Hanging on MSN Homepage

When I sign out of Hotmail.com and the page redirects to MSN homepage... and Firefox hangs. I must go to Task Manager and close there and restart.
Have been running with no problem since new. Run virus, malware programs...nothing. No new downloads, or add ons.
This problem has just appeared in the last 2 days. Apart from this no other issues... all other pages open fine.... if I navigate away from the page before MSN homepage fully downloads firefox continues to work properly.

Hello Steve.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

  • Firefox 8.0 loading MSN Homepage gives error 'problems loading page' every timebut the page eventually loads - Any solution?

Firefox 8.0 gives error message "problem loading page" when loading MSN homepage. This occurs every time.
The error is: "Firefox can't find the server at www.%3ciframe%20marginheight=%220%22%20marginwidth=%220%22%20name=%22wxbuttonframe%22%20id=%22wxbuttonframe%22%20height=%22283%22%20src=%22http.com."
    Is there a solution?

I get an e-mail with go-comics and the ones I want to post links to I'll open in the browser as I read them in the e-mail so I regularly have a dozen tabs open (all the same site) by the time I'm through the e-mail. Every third or fourth page will hang up on something (connecting to or waiting for) sometimes not loading a single image, sometimes loading half the page, sometimes loading everything but the comic (because, hey, why put that as the first thing to load when you've got all these ads and crap to throw at your paying customers?).
At some point a couple of months ago I got some malware associated with trovisearch (I do not know how that got past security and java blocker but it did, probably some hidden crap in something from CNET) that somehow spoofed a page for Housecall and added five or six pieces of malware and adware. I cleaned for two days after and still can't find anything left on the computer even though I've been running scans constantly to try to make Firefox work right. I downloaded and ran a scan using Kaspersky during that time and then uninstalled it. That very well may be the cause of the post-refresh SSL issue.
I have Spybot and Malwarebytes scan logs from the time of the infection if that would help in any way. It doesn't look like there's a way to attach .xml files in this forum, though.
I can also run hijack this and copy and paste if that would help.
I'm currently running Windows Defender and rely on that and Noscript and adblocker plus to keep me isolated from most attacks (I don't have those add-ons re-installed yet). I also run Peerblock because they add malicious sites and known hacking sources (like Chinanet) to what they block as well as all the fake p2p stuff that's constantly pinging the computer. If I'm treading around in perilous waters I run Sandboxie.
Chrome is working as normal but Firefox feels like dial-up or worse right now and without adblocker I might as well be using IE.

  • Top part of MSN homepage is not displaying. Works in Chrome.

Today, for the first time, the top of the MSN homepage is not displaying. It cuts off just below the top of the 9 scrolling windows. Thought it may be an MSN problem, so I opened up MSN in Chrome and works fine. Cleared cache and still not working. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can try basic steps like these in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

  • Firefox 14 tool bar is not intergrated into msn homepage

HI. Just installed Firefox 14.0.1 on Windows 7 64bit. I am using the msn homepage, as I did with earlier versions of FF - but on Windows XP. My problem is that the FF tool bar doesn't seem to be intergrated into the homepage. It is just sitting there (not attached to anything) in the left upper portion of the homepage - and is so tiny and transparent I can hardly see it. This makes it difficult to navigate, and looks very unprofessional. Is there any way to fix this? Customization hasn't solved the problem.
    Thank you.

Firefox toolbars don't get "integrated" into webpages. Toolbars are part of the user interface, not the content section of Firefox.
Please provide a screenshot of that issue. <br />

  • Why am I getting redirected to the MSN homepage (when logging out of hotmail) with third party cookies not enabled? And why are exceptions to cookies being cleared in private browsing mode?

I have the latest version of Firefox, I use Private browsing with Allow cookies but not third party cookies. Recently I have begun to be redirected to the MSN homepage after logging out of hotmail and whenever I add MSN cookies to the exceptions in cookies the list gets deleted. Can anyone tell me why, when blocking third party cookies should prevent that?

    Two initial thoughts:
    (1) If you look at the cookie names and content in the View Cookies dialog, are they the ordinary scramble of different names and values, or do they look like "opt-out" cookies? Some security software or add-ons may restore opt-out cookies after you clear them.
    (2) If you have any extensions that make requests to those sites, it's possible they are bypassing private browsing mode, although I would hope not. Hmmm.
Unfortunately, unlike history where you can see the time that an entry was added, it is difficult to figure out when a cookie was set. But there are many cookie add-ons that might provide insight.
Alternately, you could go directly to the cookies.sqlite database using the SQLite Manager extension. This is on the nerdy side, but manageable.
    (1) Install SQLite Manager from: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/sqlite-manager/
    (2) The extension adds an item to the Tools menu. If you do not normally use the classic menu bar, tap the Alt key to display it temporarily or press Alt+t to pull down the Tools menu.
SQLite Manager may suggest a particular database, particularly on your second and later uses. You can skip that and it will open a new window.
    (3) On the toolbar (first screen shot), choose the cookies.sqlite database and click Go. This should display the database entries for all your cookies (second screen shot).
    (4) Select the following SQL query text:
SELECT host AS Site, datetime(creationTime/1000000,'unixepoch') AS Created, datetime(expiry,'unixepoch') AS Expires
    FROM moz_cookies
    ORDER BY creationTime, host
    (5) Click the Execute SQL tab, paste the query, then click Run SQL. You should get a list of sites in order by the date their cookies were set (third screen shot).
Are the dates all fresh? If they are older, something may be rolling back your cookie clearing.

  • Firefox 4 removed important data from MY.MSN homepage and won't allow me to access MSN helps

Firefox 4 upgrade has wiped out important data I had on my My.MSN homepage and will not allow me to access the MSN homepage Menu or Options tabs. How do I get that information back and what happened to my other features?

Hi, Troubleshooting is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, right? LOL  I'm always amazed computers work at all:-)
Hats off to the Microsofts, the Apples, the Adobes and all of the others that do all they do, so I don't mind a glitch here and there.
You are probably correct about the allow/deny selection for Zone Alarm. I used it at one time and I had a hard time with it due to not understanding what an allow or deny would do:-) Glad you were able to see that.
The FF vs 3.6.9 from what I have read was all about Security. I was over there late last night reading. Link here:
    http://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox36.html#firefox3.6.9
Also, here is some additional info and it covers the DLL preloading attack that is going on:
    http://www.informationweek.com/news/smb/security/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=227400031&cid =nl_IW_SMB_2010-09-09_h
Microsoft came out on 8/23 on the latter link.
Thanks for the appreciation:-)  There are many other volunteers on the other Adobe Forums as well and I'm sure they are all appreciated. Many have been on the other Forums for a very long time. I'm always amazed at the number of posts they have accumulated over the years! Very Hi-Tech people over there!

  • When Firefox opens my MSN homepage is out of date and will not update

When Firefox (v 4) opens my homepage is out of date and will not update to the current date even when reloaded

I'd recommend you delete the URL to your homepage which is causing the problem via Tools | Options | General and then go to the MSN homepage again and click the button "Use Current Page".
MSN may have changed the coding in the URL which is causing Firefox to load an outdated page with your current settings.

  • Firefox 19 not working with MSN homepage keeps crashing, Msn homepage works with IE 9 though?

I have always set MSN as my homepage with all versions of Firefox. Firefox suddenly stopped working (crashed 3 days ago). I had been running Firefox 19 for a few days with no issues, just stopped working with MSN and the screen just froze? I tried MSN with Internet Explorer and had no issues? I tried disabling the plug ins and Java, but no use? The only way I can use Firefox is to use a different homepage, then there are no problems.

I fixed the problem by removing all cookies as suggested in another similar post. Thanks.

  • How can I get rid of this MSN homepage? I switch it to my homepage and I restart and it is back to MSN!!!!!!!!!

I switch it to my homepage and I restart and it is back to MSN!!!!!!!!! I installed the new Firefox and this is what I get? MSN is acting like a virus!!

If you want to change your homepage to the original Firefox one:
    1. Go to Firefox > Options > General
    2. Make sure the top drop-down box says: When Firefox starts: 'Show my home page'
    3. You can then use one of the three buttons below the box to customise what you want your homepage to be
    4. Click 'OK'

  • I would like to get rid of the MSN homepage that was set a a default home page when I use firefox. I want to go back to the regular firefox homepage. How do I do this?

I want to get rid of the homepage that I set a while ago that goes directly to MSN news and just go back to the regular firefox search page as a default.

It's helpful to give more specific feedback if you can.
Here's the process to roll back:
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information] (copy your whole profile folder).
Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
Close Firefox 4, and uninstall it. Do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
Then finally you can reinstall Firefox 3.6. Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, it should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.
Note: I haven't actually tried this myself!

  • MSN homepage will not open

I use MSN as my homepage. Starting last night when I click the home button for MSN to open, it says "the page you have requested cannot be found". I opened firefox, which i never use and it works on there. Not sure what to do. Brent

Yes, actually a good thing to do with any new browser update is to reset the browser and clear the cache. Not sure why cookies worked. You probably only needed to delete those cookies with an MSN in them.

  • How to I remove the Bing Drop Down Banner on MSN Homepage

How do we remove the Bing drop down banner search bar from MSN. We are running Windows Vista and Firefox 4.

Install Firefox and the Add on called Ad Block Plus, subscribe to the "Easy List" (almost automatic)
When the image appears again, right click on it and there will be a Ad Block Plus menu option which you then can block the image server.
Ad Block Plus is wonderful at blocking all sorts of image servers
