Hangs but only when connected to secondary monitor
I am "trying" to move from PC to MAC, but one issue that I seem to have is that most times I have the Macbook plugged into a secondary monitor the thing crashs.
Not with the grey screen, but a single solid colour, I've had green, blue, purple, and just recently yellow.
If I use HDMI adpater its almost guranteed to happen, if I use VGA it seems to happen, and DV-I it happens now and again.
Anyone know or even guess as to whats wrongs?
Same is happening with iTunes 11.0.3.
-> It starts instantly when my laptop is off the network (just have to switch off wifi).
-> It takes iTunes nearly 4 minutes before appearing on screen when I am connected to the network.

Spinning beachball on login/authentication, but only when connected
Since installing a new router (Linksys WRTP54G) and Airport Express (in WDS mode), I get the spinning beachball of death when logging in after sleep, switching users, or authenticating on a wireless iBook G4 (OS X.3.9). I've waited for many minutes, but the beachball doesn't go away. If I turn off Airport, everything works fine. I don't have this problem on my other wireless laptop (Powerbook G4).

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't updated my OS, but I did update the Airport Express firmware (to v6.3). Unfortunately, I still get the spinning beach ball.

Grey screen when connected to external monitor / projector
I have a 13" Macbook Pro (OS 10.6.7, 2.4 GHz Intel, NVIDIA GeForce 320M) that is freezing up when connected to an external monitor or projector. The monitor or projector works fine when initially connected, but after an hour or so of use, both screens will suddenly turn grey or black and the computer is totally unresponsive (the sleep light is not on). I have to do a hard shut down using the power button. This problem only occures when connected to a monitor / projector.
This freeze up happens in various use cases; watching a movie, web surfing, editing docs, or even when i'm away from the computer, it seems entirely random.
I'm connecting to a Dell U2711 external monitor using a HDMI cable. I've tried 3 different HDMI cables / adaptors, so I'm pretty sure it's not the cable that's the problem. The problem also occures when connected to an Epson Powerlite HD 705 projector (again using HDMI)
I've called Applecare and run a Hardware Test (no issues found), I've also re-installed the operating system and ran all updates. The problem still occures.

In terminal:
Enable: sudo nvram boot-args="niog=1"
To undo: sudo nvram -d boot-args
This works brilliantly!
Steps I use:
1) After putting in the terminal command, reboot and close the lid immediately
2) Keep the lid closed during boot up and once logged in, open the lid
3) The MacBook Pro's screen is off -
I'm receiving all my notifications, but only when I open my iPad, then I get them all at once. Why am I not getting them immediatlely?
Is this a wifi-only iPad? If so, and unless it is plugged in, when you sleep the device, it shuts off the wifi radio to save battery power. When you wake up the device, the wifi radio is re-activated, it connects and gets your notifications. That is perfectly normal and simply a function of the design of the device. The wifi will not shut off if the device is plugged into a power outlet (no need to conserve power then).
A 3G iPad would allow for push notifications, if the 3G connection was left on all the time.
P.S. if you do have a 3G iPad and have 3G enabled all the time, then I do not know why it is not working. -
Iphone 4 keeps rebooting... but only when plugged in
My iphone keeps rebooting itself... but only when I have it plugged in to the wall. When its not plugged in, it seems to work fine.
We have two iphones in our house... and I have tried the other wall charger... same result.
I went through the recovery mode restore... and its still doing it.
Any suggestions?If no change after restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, when your iPhone is connected to your Mac, is it connected direct to a USB port on your computer - not connected to a USB hub?
Since the buzzing/beeps continue when your iPhone is connected to the AC adaptor, do you have another USB dock connector cable to try to rule out a problem with your iPhone's USB cable? -

I can start the listener manually using "./lsnrctl start" and start the database manually from sql prompt using "SQL>startup" (as sysdba) with no problems. this only happens when using dbstart file. I am logged in as oracle user and all environment variables are set

I have restored but still no luck, currently trying to update the software once I've finished downloading it but I know it will keep restarting when connected to itunes.

No. The warranty is tied to the device, not the individual & all iphone 4's are still under warranty. -

IPod nano plays only when connected to PC
My nano is a 3rd, I think. I bought it from Apple's iPod website 2 years ago. I was using the iPod on a Harley-Davison plugged into the iPod connection of a Jenson Marine radio. I had it in a little rubbery protecting case. This pas week I had to ride in the rain. While the iPod was protected from the rain moisture built up inside the case. Now it will play only when connect to the PC.
When it is connected to the PC everything works normal. ITunes does not need to be running, only it needs to be connected via the USB. I plug the speakers directly into the iPod and it work normally. But, when I un plug it, it dies. Not only does it quit playing but none of the keys are active. It is just DEAD. The display remains as it was but not moving. Of course I have reloaded factory defaults and started all over. But it is dead if not connected via USB 04/01/09

Hopefully someone can help. It was a $300 unit. I sure don't want to have to buy another.

wayneIt sounds like a battery issue to me. When you connect it to the PC it draws power from the computer and thus it is able to function. Apparently it doesn't have enough of its own juice anymore. You probably just need a new battery.

I have one itunes account with two phones assigned to it, sons and daughters, (5s). When i phone one of the numbers both phones have started to ring, only when connected to wifi at home. The problem does not occur when not connected to wifi. How do i resolve this please? texting is fine it is only when ringing one of the numbers.

The issue here is that HDMI cables, as the name indicates, carry audio signals to the monitor. Therefore if the monitor has no built in speakers then there will be no sound. If you have external speakers you can plug them into the audio out slot on the back of the monitor and the problem will be solved.
However, if the screen does have built in speakers you need to go Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Manage Audio Devices and set either your headphone jack or the screen to be the default device. And then you ca pick which device the sound will play from. Either yourlaptop speakers or whateer speakers are plugged into the laptop or the Monitor and whatever speakers are plugged into the monitor -
Hello, my iPhone charges when I charge it with the wall plug but not when connected to a computer via USB and my iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone either. iTunes recognizes my iPod and iPad just fine. I have been to Apple iPhone support page and I have restarted my iPhone, the computer, tried different USB ports, etc. I have also tried my iPhone on different macs even with different versions of iTunes and no luck. This all started when I was cleaning out some lint from the usb connector, could I have damaged some part of the docking connection? But why does it charge with a wall plug then?
I fixed the problem. When I was trying to clean the connector of the iPhone I must have bent some pins. I have straightened them to the best of my ability and now it syncs. If your iPhone charges, but doesn't sync, most likely you have a similar problem, because the iPhone doesn't need all of its pins to charge, but it does need all of them to sync.

Try resetting your phone by holding down the home and off button until the apple symbol comes up. Then if still doing, restore your phone in itunes from your backup.

Burned Image on screen, but only when using Safari
I have a burned image on my IPhone's screen, but only when I use Safari. Additionally, when I open Safari's multiple window viewer feature, the image is there as well. The home screen and every other app is unaffected. Turning off and on the phone does nothing to fix the problem.
I know removing the casing and battery is an adventure, so I am trying to avoid it if I can.
Can anyone think of a way to fix this problem?

From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
