Hanging on restore

i have an iPod touch 2nd gen, and whenever I attempt a restore through iTunes, it gets to the progress bar with "Restoring iPod Software", but it hangs at almost around 99%. It does this every time, whether I try it in Recovery or DFU mode. Obviously at this point, I'm a bit worried since the iPod is in an unusable state right now.

i experienced the same symptom with my ipod touch 8gb 2G, restoring hang at 99%, itunes shows "restoring ipod software" till full bar and freeze.. I tried deleted the ipod firmware from the ipod software update folder and redownloaded it, not success, then try uninstall and reinstall back itunes, also not success. i had restoring for more than 10 times.
Appreciate if anyone have any ideas to solve this problem.

  • RMAN hangs during restore using TSM

    Hi all,
    I need an advice. My database version is 11.2.0.2.0. TSM Client version is 5.5.2
    I'm testing a restore using Tivoli Storage Manager. I'm trying to restore a specific tablespace using RMAN
    RMAN> connect target /
    connected to target database (not started)
    RMAN> run {
    2> startup mount;
    3> allocate channel t1 device type sbt_tape parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.opt)';
    4> restore tablespace 'ECRIXAR';
    5> recover tablespace 'ECXIAR';
    6> alter datbase open;
    7> }
    RMAN-06196: Oracle instance started
    RMAN-06199: database mounted
    Total System Global Area 2137886720 bytes
    Fixed Size 2221336 bytes
    Variable Size 1308625640 bytes
    Database Buffers 822083584 bytes
    Redo Buffers 4956160 bytes
    RMAN-06009: using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
    RMAN-08030: allocated channel: t1
    RMAN-08500: channel t1: SID=63 device type=SBT_TAPE
    RMAN-08526: channel t1: Data Protection for Oracle: version 5.5.2.0
    RMAN-03090: Starting restore at 07-MAR-11
    RMAN-08016: channel t1: starting datafile backup set restore
    RMAN-08089: channel t1: specifying datafile(s) to restore from backup set
    RMAN-08610: channel t1: restoring datafile 00014 to /dbspace/oradata/CMSDB/ecrixar01.dbf
    RMAN-08003: channel t1: reading from backup piece CMSDB_25_20110304.bkp
    And on this place RMAN just hangs and nothing happens further...
    I tried to search some information and tried to write some trace files during restore like this...
    oracle@hostname:/> rman target / trace /home/oracle/log/rman.trc debug
    connected to target database (not started)
    RMAN> run {
    2> startup mount;
    3> allocate channel t1 device type sbt_tape parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.opt)' trace=2;
    4> restore tablespace 'ECRIXAR';
    5> recover tablespace 'ECXIAR';
    6> alter datbase open;
    7> }
    But I cannot find any errors in trace files...
    What else can i do to check what's happenig?

    But I cannot find any errors in trace files...This indicates the problem is not on the RMAN, but on the TSM side. So you have to check the TSM logs, you also can switch on tracing:
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/tividd/td/DPON/SH26-4112-02/en_US/HTML/anou0009.htm
    And on this place RMAN just hangs and nothing happens further...How long do you wait?

  • Repaired Mac hanging when restoring

    Got my late-2011 MBPro back from repair, where a new logic board was installed and prematurely dead battery replaced, "latest registered operating system"(was told that'd be 10.8.2) installed but no new hard drive installed (allegedly). I asked the clerk whether that meant I wouldn't have to restore from my Time Machine backup and he confirmed I wouldn't.
    Got home, plugged it in, booted up and....WRONG!! Was taken to the startup screen that shows up on a new Mac, asked about language and keyboard preferences, and whether and from where I wanted information transferred.  It took me several tries to connect to my home network and find my Time Capsule, and then four or five tries before the name of my most recent backup showed up in the source list. Clicked on it, and got a screen with types of items to transfer--all of which except "Settings" were indicated as "Calculating." I got tired of nothing happening after 10 minutes, so I clicked on "Continue" and got the "Transferring Your Information" screen, which for the past hour has been hanging first on "transferring your documents" and now "looking for documents and applications to transfer." Finally switched to "Transferring Documents," but the blue progress bar is still endlessly striped like a barber pole. And it's listing the estimated time to restora as "About 153 hours and 52 minutes remaining."  Of course, Apple Care is closed for the night. (Don't they know how many users are night owls who save this stuff for AFTER work and family??????)
    What the....? Last time I had to restore from Time Capsule (on a previous MB Pro) the machine started up,
    PS--now it's up to "158 hours and 36 minutes...."

    Oh, God. Just did some more reading (in Mountain Lion and Time Machine) and it looks like I messed up BIG TIME (but nobody told me how to avoid that).  I went through Setup Asst. after the "transfer information" progress bar kept hanging and the last time estimate had climbed to 180 hours--so I skipped the transfer process.  I had NO intention of setting up a "new account," but because my MB Pro thinks it's a new machine (or has a new HD) when I entered my existing username and password it set up a new account anyway!!!!  Went into Migration Assistant to restore from the TM backup on my TC. Even though NO other devices are accessing the Time Capsule I keep getting the warning box saying "some backups cannot be accessed," and no matter what I do the only backups recognized are of THIS machine (the MB Air).
    I DON'T want to take the MB Pro back downtown to the Apple Store to have them reinstall Mt. Lion yet again, and I certainly don't want to have to haul my TC along too.  What the heck do I do? It's Apple's fault, because they did not warn me the hard drive would think it's a new machine (Setup even asked me to register!!!!) and did not warn me what and what NOT to do to restore from my backup. Heck, they even told me I wouldn't NEED to restore!!!  It seems every time I get a Mac repaired I go through hours of grief and frustration followed by a sleepless night because (unlike at other tech support facilities) Apple doesn't believe in 24/7 tech support.
    And now I'm going blind typing on this little MB Air (which is my travel notebook)--and am missing all the files I need.
    Meanwhile, doesn't anybody HERE stay up late?????

  • IPad hangs during restore

    I am trying to restore my iPad, but it keeps hanging at the last of the install. I have tried starting over several times with the same result. HELP!!!!!

    Hi,
    Make sure you are using the cable that came with your iPad that connects to your computer, and try a different USB port.
    Try charging the battery to 100%, then try to restore again.

  • IPod hangs during restore

    I had a problem two days ago where a synch failed and seemed to corrupt my media library. I successfully synched several more times, but was unable to access any media on my iPod. It just kept giving me the "No content" message, and I was unable to update any apps.
    Now, its gotten worse. I tried doing a restore last night, it started to go through the motions and then freezes at like 5-10% through "Restoring iPod software". I left it go for a half hour and nothing was happening.
    I tried again 4 times with it hanging at the same exact point. I am able to start the iPod in recovery mode and iTunes will still recognize that it is an iPod and try to restore it, but doesn't get beyond the hang point.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

    I forgot to mention I'm using an iPod touch 4th gen, with iOS 4.3 and iTunes 10.2.1.
    The computer I'm syncing from is Windows 7 SP1 64-bit. I haven't had any problems like this in the almost 4 months I've owned the iPod. The day before I started having issues I installed SP1 to Windows 7 though. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

  • IPad hangs during restoring on 4.3

    I have updated my iPad to 4.3, but after it chosing to restore it in iTunes, but it hangs in about 30% progress and nothing happens. What to do? Disconnect it manually? There is no cancel button and iTunes won't exit saying because there is active restoring.

    did you get it to work?  I'm having the same problem.

  • ITunes 9.2 Hanging on "Restoring iPhone Frimware.."

    Sorry if this has been posted before
    Whenever I run iTunes and try to update any of my devices (iPad, iPhone 3GS & 4 or iPod Touch) the pop up window gets as far as "Restoring iPhone Firmware.."
    The progress bar get to about 4mm away from being full and then stays there, I've left my MacBook for 24 hrs before and it's still stayed there
    I've tried uninstalling iTunes and,
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework,
    /Library/Receipts/AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg
    Then reinstaled iTunes etc and it's works for 2 restores and then it goes back to not working again and it's a nuisance to keep having to do this
    Has anyone found a way to fix this? This just randomly happened to me one day and has been annoying me since
    I'm using iTunes 9.2 (or whatever the latest is :p) and I'm running OSX 10.6.4 and it was also doing this on 10.6.3
    Any help would be greatly apprecicated. Thanks in advance
    Ben

  • Final Cut Pro X hangs while restoring window layout

    The software stops responding during startup when it begins to restore the window layout.  I have already deleted the layout folder in the Library without any benefit.
    I would appreciate any thoughts on how to resolve this issue.
    Is it possible that the problem may result from having both Final Cut Trial and Final Cut Pro as Applications?
    Thanks in advance for any help!
    Joe

    Is the iMovie project in the Final Cut Projects folder? If it is, remove it from there before launching the application.

  • 2.0 update--now my phone hangs at "Restoring iPhone software..."

    I've read posts with lots of other problems regarding the update from 1.1.4 to 2.0, but I didn't see anything relevant to what I'm experiencing (it also appears as the Apple iPhone support forum is having some problems).
    This morning I updated my iTunes to 7.7, as prompted. Then I plugged in my iPhone to charge, and was prompted to update my software, which I did. 95 minutes later, iTunes still says "Restoring iPhone software..." and I have the apple on the black screen on my phone, with the circling "in process" going round and round. (No beach ball of death on my computer screen, however.)
    What do I do? I really need my phone to make some calls.

    Hello,
    After reading about 2 hours worth of posts, the one thing that kept coming up was the issue of having to use a USB 2.0 PC card (my PowerBook is as old as the hills and only has 1.1 ports).
    I finally unplugged it from my Mac and plugged it directly into my PC (luckily, I have a company-provided computer as well). 10 minutes later, I was updated and ready to go. I plugged the phone back into my Mac to restore and all was well.
    If you are connecting your phone to a 1.0 or 1.1 USB port, OR connecting to a 2.0 port via a hub or a PC card, I would highly recommend using a different computer with a direct 2.0 port, for the update.
    I have no problem syncing right now with my USB 2.0 PC card, but going forward, I will only install updates using my PC with a direct 2.0 port (until I can afford a new PowerBook).
    I do wonder if I would have problems syncing if I had more stuff on my phone. Right now I'm only using about 2G of my 8G. Time will tell.
    Good luck--I hope this solution works for you. I know how frustrating it can be.

  • 10.1.1 / 10.1.2 hangs on restoring the layouts

    When I start FCP it loads all my projects, then it says 'Restoring the Layouts' and stops.  I can access the menubar but if I try to do anything, a mutated layout appears and all is bad.  I have tried removing the layouts folder from the finder library, but it doesn't seem to help.
    Thanks,
    Rohan.

    Just to double check… with the application closed did you trash the Layouts folder in the user/LibraryApplication Support/Final Cut Pro?

  • HELP: iPhone6 hangs during restore !

    Hi there,
    I am restoring my new iPhone6 from my ltest backup.
    But at the last step of synching Apps, it now says "Synhing Appr to iPhone6: copying 35 of 59: WhatsApp"
    It has been like that for the past 30 mins.
    What should I do ?
    Thanks

    If you are stuck, hitting sync again will do no good.  It won't do anything.  I don't think eject will work either but I didn't try that.  I just unplugged / replugged and sych starts over but only loads the missing apps.  There is also a forum on this updated about an hour 1/2 ago.  Other people keep getting recurring "stuck" issues.  I think it happens when wifi and usb try to sync at the same time.  Turn off wireless sync and then sync.  Others say that didn't work.  So they unplugged and just did wireless sync (much slower though) and say it is working.  When I got stuck just replugging with wireless sync off did the trick.  After first sync I turned wireless sync back on and all is good so far.
    I unplug and plug back. Now it stuck at "Synching Apps to iPhone6: copying 3 of 14: Facebook"
    Not sure why now it is 3 out 14 instead of 59 ?
