Hang-up Entourage by iCal

I am using Entourage as my main environment for mail, addresses and calendar info. Unfortunately I can't sync Entourage with my mobile (Sony Ericsson P1i). So I started using iCal and Address Book of Leopard. This has proven to be really very painful! I switched on the Sync Services in the preferences of Entourage ..... don't do it!!! It gave all kind of unexpected results and at the end it hangs-up Entourage when you access Calendar, you have to go back to an earlier version of the Entourage database (when you backed it up with Time Machine at least otherwise you have a serious problem).
It is really a shame that there is no easy way to sync Entourage with Symbian mobile phones. And I don't want to use iCal and Address Book because they are still too poor in functionality.
Any advice?
Thanks, Thon

I agree with you that the Hang up button isn't responsive enough.
I know I have to tap is 3 or 4 times to hang up. The other buttons seem to be fine.
Placement of the cursor is not accurate, I have to tap multiple times to get the cursor in the right spot.
Selecting text is always a horrible experience. The two pins that show up don't react well when they are moved around.

  • Can't get entourage and ical to sync

    Hi,
I've had a macbook for a while but got an iphone 3gs last week and I'm just trying to set it up. My addresses and contacts seem to be syncing to my iphone OK but not my entourage 2004 calendar. I have gone into entourage preferences and ticked all the synch boxes and when I open ical I have an entourage calendar but none of my appointments are on there (the only thing that is are public holidays and birthdays?).
When I tried to sync entourage with ical he just hung so I thought this may be due to number of entourage calendar entries. So I went onto entourage and changed it so that anything over 12 months old is deleted but now I have checked and I still have all my calendar entries on entourage from 2005 so that hasn't worked. How can I delete the old calendar entries?
So as I understand it in order for my calendar to be synced on my iphone it has to go through ical (even though I don't use that on my Macbook). As I can't get entourage to sync my calendar with ical I can't get my calendar onto my iphone at present which is a real pain.
Would I be better looking at mobileme or something similar or do I just need to setup entourage and ical differently?
As you can see I really need some help! All advice very gratefully received.
    Cheers
    Ergo

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING - BACK UP ALL YOUR DATA IN ENTOURAGE.
You can delete everything in iCal by deleting the calendar (Entourage or Personal or temp or whatever Calendar is there). You can delete everything in Address book either by highlighting all the contacts and hitting delete or by deleting the Address Book folder in Address Book.
The key in getting them to sync properly with Entourage is deleting all the preferences in your Library folder under <your user>. Delete anything with Microsoft Entourage in it. I also deleted iCal preferences and Address Book Preferences.
I also found it necessary to go to the Office folder and delete the sync services folder.
Also go to Entourage sync services and turn OFF syncing with iCal and Address Book. Exit Entourage.
Go to your application folder, isync - reset sync history (button at bottom of screen).
Then bring up Entourage, sync services, and reactivate syncing with iCal and Address Book.
Everything should work. I have been struggling with this the last week or two. I've had innumerable exchanges with MS who have said anything with syncing is not their problem it's an apple application. Through these discussion boards I pieced together all of the elements above. But be sure to back up anything you want to keep before you do any of this.
It should work. It did for me (at least last night and all day today). Good luck.

  • Entourage 2008 & iCal sync inaccurate free / busy status for events

On a campus using Exchange 2007, I am using Entourage 2008 and sync to iCal 3.0.2 (Leopard) via Sync Services in Entourage's preferences. Both Exchange 2007 and Entourage 2008 have only been installed in the last two months.
I have found that events which I mark as "free" in Entourage 2008 are changed to "busy" after a sync with iCal. The free / busy status is correct when the sync with Exchange takes place, but the status is incorrectly changed to busy every time the iCal sync takes place.
I need to put campus events, co-worker planned absences, and similar things on my calendar, but these items need to remain as "free" so that I can be scheduled during those times. This all worked correctly with Entourage 2004 and the older version of Exchange.
Does anyone know how to correct this behavior so that the free / busy status is not changed with a sync to iCal?

    Sue,
Wish I could offer some good advice, but the easy syncing of iCal and Entourage 2008 so far has been impossible if not a nightmare.
When you go to import in Entourage and iCal is NOT listed as "another application", we are in HUGE trouble.
A real shame that in today's world of "New Media" and PDA's like iPhones and Blackberry that the two billionaires from Apple and MS did not provide us with easy and simple export/import/sync tools.
Maybe they should rename Office 2008 to Office 1984

  • Any help converting from Entourage to iCal?

With all the problems syncing between Entourage calendar and my wife's iPhone (and now Apple dropping sync to Entourage in the new "forced" upgrade on MobileMe), I want to help my wife convert from Entourage to iCal.  Anyplace to go for that help?

You can use Thundebird to replace Entourage and get the Lighting.Add-on to Thunderbird to replace the calendar of Entourage which USED TO synch over ical to Mobile Me as follows:
    1. How to set up the iCal for Lightning and MobileMe
    open Thunderbird
    Install the Lightning add-on
    Select “Preferences” “Advanced” “General”“Config Editor…”
    yes, be careful
scroll down until you find  “general.useragent.extra.lightning” andset the value to (nothing). you can also set the value to “ical” or whatever, just change it.
Close the config editor, close Thunderbird
Get the link to your iCal on MobileMe asfollows:
    open ical (YES, iCAL)
right click the calendar under [email protected] youwant to access
    select“get info”
copythe url after “CalDAV url:” it should read“/calendars/users/1.xxxxxxxxx/xxx-x-x-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxx”
OpenThunderbird (assuming you have the Lightning add-on installed)
    Within Thunderbird
    File/ New / Calendar
    onthe networkselect “CalDav”
intolocation: type the following (excluding the “”) :“https://cal.me.com:8443/calendars/users/1.xxxxxxxxx/xxx-x-x-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-x xxx-xxxxxxxxxxx”where the xxx stuff is the part of the url that you copied under 5. above.
Whenyou check what is written in the location field, it will end with a   “/” which is correct.
    This works fine for me.
If you want to back-up your calendar on Thunderbird/Lightning outside the cloud,  goto iCal and export the file to a local location as backup.

  • Syncing iCal to entourage, syncing iCal to entourage

Syncing issues.  I imported Entourage to iCal and now it has disappeared in Entourage.  When I go to Sync (check combine in preferences) nothing happens.  Please help?

These links explain the process of synchronizing Entourage with the Sync Services framework, and thus with iCal.
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/entourage2004/using.aspx?pid=usingentourag e2004&type=howto&article=/mac/library/howto_articles/office2004/ensyncservices.xml
Here is a link to an independent location where specific issues regarding Entourage synchronization are addressed:
    http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faqtopic/syncservices.html
The operation of the Sync Services framework, the truth database and sync clients—the 'bigger picture' if you will—is explained here:
    http://developer.apple.com/macosx/syncservices.html
Keep in mind that iCal—while supporting multiple calendars—has no equivalent to the categories assigned in Entourage. [A similar issue arises for Palm users using iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit, because of this limitation.] Entourage synchronizes data with only one calendar, matching entries one-to-one to an Entourage calendar in iCal.

  • I need help to recover my Entourage and iCal

I have just synced my iphone - daily event - but this time all the calender entries hit the fan!  Oh dear, what a mess.  I appeared to have duplicateds of almost everything!
So I went through day by day deleting and updated profiles etc.  then I thought Id check that iCal had everything (needed for the iphone sync) and found it had no entries at all!  I tried to use TM to go back to this morning on Entrouage with little effexct.  I had to reinstall Entrougage (2008).  All appeared ok - but then I checked iCal again and no sync services were imported.
I then used the import from iCal to import entourgage and it appeared to do this several times.  I ended up again with duplicates calendars.
I mistakingly then deleted the Entourage calendars from iCal which then deleted the Entourage entries.  I am in a right mess!  Somewhere through this process I did copy the main identity and have since imported that back into Entrouage but its come back without catogoriers and projects.
Please... is there not a way I can just revert everything back to earlier this morning (I have Time Machine set up) without having to completely reinstall everything. I really miss thsat useful 'system estore' on PC! And.. if possible , has anyone any ideas why this happed?

Sorry to say that no one was able to help me.  Apples upport closed for the evening so I was on my own!!  I ended up having to reinstall OS X and restore to earlier time through time machne.  That was ok but iCal did not restore.  Entourage was ok - so I decided to import Entrouage again into iCal and started that process last night - and I have just aborted it as it was taking so many hours.  I thought perhaps i'd be better using Outlook 2011??  Just set that all up only to find that it doesn't sync with iCal???  How do I get that onto my iphone then?  Getting increasingly frustrated here....

  • Switching from Entourage to ical, mail, and address book- duplications?

I am tired of the slowness of Entourage and was thinking of switching to all of the native mac programs. Any suggestions or comments on whether this is a good idea or not?
Also, will all of my information be duplicated. I have about 3 gigs of information and I don't want to needlessly store it if I don't need to. Can I get some advice on where to find and extract that information from the entourage program so I am not eating up disc space unnecessarily.
    Thank you.

Three weeks ago I switched from Entourage and Palm Desktop to Apple mail, address book and ical. It was a tad painful because I ended up with a lot of duplicates as I had email and some contact info in Entourage and several thousand contacts in Palm Desktop.
However after a couple of solid nights sorting out the duplicates all the contact info for each person is now in one place.
Word of warning though when you are checking address book entries make sure you keep backing up the changes (File - Backup address book) because for some inexplicable reason a couple of times all the entries in address book vanished.
Also the check for duplicates option in address book might be great for some but for me it created contacts that had their addresses and phone numbers duplicated several times.
After initial teething problems (getting used to the different programs) I am now pretty happy with the changeover. I am ecstatic to not be seeing the constant Entourage error message of 'your database is damaged and needs to be rebuilt' which entourage kept throwing at me (even after repeated rebuilds).
I have a Palm Treo and Address Book and iCal sync fine with that as well (after installing the conduit).
You'll also find in mail that you can't do as much snazzy formatting as you could with Entourage (ie numbered lists and bullet points) but hopefully Apple will address that in later updates. In the meantime if I'm desperate for formatting I write the email in rtf and paste it across complete with bluet points.
Sorry to drone on but wanted to give you some moral support.
Oh by the way the entourage data is stored in Home folder - Documents - Microsoft User Data - Office 2004 Identities - main identity - database (almost need a compass and flashlight to find it). To be on the safe side burn it to a dvd just in case and then trash it and all it's little friends (rules, lists, signatures and the other main identity folders.
    Good luck

  • Sync w/entourage x, iCal version 2.0.5 & most current version of iCal

    PowerBook G4 (work computer)
-Entourage X (I use calendar & contacts from the applicaiton everyday)
    - iCal version 2.0.5
**currently I am importing my Entourage calendar into my iCal and exporting my contacts from Entorage and importing them into Address book)
MacBook (brand new home computer...haven't even opened the box yet)
    -iCal (latest version)
-I don't currently have Entourage installed on this computer
    .Mac account
Can I use the .Mac sync software to sync my Entorage X information with both the iCal on my PowerBook (version 2.0.5) and my new MacBook (most current version of iCal)? The end result, I'm hoping my iPhone can sync with my MacBook which will include the most up-to-date information from both my work computer (calendar & contacts) and my home computer. I'm not sure if I should keep my new MacBook if this can't be done...so any help is greatly appreciated.

If you disable your Bonjour Service are you able to launch iTunes?
In your Start menu, right-click My Computer and select "Manage".
    Expand "Services & Applications".
Open "Services". (Perhaps maximise the screen to better see what's going on.)
Right-click the Bonjour Service and select "Properties".
In the General tab, set the Startup type to "Disabled":
    ... and click OK.
Restart the PC and try another iTunes launch. Any better luck then?

  • Problem Importing Entourage into iCal

I've had several problems with iCal recently but the most frustrating one is that I can't import from Entourage. I've selected File > Import > Import Entourage Data but the application essentially locks up and no data is imported. When I Force Quit iCal and relaunch, I see an Entourage calendar in the calendar list but there's no data in it.
The same is true when I select the Sync with iCal and .Mac option in my Entourage Sync Services.
Any thoughts on why this is occuring?
    Thanks!

Just finished doing a similar import. See the last entry of the thread from 10 Jan.
What I did was set up a view for each "category" of events in Entourage, then select that view, select all events in that view window and drag them into a folder for that "category" on the desktop.
Then created a calendar in iCal for each "category" and dragged the .ics files from the folder into that calendar in iCal.
    The problems I encountered were:
    1) All of my "all day" events in Entourage became timed events from 00:00 Day X to 00:00 Day X+1, so I had to do a lot of editing. (See comment in thread)
    2) Need to proof that all of the events make it into the folder. I found that when I was trying to transfer lots (100+) events to a calendar, I had to go thru the Entourage view and transfer events in batches.
Good luck! For the most part, I am happy that I made the switch.

  • UNSUB Entourage from iCal?!

I don't hate Entourage -- OK, I used to not hate it! -- but I'm about to get on the water tower with a high-powered rifle ...
Unlike many on here, apparently, I did get get Entourage calendar to sync with iCal, both in Leopard and Tiger. Here's the problem: I cannot get it to stop.
Instead on the Entourage calendar updates overwriting or merging with the Entourage item in Ical, it just adds additional calendars! Time after time after time!
I have so many Entourage calendars in iCal now that it only finishes loading after God knows how long, and then, of course, because I apparently can't Shift-Click a bunch, they must be slooowly Deleted one by one.
Only to reappear, Ninja-like, in their legions again later.
Yes, I have: undid the sync on iCal; deselected the appropriate sync options in Entourage. But the ghostly and crash-worthy Entourage calendars still return to haunt and mock me.
I'd take the path of least resistance and just use Entourage -- I don't hate it that much -- but I've got years of saved messages in my Apple Mail folders that I refer to.
And really, are we Apple people or Microsoft people? I think you know the answer.
Somebody, please, I'm beggin' ya, tell me how to disable the Entourage corruption of iCal.

    Hey Debra,
It sounds like you have a entourage calendar in iCal. Just disable syncing in Entourage preferences then delete the calendar in iCal. When the Entourage calendar is no longer in iCal it should not show up in iTunes.
This article shows howto get to the Entourage syncing preferences.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1670
To delete the entourage calendar, launch iCal> highlight the calendar> Edit> Delete.

  • Entourage alarms, iCal and iSync.

    Hi,
I have events in an Entourage calendar. I sync these to iCal (using the Sync features in Entourage). An alarm on a calendar event in Entourage results in the iCal event having an alarm defined as a "Message".
I then use iSync to sync these to my phone. Unfortunately this means that my phone has a silent alarm for the event. I'd like it to have an audible alarm.
The only way I can see to do this is to have the iCal alarm changed to make a sound.
Is there a way to set the Entourage imported alarm type set to a sound rather than message only?

I am getting a good bit of help with this in the iSync forum, so I'm going to close this one out on the iCal side.

  • Moving calendars to server account hangs as soon as iCal opens

This moving  message hangs iCal, even the menu items including Quit Calendar.  My iCloud accounts includes two iPhone 4's, iPad 2, iPad, and iMac (OS X 10.9.1)

i had the same issue recently. user melisolaris posted this and solved my problem:
    1. Force quit iCal and Reminders.
    2. On your computer, unlink Calendars and Reminders from iCloud:
    > System Preferences > iCloud > Uncheck Calendars AND Reminders
(I did this because my Reminders uses my Calenders; I set deadlines for reminders, etc. Also, because my reminders weren't syncing with my iCloud as they should.)
    3. It'll ask if you want to delete the calendar and reminder events from your computer. Say yes because you should already have the most up-to-date copy on your iCloud.
    4. Open iCal. It should no longer display the "moving calendars to server account" message.
    5. Add your iCloud account to iCal.
    > Calendar > Add Account... > iCloud > Sign in with Apple ID and PW
    6. Give it a minute to update. You should see all your iCloud calendar events with no error message.
    7. Quit iCal. Open Reminders.
    8. Add your iCloud account to Reminders.
    > Reminders > Add Account... > iCloud > Sign in with Apple ID and PW
    9. Test the two programs by adding test events and reminders to see if they show up on your iPhone and your Macbook.

  • Exporting Palm 4.2.1 calendar to Entourage or iCal.

I am having trouble with getting calendar data into another program.  I tried importing a Vcal file (exported from within Palm) to iCal and it doesn't recognize years - so I have many years of events in 2009.  I also tried importing from Entourage directly, but it does not find my Palm software.  Any suggestions?  Is there anyway I can update my software to something more current so that Entourage will recognize it?  Many thanks...

If you intend to continue using a Palm device, there is only really one solution: use the Missing Sync for Palm OS.
Palm device synchronization is partially broken in Mac OS X 10.5 and later. The Missing Sync also includes a conduit and Mac OS X application compatible with the Palm memo application on your device, as well as many other features. And, there is no need to struggle with export and import of your historical data - simply install the Missing Sync for Palm OS following the instructions in the User Guide, and synchronize.
    It's really that simple.
