Hard cover or screen protector

To protect the phone (with touch screen), do you prefer to use a hard cover or a screen protector?
Which one is better?
And what is the best way to apply a screen protector?

Both together would of course be the best way to protect your device, but I often stick with just the cover as I think the screenprotector takes away some of the smoothness using a capacitive screen - but that's my opinion.
There are tons of different screenprotectors out there, some thick, some thin and some thinner and rubber like which you apply with some gel which comes with it - e. g. invisible shield (I would only use that on a capacitive screen).
The best way to apply the screen protector depends on what protector you buy. I have used the invisible shield on two iphones and some other phones and found it working very well. If you buy it it comes with a description on how to do it.
But common rules for applying a protector is:
Make sure the screen is clean and dry. Use a dry micfrofibre cloth to wipe it off. Then apply it starting from one edge and roll it down while you use a credit card to even it out and remove bubles.
For the invisible shield alike protectors, there will be bubbles anyway at first, but they will disappear in 12 hours if applied correct. The package also says that.
I don't know what type of phone you have, but If you want to protect it the best way buy a silicon case which covers above the screen around the edges. If it falls down with the screen towards the ground, chances is that it will cover the hit instead of it falling right on the screen. Silicon absorbs the hit pretty well too.
Good luck!

  • Is there a cover or case for ipad 1 that includes a screen protector

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a case that includes a screen cover attached to it? I've got a gel cover on the back but I have a problem with the screen protectors that adhere to the screen as I can never get rid of the air bubbles no matter how hard I try. If there isn't a case then can someone tell me how to the screen protector on without the bubbles?

    Why buy separate instead?

  • About Lot 3x Film Cover LCD Clear Screen Protector for iPad Mini

I'm getting Lot 3x Film Cover LCD Clear Screen Protector for iPad Mini on eBay.com in the Mail tomorrow but i have 1 question if I Bring My Apple iPad Mini 16GB WiFi Only Tablet to The Apple Store tomorrow will they put on the Lot Film Cover LCD Clear Screen Protector on My Apple iPad Mini if i asked them to??? cause I Don't know how to do it, My House is Very Dusty yes even if i try to do it myself yeah i have to many Electronics in my house yes I Need Help, I Do have an Apple iPhone 5 64GB From Verizon Wireless should i try going there to if they can't help me at The Apple Store???
Sorry i'm being very Annoying to bother anyone here, i know you don't like it?

You know, it's ok to ask! If I was you, I'd try asking them at the Apple store or, if you got the iPad at the Verizon store, go there. It won't hurt to ask - just tell them you don't know how to do it and don't want to mess it up. It's a little difficult to do it right - I got that kind of thing for my Macbook Pro for the bottom where your hand rests and had a hard time putting it on. So, go ahead and ask. If they're too busy, read the instructions a couple of times and wait until you have plenty of time and are relaxed and try it yourself.
I know you can do it if necessary!

  • My new iPod touch is getting really warm while I use it. Is it normal? I mean, I have silicone cover, maybe it's the reason for iPod being so HOT?... How do you think, is it too important to have a cover on the iPod? How about screen protector? :S

  • IPad 2 smart cover, mine is falling to bits and has stained my screen protector. Anyone else had the same problem?

iPad 2 smart cover. Mine is falling apart and has marked my screen protector with black lines. Anyone else experienced this?

Mine has worked fine.  What model do you have, the leather or the other?  I've read of others using screen protectors like Zagg absorbing some of the dye.  Of course considering the cost they are to produce ($12 is what I read for the leather) it doesn't surprise me some of the dye is coming out.  I have wiped my black leather down with high grade leather cleaner / oil and you can clearly see it on the rag.

  • Why does my iphone phone by it self ?even though its password protected, switched off, and has a hard cover over the screen.

  • What is the 2nd sensor on the front, right next to the ear speaker for, and can I cover it up with a screen protector?

I received a package of screen protectors from Tech Armor today that were advertised to work for the iPhone 5, 5S and 5C.  They don't have a cutout for the second sensor on the front face that is to the left of the ear speaker.
What is that sensor for?  And can I cover it up with a screen guard without reducing the functionality/effectiveness of the hardware?
    Thanks,
    Pete.

That's the proximity sensor, senses when you have the phone close to your face, turns off the screen to save battery and prevent accidental input from face touching the screen.
It's ok to be covered by by a transparent screen protector. I have used screen protectors that cover up that sensor, no problem.

  • Iphone Screen Protector & Cover

I'm sorry if im posting in the wrong place im new to these forums and i have a huge question about Screen Protectors and covers...
The protector that my screen has is starting to come off from the bottom and im scared i might scratch my screen if i lose it all together so ived been looking into protectors that are being sold online and i found these two that people seem to recommend:
    http://www.bestskinsever.com/servlet/the-69/iPhone-Total-Body-Skin/Detail#itemad ded
which is only 10 bucks shipped but only covers the screen. OR
    http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/apple-iphone-cases-screen-protectors-covers- skins-shields.php
which is about 26 but covers the whole phone plus they have a pretty convincing video heh... any who im wondering if any of you own either of these and can recommend me one. Thanks again and let me just say this phone is by far the best phone i have ever owned but im sure im not the only one who thinks that

Ordered Zagg's Invisible shield when I ordered the phone, both arrived on the same day and that night I applied the front and back. The front was easy enough and looks great. That "orange peel" kinda look doesn't bother me at all and I rest assured knowing my screen is protected from the beginning.
The back shield took me a long time to apply, I had to re-apply several times 'cause I was not happy with how it was ending up. It was easy enough to peel back off and re-apply but I needed more solution. The box says you can just add water to the little spray bottle and be good to go. I did this and it worked fine.
Once finished, I left it alone to cure but in the end I was unhappy with the back shield. It didn't conform as much as I would have liked and I could feel it as i used the phone. I wasn't able to get it on there as perfect as I would have liked. It is a chore. In the end I took it off and it's been off for over two weeks and I have yet to have any scratches on the back of my phone. I am careful with it and whenever I do place it anywhere it's face-down, as the shield is on the screen and protects the phone if it slides, which is hard as it is since the tackiness of the material pretty much keeps it in place.
On a side note. There's a video of how someone left their Invisible Shielded phone on the roof of their car as they drove on the highway and it stayed in place due to the tackiness of the material. I thought this was silly until I absentmindedly did the same thing myself. I didn't get very far, but I did drive enough that any other phone would have slid right off. I didn't realize it was on my roof till I got a call, my bluetooth car hands-free kicked in, and I heard the phone vibrate....over my head.
In the end I would say the product is very highly recommended; you may have an easier time applying the back shield. I love the protection I get on the screen, and it is as good as "naked." No bulk at all. Also, if you're ever stupid enough to forget your phone was placed on the roof of your car as you fished for your keys...you haven't lost your investment.

  • Stylus hard to use with screen protector on iPad mini

I have put a screen protector on my iPad mini and now I have to press the stylus really hard.

I use a US$4.00 stylus on my screen protected iPad with no problem.
I think the tip of your stylus is too soft.
    Try tapping instead of pressing.

  • Is there a hard case with a screen protector

Trying to find a hard case with a integrated screen protector, not a separate film

I have a Lifeproof case on my iPhone 4. Last week I dropped it in the parking lot of my work.  The next day our employee found it. I apparently rolled over it with my Chevy 1/2 ton truck when I left that day.  It survived! (the phone that is) This case is waterproof.  You can take picutres and video underwater with it. I do receommend it, but buy in knowing that only the case is warranted.  If the phone does get damaged it will not be covered, only the case.

  • Could I use a power support screen protector to cover the back of my iPhone

I bought the ZAGG Invisible shield thinking it was the full body but realized it was only the front. Can I use a power support screen protector to cover the back of my iPhone 3G?

From my research, the ONLY way to get the back cover of the Zagg shield is to buy the complete package (front and back). The ONLY place I've seen this offered in online at zagg.com.
I'm only using the front Zagg shield and for the back, I'm using the Richardsolo.com Contour Flip. I've tried several other combinations and for my money, this is the way to go.

  • How do you put PDA screen protectors to cover your ipod nan?

Like how do i apply the pda protector? I havnt gotten the ipod nano yet im just thinking of how i could apply the screen protector.
Is the film sticky? what keeps it on?
if anyone could give me step by step instructions thatll be great.
    Thanks:)

It is a static connection ... all that you need to do is cut the film to the size of the nano and then very carefully place it on the nano. The instructions for the protectors work with then nano. There should be enough space on a single protector for both sides of the nano, but be careful to avoid the area on the protector where there is any printing.
You must be careful applying the protectors to avoid getting bubbles in it... it may take several attempts. If you cut the protector accurately then it ought to be possible to align the edge (I'd do the long edge) of the protector with the nano and then very carefully glide the protector over the nano and lightly press it down.
I applied a protector to my nano before doing anything else and have avoided any scratches.

  • Screen protector on an iPad with retina display?

What are your thoughts on using a screen protector on an iPad with retina display? Does this defeat the purpose of having a high quality display, or does the protection it affords despite the less sharp screen?

I like having the protection on my iPad. I use the Otterbox Defender Case that enclosed the device completely in a black hard shell cover and it has a built in screen protector. I remove the iPad from the case every other week in order to clean the iPad and the case and I use it for a few hours without the case so I can enjoy the beautiful retina display. But I do want the protection when all is said and done.
If you are a big photo editing person, or you watch a lot of movies and videos, the screen protector may spoil the experience for you. You have to make that assessment on your own.
Even with this particular built in screen protector, I can still see a big difference in the screen resolution compared to my iPad original that has a ZAGG Invisibke Shield on it.

  • A truly transparent iPhone 5 screen protector?

I got an iPhone 5 last week. First thing I did was buy a nice sleek, clear 'shell' case for it and also a screen protector. The case is great as it gives some protection, doesn't cover the controls, doesn't spoil the nice design of the device and makes it feel a bit more assured in your hand. All good ;-) Not so with the screen protector.
I bought a Belkin Anti-Smudge screen protector, which came as a pack of 2 for $14. I fitted it okay but when I unlocked the phone I was very disappointed with the display. The beautiful iPhone 5 screen was reduced to a grainy, much less clear display. Text also appeared more fuzzy and harder to read. Sort of Retina to rectum!! :-( It was really quite poor. On the other hand I would like some piece of mind that a screen protector can offer. So I'm wondering what the alternative option might be that a truly transparent? I seen lots online but I'm bought off buying until I hear about a particular product - After the Belkin thing it's a case of once bitten twice shy. 'Tru-Clear' my arse! Not impressed with that at all.

I think you're right, Peter. It's a toss up between screen protection & spoiling the lovely Retina display or taking a chance and seeing things as they should be. I've looked at a few friends and families phones, that have protectors on them, and the display is really degraded by them. I don't think I'll bother with a protector and I've bought an iPhone 5 'sock' to protect the phone when I travel. That will do me for now
