Hang releases when opening other browser

When logging in to a website Firefox hangs completely.
If I start another browser, say Chrome, just starting it and let it get focus and after that returning to Firefox solves the hanging.
Anyone knows what can be the problem?
And why is it solved by just open another browser.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • FIrefox hangs up when opening myyahoo and other websites. I have no hang up when I open sites in Explorer. Can I delete and reload Firefox without losing my bookmarks, etc.?

When I say it hangs up I mean that the pages open almost 100% but the green loading bars at the bottom of the page hang up at the last two green bars for 5 to 10 seconds or more before the page is 100% loaded. This occurs with all sites I open with Firefox. I have no delay at all when opening these same pages with Explorer.

I should have explained further. The game opens in a new window over to the upper left of my screen, leaving the original page underneath. I tried minimizing it so that I could get to my toolbar and did the View > Zoom > Reset. This has no effect. The lower portion of the game is still not showing. Using other browsers the window or frame of the game is much larger, therefore everything shows.

  • Error message when opening 2nd browser

When opening a 2nd Safari 3.1 browser for Windows for a 2nd monitor, I get the following Safari.exe- application error message:
The instruction at "0x10004dbf" referenced memory at "0x0000000". The memory could not be "read". Click ok to terminate program.
I click "OK" and the message goes away, though the browser remains and works just fine. How do i get this error message to stop popping up every time I open an additional Browser window?

Same problem here, but different message:

I have a dell Inspiron 1501 laptop running windows 7 home premium 64 bit with Firefox 6 browser and sometimes when i open Firefox browser it lags before opening can you please advise thanking you in advance

Flash Player is a browser add-on, not an executable program.
If you need to open a local SWF file you will need the standalone player (Projector) from http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
Note that the download is the player, not an installer, so you will need to make the file association manually.

  • Excel 2008 - Intermittent Hang-up when Opening .xls

    Hi Everyone,
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum - I thought at first I could put it in the "Windows software" forum, but since it wasn't related to Bootcamp or networking, I figured I'd put it here (since it is in fact on a MacBook).
Anyway, here's the issue. You'll find it is quite interesting...
I have a client using a MacBook running 10.5.8 and Office 2008 (12.2.3). She is attempting to open an Excel spreadsheet (in 2004 .xls format) from a website. Firefox 4.0.1 is the browser.
When she downloads the file and chooses "Open with...", Excel begins to launch. However, it does not come into focus (i.e. Firefox is still the application in focus). All the menu items disappear, and the pinwheel appears. At this point, she cannot click on the menu bar/dock/etc. Only after opening Force Quit with the keyboard shortcut is she able to force quit Excel (which is not responding). After that, all returns to normal operation.
Here is where it gets interesting.
    1. If, when downloading the .xls file, she chooses "Save" instead of "Open With" and then navigates to it within the Finder and double-clicks on it, the same issue occurs.
    2. Iff she opens Excel by itself (clicking the dock icon or otherwise), Excel opens fine and she can create a new spreadsheet, edit an existing one, etc.
    3. From within Excel, if she goes to the File > Open menu and navigates to the .xls file in question, it opens without issue.
    4. If she opens Excel by itself first and THEN opens the file directly from the website, it opens without issue.
The only consistency I've been able to find so far is this:
When opening Excel by itself, three processes start up: Excel, Microsoft AU Daemon, and Microsoft Database Daemon. When all three of these processes are running, the file opens.
When opening the .xls file directly from the website or by double-clicking on it within the finder, only the Excel process starts. The other two never start, and after a few seconds, the Excel process stops responding. I have not been able to figure out why these two processes are playing such a large part, considering they are primarily for updating Office and running an Entourage database (which she is not doing).
Here is all the troubleshooting done thus far:
    - When opening the file on a 10.4.11 machine running Office 2004, it opens fine (directly from site, from Finder, and from Excel open menu).
    - When opening the file on a 10.6.7 machine running Office 2008 (12.2.6), it opens fine (directly from site, from Finder, and from Excel open menu).
    - A coworker of mine reinstalled Office 2008 entirely
    - I have trashed the com.microsoft.Excel.plist file from ~/Library/Preferences
    - I have trashed her entire Microsoft User Data folder from ~/Documents
    - Updated her Office to version 12.2.9
    - Ran Permission Repair
    - Ran Disk Verify
    - Tried it under the another user profile on her machine. That profile had the same issue.
    - Tried rebuilding her database using the Microsoft Database Utility
    - Stopped the SMARTBoard "Aware" process and deleted Aware.app (I had another user whose Excel would crash due to this app running)
I'm out of ideas. The only decent workaround I've been able to give her so far was to just open Excel by itself first so that it is running in the background. That way, she can at least open the .xls file.
Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum

  • Mail hangs up when opening the preferences

    Hey guys,
i upgraded to mac os x lion 10.7 a few minutes ago. Now i wanted to try out the mail application. But it hangs up a few seconds after starting. Or it hangs up when i try to open the preferences window. Does anyone of you have an idea how to fix this?
    Thanks!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Acrobat Pro hangs up when opening files

When opening any pdf, Acrobat Pro displays page 1 but then becomes unresponsive for a minute or more.  I run on a laptop and find that turning my wireless off returns program control.  Manually checking for updates tells me there are none available.  Please tell me how to stop this obnoxious behavior.

Thank you for that answer.  I checked, and mine were turned off.  However, I ran a program earlier today that may have turned it off.  I’ll wait a few days and see if the problem persists before marking this problem corrected.  But I really appreciate your email!  Thanks.

  • How do you stop Firefox from suddenly getting an error message saying tabs are still open when opening the browser??

We have a MAC OS X 10.6.8 and all of the sudden when we close out of Mozilla (both by using the red x and also using "quit") the next time we open Mozilla it has a "well this is embarrassing" Error screen and asks us if we want to re-open our last session. Then it will have whatever email, webpage, fb page, etc that we were on and we can either close it or reopen it.
This started last week, we have had the computer 2 years and have never had this problem before. I tried re-starting Mozilla and after a few hours it started doing it again.

hello, this should be addressed in a later version of firefox. as a workaround in the meanwhile you could try this: enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash'''. double-click it and change its value to '''false'''.

  • My app tabs disappeared when opening my browser. How do I get them back, without doing a system restore to yesterday?

When I opened firefox as my browser, I accidentally clicked on it twice, it opened two sessions. I closed one session, but, as it turns out I closed the session that had all of my app tabs, leaving the page that had none of my app tabs.
Now, I cannot get my app tabs back.
I tried doing a session restore to the previous session and that didn't help.
How can I get the correct session, with my app tabs in place, without doing a) a system restore point on the whole computer or b) restarting the computer?

On your iPod Touch, open the iTunes app. There should be tab named "purchased", which shows all your purchase history. Choose the "Not on this iPod" tab and you'll get a list of purchased products that are not on your device. Hope this helped.

  • Acrobat is changing hyperlinks when opening in browser

    Hi everyone,
I have a pdf file containing a lot of hyperlinks. When certain links are clicked on, Acroabt opens up a browser window but the page won't load because some of the characters in the URL are being changed. For example the following url:
    http://law.ato.gov.au/atolaw/view.htm?rank=find&criteria=AND~PS~basic~exact:::AND~LA~basic ~exact:::AND~2010%2F4~basic~exact&target=OA&style=java&sdocid=PSR/PS20104/NAT/ATO/00001&re cStart=1&PiT=99991231235958&Archived=false&recnum=1&tot=3&pn=ALL:::ALL
    ...gets replaced with this:
    http://law.ato.gov.au/atolaw/view.htm?rank=find&criteria=AND%7EPS%7Ebasic%7Eexact:::AND%7E LA%7Ebasic%7Eexact:::AND%7E2010%2F4%7Ebasic%7Eexact&target=OA&style=java&sdocid=PSR/PS2010 4/NAT/ATO/00001&recStart=1&PiT=99991231235958&Archived=false&recnum=1&tot=3&pn=ALL:::ALL
It seems to be swapping out the tilde sign (~) with the following characters:
    %7E
When I hover over the hyplink in Acroabt, the correct version appears. It only happens once it's clicked and the brower window is opened.
Does anyone know why this happens or whether there is a workaround?
    Thanks in advance

Tilde is indeed arguably forbidden in a URL, and should be replaced by %7E. So Acrobat is doing the right thing. We can now often get away with the tilde, but they should be treated as exactly equivalent.
This is discussed in http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/tilde.html which can also be accessed as http://www.cs.tut.fi/%7Ejkorpela/tilde.html.
You are right that the Australian government web site isn't accepting this. The site appears to be faulty.

  • Url links in swf work in standalone, but not when opened in browser

I am currently using flash to create an electronic press kit.
In that, i have 2 links to youtube (since embedding the videos was
not an option, making the file too large), and one link to
yousendit for the viewer to be able to download a pdf file.
Now when i open the swf by double clicking on it (which i can
do, but when on another computer, that has flash player installed,
the swf will not open unless opened through a browser....not sure
if that is just something where you can open an swf strictly by
itself only if you actually have flash or what....that is another
issue), but anyways, when i open the swf by itself, the links work
correctly. once opened through a browser, the links do not work.
    Safari error:
Adobe flash player has stopped a potentially unsafe
    operation.
The following local application of your computer or network:
    (location of swf on harddisk)
is trying to communicate with this internet-enabled location:
    youtube.com
To let this application communicate with the internet, click
    SETTINGS.
You must restart this application after changing your
    settings.
Of course i did that, and it didnt happen.
My question is however, even if this is a simple security
issue/setting within the browser, is there any way to get around
this? Because when sending this press kit out, the last thing i
want is for the viewer to have to take the time to change their
browser settings and try to get this to work and all that stuff.
    Any help would be appreciated.
You can also download this swf at the following link:
    http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.ph...661F585ACE0521

The reason the swf doesn't open up by itself on other
computers is that it needs a Stand Alone Flash Player to do so.
Most people have the Flash plug-in for their browsers, but not the
stand alone player. If you are sending it out as a self contained
file you need to make a Projector file. It contains the SA + swf in
one file, which adds weight. Also, you need to make a Windows one
and and a Mac one. If you are using CS3, I think you can make a
Abobe AIR app that is universal, granted you install the free AIR
plug-in controlls for Flash ( I THINK. My knowlege is not totally
    up to date) .
As for the links not working in the browser, its seems like
they should work. Your posted link for the file is broken, so
couldn't see. What is your code for the buttons? Are you calling
JavaScript in your html page? I've had problem with that usually a
    syntax error or IE.

  • Add ons tool bar and tabs disappeared when opened closed browser.

I have deleted and re-installed 17.01 three times now. The first time was to get into my bank site. The second because I still was having problems with downloading. My browser has been working well for about a couple of weeks. I was using the browser, closed it with tabs open (oh, and I haven't had a tab open alert, since upgrading to 17). Normally, when I reopen the browser, all the tabs are there and open. This time, the tabs were open but my add on tool bar on top was closed, even though it was checked to be open. I closed the browser, and reopened it, and not only was the add on tool bar gone, but now all the tabs were gone too. I uninstalled and re-installed 17.01, and nothing changed. I have come to hate 17 with a passion.
And, no, I haven't installed anything new, and I don't have tab mix (what ever that is) add on.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
