Hard Cover to Soft Cover

I changed my mind to go from hard cover to soft cover after I was all done. The format changed even though it's the same layout and a lot of material was lost. Can I go back and recover my previous work?

Do you have a backup?
You can try going back to the hard cover and see what happens
What was lost - generally changing only the cover type does not cause problems

Can I change from hard cover to soft cover after the iphoto book is desgned?

Yes,  Just go to the View all pages window and click on the Change Theme button.  There you will be able to switch size and type of cover.  HOWEVER, just to be on the safe side make a copy of the book beforehand by clicking on it and typing Command+D (duplicate).  Sometimes some of the text might be lost.  It's a possiblity but I've never had it happen.

  • Hard Cover To Soft Cover Order ?

    Hi
Is there a simple way to change my order (before I send it off) from a hard cover choice to a soft cover option ? I thought I had selected soft cover in the first place but I'm only getting a hard cover option when I click to buy book.
    Thanks for any help !
    Mike

That warning comes up before you tell it what to change to - if you change to a theme with substantially different text layouts you might lose something but just changing from hard cover to soft cover should not - but anything can happen - that is why a current backup is critical to avoid losing computer data including photos - I would update my current backup just before making the change just in case
But you should not lose anything

When I was ready to place the order for my iPhoto book, I realized that it was for a soft cover book and I wanted hard cover.  How can I change this without losing my prepared book?

Duplicate your book and try to change the theme in the copy.  Chnaging the theme may change the layout  of your text fileds. That is why you need the copy to be able to compare the pages before and after.
Ctrl-click the book in the Source list and select "Duplicate".
Click the "Change Theme" button in the upper right corner of the Book pane, make sure, you have the same theme selected and the same size. Click Hardcover.

  • Set up book in hard cover instead of soft cover.

I just finished creating two photo books, one with 100 pages and the other with 90. I proceeded to order when I was asked to choose the color of the cover. It was then I noticed that I was ordering a hard cover book which I don't want. At this point, there was no way to indicate I wanted soft cover. Is there any way I can duplicate my efforts into a soft cover edition? Or, is it as I fear, that I had to choose soft cover BEFORE I began preparing the book?

    Judy:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I think you can. Select the soft cover book in the Source pane and type Command-D. That will give you a duplicate copy to try switching from soft to hard cover, same theme. Even though it warns you that text may be lost I've switched themes before without losing text. Worth a try.

  • How to Convert a Hard Cover Book already created to a soft cover book

We created a hard cover book, not realizing we needed to select hard cover vs. soft book before creating. When we went to buy the book we realized there are no options at the shopping card to make it a soft book. How can we make this a soft book without having to recreate the whole book. (It took 2 days and is 71 pages...that's a lot of "do-over..." Thanks.

just for safety duplicate the book first then select it and go to themes and select the softcover this time - it will warn about possible text loss which usually does not happen but since you have a copy you are fine even if there is an issue

  • My 7x7 book will only upload as a hard cover and not a soft cover.

I spent this afternoon putting together a simple 68-page 7x7 book in the book module today.  My intention was to upload it as a soft cover book.  I tried to do that several times this evening, but after LR had rendered the pages and uploaded them I would get a error related to "BookCover" size.
A little research suggested bugs in the system did not like two-page photo spreads, but I was not using any two-page spreads.  Still, I chose a couple of different cover layouts and tried to upload each one.  Unfortunately, I got the same error.
So I put everything back the way I had intended it to be to begin with and decided to see if it would upload as a hard cover.  Lo and behold, it did!
But I don't want this book as a hardcover.  It's a book of Instagram shots and I was specifically going for a more informal look.
Is there something obvious I am missing here?  I've also been working on a larger book (with two-page photo spreads) and I'm a bit worried that I'm going to get an error when it comes to uploading that as well.
    Thanks,
    Shannon

So a fault in the Hardware Raid controller could make it not read properly? I am planning on having a good backup set up after this!
As for the screenshot, the original was not set up with the SoftRaid. When I got the computer back I installed that to see if that may pick it up and make it at least readable to save the data on it. The two in question are the highlighted 4TB drives, which befor also read as one drive as it was set up in the OWC enclosure as a hardware raid.

  • HT1040 I must not have chosen a hard back book when I started my project of creating a photo book. When I go to buy the book it only allows a small soft cover book. How would one go about changing it to a hard back book?

I must not have chosen a hard back book when I started my project of creating a photo book. when I go to buy the book it only allows me to buy the small soft cover book. How would one go about to chage the settings?

    What version of iPhoto?
THe basic answer to duplicate the book as things may change when you change size, select themes again and pic the cover and  size you want -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

  • IPhoto - book question.  Can I change from soft cover to hard once the book is done?

Can I change a book from soft cover to hard cover once the book is done?

Select your book in the Source List, ctrl-click or right-click it, and use the command "Duplicate" from the contextual menu.

  • Can I change a hard cover book to soft cover?

I've spent hours creating a photobook on iphoto and now that I'm ready to buy, I wish it were soft cover.  Can I change it at the last minute?  I can't figure out how to.

Yes, it's relatively easy to do. First click on the book and type Command+D to duplicate the book. then open the copy and click on the Theme button. In the theme menu you can switch to a soft cover version. You'll get a warning that you could lose some text. That's why it's wise to make a duplicate so you can go back to the original version to cut and past the text if needed. I've been able to switch covers and not lose any text but I just use the default fonts that the theme provides.

  • Purchasing Soft Cover Books with iphoto "08

I have created a photo album on iphoto "08 and purchased a hard cover book. I would like to order duplicate copy of the book only with a soft cover. Is this possible?

click on the book in the source pane on the left and click on the themes icon - select the new size/cover/etc and you have it -- you may want to duplicate the book prior to making a format change since sometimes things change with a new format - to duplicate a book right click on the book in the source pane on the left and choose duplicate

  • I complete and ordered a hardcover photo book.  Now, I would like to order the same photo book as a soft cover or wire bound.  IPhoto does not seem to have directions for this process.

I completed and ordered a hardcover photo book,  Now I would like to order the same book but with a soft cover or wire bound cover.  IPhoto doesn't seem to have a feature which just lets me change the completed book to another type of cover.

see my answer to your previous duplicate post
duplicate the book in case of issues and use the change \theme button - select the same theme and the new format - preview (in case anything has changed) and order

  • Hard Parse or Soft Parse ?

    Hi Experts,
If we execute a SELECT statement in SQL*PLUS by passing the value using ampersand operator, whether hard parsing will occur or soft parsing ?
    SQL> select last_name from employees where department_id = &dept_no;
    Enter value for dept_no: 100
    old   1: select last_name from employees where department_id = &dept_no
    new   1: select last_name from employees where department_id = 100
    SQL> select last_name from employees where department_id = &dept_no;
    Enter value for dept_no: 110
    old   1: select last_name from employees where department_id = &dept_no
    new   1: select last_name from employees where department_id = 110
When I am executing V$SQL, for each different value I am seeing different SQL_ID. Please explain on this.
Many thaks in advance for your help.
    Cheers,
    Suri

    hi ,
the best way to check for for hard parse and soft parse is by querying the data dictionar view v$sqlarea . There is a column called parse_counts(not sure of the name). the moment you execute a query , a row is reflected in this view.
for eg , when you query
select * from emp where empno=101,
select * from emp where empno=102,
select * from emp where empno=103,
    query the v$sqlarea  with a filter predicate on the sql_text . i.e  select * from v$sqlarea where sql_text like  '%select * from emp %'.
And then try querying the emp table using bind variable,
    select * from emp where empno=:x; -- pass 101 ,102,103
No new rows are formed in the v$sqlarea, rather the parsed_count keeps on increasing , contrary to the above queries(without using bind variables in which each query is new to the parser).
@Gurus : in 11g , i  have observed that all queries are converted to make you of bind variables .I knew that this was the implicit behaviour of plsql ,but now have they enhanced the sql engine too ?
    Thanks
