (is) the problem in my case. (But I'm still ****** 'cause I very purposefully bought a dual processor machine; it just so happens that right now I'm doing more CD importing than dual core work, so for now it's the best solution for me, but I eagerly await the day I hear that Apple has FIXED THIS PROBLEM!)

  • GW API hangs intermittently when shutting down

I would welcome any insight into the following issue.
I have an application that uses the GroupWise Objects API to search users
mailboxes for new messages that fit certain criteria and generate XML that
describes them. This application is run as part of a batch process. On a
customer site, the application occasionally hangs, blocking the rest of the
batch process, leading to no end of grief!
The customer is using GroupWise 7.0.3 build 1068 - I have the same build on
my test system but have been unable to replicate the issue.
I have got the customer to run debug diagnostics to generate hang dumps on
the stalled process at 5 minute intervals. When we examined the dumps, we
found the application had hung at shutdown, sleeping waiting for a function
in gwenv1.dll to complete. Here is the relevant part of the output and
    stack trace:

What type of object is blocking?
What conditions might cause this to occur?
Is there any way to stop it?
    Is this a GroupWise bug?
    Dave M

I have implemented a brute force and ignorance work-around to this problem.
When the application is told to shutdown, I keep track of the time, and wait
5 minutes for the process to stop. If it doesn't shut down cleanly in that
time, I unceremoniously kill the process. Hardly elegant, but...
I would still like to understand what is causing the GW api to hang as I may
have an underlying issue, but time to move on.
    Thanks

  • Windows shuts down when monitor is closed

I am having a problem with my bootcamp (Windows mode). 13 inch MacBook with Windows 7 partition. It is basically working fine, but as soon as close the lid the system automatically shuts down and never comes back unless I turn on it again. Does any one know the answer to this problem? This became a problem to me since I tryed to use Dell external monitor on my Windows partition. I have to use Windows in order to use certain 3D program that only works on Windows. Unfortunately I am not able to make the Windows partition and the external monitor work together. In Windows mode the monitor is not detected by the computer as though nothing has been connected. But I found out one thing. I connected to the external monitor and started on Windows mode the notebook display lid open at first. Then when the system was ready to work, I closed the lid (the external monitor connected but not detected by the system), but this time the Windows mode didn't shut down by itself. It continued being active just like the lid wasn't closed at all. So it seems like the Windows partition knows that something is connected, but it doesn't make the monitor work with it.
Can anyone help me? It is very important for me to be able to use the external monitor on Windows mode because of my school work. Thanks a lot.

"Should i try to get this fixed?"
    Yes.

  • HP Photosmart 5520 Windows XP Windows shuts down IE & can't print from e-mail

installed new 5520 last weekend.  windows keeps shutting down IE.  went through windows suggestions.  says it is due to smartprint.  I do not need smartprint or e-print, just want to print from my laptop.  Can I uninstall smartprint and e-print and just use regular printing?  Also, I can't print from e-mail.  I can print everything else except from e-mail.  Anyone know how to correct this?

I am linking you to a video on removing Smart Web Printing.
Let me know how it goes.

  • FF4.0 Windows XPv3 drag tab to 2nd screen, drag bar off screen at top, close other browser window, shuts down both browser instances. BTW, look at how SAFARI does the drag tab to other screen, that is how!

FF4, drag 2nd tab to new window.
    2. top dragbar is off screen at top. I unmaximize the original screen, now that one also pushes the drag bar to the top off the screen. I resize the bottom of the screen and I can see a sliver of the top dragbar. If I close one browser window, both shut down. Auch!
Please take a look at how safari renders a second browser window when you drag one tab to the other window. Cool!

  • MacPro hangs when restart/shut-down.... help/info please..

Hello. I have a Mac Pro 3.0GHz. The problem I am having is that when I go to shut down, the system hangs for apx 3-5 minutes before rebooting/shutting down. How can I find out if there is a process that is causing this or if it is something else? The finder shuts down and the background remains on the screen during this time. The only way to speed the process is to hold the power button for 5 sec and kill the machine. The machine never used to do this. I want the system to reboot immediately like it used to.
    Help / information appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Scott - n0nuf

When there is a thread of 50+ users (which often means, with multiple postings from each, 100s of messages) that may get our attention.
A few, even half a dozen is not many, or a lot.
Anyone who has ever done any testing, or had to isolate a problem, controls for variables, rules out 3rd party hardware and software.
These forums are user to user. Was it 10 yrs ago when they first started that there were Apple mods and replies that had Apple's logo? no longer.
Yes, there is a way to find out what causes an "A + B = C" to occur.
And that is why it takes 1000s of beta testers, too.
As for grain of salt, I'm biased. I think we all try to keep discussions focused and with as much in reality-based known fixes and help. Any help though often has to follow from a fresh system and careful observation, and then taking notes, and not making changes for a few days with each step.
I would look for something in your system, but not in stock hardware or from Apple software though.

  • My desktop window shuts down automatically since lion's install...

    Hi
Sorry for my english, I am not english !
Since i've installed OSX Lion, I can't change my desktop's wallpaper
When I reach the window from the desktop or from the preferences window, the spinning wheel appears and then it shuts down.
I tried what someone advised to do on 10.4 4 years ago, but it doesn't work with lion, since the things to be removed don't exist anymore.
I'd appreciate your help, thanks in advance.

Hi, thank you very much for your reply. No my phone was never been jailbreak-ed. Never been dropped in water or in any wet surface. Dropped on the floor while texting yes, but it was just a one time incident, last year august i can clearly remember, but after that no more (phone still works fine even after.) restored the phone again earlier, but problem still occured. Will try to go to Apple also to ask and have it checked.  Just worried because my phone is already out of warranty. Will keep you posted. Again, thanks. If you have any more advice just let me know. It would mean a lot.
    Cheers,

  • Computer Keeps Running after Windows Shuts Down

I recently installed XP SP2 for the first time.  Now, when I shut down Windows, the OS shuts down fine and the screen goes blank, but the computer itself keeps running for about 15 seconds.  This has never happened before.  Any ideas?

Try a more powerful power supply.  It normal rated load on the 12v rail is only 4.5 amps with a max of 16.
