Hangs, Slow performance, Long launch, etc

Hi all,
Okay, I have been working on this for a while, thought I'd bring it to your attention.
FCPX is getting slower and slower, taking 5 to 10 minutes to launch, takes 5+ minutes to load a 3 minute project (of optimized media), hangs for 3 to five minutes every few minutes or so (with beachball) with no background processes (like rendering) active.
The MOST interesting thing I have found in researching the problem is that when launching fcpx, AND when fcpx hangs, the four processors are not being utilized, only one processor shows activity at those points, and that processor is peaked at 100% usage.  The remaining three cores show no load at all.  FCP will hang like this for three to five minutes (with only 1 core being used), then will finally release and there will be partial usage of all four cores....  then a little while later, it will do it again.
BEFORE I realized that there was odd behavior with the processor utilization, here is what I have done to try to fix the problem (without success):
- all sync services are turned off
- all security and virus software off
- All disk protection software off
- Tossed render files
- created new admin user
- reinstalled FCPX
- tossed prefs
- disabled third party plug-ins
- disconnected all peripherals
- Disk Utility permissions and disk repair
- removed the few extra projects and events

It's an awesome application - you just need to see why it's not working well on your system.
First, check the spec of your iMac against the system requirements:
http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/
Particularly your graphics card. If it's listed here, it's not suitable:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system and use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended.
Other ways to improve performance:
Create optimised media.
Hide Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power.
Create folders in the Project library and put any projects you are not working on currently, in there. (Twirl it closed to hide them).
Move your Projects and Events to an external HD (make sure it's formatted OS Extended - with journaled on or off) and run from there.
Do you have FCS or FC 7 installed on the same partition as FCP X - not advised by Apple.
Keep Projects Short - the longer the project, the slower FCP X loads, works, and shuts down.

  • Slow Performance BI Launch Pad - BI 4 SP2 patch 8

    Hi experts, i have this seriuos problem: i have installed BI 4 SP2 patch 8 on windows server 2008 server based on 12 GB Ram but when tree user access at the same time at BI Launch Pad, the server has an lowering performance and to access in BI Launc pad is necessary attend  long time.
    Could you help me? Are there some configuration parameters to set?
    Thank's a lot.
    Andrea

    This is what I received from SAP:
    - It is a bug in the BI 4.0 product and an ADAPT01711291 has
    been raised for the same.
    - Please go through the attached KBA '1933935 - BI Launchpad search
    failing with error "The property with ID SI_CUID does not exist in the
    object" for non-Admin users' for   more  information.
    - As per the ADAPT details, it is targeted to be fixed in BI 4.0 SP10
    which is scheduled to release in July 2014 week 30
    - The schedule is subject is to change without prior notice. You can
    regularly check the SAP BusinessObjects maintenance schedule on the
    following link on SAP   service  marketplace
      SAP Support portal -> Software Downloads ->SAP Software Download
    Center -> Support Packages and Patches -> SAP Support Package stacks
    - You are using BI 4.1 SP2 and I did not find information about
    inclusion of fix of this issue in release notes of latest Service
    packs of BI 4.1 (SP3 or SP4)
    - So as per my knowledge you will have to wait for BI 4.0 SP 10 to
    release and the releases of BI 4.1 post to that will have the fix of
    this issue.

  • T42 hangs, extremely slow performance

    Hello,
    I can boot up my T42, but it works very slowly.  In safe mode with networking, it works great.  I have automatic updates turned on, but it cannot successfully download updates.  It still has service pack 2.  Not sure if that's related to slow performance.

  • Slow performance on a iMac 27" (maybe originated by the HDD)

    Hello,
    Well, I've had my iMac for 10 months now, but have never really paid attention to its performance since it was my first Mac and I was upgrading from a quite old computer, so it obviously proved to be a far superior machine.
    However, I noticed the problem when I started to be more critical with my machine's performance (this triggered by the fact that I bought, some months after, a MacBook Air which flies beyond time and space). Curious about this, I requested a friend to do a benchmark test with Xbench resulting in his machine (another iMac 27” with comparable specs) clearly outperforming mine. Even the Air, with its slower processor and smaller RAM, has a relatively close performance.
    Additionally, I have started to notice how the computer takes a long time to start-up and, after the desktop is “layed out”, it takes a lot of time before the machine becomes “responsive” (I usually try to start Mail and Google Chrome as soon as the pointer pops in!) with the final result that I have to wait in company of the beach ball for quite some seconds (half a minute) and even after the application had started, I can still hear the HDD working it as if there would be no tomorrow! And then, it is slooooow. Funnily enough, “tougher” applications like Photoshop or Illustrator don’t seem to have as many problems, relatively speaking.
    A little bit on the background info: I have two partitions: one for Bootcamp (since I was migrating from Windows, I had some software that I wanted to use there: Matlab and Office, basically, and then some smaller Windows-only programs).
    Derived from the benchmark test, I think I might have isolated the problem to the HDD (not sure though!).
    SO THE QUESTIONS ARE:
    1. How can I verify that the slow performance is due to the HDD being defective/badly configured/etc.?
    2. Has the Windows Bootcamp Partition any effect on my machine’s performance under MacOS? (I would assume not, but you never know!). I have more than 1.3 TB free space left
    3. What kind of corrective measures should I take?
    4. Any other type of advice will be warmly welcome: I will try to do some PRAM and SMC resets but I am not counting on it. I had also ran the disk utilities and there were no permission errors (not so sure what this means, but I’ve read that it is supposed to be good news.)
    5. Any extra info you might need, lemme know!
    Greetz,
    Víctor.
    PS: Sorry for the loooong post. I tried to be thorough!

    1. How can I verify that the slow performance is due to the HDD being defective/badly configured/etc.?
    Run Apple Hardware Test: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
    2. Has the Windows Bootcamp Partition any effect on my machine’s performance under MacOS? (I would assume not, but you never know!). I have more than 1.3 TB free space left
    Probably not but 1.3TB of free space left on the total HD is not enough for OS X, OS X needs a minimum of 10-15% free space! If you mean 1.3TB of Windows space I'd recommend posting that question in the Boot Camp forum.
    3. What kind of corrective measures should I take?
    If the drive is failing per the AHT then it's covered by warranty and will need to be replaced. Remember back up!!!!!!!!!!
    4. Any other type of advice will be warmly welcome: I will try to do some PRAM and SMC resets but I am not counting on it. I had also ran the disk utilities and there were no permission errors (not so sure what this means, but I’ve read that it is supposed to be good news.)
    Can't hurt, make sure you read the instructions carefully and execute the tests exactly as they are described for Intel based iMacs.
    5. Any extra info you might need, lemme know!
    If you no longer have a need for Windows on your iMac I'd recommend removing that partition using Boot Camp Assistant. That may correct your problems.
    I would also recommend checking if System Preferences - Startup Disk and see if your internal HD is highlighted as the Startup Disk.
    In addition I would recommend checking your Login Items (System Preferences - Accounts - Login Items) and delete any applications you don't need launching at Login.

  • My Macbook Pro gets slow the longer I use it?!

    Hi everyone, recently my MacBook Pro 2011 has been very slow. It started acting up about a week ago after I left my laptop on stand by mode for a while and when I returned to using it, the laptop was really slow, significantly slower compared to before. I restarted it and everything seemed fine but after using it for about 20 to 30 mins it starts to get slow again... As the result, I have to restart my laptop every 30 mins or so if I want to use it smoothly, but really... its very annoying having to restart it all the time. The symptoms are lag, slow application launch, applications not responding and A LOT of rainbow wheel...
    I have verified and repaired the permission and the drive in the Disk Utility but the problem persists. Does anyone have a solution for this problem? Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

    Here it is:

  • Slow performance in browser and OS -- EtreCheck Included

    Hello all, I'll keep this as short and detailed as possible.
    I bought a Macbook Pro for my wife two years ago, but the machine has been very slow since I got it for her.  I've always been a Windows guy myself and am very familiar with troubleshooting in a Windows environment.  I have almost no experience with OSX, however, and have no idea which applications would be needed for troubleshooting, etc.
    As my wife describes the issue, the OS itself is very slow.  She opens the laptop and a full twelve minutes pass before the system is fully responsive.  She has to keep pressing the power button for anything to work.  The screen will be greyed out and a loading bar will appear at the bottom.  It takes so long to load that the system falls asleep and she has to restart multiple times.
    I have noted that the browser is also slow.  My wife uses Safari almost all the time.  I installed Chrome to see how a fresh browser install would perform in OSX, and the speed was very slow as well.  An internet speed test at speedtest.net results in:
    Ping - 47ms
    Down Speed - 5.96 Mbps
    Up Speed - .89 Mbps
    Included below is the result from an Etrecheck run
    Problem description:
    Slow performance in browser and OS
    EtreCheck version: 2.1.6 (109)

    If the machine has always taken 12 minutes to start up, since it came out of the box, then it was and is defective. There's nothing to do in that case but to take it in for service.

  • Slow performance LR 1.3.1 (Library Module)

    LR 1.2 is running OK on my iMac. A while ago I tried LR 1.3. The upgrade really slowed down performance. Mostly a lag in the sliders and navigation tools in both Library and Develop modules that made it unworkable to me. I changed back to LR 1.2.
    Since I want to import Canon G9 RAW files into LR, I upgraded to LR 1.3.1 recently. Performance of sliders and the navigation tool in the Develop module seems the same as in LR 1.2 (or maybe even a little better). Which means it is OK (workable). It still shows the blur when navigating a 100% zoomed image though. But the navigation tool in the Library module still has the same slow performance as it had in LR 1.3. Unworkable!!! I tried everything: optimizing, new catalog, rendering previews, etc.
    I need the Library module to work smoothly (as in LR 1.2) in order to compare images at 100% zoom. I am afraid I have to go back to LR 1.2 again and find another solution for my Canon G9 RAW files. Most inconvenient. I am very disappointed. Especially, since Adobe showed they CAN get it right with the Develop module in version LR 1.3.1...
    Oh yeah, my system specs:
    iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    3GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM (2GB + 1GB)
    232,89 GB Harddrive, 113 GB available
    ATI Radeon X1600 128MB
    Mac OS 10.4.11
    Please Adobe, make the Library module run as smoothly as the Develop module in version 1.3.2...

    The preview folder is 2,11 GB big. The .lrcat is 47 MB big.
    I opened a new test catalog. I imported 326 images. After the import I rendered 1:1 previews. It took a long time. Real memory used was between 700-1000MB. Virtual memory used was between 1000-1400MB. When it was done rendering it still keep on using 700MB real memory and 1000MB virtual memory. I had to close LR and restart. Real memory after restart was 75MB real memory and 375 virtual memory.
    But it didn't matter. The lag in the navigation tool of the Library module was still there.
    I noticed that when clicking in the navigation window there was less delay as when I slide the white square in the window (in Library module). In the develop module this seems the other way around. Sliding showed less delay than clicking.
    What's going on here?
    I also have a MacBook. Performance seems much faster than on my iMac overall. After creating a new catalog and rendering 1:1 previews, the lag in the navigation window seems less than before. But it was still there...

  • Slow performance of PreparedStatement

    I am having difficulty with extremely slow performance or a relatively simply Microsoft SQL Server 2000 call from my Java applet. Most of the application runs fine, but there are certain parts that are repeatedly giving me a long delay before completing their execution. The code is as follows:
    // Create the try block for the execution of the SQL code
            try{
                // Create the command to be executed
                String command = new String( "select Description, Enabled " );
                command += "from tLineInfo where( Line = ? )";
                // Create the SQL text to be executed
                PreparedStatement get = _connection.prepareStatement( command );
                get.setInt( 1, lineNo );
                // Execute the SQL command
                ResultSet lineInfo = get.executeQuery();
                // Display the information accordingly
                if( lineInfo.next() ){
                    // Populate the user data fields
                    description.setText( lineInfo.getString( "Description" ) );
                          <! more display code here >
    }   // End of if statment
                else{
                    // Clear the user data fields
                    description.setText( " " );
                           <! more display code here >
                }   // End of else statements
                // Close the result set in preparation for the next query
                lineInfo.close();
            }   // End of try block
            catch( Exception e ){
                // Display a dialog box informing the user of the problem
                Object[] options = { "     OK     " };
                JOptionPane.showOptionDialog( null, e.getMessage(),
                        "Error",
                        JOptionPane.OK_OPTION, JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE,
                        null, options, options[ 0 ] );
            }   // End of Exception catch
            // Get the related area information
            populateAreaCombo( lineNo );
    private void populateAreaCombo( int lineNo ){
            // Format the areaComboBox
             try{
                // Create a command to get the devices from the database
                String command = new String( "select Area, [Name], [Description] " );
                command += "from tAreas where( Line = ? )";
                // Create the SQL statement to grab the information, and
                // populate the search parameter
                PreparedStatement getAreas =
                        _connection.prepareStatement( command );
                getAreas.setInt( 1, lineNo );
                // Execute the command
                ResultSet areas = getAreas.executeQuery();
                // Loop through the result set, and add collect the areas
                Vector< String > controlAreas = new Vector();
                while( areas.next() ){
                    // Add the area to the comboBox
                    controlAreas.add( Integer.toString( areas.getInt( "Area" ) ) +
                            " - " + areas.getString( "Name" ) + ": " +
                            areas.getString( "Description" ) );
                }   // End of while loop
                      <! more display code here >
                    The application always seem to pause at the second PrepraredStatement call:
    PreparedStatement getAreas =
                        _connection.prepareStatement( command );This seems to be a very simple operation, and it is not even the execution of the query where the long delay is realized. Rather, it is in the actual creation of the object prior to the execution.
    The delay is very repeatable at this exact statement each time.
    Additionally, of interest, is that the delay is only realized on computers remotely connected to the database. If I run this code on the localhost, then there is no delay. As soon as I distribute it, then the delay is incurred. That being said, there is not a network related issue that I can identify here. I have even isolated the server to be on the network with just one other PC, and the delay still persisted.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

    I can determine where the delay occurs by adding
    dialog boxes at a bunch of different steps, then
    monitoring them for when they appear; a little
    archaic, of course, but an easy way to find this
    out.You should
    1. Get the start time
    2. Get the current time at each step.
    3. Print the results at the end.
    4. Repeat a number of times to average.
    >
    When you say that I should not mix database code with
    display code... What exactly do you mean? To be
    more precise in my description, I was simply setting
    a bunch of different text fields and/or check boxes,
    etc., based on the result set returned. It was not
    as if I was creating a portion of the GUI there or
    something. I am assuming that is an allowable
    practice...
    You should have a class that does nothing but the database work. That class should be used by other classes (like classes that do GUI.)
    I have made little effort to close my resources, and
    sometimes they are not closed at all. When you say
    "resources", what exactly do you mean by that? Are
    you referring to the result sets, for example? I do
    not know of other resources that need to be closed,
    except for the connection to the DB itself. This, I
    have as persistent throughout the duration of the
    user's session.
    You must close result sets, statements and connections. They must be closed in that order.
    I am not running this code on the Internet, but it
    has been designed to be run on a small corporate
    network ( < 10 users). This is why I opted for the
    applet to run the entire application through instead
    of doing more HTML work.That is ok.

  • Very slow performance; external boot drive the cause?

    Greetings.
    I bought a 500 GB Hitachi drive for my iMac intending to install it myself. But, alas, I have an iSight iMac and I think it's beyond my ability to do the job. A Mac dealer nearby can do it for me, but wants the computer for two or three days, even thought the installation takes about an hour. They will not make an appointment for me to come in with it and wait.
    So I installed it the drive in an OWC Mercury Elite case, cloned the original drive, and have been booting from the Hitachi via Firewire 400. Just about everything is running at well under previous speeds. Lightroom now takes as much as two to five minutes to spool a large file for printing and sometimes does not even send the file to the printer (in fairness, the latter issue happened sometimes with the internal drive – I wrote about it here before – but at least it didn't take a long time to spool the file, which has to happen each time I click "print" until at last it actually goes to the printer).
    I'm getting slow performance from Safari (4.1.3), Mail (2.1.3), Lighroom 2, Photoshop (CS3). I can't say I've noticed problems elsewhere, but I rarely use other applications.
    I have done all the usual maintenance tasks, besides those the computer does automatically. Repaired permissions. Emptied caches. Burned sage. Etc.
    If this is the inevitable result of running from an external disk, then I'll have to brave the installation or pay someone to do it (which I would do immediately if I knew someone who would do it "while-u-wait").
    If, however, this sounds like booting from the external drive should not be the problem, and there is something I might do to speed things up, I'd be grateful for your suggestions.
    As always, thank you.
    Leonard B.

    Too bad about the site redesign. I had a draft of this message started, then got busy. Now I have no idea where to look for it. (And what happened to the Preview function?)
    ANYWAY…  I talked to a tech person at Other World Computing about the problem. He was of the opinion that the iMac SHOULD be showing some slower response if booted from the external drive, but that maybe the sluggishness in this case was excessive. He had me run a hardware scan to see whether there were any bad blocks. After 24 hours, Speed Tools reported no problems. So now I have run every diagnostic and repair tool I know of and every one that was suggested (every one that I own, that is), and the computer is still hesitating so much that I just have to get up and walk away from it sometimes in order to stay sane.
    I am booting from the original hard drive when I have to do extended internet research (Safari being the biggest speed offender), but run the iMac from the external drive when I have to do photo editing, since all my preferences, Lightroom libraries, etc., are located there. If I had the time to figure out just where the essential, and relevant, system and application files are located, I suppose that I could copy them and move them onto the internal drive. Then I could just use the external for storage of the image files (can't do that on the internal; there's not enough space). However, if what is going on (slowness issue) is indicative of a faulty drive, I'd rather not use it at all, even as a storage or backup drive.
    Any thoughts? Do you suppose this might be a problem with the computer, not with the new drive? I'd hate to ask OWC to exchange it (even if they would do that) and then find out I've got the same trouble.
    Thanks again in advance.
    Leonard

  • Slow performance after installation of new OS-X

    I don't know if anyone else has been experiencing the same problem as me, but it seemed to occur after I installed the new OS-X.
    My MacBook Pro has gone stremely slow and it seems to be related to MAIL. I thought that the standard MAIL program that comes with MAC was the problem, so I installed Postbox and that seemed to work for a while (1 day or 2) and then it was the same. It's not just email programs that are slow, but all programs.
    Click and wait seconds (10, 20, 30 sec) just for a program to open. Moving between files is so slow. I feel like I'm using Windows again.
    I'm no expert, but when I look at MEMORY usage, out of 4GB I'm using 3.8GB. My Virtual Memory is 4.76GB. See screen shot below.
    I would apprecaite if anyone can help me resolve what the problem is.
    Thanks
    Richard Giuliano

    First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
    Step 1
    This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}' | open -ef
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
    The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
    A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
    There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
    If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
    If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
    If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
    If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
    Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
    Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
    If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
    When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
    Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
    Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
    Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
    Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
    Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
    If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
    Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
    Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
    When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
    Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • E50 very slow performance

    my E50 is giving very slow performance anyway to tune it up ?? dosn't hangs but its slow ?? any solution ps whats the best antivirus to install in E50 ?

    I don't use your same workflow, and I assume you're shooting RAW. However,  after I have built 1:1 previews in LR (which takes a LONG time), when I click on a file to decide if it's sharp or not, it still takes 5-10 seconds for each file to load. And my computer isn't slow, and I have the same issue on my laptop, which is new and fast. I haven't seen a satisfactory answer to this problem, nor much acknowledgement from Adobe. My files are from a Nikon D7100 with 24 megapixels, so the file size is likely a factor.
    If you are shooting the type of subjects where you use 1:1 previews primarily to determine sharpness, you could consider Photo Mechanic (unfortunately it costs $150) as the first step in your workflow. It uses the embedded jpg files in the RAW file, so it loads 1:1 jpg previews almost instantly. Sports and nature photographers use this product all the time, mostly to delete losers.

  • My Mac has been suffering a slow performance, lagging and often froze. One source recommends using Onyx. Is that a trustable source?

    I have a Macbook Pro OS X Version 10.9.4. Processor speed of 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, memory of 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and storage capacity of 203.51 GB out of 319.21 GB. I have been experiencing very slow performance and sometimes the screen will froze. The spinning wheel is very common and long. I have try to delete as many things as i could from my computer, restarting it but to no avail. One source suggests me to use Onyx. Would that help to solve my problem?

  • Slow performance of discoverer portlets

    Hi,
    I am running into slow performance of a particular page in portal, there are multiple sites hosted on the portal but these all have static text and are very quick to load but the one page with discoverer portlets and a web-clippping portlet is taking ages. If I run these reports on their own they are instant. Has anyone had similar problems with 9.0.2 portal and the discoverer reports ? I tried to identify a particular report that may be the culprit by deleting them one by one and to no avail. After a few hours effort I found the design mode was hanging as well. Again, just for this 1 page.
    There are 3 tabs on this page with about 4 report portlets and 1 web-clipping portlet.
    Thanks for any help,
    Brandon

    Thanks for the help.
    Seems to have been resolved although I'm not sure if thats the end of the story. Will wait and see.....
    So far apparently a port conflict of some sort in the discoverer config was causing it to hang and then also other system demands on the network and server housing the discoverer end-user layer were also causing problems.
    No error messages unfortunately......

  • Slow Performance - Java Related?

    This is an old box that I bought used recently, but the system install is recent. The system performs very slowly - about 50% of the speed of comparable Mac's in the XBench database. If I use Xupport to manully run "All" of the system maintenance crons I get some improvement, but it quickly goes back to being slow.
    Looking at my logs I have a "boat load" of Java errors under CrashReporter; there will be a string of "JavaNativeCrash_pidXXX.log" entries - many of them, as follows:
    An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
    Unexpected Signal : Bus Error occurred at PC=0x908611EC
    Function=[Unknown.]
    Library=/usr/lib/libobjc.A.dylib
    NOTE: We are unable to locate the function name symbol for the error
    just occurred. Please refer to release documentation for possible
    reason and solutions.
    Many of the line entries that follow, but not all of them, refer to SargentD2OL, which is a Java app, which I installed, but it did not work properly so I removed it. Yet I continue to get Java errors that refer to this now non-existant app.
    I have read that Java apps use a lot of resources, and that D2OL in particular uses a lot of resources. Can my slow performance problem be Java related? If so, any idea of how I can fix this problem?
    G4 AGP Graphics   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   500 MHz, 512M RAM

    Sorry to take so long to respond, but other issues in life have demanded my attention.
    None of the solutions given have had any affect. My Java folder has both a 1.3.1 and a 1.4.2 app - the Java Update 2 will not reinstall because it sees an up-to-date app in the folder. But reading the update file it says the older Java will be removed - but it is still there. Problem?
    On XBench the system scores a 9 to 10, while similar boxes on the XBench database score around 18 to 20. My cpu, memory, and video scores are very low. The HD through-put scores are the only ones that are normal. TechTool Pro 4 finds no problems. I have removed the memory sticks one at a time and retested after each cycle - no difference.
    I have two drives, each with a 10.3.9 install. One works fine, scores around a 17 on XBench, the other scores a 9 to 10. So it appears to be a software problem. The slower install is a drive from a iMac G3 that has been moved to the G4 - are there issues with this?
    My favored drive is the prior G3 one (newer and faster than the other drive that system tests faster in XBench) - it has my profile and all my info on it. It worked fine in the G3 - no problems.
    Thanks for the help,
