Happy iPhone 5-Eve to everybody!

Congratulations to everybody who is lucky enough to be getting the iPhone 5 tomorrow. I am very excited! I am very sorry for those of you who were unable to pre-order it in time to get it tomorrow, but your time will come very soon and it will be well deserved! Anybody else excited? Post here when you get your phone!

Yeah, first my thought was also that... that's why I've gone to Apple and they already switched the phone twice!!!
Last time was yesterday... I posted this here because I came from Apple and with a new iPhone 5, although I didn't restore anything from iCloud, I hadn't even logged in to iCloud / AppStore, and without any event on the lockscreen my iPhone 5 was already "locked" on the unlock screen... after a mere 45m after I used it without a single App!! Just a couple of SMS / 1 or 2 calls... I'm going to Apple again on monday, but tried to post here to see if this has happened before to anyone with 3 new iPhones!!!

  • I am a HAPPY iphone user

I know these message boards are primary for people who have been experiencing problems. But every now and then I am sure some of you would like to see a positive post about people who are not experiencing any problems if for nothing else, you may have peace of mind knowing that EVERY iphone is not a piece of junk.
When I first saw the iphone the day it was announced I knew I must have it. However, I sure as **** wasn't going to pay their asking price. So I turned away with my tail in between my legs thinking the iphone would never be mine. THEN the price drop was announced. As soon as I heard I went to my local AT&T store (keep in mind I am already a Cingular/AT&T customer- so it was only a hardware change for me). I was expecting to buy the $299 4Gb version. The store employee told me they were sold out of the 4Gb version and only had the 8Gb version for $399 and that I will have a hard time finding the 4Gb model because they were discontinued. My gut feeling told me "bait and switch" but I didn't feel like driving to a different AT&T store to find a 4Gb phone. I ponied up the extra hundred bucks and got the 8Gb model. In hindsight, I am glad I got the 8Gb version- I almost have it filled.
What struck me as odd was that the ATT store only sold me the phone. They did not activate it or anything. They told me they only sell the phone, I need to bring it home and activate it myself through itunes. I have had cell phones for a long time (since the late 80's) and the company rep in the stores have ALWAYS set up my phones. The activation process was simple and straightforward. I encountered ZERO problems.
Using the phone has been a positive experience. I love the phone and it is the coolest device I have ever owned. It truly does live up to the hype Steve Jobs portrayed in his announcement. It is a little devive that does in fact do it all. Sure there are shortcomings, as with anything else. No one device is 100% perfect. At least Apple is listening to it's customers. My biggest gripe is the speakerphone volume- I do concede the speakerphone is useless. Handset volume is fine and the speaker volume when playng music/videos is more than adequate. There is only so much you can expect from such a tiny speaker. The recessed headphone jack was kind of a disappointment, but it is logical as to why Apple did this. First and formost the iphone is a phone. Apple wants you to use their headset with the built in mic. If they left the headphone jack unrecessed and you can freely use any headphone you wanted, customers would be complaining they can't answer their calls. The ipod touch is first and foremost a media player, hence it has a "normal" "unrecessed" headphone jack. Another "perceived" shortcoming is not being able to MMS pictures. However, Apple does not advertise the messaging feature as MMS, they advertise it as SMS- so you can't really fault Apple on this one. The e-mail workaround is more than adequate.
My only gripe with the iphone is the ringtone DEBACLE. I don't know why Apple is doing it the way they are, but all I can say is it is very disappointing and I'll leave it at that.
I did have an issue with the 1.1.1 update and I thought I had bricked my phone. But I came to these forums and found how to fix it and now I am happy. Let's just say the update did not go smoothly and I hope future updates won't be so troublesome. I can't even blame this on Apple- I believe my computer was the culprit here. I had a power surge once and ever since then my USB has been flakey. I installed itunes on another computer and did the update on that. It all went smooth on a second computer. I know a lot of people do not have that option though.
So here I am, a happy customer posting on the Apple Support Forums.

Anthony - I'm happy to say that I've had a similar experience. This has been absolutely the best phone I've ever had. I hardly ever used my iPod Video anymore, because I was tired of dragging around two things to shove into my pockets. Now I'm actually listening to music on the go again, which is great for when you walk into a store and can ignore all the sales associates nagging you to buy something.
"Sorry - I was listening to some music, did you say something?"
All too often these forums are nothing but complaints & whining, and you'll never make everyone 100% happy, but so far I sure am!

  • I'm a happy iPhone 4 user

Just wanted to post a non-doom and gloom topic on the iPhone. I'm loving it so far. No issues with battery life, weird yellow tint on the screen or bad reception. However, I can replicate the problem with holding my hand on the lower left side of the phone, making the antenna disappear. But i haven't been having trouble with calls (i've had several very long phone calls on it so far) or data. I do believe this is an issue Apple should bust their *** to fix though, and I'm disappointed in Steve Jobs' response to that issue. It cements his status as a total douche in my mind. But anyhow, I hope those of you that have problems get them corrected.

Make that 2 in a million. I've not had any problems whatsoever.
Make that 3 in a million because I have also experienced no problems. Well, some set-up issues at first but that's typical of any new device I think. No screen issues, no reception issues (unless I intentionally try to wreck the reception by placing a house key over the antenna, which is a neat experiment but totally unnecessary if you are able to make calls by holding it like you would any other phone, what's the point?). I have made calls and everything is working great. I have a bumper on the way and an invisible shield full body protection from Zagg. Can't wait for those two things because right now I am holding like its the holy grail and if I drop it my life will end. Which it probably will because I would not be able to live with a cracked iPhone...but I digress.

  • How can we get Apple to address bent iPhone 5 problem?

I have a bent iPhone 5. The device had gentle wear and was enclosed in protective case. AT&T told me the bending indicates a manufacturer's defect and I should get a replacement from Apple, but Apple's online and Apple Store representatives refuse to accept responsibility. They will not acknowledge that the alumiumum frame is inherently fragile, more so than previous iPhone frames, and the device requires a higher level of caution.
Consumers around the world report the same problem. See below.
    http://www.ubergizmo.com/2012/12/is-the-iphone-5-prone-to-bending/

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1459792
Apple promoted this device in part as a triumph of engineering. Thinner, yet very strong.
So what does it take to pressure Apple to acknolwedge this product defect? And make good with its customers?

Shame on you apple!  I have been an avid Apple fanboy for years.  I have owned all iterations of the iPhone except the iPhone 4.  I have always believed in your products.  I have sold five times as many of your products by word of mouth than I have bought, and believe me, I have owned pretty much anything with your logo on it that has been produced in the last eight years.  You were always a little bit behind the cutting edge, but I always bought your products because they simply worked.  Under the reign of Steve Jobs you did a superb job ensuring your products became extensions of the human body, synchronously living our day to day lives with us, device in hand.
Then I bought the iPhone 5.  From the first second, I  was a proud owner of a new idevice.  It immediately was placed in an Otterbox, where is stayed between cleanings.  When in the car or at work, it sat in a dock.  When carrying it, it was religiously carried in my front pockets.  Then when I took it out to clean last week, I noted my phone was bent.  Everything works fine.  Except for the contour of my leg impressed into the phone.  It is immaculate.
After a few minutes of searching the web, I was overcome by the numbers of blog posts, discussion board posts, and even youtube videos chronicling the woes of once happy iPhone 5 owners who are distraught about the conditions of their 200 to 400 dollar relatively new phones which are bent.  After visiting the apple store and being shunned by the manager, I was beginning to get the feeling that this was not the same apple company that would stand behind their product as they did in the past.  Apple's official response is that they do not cover physical damage resulting from abuse to the phone.  They do not consider their flubbed soft phone as a manufacturer's defect.  I was offered to repair my phone for 229 dollars.  It's not that I don't have the money.  I refuse to pay that on principle.  Again, shame on you apple!
After speaking with management in their technical support department, I was offered a 50 dollar credit to use at the apple store on a new product.  I was essentially told they apologized for my inconvenience, but there is nothing they can do.  And oh by the way, you can't use the certificate towards the repair.
So at they point, I have lost all faith in Apple.  I have seen the gap between Apple and Android rapidly closing.  The apple ecosystem it seems has simply grown too large.  They have forgotten the roots laid by Steve Jobs in which the bottom line was user experience, not profit.  The adage, if you build it, they will come was what made you the juggernaut you have become.
My stable of Apple products is getting old.  It is time to replace my original iPad and the seven year old iMac in the office isn't too far behind.  Unfortunately, the sour Apple which I have recently eaten has me looking towards Google and its products.  Their cloud based products are getting pretty cool and my 1000 plus employee company has just made that jump also.  Migration is making more and more sense.  It is no wonder your stock price has gone down around 400 dollars a share and your earnings remain flat.
I am putting this out there in the hopes it is actually read and heard.  Leaving you, Apple, it one of the hardest breakups of my life.  I hope you change, I do!  I would still take you back if you got back on track, only I am skeptical that you won't be able to see past the arrogance you have developed now that you are too big for your britches.

  • Any way to make the iPhone sort contacts by nicknames or something close?

    Hi
As a happy iPhone user, there are a few things that I'd be glad to see some changes on.
One of these is more options regarding the contacts. Say, I like just the first name or the nickname of my friends and family show up when I call or text, but at the same time have the person's full name stored. What I wanna do is I want to be able to add my parents full name, and then just "Mom" and "Dad" under nickname or whatever, and make the iPhone sort and show them by that. Currently it doesn't look like the phone will let me.
So, is there any app or whatever that could workaround this problem, or do you think Apple would implement this in a future update?
    Thanks

  • How do i remove photo albums from Iphone that appear when syncing which I cannot prevent

Iphone 4.  just synced with laptop and to my horror now have every photo from laptop in albums on my phone which i cannot remove.  Have gone back into sync mode and it wont let me access the albums on phone to delete.  Such ridiculous situation not to be able to delete by choice on phone.  Sync only repeats the process.  Not a happy iphone user.  Can anyone help and suggest a simple way to remove the albums.  Also what to do when syncing to avoid happening again. When syncing,  I dont seem to be able to access my iphone or chose what sync processes i want as the sync only happens as one process including the photos.  Is this a fault??  Cannot believe Apple would make this such a difficult process.  Help appreciated.

Thanks but it wont let me choose and once the albums on iphone it wont let me remove..... any more thoughts??

  • IPhone 4 Won't Turn on =[ broken sleep button too

    Hey guys!
well heres my question/problem. Yesterday I noticed my battery was running low and it gave me the 20% battery warning but i wasnt around a charger so i just put it back into my pocket. after a few minutes i noticed that my phone wouldnt turn on so i assumed that the battery just died, so i went home and charged it over night but still no signs of life the next morning.. I cant do a hard reset because my sleep/wake button is broken =\
    ive tried:
    wall charging
    connecting it to a macbook
ive even tried pushing down super hard on the sleep button but all i end up with is nothing on the screen and a really red thumb.
so..any suggestions guys? I also kind of found it funny that my iphone decided to die the day before you could preorder the iphone 5 lol its like apple commands older iphones to die so we buy the new ones spot on.. but my contract isnt up until december so you can understand my dilema =[
any help would be great guys! happy iphone 5 preorder day btw [=

The same thing happened to my phone and the sleep button is broken. What did you to do to fix it?

  • 2nd replacement iPhone 4S and battery is even worse!!!

So this is the second replacement iPhone 4S I received from an apple genius.
The battery life is even worse on this one. Down 1% every 2-5 minutes?! Fully charged at 109% and during usage, it went down to 90% in 45 minutes. All of the settings that have been recommended to turn off are off and still nothing.
Here's a list of all the settings that are off
    Ping
All the location advanced settings like setting time zone
    Automatic time change
    3G/data
    Most notifications
    Etc etc
Even after doing a DFU mode restore without any back up and no syncing any apps, music, etc, still the same
You know how annoying it is to be using your phone and you constantly see your battery percentage going down every 2 minutes?!
The genius that "helped" me yesterday was useless and rude.
Honestly, if it's a software problems, then why is it only iPhone 4s out of everybody in my family? That's 4 other people with the iPhone 4S and 2 people with the iPhone 4, all on 5.0.1 yet I'm the only one with the battery issues?
Yes it is weird that both replacement iPhones that I received has horrible battery life but I don't get how I'm the only one in the family that has this problem.
I'm so annoyed and i hate the "genius" that helped me yesterday.

sounds like it could be a software issue
i understand from all your saying regarding everything  is off, brightness is down, vibrate is off,3g is off, location off,no emails set up,time change,wi-fi,,etc etc
ok ,how long did you charge up your iphone for initally for ?
let the battery die ,leave it for a few hours ,(use another mobile if you need a mobile)
recharge the iphone, when you get sum power, unplug ,check for updates,do a reset, then reconnect to charge it,when fully charged, keep all your settings off.use as per usual .
see how your battery copes then,
again do same thing with letting battery die out before recharging.
if problem continues then i would take it back to the store
    good luck

  • IPhone Application Crashing

Hi all...I'm a very happy iPhone user, but have been having a problem almost since day one (got it on June 29), and it's now becoming extremely bothersome. Per my research on these forums, I see that a number of users are having a similar problem when using Safari, it tends to "crash" (by crash I mean Safari will just close and take you back to the home screen), especially when typing a long post on a message board or something complicated. I am also having the same problem with Mail, where when I type e-mails, especially long ones, the Mail application "crashes" and I lose all the work I had done. Sometimes the application closes as I hit send, and I never even know if my e-mail sends (99% on the time it doesn't send).
I have tried resetting the phone, but really to no help. Is this a common problem, or am I having it worse and might need to schedule a trip to the Apple store? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply! I have about 130mb free on the phone. Have tried clearing the cache and history, and while it seems like that made the problem go away temporarily, it's still there. My biggest issue is that the problem is not consistent; sometimes I have the issue, sometimes I don't. I'm not sure what to do if I need to take it into the Apple Store and I can't recreate the problem, what would they be able to do to help?

  • Iphone 5 is bent

Just noticed that my iphone 5 is bent.  I keep my case on it and i have never dropped it or anything and nothing is wrong with my phone case.  There is a mark on the phone near the volume buttons.  I have no idea how it happened.  Took it to the Apple Store and they guy basically told me it was something I did and it would cost me $220 to fix it.  I have only had the phone for 2 months and now I have to pay almost as much as the phone cost to get it fixed.  That just doesn't seem right.  Has anyone else had this problem?

  • Getting notes out of the iPhone

I take a LOT of notes with my iphone. I can't figure out how to sync them with my mac to get them out.
Does anyone know how to do this?
MACBOOK PRO   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   HAPPY iPHONE OWNER

I have used Palm Pilot/Treo devices since forever, but want to switch to an iPhone for obvious reasons. What holds me back is the iPhone's current inability to create memos or notes for my own use. For example, the number to the gate on my storage shed; the directions to a store in another state that I seldom visit, but do whenever I'm there; the confirmation number of a hotel room I just rented, etc. With encryption, I can put bank accounts, pin numbers and other serious info on the device safely, but at my fingertips only. Without the ability to do this on an iPhone, I just have to wait until someone figures out how to do it, and sync with my home computers. I don't think I'm alone.

  • ITunes (nor IPhoto) sees  my 1st gen IPhone

I suppose it is traffic issues but...
When I plugged my I phone into my PowerBook (running Tiger 10.4.11) neither IPhoto nor ITunes detected it. I'm running ITunes 8.2
    I followed the troubleshooting protocols:
    changed UBS ports
    restarted both IPhone and Mac
    Still nothing.
Could this be volume, ITune issues or IPhone 3.0 problems? Anyone know if 2nd generation IPhones having this problem or is it only with 1st generation.
I'm suppose to pick up my new 3GS on Friday (preordered from Apple Store). Do you think I'm going to have problems sync my stuff with it? I'm especially concerned because I cannot backup anything at this point.
    Thanks! And happying IPhoning!

Just killed mine, Same error 11222, Wish I had checked your message before hitting Restore. Guess new iTunes store no longer has access to connection software for Original iPhone.

  • IPhone 6Plus sitting at Fedex! Go off of your email, not online.

When I pre-order my phone I got a confirmation email with a "delivery date" of 9/19.
I received and email FROM VERIZON on Sat. (9/13) that my order had been shipped. Just like with previous release the orders are going out, but will wait to be delivered on the release date.

They cannot deliver a pre-order before the launch date and it is sitting there because they have a few hundred thousand of these to go out, so they are working it as they can.  Be happy you have your tracking information, understand you will not get your phone later than the launch day and you will be the same as 4 million other happy iPhone 6 owners.
    Cheers

  • Camera stuck on iPhone 3GS with 4. firmware

I have installed the 4.2 firmware some time ago and it worked out fine. Till yesterday. The camera froze on the shutter, nothing resolved the issue. Total restore, switching off and on, ....I tried everything.
I also read that the happy iPhone 4 owners are having the same issue...
Does this mean that the camera is a waste on the iPhone from now on?
Pretty disappointed that Apple didn't resolve this issue rapidly since it seems that the 4 owners ran into this problem pretty soon after getting the phone.
I'll go to the Apple store later today and see what they have to offer ;-(

No such problem with my iPhone 4 with 4.2 or 4.3, and I certainly haven't seen this problem reported here in any large numbers. If this were a problem with 4.2, then every iPhone 4 owner that installed 4.2 on their iPhone would have the same problem, which is not the case.
The iPhone includes a one year warranty. The iPhone 4 was released last summer in the U.S. so there is no way your iPhone's standard one year warranty has expired so there should be no charge for an exchange under warranty.
If there is a hardware problem with your iPhone that cannot be resolved by any other means besides an exchange under warranty, and you haven't done anything with your iPhone that voids the warranty such as any accidental damage including moisture damage, why wouldn't the Apple store exchange your iPhone under warranty at no charge? Are you saying you refused an exchange under warranty? An exchange under warranty remains under the same warranty as the original purchase.

  • Iphone 6 not sending imessage from phone number

I got my iPhone 6 yesterday and this morning whenever I try to use iMessage it gets sent from my icloud address rather than my phone number. I went into settings > messages and tried turning imessage on and off, which did not work. I also tried just selecting my phone number instead of the email addresses listed and the messages do not send. Signing in and out of my apple account doesn't solve any issues either. Using imessage on my macbook uses just my icloud, too. Any tips?

SO....The same issue arose AGAIN!!! So I did the HARD RESET, and I realized..... to avoid this from ever happening in the future....
This is the only thing that fixed it I was so stumped! Thank you, I had previously tried just a standard restart , also signing in and out of imessage and apple id several times.... but the hard power down is the only thing that fixed the problem. HighFive
AFTER HARD RESET (PRESSIN THE TOP AND LOWER BUTTONS AS SAME TIME)
    POWER ON
AND APPLE IMESSAGE WINDOW WILL POP UP AND ASK IF YOU WANT TO USE YOUR EMAIL WITH YOUR IMESSAGE, IT WILL ASK FOR YOUR APPLE ID.....
SELECT CANCEL!!! DO NOT PUT YOUR PASSWORD IN BECAUSE IT WILL THEN SET YOU UP FOR EMAIL TO BE USED FOR YOUR IMESSAGE, IF YOU CANCEL THAT WINDOW, IT WILL ONLY USE YOUR PHONE NUMBER, AND WHEN YOU ARE NOT AVAIL FOR IMESSAGE IT WILL SEND THE MSG VIA TEXT INSTEAD OF IMSG OR EMAIL...THIS IS THE BEST SOLUTION AND SINCE I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM GETTING OR RECIEVING IMESSAGE
    Good Luck! Happy iPhoning
