Hanging on OSX
Firefox 6.0.1.
I will NOT create a new profile.
All my caches etc are cleared, and I have restarted. All my addons are disabled, and even then the problem occurs.
Btw, I do want all my addons to be live and enabled. That is the only reason I use Firefox to begin with. No esoteric, strange addons: all very well established:
- AdBlock
- Tab Mix Plus
- Web Developer
- Ghostery
- Speed Dial
- WorldIP
- DownThemAll
Even with these disabled, the problem still happens:
THE PROBLEM:
Every time I start a new tab, there's a spinning wheel in OSX Lion (which is the same as the waiting "hour glass" on Windows), and FF takes about 2 minutes to "think". WTF?
I have a Mac Book Pro from 2010, with 8GB of memory, and not many programs are on. Firefox is taking over 1.5GB of memory on my machine, even with all the addons disabled!
I will not create a new profile every single time this happens. Sorry. Please advise on something else.
Btw, please also allow for a "Subscribe by email" option. Not many of us use feed subscriptions -- I already have 2000 feeds in my Google Reader and it's a pain to keep track.

Logic X hangs after OSX 10.9.5 update
Hi,
After I upgraded to OSX 10.9.5 it have left my logic X completely useless I'm afraid. I can't even open a clean new project with only one software instrument in it without it crashing. I do this and choose close for example and the software hangs and I have to force quit it.
Have a mac mini with fusion drive and 16 gb ram with a motu ultralite mkIII box.
I have tried rebuilding the preferences, I have tried moving all third party au plugins etc. but nothing have helped leaving Logic X pretty much useless at the moment. Also, when you deleted preferences, did you delete the Control Surface pref file as well.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field. (be sure and use the complete path with ~ included) ~/Library/Preferences
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder.
Then delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the same Preferences folder.
Delete both! The files will be rebuilt next time Logic is run. -
Why coreservicesd hangs OS (OSX Lion 10.7.1)?
Hi!
I've recently updated my Macbook Pro 13" (mid 2010) to Lion and experienced system-wide hangs twice since that time (with 1 or 2 weeks delay).
Hangs have strange symptoms: I cannot run any applications after it occured or switch input focus from one to another (trackpad input still works though), eventually menu bar disappears.
First time I had to reboot MBP with power button, last time I managed to kill WindowServer and relogin to my account.
Hang somehow caused by crashed coreservicesd:

It has hundreds of lines like this not only for Activity Monitor but for all my open applications (if needed, I'll paste it here).
Any suggestions to what causes this?Glad I found this thread.....I think the same thing has been happening to me. Have had 2 of these crashes in the past few weeks.
Systems are working fine.....then suddenly a get a few app crashes all at once. The problem reporter windows show up. I can't close them. I can use the mouse, but can't seem to type on keyboard.
Here's my latest set....which oddly doesn't show coreservicesd as crashing.

I'm on 10.7.1 on a Mac Pro 2010.
First time it happened a few weeks ago I think I was able to log out. This time I was able to finally get the system to restart by brining up CTL+Eject (since the menu bar doesn't respond).

Firefox 8.0.1 frequently hangs on osx 10.7.2
Ever since I moved to Firefox 8 (on osx Lion) I find that it hangs quite frequently. It typically happens after a having used it successfully for a while and then moving away from it. When I return to the browser after a few minutes I find that it's hung... It never used to happen with FF7 or older...
Whenever I've had issues with FF after an update, it is normally an Add-On that is not playing nice.
My most recent problem was Firefox not responding right at launch.
I created a new profile and it worked right away.
Check out the last step here:

And be sure not to delete your old profile! *cough*likeIdid*cough* -

Photoshop Elements 12 is hanging in OSX Yosemite.
Using PSE12.1, the moment I start selecting pixels the program freezes and I have to select "Force Quit" from the OS X Dock.
I'm using PSE 12.1 and OS X 10.10.If you have once run PSE it is necessary to also delete the saved application states.
So you would need to delete:
com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
Adobe Photoshop Elements < version > Paths
Adobe Photoshop Elements < version > Settings
com.adobe.Elements Organizer. < version >.plist
com.adobe.ElementsOrganizer< version>.plist
and any lockfiles with the same names, then go to Saved Application States (at the same level as preferences) and delete any for PSE, then repair permissions and try again.
However, I will say that I am not running Yosemite (and don't intend to any time soon), but from the folks I knew who were in the Apple beta, it breaks many, many existing programs. -
Itunes hangs when connecting ipod nano 5g
I have iTunes 9 and a ipod nano 5g. When I connect the ipod to my mac, ITunes just hangs.
OSX recognizes the ipod, so I think the cable and usb port are just working fine.
I already did a rebuild of the itunes lib.
Anybody an idea how to resolve the problem?Try making a new account?

New Macbok is very good but as yet I am having difficulty in getting hang of OSX - I don't want to put Win onti it yet any advice - maybe I'm too long a Win Xp user .
ARCZapdoc - David Pogue’s “Missing Manual” series can’t be beat. As a veteran Windows user you’ll probably most benefit from his switcher’s book. But here are a few tips to get you started:
By default Apple starts you out with a set of folders. At root level you have Users, Library, System, and Applications. The root Library and System should be considered off limits until you really know your Mac well. As with Windows, the Mac can be used by many users. You’ll find your personal space insider the Users folder. Your programs are in the root Applications folder and if you have a program you don’t want others to use, you can put it into your own personal Applications folder. Note: if a program has an installer that doesn’t give you control over where it is placed, you shouldn’t move it. But if the program’s installer lets you choose or if the program is one that is dragged from an image folder, you can put it anywhere you wish.
Your user folder comes pre-configured with Applications, Library, Documents, Music, Pictures, Movies, Public, and Sites. This is your own space and you can do with it as you like, though I recommend that you leave your Library folder alone until you understand the Mac better.
The Library (both yours and the root level) is where configuration files, program support files, and other resources are stored. Your own special configurations are stored in yours while things that affect all users are stored in the global library folder.
My own scheme is to follow Apple’s lead. All my pictures go into the Pictures folder - I’ve created folders inside the Pictures folder to further organize it. All my music goes into the Music folder and my movies into the Movies folder. If you served a website from your Mac it would be served from the Sites folder but since I don’t do this I store my RapidWeaver (website creation program) files there. Everything else, my word processing, DTP, outlines, etc, go into my Documents folder. As with the Pictures folder, I’ve organized Documents by creating folders inside it for various projects, etc.
By default, all OS X Finder windows display a sidebar to the left which you can use to quickly jump to specific folders. You can add your own folders to it by simply dragging them into the sidebar. You can also change the order by moving them up and down. Drag a folder out of the sidebar to remove it. Now the cool thing is that when you are in a program and use Save or Open, the file selector has the same sidebar. Use this. Put folders into your sidebar that you’ll quickly want to jump to when you load or save a file.
Saving and finding files is something of a hassle for both Windows and Mac users and this is at least partly the fault of the OS and partly the fault of application developers. Some programs can be set to use default folders and others cannot. Some remember the last folder used and will jump there, others don’t. Some day maybe this will be corrected.
I note that you mention putting folders on the desktop. You can create an alias to a folder (think folder shortcut) by dragging a folder while holding the option and command keys (command is the one with the clover leaf symbol). Rather than putting folders on the desktop, put an alias there instead.
As to your Address book question I’m not clear as to whether you are referring sending an email to a group of people or adding a group of people to the address book from a single email. So I’ll address both.
Email a group
The address book has three panes - group, person(s), and data. If you have a group of people you regularly email, create a new group (click the plus widget at the bottom left of the window), then select the All group to show all the names in your book. From the 2nd column, select and drag people onto the group you created in the first column. Once finished, from now on anytime you want to send email to that group, type its name in the email address.
Add a group to address book
Open the address book and create a new group. Place the address book window so you can see at least part of the 3 columns while Mail is the front application. Select the message that has the group and then select all the group members (if there are too many to be seen you’ll see a link that says ‘# more’ to see everyone. Select the first person in the first, hold the shift key and select the last person. This is the standard multiple selection keypress. Now drag these names to the second column (persons) of the address book. Anyone who is new to the address book will be added to the ‘all’ group as well as the new group, everyone else will be updated if the address is different from the one you already have. -
Maintenance/clean-up on the new Mini
This is my first Mac...what are the recommended maintenance and clean-up utilities (disk defrag and disk clean, emptying temp folders, etc. on a PC, for example) that I should be doing?
Thanks! Most important rule: don't let the mac's hard disk get as full as you might on a PC. Preferably leave at least 10% free space. Never let it get below 1 or 2 Gigs free.
OSX defrags itself. That's built into the filesystem -- though it works better if you don't fill up the hard drive.
The other reason not to fill up the hard drive is that OSX wants to use a lot of it for virtual memory.
If the computer runs 24/7 all the maintenance routines run automatically in the middle of the night. If you don't run 24/7, then you can run a program like Yasu to do the maintenance routines:
http://jimmitchelldesign.com/projects/yasu/
Second most important rule: don't run other programs when installing system updates. And best to verify your hard drive with Utilities > Disk Utility before installing system updates.
Third rule: if you force the computer off by holding down the power button for 5 seconds, run DiskUtility when you restart to verify your hard drive.
Fourth rule: don't relocate any of the standard system folders.
Helpful tip if a program hangs: the OSX equivalent of CTL-ALT-DEL to kill a program is CMD-Option-Esc. -
Trying to open old iPhoto library on osx 10.9.5 with iPhoto 9.5.1. iPhoto says I must upgrade but upgrade eventually hangs. Tried to rebuild/repair database but it always says you have to upgrade database first and eventually hangs
What version was the old library made with?
What is the exact message? when it hangs does it crash or do you have to force quit?

Hanging OSX 10.6.8 on 10 second start up Help???
I just accidently dropped 650 Gb of Photo's accidently on my desktop/iMac and now it's just hanging (Beach ball). This was done with the photo's i just backed up from my iphoto library that had just crashed. Dammit, that had copied to an external drive, then i tried dropping them into a folder on the external and because it was so large they lagged and landed on the desktop.
So i can at the moment boot and i get 10 seconds of screen time before the system goes into hang mode, just the spinng ball. then its all over. FREEZE thats it!!!
I have tried booting with the iMac OSX System Boot disc, with command and the disc just pops back out it will not except the disc or read from it and using c.
I have tried, looging into the server through my wifi & macbook and delteing these jpg and cR.2 files (which show they are 0 kilobyes, on the desktop veiwing through the server on my macbook)- but they say error 8072 and cannot be deleted.
I have tried deleting the through terminal with sudo rm -rf to get around the error 8072 and It won't let me delets the files through there from the server on my macbook to my iMac.
Ok sooo i'm throwing this out to all the EXPERT TECH HEADS out there!
What else is there to try?????
I do not want to format!
Please help
Oh I DID have a back up copy but ended up deleting this yesterday. Then using the external drive to save the iPhoto files too. VERY BAD IDEA!!!You need to stop doing things that are likely to make things worse. be paticularly careful with using sudo rm commands. At the rate you're going you might erase your entire disk.
It's not a bad idea to make back ups, what's a bad idea is to drop 650 gigs of photos on to your desktop.
Your Mac is now hung trying to render this data on launch.
Go to the forum for your version of the OS and explain what's happened. Someone there will be able to guide you through the steps.

Just downloaded Firefox 6.0 and have restarted 4 plus times, but it continues to hang while launching. I cannot open new windows, change any settings, or do anything but Force Quit. I'm on Mac OSX 10.5.8. How do I get past this hang?
Long story short: Simply get CC for teams. At 500 bucks a year it's a steal and those 5 licenses in the base package (or was it 10 even?) cover all your computers, at least the 3 ones you mentioned. For system requirements refer to the individual product pages.

Adobe Installer Hangs Up on MacBook Pro running OSx 10.7.5
I can get the Audition CS6 disk image onto my mac via Download assistant or directly. But when I try to install the Adobe Installer hangs up during "Initializing Installer" and forces me to do a hard reboot.
The same procedure works just fine on my mac running OSx 10.6.8
Any remedies?OK. I didn't find anything useful in the Troubleshoot section. Here's the PDApp.log in it's entirety for the latest installation attempt:

I have tried everything on support yet it keeps crashing. My macbook pro has the same software (10.8.5) yet firefox 25.0 works like a dream. My desk top is part of an office network with 10.8 server.
Question title edited by moderator to change "keeps crashing" to "always hangs", since Firefox isn't crashing - it's not responding. awI encounter the same problem. I suspect this has to do with remote user homes. Firefox 24 works on local accounts - not in server hosted ones.
I am sorry i can not provide crash reports because Firefox hangs in such an early state - it does not write crash logs. It literally does not crash - it just stops to respond a lounchtime - so it does not give an error in the system console, too.
We have 20 Workstations (OSX 10.8.5) working with apple remote user homes. the problem is persistent on all systems. Firefox 23 worked fine and does again if you reinstall it.
