Happy For Statement Question

Greetings,
I have this code I'm trying to deeply understand....
for(int i=0;i<2;i++){
            for(int j=0;j<3;j++){
                System.out.println("i= :" + i + " j= :" + j );
            }THIS IS THE OUTPUT:
i= :0 j= :2 // < ----------- my question begins at this location????
i= :1 j= :0
i= :1 j= :1
i= :1 j= :2
Question for you:
Why is J=2 on the very first go around???? Shouldn't J=0 on the first go around???? Please help me understand why this is not the case.
Thank you for your help

  • For statement question

    Is there any way I can do this:
    var photo1:MovieClip = this["pol" + n].photo_mc;
    for (var n = 1; n < 10; n++) {
    this["pol" + n].photo_mc;
    I have a movie clip (photo_mc) and that one movie clip is
    inside 9 movie clips labeled pol1 through pol9.
    Right now, if I just write:
    var photo1:MovieClip = pol1.photo_mc;
    it does reference the photo_mc movie clip. I need it to
    reference the other photo_mc's however in the other numbered "pol"
    + n....
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks!

    yes, if you swap the first and second lines. The var
    photo1:MovieClip = this["pol"+n].photo_mc; doesn't have an "n" for
    reference, as its outside the loop.
    Of course, you are going to want 9 different variables as
    well... so:
    var photo1:MovieClip, photo2:MovieClip, photo3:MovieClip,
    photo4:MovieClip, photo5:MovieClip, photo6:MovieClip,
    photo7:MovieClip, photo8:MovieClip, phopto9:MovieClip;
    for(var n:Number=1 ; n < 10 ; n++){
    this["photo"+n] = this["pol"+n].photo_mc;
    The first block is only necessary if you are using
    Actionscript 3 (as all of the variables need to be declared before
    you use them). If you are using Actionscript 2, then you only need
    the for loop.

    An absolute URL will be a complete URL, it traces from the abosulte root of a file's location on a server...
    http://www.thesite.com/assets/images/Front_Page_Rotating_Banner/banners.xml
    A relative URL is anything short of including the http://domain..., and is read relative to wherever the file using it exists
    assets/images/Front_Page_Rotating_Banner/banners.xml
    In Flash files though, relative links need to be specified relative to the HTML page that embeds the swf.  So if the swf is in a different folder than the html page that embeds it, the swf's targeting must be adjusted as if it were actually in the html file's folder.

    There seems to be a bug in the thread view for unanswered questions that says
    This question is not answered. Helpful answers available: 5. Correct answers available: 1.
    for any unanswered questions. The 5 and 1 numbers are fixed text and never change, like they are placeholders for some calculation that was going to be implemented to count posts flagged as helpful / correct that was never implemented.
    Also, it would be nice when replying to a post if the new page displayed contained the original post being replied to at the top for reference and copy/paste whlie composing the replies. This is pretty standard functionality on public message boards.

    It's amazing how many newbies to the forum come on and complain about the way it works before even getting any proper knowledge of it. Did you really think that something as basic as those things would not have been considered before?

  • Problem with the FOR statement.....again!

    Hi everyone,
    Well I'm still trying to do a car slideshow using external
    files and can't seem to see the end. The current movie is here:
    http://www.virtuallglab.com/projects.html
    I also attach the code. My problem is I had originally set up
    an animation with 2 pictures sliding in with some text, and then
    wait 4 seconds before sliding out, and then next pictures and text
    would slide in and so on, using a setInterval.
    The problem is the FOR loop seems to skip the setInterval and
    the function "wait", so it just loops quickly and jumps to last
    picture, so on the example above, it just slides the last picture
    (i=9) and that's it!
    Can you not include another function within a FOR statement.
    Or is there a way to tell the FOR loop to wait until all motion is
    finished?
    Any help greatly appreciated
    import mx.transitions.*;
    import mx.transitions.easing.*;
    for (i=0; i<10 ; i++) {
    var picLeft = "pics/"+i+".jpg";
    var picRight = "pics/"+i+"b.jpg";
    var txtToLoad = "text/"+i+".txt";
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("leftHolder",1);
    leftHolder.loadMovie(picLeft,i,leftHolder.getNextHighestDepth());
    leftHolder._x = -200;
    leftHolder._y = 15;
    var leftTween:Tween = new Tween(leftHolder, "_x",
    Strong.easeOut, leftHolder._x, 10, 2, true);
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("centerHolder",2);
    centerHolder.loadMovie(picRight,i+"b",centerHolder.getNextHighestDepth());
    centerHolder._x = 180;
    centerHolder._y = 250;
    var centerTween:Tween = new Tween(centerHolder, "_y",
    Strong.easeOut, centerHolder._y, 15, 2, true);
    text._x = 600;
    myData = new LoadVars();
    myData.onLoad = function(){
    text.carText.text = this.content;
    myData.load(txtToLoad);
    var textTween:Tween = new Tween(text, "_x", Strong.easeOut,
    text._x, 420, 2, true);
    myInterval = setInterval(wait, 4000);
    function wait() {
    var leftTweenFinished:Tween = new Tween(leftHolder, "_x",
    Strong.easeOut, leftHolder._x, -200, 1, true);
    var centerTween:Tween = new Tween(centerHolder, "_y",
    Strong.easeOut, centerHolder._y, 250, 1, true);
    var textTween2:Tween = new Tween(text, "_x", Strong.easeOut,
    text._x, 600, 1, true);
    clearInterval(myInterval);
    ***************************************************************************************** ***

    There is no way to tell a for loop to wait. That is not what
    they do.
    The entire for loop will execute (if possible, and it doesn't
    enter some kind of continuous infinite loop) completely before each
    time the frame is rendered.
    If you want to spread things out over time you need to use
    the setInterval -- but not inside a for loop! If you do that you
    immediately set however many intervals as your loop has. In this
    case you will also assign the ids for those intervals to the same
    variable, effectively overwriting the value so you will never be
    able to clear most of those intervals.
    So you need to rethink you whole structure. Set up some kind
    of counter and limit like this:
    var slidesToShow:Number=10;
    var curSlide:Number=0;
    Then have your setInterval increment the curSlide each time
    it is called and check to see if it has shown all of them. That is
    where your "loop" comes in.
    As for the other part of your question -- yes you actually
    have two different issues going on -- again you cannot make a for
    loop wait for anything. So no there is no way to pause it while you
    wait for your tween to end. But you can be notified when a tween
    ends.
    Check out the documentation about the tween class in the help
    files. There you will find the onMotionFinished event. So you can
    set up one of those to start whatever needs to be started when the
    tween has finished.
    You should also use the MovieClipLoader class to load your
    images, because you have no idea how long it will take to load
    them. Using that class you get a nice event (onLoadInit) that tells
    you when the asset is ready to be used.
    Finally I'm thinking you might want to use setTimeout instead
    of setInterval. It only goes once, while setInterval repeats
    forever. So I would think your algorithm would be something like
    this.
    1. load external asset
    2. when ready animate in and set onMotionFinished handler
    3. when motion is finished start loading next asset and
    setTimeout for 4 seconds.
    4. when 4 seconds is up or the clip is loaded (which ever
    takes longer) go to 2 and repeat.
    If this is going to be run locally on a hard drive or CD you
    won't have any problem with the length of time it takes to load the
    external assets, but if it is over the web it will take time.

  • Using multiple variable names in a for statement?

    I have searched, and I just can't seem to find how to do something, I do not have the code atm, but easy enough to explain...
    I have a GUI that has 3 rows of 3 fields...
    emp1Name, emp1Phone, emp1Fax
    emp2Name, emp2Phone, emp2Fax
    emp3Name, emp3Phone, emp3Fax
    I also have a tabbed file that has the input for each of these fields, it looks something like...
    Mike 602-111-1111 602-111-1112
    Dave 602-222-2222 602-222-2223
    Bethany 602-333-3333 602-333-3334
    Here is my method...
        private void getFile() {
            myFile = new File("C:/javainput.txt");
            msgField.setText("Welcome!");
            try {
                BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(myFile));
                String s;
                while ((s=br.readLine())!=null){
                    String f[] = s.split("\t");
                    emp1Name.setText(f[0]);
                    emp1Phone.setText(f[1]);
                    emp1Fax.setText(f[2]);
                br.close();
            } catch (IOException e) {
                msgField.setText("INPUT FILE NOT FOUND!");
        }My question is, how do I cycle through emp1, emp2 and emp3 in a for statement. I tried empName, but that obviously isn't correct.
    Help, or point me to where I can read on this?
    Thank you!

    Do one thing at a time. First, define your Employee class. Compile it, debug it. Test it. Make sure that you can create Employees, set their names, phone numbers, etc., and get them back.
    Once that works, familiarize yourself with arrays, if necessary, completely separately from your Employee class.
    Once you're comfortable with arrays and with defining a new class (i.e., Employee), write a tiny test program that just, say, creates an array of a certain size and populates it with Employees, and then iterates over it printing out each Employee's information to the console.
    Once that works, set it aside. Now work on a GUI. Start by just displaying one or two hardcoded names and phone numbers. Once that works, add a bit more to it--say by getting that hardcoded information from inside Employee objects.
    And so on.
    Right now you're biting off too much at once. Keep working on one very small new step at a time, only move on to the next step once the previous one is solid, and do the steps independently of each other first, and then combine their respective results. It may sound like a lot of work, but I promise you, in the end, it's faster, easier, and far less frustrating to do it this way.
    At any given step, if you get stuck, post a question here, providing an [url http://sscce.org]SSCCE that shows what you're trying to do, and clearly explain exactly what problems you're having.

    Data Dictionary :
    1) Diff between Append Structure and Include Structure ?
    Append Structure - This structure can be used only one time to append. Append structures are useful for standard tables.
    Include Structure - This structure can be used in multiple tables. Include structures are useful for our own custom tables.
    2) What is Table Type ?
    A table type is a type that describes the structure and functions of an internal table in the ABAP program. In simple words table table will act as an internal table without header line.
    3) How the table entries are going to store, Is it Case sensitive, or in Capital Letter or in Small letter or as we give ?
    Yes it is case sensitive.
    Use translate statement to convert Upper case or Lower case.
    4) How many indexes we can give for a table ?
    1 primary index automatically created and we can create up to 15 secondary indexes.
    Reports :
    1) How can we enable the verticle scroll in a table control that comes in 2 nd screen of ME 21 T.code ?
    set <tablecontrol>-lines = 0.this code you have to put in one suitable userexit.then it applies to standard tcode ME21N.
    2) What is BSEG table ?
    BSEG table is a FI table for Accounting Document details.
    3) How can you create Table Control ?
    controls : tabcont type tableview using screen '3000'.
    PROCESS AFTER INPUT
    MODULE mod AT EXIT-COMMAND.

    ENDLOOP.
    MODULE user_command.
    4) Diff between At Selection Screen on Field & At selection Screen Output ?
    AT-SELECTION SCREEN ON FIELD
    is to validate a particular selection screen field.
    if any error comes it will open only this field and other fields will be disabled.
    AT-SELECTION SCREEN OUTPUT
    is used to do dynamic screen modifications on the screen.
    5) What are things we need to take care before using the Read Statement ?Example of Read Statement with Index ?
    do sort before read data from table.
    6) How many ways are there to select a Particular Data from the table ?
    using views or directly u can select data.
    7) I want fetch the 10 th row and 5 th column from the list, How will you do it ?
    sorry...
    BDC :
    1) If we write Transaction Statement 2 times for a application What happens ?

    2) If for Example , I had to upload 10 items for one header. The 5 items are uploaded, but the Sixth record is not uploaded ? How can you upload that data from 6 th Record ?
    within the loop u have to write the code for the 6th record and then process again.
    3) Tell me the Detail Steps in uploading the Data from Application Server ?
    use DATASETS for uploading data from application server.
    4) One Scenario, i am having 10 records in a file & when i am uploading the data everytime the 1st record is overlapping with already existing data, How you are going to handle this ?
    write CLEAR statement before endloop.
    5) What is meant by MASK in Upload function ?
    sorry...
    6) what are the parameters you will pass withine BDC_INSERT ?
    TCODE-import parameter
    DYNPROTAB-tables parameter
    SAP- Script :
    1) I want to display quantity & Price based on Particular Language and Country in SAP Script , How we can do that ?
    One particular statement is there for that, What is that ?
    Actually u will get quantity and price based on language using SE63 transaction.it is used for language conversion.
    2) The Logo Upaloaded got Inverted , then How you are going to handle this situation ?
    just check the printer settings again.
    3) The logo uploaded using RSTXLDMC programe, Where it is going to store ?
    STXBITMAPS is the table which stores all the logos.
    4) can we see Tiff files in SE 78 T.code ? What are the file extension of Logo we can upload to SAP
    No we cannot upload .tiff files using SE78 ..here u can upload only bmp and jpg logos...if u want to upload .tiff files go to standard program RSTXLDMC..by using this you can do.
    5) How to check the changes made in the standard layout set , other than using Utilities--- -> Print preveiw ?
    by executing the formprogram.
    User Exit :
    1) Suppose i have used a fuction Module Exit, But is in Inactive status , What is The error it is going to give during runtime ?
    u didn't get any error message but that functionality cannot applied to it..thats it.
    2) Suppose i want to delete the Function Module exit from one project and i want to use it for another project ? what are steps you follow to delete it ?
    first go to that perticular project..within this u have one enhancement..just click on that one...and go to that function module which u are assigned..remove the code and activate..delete enhancement and activate that project..now u can use that enhancement in other projects.
    BADI
    1) Is that all the Predefined BADI's present in SAP are reusable ?
    here reusable means u can do multiple implementations for all BADI's.
    Rewards if it helpful.

  • ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable error & OPEN-FOR statement ...

    Hi,
    I have a procedure that opens a cursor which returns a result set based on a dynamic SELECT statement. The IN clause
    in most cases needs to handle more than 1000 expressions. So to avoid the ORA-01785 error, I use a function to
    convert the comma separated list of ids (which are unknown) into a collection which can then be used in the sub query
    to process each expression or id. I assumed that the maximum string length I could use for these list of ids was
    32767, i.e. VARCHAR2. But f I attempt to open the cursor with a list of ids where the string length is greater than 4000 bytes , the cursor is invalid
    and it seems to throw the following Oracle error:
    ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion ...
    Note that anything less than 4000 bytes is fine. I have attached some of the code below and would appreciate if anyone
    could tell me what im doing wrong! For example, can a varchar2 variable greater than 4000 bytes not be used when
    executing dynamic SQL in the context of the OPEN-FOR statement?
    -- Create type to hold collection of identifiers.
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE IDList IS TABLE OF NUMBER;
    -- Function which converts a string of comma separated list of identifiers
    -- into a collection.
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION fnConvertIDListToCollection(
         varList IN VARCHAR2,
         varDelimiter IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT ',')
    RETURN IDList
    IS
         varString long := varList || varDelimiter;
         varPos pls_integer;
         varData IDList := IDList();
    BEGIN
         LOOP
              varPos := instr(varString, varDelimiter);
              EXIT WHEN (nvl(varPos, 0) = 0);
              varData.extend;
              varData(varData.count) := trim(substr(varString, 1, varPos - 1));
              varString := substr(varString, varPos + 1);
         END LOOP;
         RETURN (varData);
    END;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE MyTestProc
    myCursor OUT SYS_REFCURSOR
    AS
    varListOfIds VARCHAR2(32767);
    BEGIN
         -- Hard coding this for now but this will be an incoming parameter containing a list
         -- of unknown ids, separated with commas.
         varListOfIds := '1,2 .. , 5000';
         OPEN myCursor FOR
         'SELECT     DISTINCT val1, val2, val3
         FROM TABLEA
         WHERE     val1 IN (select * from table(cast(fnConvertIDListToCollection(:ListOfIds) as IDList)))' USING varListOfIds;
    END;
    /

    APC,
    Many thanks for the suggestion and yes I could possibly implement an alternative solution, certainly for some cases but I need to investigate further for others. I'm migrating some SQL Server logic over to Oracle and that was simply the approach taken on that platform.
    Could I trouble you with one further question as a newbie to all of this. I hinted in my last response that I was somewhat confused over the limits with the use of varchar2 variables in PL/SQL. If I were building up a piece of dynamic SQL (e.g. SELECT statement including a WHERE clause) using an incoming VARCHAR2 parameter for the WHERE clause, can this parameter contain more than 4000 bytes if necessary. I assumed it could be as big as 32767 bytes but an earlier response suggested a maximum of 4000 bytes. Really sorry for probably a fairly basic Oracle question but it would be very appreciated if you could explain this to me.
    Again, many thanks.

  • Method calls in switch and for statements

    I have 2 questions concerning method calls in switch and for statements. Consider these two chunks of code:
    1)
         switch (foo.getIntegerValue()){
              case 1:
              case 2:
         }My question is, is getIntegerValue() being called for every case statement (since it has to compare with each case) or is the method called only once?
    2)
    for (Foo bla : xyz.compileFoos()) {
    }Is compileFoos called once or on every iteration?
    I assume it gets called only once but I would like to be sure. The reason I ask is of course to avoid multiple method calls.
    any help is appreciated

         Once, and the value returned compared to each "case" in turn.

  • XRaid Setup for Facility-Questions

    We are a small production facility and I'm moving towards shared storage. Here is the system I was thinking of getting, so if anyone wants to give any advice, I'd be happy to accept and very appreciative.
    -We currently have 3 rooms: 2 G5's and 1 Intel 3.0 Quad all running Final Cut Pro regularly editing DVCPro HD and SD Uncompressed and DV.
    I'm going to lease:
    -XRaid fully populated with either 500 or 750gig drives (advice?)
    -3 Dual Channel 2Gig Fibre cards
    -Qlogic SANbox Express 1403 Fibre Switch
    -Cables-Need 2 runs of over 25 feet to rooms
    -MetaSAN software
    -Placement: Can the XRaid live in our edit suite in our rack? Is it too loud to have in a suite? (We don't have a dedicated machine room.)
    -Cable? Fiber optic or copper? Our rooms are all next to each other, but obviously, just to get cable up the wall, over the ceiling, etc, we will definitely be more than the 3 meters limit of copper. Am I correct on this that we have to go optical with these transceiver units??
    -Size:750 versus 500's? Anyone have any negative experiences with the 750's? Greater chance of problems with them? Run much hotter? It seems way cost effective to go 750's for only an additional $1400 to get an extra several TB's...
    -RAID: Best setup? I've only started researching, but it sounds like I should Raid 0 both sides individually and then stripe them Raid 50 together. How much drive space will I lose doing it this way for safety? Is this correct?
    Thanks a lot for any help. This stuff is a little out of my techy comfort zone...
    Kevin

    Your setup sounds fine. As for specific questions:
    >-Placement: Can the XRaid live in our edit suite in our rack? Is it too loud to have in a suite? (We don't have a dedicated machine room.)
    To be honest, I'm not certain about the noise since all my RAIDs are surrounded by XServes, CRAC units/air handers, etc., etc. Anecdotal evidence says they're noisy, If it's too noisy for you, something like the XRack Pro might be an idea solution.
    >-Cable? Fiber optic or copper? Our rooms are all next to each other, but obviously, just to get cable up the wall, over the ceiling, etc, we will definitely be more than the 3 meters limit of copper. Am I correct on this that we have to go optical with these transceiver units??
    Copper cables can run up to 50 meters, so the choice is yours.
    I've purchased long copper cables from CS Electronics before and have been very happy with them. They'll even make custom length if you want/need that.
    >Size:750 versus 500's?
    750's. No question. As you note, the price difference is small compared to what you get.
    >-RAID: Best setup? I've only started researching, but it sounds like I should Raid 0 both sides individually and then stripe them Raid 50 together. How much drive space will I lose doing it this way for safety? Is this correct?
    Ordinarily I'd say RAID 50, as you hint (although this is a striped (RAID 0) array of RAID 5 volumes, I'm guessing your 'RAID 0' comment was a typo.
    However, if you're using a SAN product you should check with the vendors. Presumably the SAN is going to virtualize the storage and therefore it might not matter how the RAID is configured. In most cases I'd recommend RAID 5 on the XServe RAID itself, so it's the RAID 0 element that's most questionable.
    You might also need to take performance into account. Ordinarily RAID 50 gives best performance, but only for a single host. If you have multiple hosts contending for disk access you might find that separate volumes, with individual servers weighted towards one array or another gives you a better solution since each machine is unaffected (or, at least, less affected) by what the other is doing.

  • Using for statements.

    Hello again,
    I am just learning how to use the for statements and the while statements and am having some problems.
    I need to display the squares of numbers from 1-10. Here is what I have and am getting an error for an illegal expression. My question is, How do I set up the code to recognize the squaring?
    public class squareFor
         public static void main(String[] args)
              int total = 0;
              for(int number = 1; number *=1)
              total *= number;
              System.out.printf("Sum is %d\n", total);
         }

    Well I tried a little bit more and this is what I got. Why am I not able to get them to square?
    public class squareFor
         public static void main(String[] args)
              int total = 0;
              for(int number = 1;number <= 10; number ++)
                   int x= 1*1;
                   int w= 2*2;
                   int y= 3*3;
                   int z= 4*4;
                   int a= 5*5;
                   int b= 6*6;
                   int c= 7*7;
                   int d= 8*8;
                   int e= 9*9;
                   int f= 10*10;
              total *= number;
              System.out.printf("Sum is %d\n", total);
    }

  • Folder with happy faces & a question marks

    My iBook G4 goes from chime to a black page and then to a grey screen with a folder with an alternating happy face & a question mark??? I have reset P-ram. I have run TechTool Pro and fixed all permissions and volumes and I have run Disk Utility and start-up disk off my 10.4 install disk. In all cases, the hard drive was recognized by Disk Utility and TechTool Pro 5. But still no proper startup or restart. I have also " reset nv-ram" and "reset all" from command line.
    I have also reloaded 10.4. No change.
    Any suggestion on what to try next???????
    Thanks

    Yes I repaired the disk as well (numerous times). I have also tried an Archive and Install. I have checked the drive for disk corruption with TechTool Pro 5. I have connected via Target mode and see the drive and ran all tests over again. I have even reinstalled 10.4.6 (install disk) with erase of the disk. Nothing seems to work. All diagnostic, repair and connections see the hard drive, but no proper start up.
    Is there a possibility that the bios firmware is corrupted or a hardware problem that still allows you to see the drive??? Please note that I had only 4 gig of disk space left on 60 Gig driven (less than 10%)....Yes I know that is bad but I was out of town at the time that it went south.

  • Trying to purchase on iTunes for the first time on new Mac, asking for verifying questions-saying answers are incorrect. Reset password,still won't allow purchase without answering questions. Any advice?

    Trying to purchase on itunes, using new Mac...asking for security questions but won't accept answers. reset password and iTunes still asks for security questions. Any advice?

    After resetting your questions you've tried logging out (tap on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store) and back into your account on your iPad to see if they then tie up ?
    If they don't, and resetting them yourself doesn't make any difference, then you could try contacting Support and see if they can help with what's going on.
    Normally when needing to contact support to get the questions reset you need to contact Support in your country : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
    You could try the same contact method for your problem - or you could try contacting iTunes Support via this page, but as it's related to security questions they might just point you to the above : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ , click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
    For the $9.99 purchase and your $10 credit, if you are in the US then you need to add on your state's sales tax to an item's listed price
