Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!

How will you be spending your Thanksgiving Day?  Will you have company at home, or will you be travelling to see your families?
I have a quiet dinner here at home for my college-age son and myself.  We start out the day getting up early to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade -- an OLD family tradition from when I was but a young lass   Then I start dinner and we eat mid-afternoon and "sleep it off".  LOL!!
Of course, my son will be in front of the tv watching any football games on the rest of the day/weekend while I get the privilege of cleaning up the kitchen.

I am going one day at a time. So other than family coming over, not sure what will happen. I like to deep fry in peanut oil. Keep close tabs on the the temperature of the oil, and turkey to make sure it is completely thawed. I have done it for a long time, and have always been safe. Deep fried 4 at work one Christmas for our party, and a few after that, but the fire people put a stop to it after they found out where I was cooking them. Good smell in the building and on PA. Avenue. With the exhaust fan on you could almost smell it at the White House.
This year I will probably do it the traditional way in the oven, even if it takes longer than 40 minutes.

And a Happy Thanksgiving from me, too, including all the "veggies" out there who have to settle for candied yams and green bean casseroles :)

  • Happy New Year, everyone !

You have all been so helpful to me in this Forum. You have taught me things when you probably didn't know you were doing it and at opportune moments you have made me laugh. And that's something to be treasured.
This year I began collecting comments and witticisms that you have posted that I found particularly apropos, witty, ironic, humorous, etc. etc. - and here are a few of my favorites. They made me pause and laugh at the very moments I needed a good laugh. To the authors - I'm sure you will recognize your own , and thank you very much !
"Render files are sneaky little, fast moving, ferret like creatures of sharp intelligence and low morals. I chase them but never seem to catch them ... "
"Wow, and I thought my Fisher Price movie cam, you know, the one that records video on audio cassettes, was awesome ... maybe I should upgrade my gear, eh? ..."
"He once accused me of saving for a rainy day and then being too tight to open my umbrella, which I thought a bit rich coming from him."
And one of my very favorites of all, a response to someone who wanted to know what button to toggle in Final Cut Express to make his videos 'more cinematic' -
"You should "toggle" the "Film school" plugin. You know, the one that takes four years to render, and adds a veneer of style and substance to your timeline. You can find this plug in at many universities around the country. Some are more expensive than others, but they basically all have the same impact on your movie. Good luck."
    Happy New Year, everyone !

I'm glad to see that some of the less technologically helpful comments are also noticed!
Of course you do realise that this thread is probably breaking the strict "Terms of Use" of this forum as it does not relate to a current FCE problem!
Happy New Year - at least to those who use the Gregorian Calendar.

  • Happy Thanksgiving (US)

Just wanted to extend a Happy Thanksgiving to all forum members in the US!
Enjoy famlies and friends, and if you must, travel safely.

Hmm... is that cow a member of the "Occupy the Farm" movement?
We were going to Terrie's nephew's for Thanksgiving, but since we are both at about 80% with colds (some days even below 80%) we're staying home... still going to have a Turkey, so I can make soup
Butterball (or similar) Turkey for better stock
Cook turkey upside down in a baker bag
    - This keeps the white meat tender
    - Cook according to baker bag instructions
All broth into the stew pot (careful opening bag)
Pacifica French Onion Soup in box instead of water
Remove meat for serving (leave some on bones)
Everything except the “gobble” into the stew pot
Boil 2-4 hours so the meat falls off the bones
Put in the ‘fridge over night
Skim the fat off the top the next day
Heat so it is liquid again, then de-bone
Add spices to taste (a bit of Italian & “whatever”)
Costco Sun Dried Tomato (SDT) (see Note 1)
Add 1-2 cups of Harvest Medley rice (Costco)
    - or your choice of wild or regular rice
Boil for about one-half hour to partly cook the rice
Add chopped carrots and cook about one-half hour
Add soft vegetables (celery, onion) for one-half hour
Depending on turkey size should be about 2 gallons
    (1) SDT adds rich flavor AND the olive oil packing
So don’t use if you don’t want much oil flavor

  • HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!

    Something about Thanksgiving:
'TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING, BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS, I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.
THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED - THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE. BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.
TOSSING AND TURNING IN ANTICIPATION, THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.
SO I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR.AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.
I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,'TILL ALL OF A SUDDEN I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.
I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING FLOATING INTO THE SKY WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES HAPPY EATING TO ALL, PASS THE CRANBERRIES PLEASE.
MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY, MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP; MAY YOUR POTATOES AND GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS, MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE -
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!

To tell you the truth not only do I dearly love my imac but I am really impressed with all of the help found here on these pages. I have never found anything quite like this in the MSWindows world. Thanks again everyone!
One of my favorite things about this forum is that I (we) aren't restricted by physical boundaries. Mainly very large bodies of water. I consider a lot of you to be e-friends which I wouldn't have if there wasn't an internet/discussion forum. International e-friendships are cool.
So thanks also to apple for hosting these forums and to Al Gore for inventing the internet.

  • Preview opens blank jpg over vnc

Hello and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
I am using VNC to access my iMac from a Windows 7 machine.  When I open a .jpg in Preview, remotely, I get a blank Preview window (except for the file name at the top and the various icons, i.e., "Previous," "Next," etc.).  This happens when the iMac's display is showing the Login Window.  Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and if there is a fix for it?
This happens both with RealVNC Server in User Mode and Vine Server, and with various clients on the PC.  When you open the file on the iMac itself, the image displays correctly.  And, when the iMac display is showing my user screen as it displays remotely, the jpeg is rendered correctly; it is when the iMac is showing the Login Window that the problem occurs.
On the iMac, I am running Mac OS X v10.6.8.
I tried deleting com.apple.Preview.plist, but it didn't seem to solve the problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

p.s.  If you go back to the Mac and re-sign-in, the desktop there shows a blank Preview window.
This does not happen with Xee, Seashore, Safari, or Firefox.  It also happens with a .png file I tried.

  • Bank Holiday; for Karl and everyone..

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Here in the UK it's a holiday today ..though the weather's a bit dismal.
And so, to cheer everyone up - and the thing to do on a dismal holiday is to go to the pictures, of course! - is Chuck Workman's seven-and-a-half minute compilation of about four-and-a-half-hundred (mainly American) movies.
(..Louis le Prince's English films, French, German, Russian, African, Chinese and Japanese, Asian, Canadian, Egyptian and Israeli, Iranian and Iraqi films aren't here ..and they do make films!.. but these few hundred, compiled in 1986, should bring a happy tear to everyone's eye..)

Thanks for sharing the compilation, David. it brought back wonderful memories.
Viewing it reminded me of a comment by Academy Award-winning German filmmaker Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck ("The Lives of Others"). In a recent interview with Charlie Rose, he talked about deciding early on to make films — before he knew anything about film-making — for he somehow recognized film communicates better than any other medium.
Its powerful effect is demonstrated by the compilation, even seen as tiny clips.

    TH,
No problem on questions! I keep hoping it is something that SIMPLE!!
I just checked and all setting are for maximum CPU whether AC or DC.
On AC, WInfo64 shows my CPU multipliers anywhere from 8x to 35x.
On DC, WInfo64 shows my CPU mutipliers anywhere from 8x to 10x (i.e. NETBOOK)!
Yep! Aggieland is a friendly place to live! I came here in 1981 to go Texas A&M, fell in love, got married, got a couple of Computer Science degrees, had a WONDERFUL DAUGHTER (now an Aggie), and NEVER LEFT !!
