Hard Cover

I haven't purchased a hard cover book yet but I want to know if I don't want to use the dust jacket, will I have the title and cover photo on the actual hard cover of the album?

ktbmoe:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The cover will be a solid dark color with silver embossed printing like this.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Does anyone know how to simply edit the text in the spine of hard cover, 40 page book in the book mo

Does anyone know how to simply edit the text in the spine of hard cover, 40 page book in the book module? I can click into any other text window and edit and change attributes but I am locked out of editing text when it comes to the spine of the book. I spoke to Blurb support and they referred me to Adobe. I spent 45 minutes with support here - no one knew. I am still waiting for a call back with an answer... not holding my breath as it's been a few hours now. HELP!!!

Thanks for your reply John. I have experienced all the fiddly aspects you mentioned - these are attributes and although changing them requires the skill of a surgeon's hand - it's the actual editing of the text I can't seem to access anymore. The box just won't allow me to do anything except change attributes. Does that make sense? And it's only on the spine where I am having this issue. Puzzled! I have even rebooted the program and just now the computer - to no avail.

  • How to make hard cover paper book from iBooks author digital book

Someone suggested I make a few hard cover books from my iBooks Author published digital book. How would you go about doing this?
What file should I should I use, (PDF, etc)? What printer would do this best (iPhoto publishing, etc)?
Hoping it will be easy to use the format of iBooks Author so that I won't have to make changes.
    Many thanks for your help.

You can print directly from iBA or you can generate a PDF from the print menu and use that. Be sure to test layouts, orientation, etc. Of course certain content won't be output to a printer.
There are hundreds of printers to choose from - shop your budget.

When I was ready to place the order for my iPhoto book, I realized that it was for a soft cover book and I wanted hard cover.  How can I change this without losing my prepared book?

Duplicate your book and try to change the theme in the copy.  Chnaging the theme may change the layout  of your text fileds. That is why you need the copy to be able to compare the pages before and after.
Ctrl-click the book in the Source list and select "Duplicate".
Click the "Change Theme" button in the upper right corner of the Book pane, make sure, you have the same theme selected and the same size. Click Hardcover.

  • Somehow I messed up creating my hard cover book.  I don't have the back cover and flap.  How do I get it back?

somehow I messed up creating my hard cover book.  I don't have the back cover and flap.  How do I get it back?

What version of iPhoto are you running?  Where are you seeing this lack of back cover and flap.
A first try fix is this:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that doesn't help create a new book and see if the back cover and flap are in it.  If so then it appears that your original book is damaged.
You can try rebuilding the library by launching iPhoto with the Option and Command keys held down and select the option to Repair the Database, option #3.  If that fails rebuild again with option #4, Rebuild Database.
If that doesn't help then create a new book, verify that the back cover and flap is there and add the photos.

  • Set up book in hard cover instead of soft cover.

I just finished creating two photo books, one with 100 pages and the other with 90. I proceeded to order when I was asked to choose the color of the cover. It was then I noticed that I was ordering a hard cover book which I don't want. At this point, there was no way to indicate I wanted soft cover. Is there any way I can duplicate my efforts into a soft cover edition? Or, is it as I fear, that I had to choose soft cover BEFORE I began preparing the book?

    Judy:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I think you can. Select the soft cover book in the Source pane and type Command-D. That will give you a duplicate copy to try switching from soft to hard cover, same theme. Even though it warns you that text may be lost I've switched themes before without losing text. Worth a try.

All I can say is the books I've created as gifts to my children for their children were received with absolute joy and appreciation (each book chronicled in pictures  the first year of each grandchild's life). Granted the sentimental factor had a lot to do with the recipient's enjoyment of the book but they were spetacular. The book with its glossy dust cover is a very impressinve way to present your photos.
As Larry has pointed out so many have posted here that they were very satisfried with their book and Apple is very good about correcting problems.
To make sure there are no errors in the book before you order preview the book as described in this Apple document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it. If the PDF file shows no errors, either in text typos (my biggest problem) or in missing photos, etc., the printed book will be error free.

  • Can I change from hard cover to soft cover after the book is designed?

Can I change from hard cover to soft cover after the iphoto book is desgned?

Yes,  Just go to the View all pages window and click on the Change Theme button.  There you will be able to switch size and type of cover.  HOWEVER, just to be on the safe side make a copy of the book beforehand by clicking on it and typing Command+D (duplicate).  Sometimes some of the text might be lost.  It's a possiblity but I've never had it happen.

  • Hard cover repairs

Hi, I just recieved my first two books. Let me start by saying we are thrilled with the quality of the books and the shipping time was incredibly short.
One book is perfect... the other, well... print quality is excellent but the pages all fell out of the hard cover (they are joined by two staples, so it's not like they're going anywhere).
Any suggestions on how to fix this? I don't want to send it back to Apple, long story.
Are there any similar problems with the soft cover books?
We love the books and we'll keep making and buying them, but we want to know if we'll keep having to repair the bindings.
P.S. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but there are only 20-22 pages per book...

    watchdog4765:
That is not a common occurrence. If the problem just happened contact Apple thru http://www.apple.com/support/iphoto/customerservice/orderbooks/ and explain the situation. Apple is very good at giving refunds for what is obviously a production problem. Then you can re order the book.

  • Hard cover embossed title

I am making a hardback book with an image that covers the whole cover area on the fron of dustjacket. my question is this: is there a way to set the embossed title on the hard cover, if there is no text used on the dustjacket?

Not that I am aware of - but I'd try using a layout that has text and adding the title you want on the hardcover then changing to the full photo layout and see if the hardcover text sticks around

  • Hard cover only?!

I love the books I have ordered so far. But when I tried to order a large, soft covered book (it took me almost two weeks to format this 48 page book) upon check out the only choice given was the hard cover version. I ordered this version. But I still want to order a soft cover version.
Do I have to start over? Can I use my already formatted version and order the book I originally wanted?

This is what I would suggest. Create a duplicate of the book that you wish to reorder. This way, your original will be left unchanged.
    From iPhoto Help:
*To duplicate an item in the Source list*:
Select the item in the Source list that you want to copy.
    Choose Photos > Duplicate.
Double-click the name of the new item, then type a new name.
Open up the duplicate, and click on the "Themes" button. This will open a window in which you can choose the size, cover type, and theme of your book. You will be able to select the softcover option.
    I hope this helps.

  • Hard cover Books

I made a 78 photo soft cover "book". Its great!
Now, I want to create a hard cover of the same photos, but, hopefully without loading up each photo again. please advise to a simple new Mac user! Thx.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Select the book and type Command+D to duplicate the book. Open either copy and click on the Theme button. There you will be able to change the cover type. You'll get a message that you might lose text but I've had very good luck in changing themes or styles and not losing any. The other copy can be used to cut and past any text that might be lost.
Also be sure to do a Print to PDF of the book and proof it for all of the text, typos (my biggest problem), etc. before ordering.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Hard Cover To Soft Cover Order ?

    Hi
Is there a simple way to change my order (before I send it off) from a hard cover choice to a soft cover option ? I thought I had selected soft cover in the first place but I'm only getting a hard cover option when I click to buy book.
    Thanks for any help !
    Mike

That warning comes up before you tell it what to change to - if you change to a theme with substantially different text layouts you might lose something but just changing from hard cover to soft cover should not - but anything can happen - that is why a current backup is critical to avoid losing computer data including photos - I would update my current backup just before making the change just in case
But you should not lose anything
