Just wanted to extend a Happy Thanksgiving to all forum members in the US!

Hmm... is that cow a member of the "Occupy the Farm" movement?
We were going to Terrie's nephew's for Thanksgiving, but since we are both at about 80% with colds (some days even below 80%) we're staying home... still going to have a Turkey, so I can make soup
Butterball (or similar) Turkey for better stock
Cook turkey upside down in a baker bag
- This keeps the white meat tender
- Cook according to baker bag instructions
All broth into the stew pot (careful opening bag)
Pacifica French Onion Soup in box instead of water
Remove meat for serving (leave some on bones)
Everything except the “gobble” into the stew pot
Boil 2-4 hours so the meat falls off the bones
Put in the ‘fridge over night
Skim the fat off the top the next day
Heat so it is liquid again, then de-bone
Add spices to taste (a bit of Italian & “whatever”)
Costco Sun Dried Tomato (SDT) (see Note 1)
Add 1-2 cups of Harvest Medley rice (Costco)
- or your choice of wild or regular rice
Boil for about one-half hour to partly cook the rice
Add chopped carrots and cook about one-half hour
Add soft vegetables (celery, onion) for one-half hour
Depending on turkey size should be about 2 gallons
(1) SDT adds rich flavor AND the olive oil packing
So don’t use if you don’t want much oil flavor

How will you be spending your Thanksgiving Day? Will you have company at home, or will you be travelling to see your families?
I have a quiet dinner here at home for my college-age son and myself. We start out the day getting up early to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade -- an OLD family tradition from when I was but a young lass Then I start dinner and we eat mid-afternoon and "sleep it off". LOL!!
Of course, my son will be in front of the tv watching any football games on the rest of the day/weekend while I get the privilege of cleaning up the kitchen.

I am going one day at a time. So other than family coming over, not sure what will happen. I like to deep fry in peanut oil. Keep close tabs on the the temperature of the oil, and turkey to make sure it is completely thawed. I have done it for a long time, and have always been safe. Deep fried 4 at work one Christmas for our party, and a few after that, but the fire people put a stop to it after they found out where I was cooking them. Good smell in the building and on PA. Avenue. With the exhaust fan on you could almost smell it at the White House.
This year I will probably do it the traditional way in the oven, even if it takes longer than 40 minutes.

i must say that the WET610N has done wonders for my gaming console! i've also used it on my desktop to get it to go wireless and did not have any problems. my devices are located at different levels of the house so that should say something about the range that it covers. my main router is a Linksys to begin with so that may be a plus. i hear interoperability is better when the devices are of the same manufacturer. more importantly, i made sure my main network was configured properly. i have channel width set to standard/ 20mhz with channel set to 9. for security, i have wpa2/ aes for a faster and more secure connection. i am also running the latest firmware on both my router and the bridge to address minor bugs, if any.
i guess it all boils down to optimizing your wireless network settings to lessen, if not eliminate, wireless interference as it will cause dropouts. you may want to try the settings i mentioned above and do get that firmware upgrade for your devices. good luck!

Automator Actions for iTunes U ... Happy Monday Everyone!

I was inspired by Apple's Steve Hayman (the other, other Steve) to create a set of Automator actions for iTunes U. The first three are done and I have posted them:

The three actions are:
Upload Items to iTunes U -- takes a set of files from a previous action, uploads the content to iTunes U, given a target URL in which to place the content ("Copy iTunes URL" in iTunes and paste in to say where you want stuff to go).
Get iTunes U Daily Report Logs -- yes, now you can script logs!
Get iTunes U XML -- returns site XML, minimally, mostly, and maximally ... or just the XML from a handle. Send the results to a file, explore it at your leisure ... or modify the results to change your site.
More to come (promises, promises) ... but I wanted to get this out there for those who might find this useful. Oh yeah, I did include the briefest of brief manuals plus some sample workflows to give you an idea of how to use the actions.

Photo Recovery problem

Hi, had all my photos sync'd to my iPhone but Dell system crashed. Bought an iMac and cannot get the photos off the iPhone into iPhoto.
There pictures are in Photo Library and in folders within Photo Albums but the sync wants to erase all my photos on the iPhone first.
Don't want to lose these precious photos.
Do I just have to send them all to my web gallery one at a time?
Any help at this point is greatly appreciated.

You must have had firmware on there if it worked, but "reload firmware" actually erases the firmware. It's a badly named function.
Unfortunately though you've tried all you can as a user. The player sounds faulty and you ought to contact Creative support for a replacement.

Okay, so Im having an issue with my mac and itunes

So I went into Apple and they had to reboot my computer because of my disc drive not working, well now I can't get my itunes library back on my computer, even though homesharing and my account info is in place. Why wont it put my library back on my computer? Am i missing something?

it could be possible that the resolution is not supported by the extenal monitor, r you might have to change the the resoluton manually on the external monitor

Why can't I use mover's coupon on Macbook?

Happy thanksgiving everyone, but my experience at Best Buy today was so disappointed.
I recently moved to new home and received a mover's coupon for Best Buy. I tried to buy a Macbook Air 13.3 at 8251 Gateway Overlook Dr, Elkridge, MD 21075. At checkout, I showed the associate the coupon and I was told I could not use it. He said Apple Macbooks are "Unlateral Minimum Resale Price (UMRP) products". I don't even know what UMRP means, but I thought ok, it's thanksgiving, there is no need to give anybody a hard time. Then I paid the full price for it which is 899.99. Then I went back and told a friend about the purchase. He was shocked I paid so much for it. He told me he WAS able to use the mover's coupon as well as student discounts on the exact same Macbook, and he paid $170 dollars less than I did. I went back to the store and talked to the customer service, I even showed them my friend's receipt. But the associates in the store kept telling me the UMRP non-sense. There is nowhere on the coupon saying Macbooks are excluded. After 30 mins talk, I still could not get the discount. And I felt so disappointed about Best Buy, especially at Thanksgiving eve.
I did some research online, and I found this post in this forum : http://forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Best-Buy-Store-Purchase/Why-can-t-I-use-a-Movers-Coupon-on-a-MacBook/td.... Apparently, somebody else had the same problem and it was solved. Can any moderators here give me some help? At least give me an explaination that makes sense (Please, no more UMRP non-sense).

No pun intended, but it’s definitely disappointing to hear that you were unable to utilize the mover’s coupon on the MacBook Air you purchased. Based on what you are stating the store said, they may have been misinterpreting what qualified under the terms and conditions of the coupon. In this situation, I believe that the coupon should have been applied, but I would need to do some more research. If you could send me a private message with your full name as well as the Customer Service Pin from your purchase, I would be happy to look into this further.
You can generally find the Customer Service Pin near the middle of the receipt, where it should say “Your Customer Service Pin is” and underneath it will be four sets of numbers. You can send me a private message by logging into the forum and clicking on the button across from my name on this post.

Playback is freezing

yesterday i started having a problem with the video i captured freezing when i would play it back. i was unsure of what the cause of the problem is. i am using an external hard drive, and i have been having a TON of problems with that. this morning, i re-captured the video that was giving me said problems, and things were moving along rather well. then, it happened again. i was wondering if this has happened to anyone before, and if so, what you did to fix the problem.

What is the computer exactly? What's the drive? How is it formatted? How is it connected to the computer? What else is connected?

Ipod touch not working after update

I just attempted to install the latest iPod touch software update via itunes. It downloaded and started installing and everything seemed normal. Then I got a weird error that said something along the lines of "Could not update ipod. Error 9" Now the ipod won't turn on at all, won't reset, and itunes doesn't recognize it. When I plug it into my pc (where it is synced), I get a windows bubble that pops up saying the device isn't recognized. When I plug it into my mac, nothing happens at all.
Any suggestions?

Hey everyone. I had this same issue (1st Gen iTouch crashed in the middle of the update with an error, then perpetually showed the USB cable picture and wasn't recognized by my PC).
I was flying West for Thanksgiving, and the prospect of not having my music was so terrifying that out of complete desperation, I borrowed my roommate's Mac to see if I could somehow magically finish the update there. For whatever reason, it worked!
I don't know if it was the fact that it was a Mac, an older version of iTunes, or what, but I was able to do a restore after downloading the new firmware on his computer (I think it was an old Powerbook G4), though I lost all my data. Still, it works now, and I was (thank God) able to listen to it on the plane trip after re-adding my music.
So I wish I could give more details, but at the very least, THERE IS HOPE! Maybe someone more daring and less busy than I can narrow down the variables, otherwise I'll see if I can figure more out when I get back home this weekend. However, I sincerely hope Apple takes responsibility and figures it out themselves before then. Given how serious losing your ability to listen to portable music is for most of us, I really can't believe that they haven't even deigned to address this issue on their own boards.
