Hard Disc Test: FAILED

Hello,
i have an HP Pavilion dv6 in which when it boots it stays on the HP logo for maybe 10 minutes and then it gives an error about the HD. When I run diagnostics test I get the following:
Short DST: FAILED
Failure ID: 0SJCGM-54D781-XD003G-60XJ03
Hard Disc 1
Hard Disc Test: FAILED

Well you've to replace the battery if that fails.
Do a hard reset first: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c01684768
Test by HP battery test.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00821536
You may also run this standalone battery test :
http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/battery_ts.htm
What are the result?
Calibrate the battery after the test.
Is it showing charging indicator when plugged in - anything in system tray - right lower down near the clock in desktop.
Uninstall & install Microsoft ACPI battery from Device manager - Control Panel :
a. Remove the battery of the laptop & power in with AC adapter plugged in
b. Press Windows Key + X. Select Device manager.
c. Expand the Batteries category.
d. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall.
WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
Shut down system after uninstallation finishes.
Insert battery , remove AC supply - try to power on.
Immediately press F10 to enter BIOS setup utility,
In the BIOS Setup utility, select the Exit tab.
Select Load Setup Defaults.
Select Save Changes and Exit (pressing F5 and the Enter key will also load the Setup Defaults).
Press Esc and then Enter to exit Setup.
Wait for Windows to load completely
Else, power on with both AC plugged & battery inserted & proceed.
Check.

  • Pavilion G6-1203ey: Hard Disk Test FAILED, but can still boot into Windows

    Hello
I have HP Pavilion G6-1203ey laptop. After installing Windows (7 ultimate, 64 bit) and some drivers on it and after several restarts, it hanged at Windows logo and I had to turn it off with power button. Then after turning it on, it gave me the option to repair problems which are preventing it from starting up, from there I let it to restore the computer to an earlier restore point and after a restart the Windows was working again. After that I decided to do a hard disk check just in case.
The Hard Disk Self Test ended up with a message: Hard Disk 1 Full (305). Then I installed HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Support Environment and did hard disk from there. I chose the comprehensive test from the options, but it finished fairly quickly (in ~1 minute) with the following output:
    Testing Drive: 1
Hard Disk SMART Check : PASSED
Hard Disk Short DST : FAILED
    FAILURE ID : PTTU22-5T774L-MFPV4K-60S003
    PRODUCT ID : A5Q15EA#B1R
    Hard Disk 1
    Hard Disk Test : FAILED
    A bit more background:
The previous owner told me that the original HDD was faulty which is why he replaced it with this one last year. He said that other than that there has been no problems with the laptop. The Windows is working right now and this HDD is quite new so I would not have expected any problems with it, but the results from the previously mentioned tests seem troubling. Is there a reason to worry?
    Thanks

    Hi Alnuir,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I read your post and looked into the failure ID that you posted regarding the failed Short DST test. That error is indicating a hard disk failure meaning that if it hasn't failed it might soon. If everything is working I would considering backing up your data on a regular basis just to be safe. You could have a local technician take a look at the hard drive to see how close it is to full failure.

  • My hard disc has failed how can I download data from my ipod to a new hard  disc?

my hard disc has failed how do i transfer the data on my Ipod/Ipad to a new hard disc?

In addition to the comments above, when you create a new library with the media that you recover this will be treated as "new" for the device and iTunes may want to wipe it and start over, losing any personal data and settings. The following approach ought to help.
    You should be able to:
Backup the device to your iTunes installation
Transfer your purchases into a library authorized to your account
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer (same as above)
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Hard disk test failed on HP Pavillion dv6-1100eo notebook

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-1100eo Entertainment Notebook PC  (P/N: NR597EA) with Vista 32-bit.  Unfortunately no warranty left in and general I have been very happy with this notebook.
However suddenly Wondows would not start up - and it did not even find Startup Recovery partition on the harddisk. As I wasn't sure if this Startup Recovery was on hard disk or not - I ordered System Recovery DVDs for this Scandinavian language version.
These disks did not work - so I figured I have probably not done my homework before ordering those disks.
Then I ran system Diagnostics (even if I have a old BIOS version F.03).  On the diagnositics - both Quick and Full Hard disk test failed during the first 1% of the scan.
Is there anything that can be done - or is the only option new hard disk? In case - what hard disk is recommended that is not too expensive - as I don't want to invest too much into a soon 3 year old notebook.
I recently bougth an external harddisk (1 TB) based on USB connection. Can that be used bypassing internal HD. In this way I would increase HD capacity and not invest anymore into this notebook - since I already have the recovery DVDs
It is probably only a time question before I will buy a new HP notebook - that is why I don't want any long permanent fix of this problem.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Sorry to say, but you won't be able to install or boot Vista from the external HDD, so if you need to get the notebook working, you're going to have to replace the internal drive.
The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.
    500Gb Hard Drive
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 57 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive.

  • Hard Disk Test Failed

I have a laptop G42 (Product # XB056UA#ABA) with Windows 7 64-bit. When I ran the start up test and hard drive test I received an error (Failure ID 9XVL02-55965Q-XD003G-60WS03). It says that the SMART Check passed but the Short DST failed. When I try to load windows I get past the starting windows screen but then it stops after that at the blue screen with the cursor showing but nothing else. I noticed on other forums that say to purchase the system recovery discs which I just received, however when I try them I get the same screen. I'm pretty sure the hard drive is dead, but my laptop is out of warranty. Is there something else I need to try to make the system recovery discs work? I changed the boot order so that the cd-rom is first but that didn't seem to help. If I do need to replace the hard drive is there any advice or information you can give me?  Thank you!

    Hi,
Failing the short Disk Self Test would indicate that the HDD has indeed failed and will need to be replaced.

  • Hard drive test failed

    Hi
My HP Pavilion G6 is showing HARD DISK IMMINENT FAILURE on startup and asks to go in diagnostics.
When I run any test it shows SMART CHECK - FAILED.
    Failure ID:  OTSE1F-5LC77B-XD015G-60FV03
    Product ID: QA498EA#ABV
    HARD DISK 1.
However, when i choose to continue startup, it loads Windows but runs very irritatingly slow.
How can i get it fixed?

    Hi,
The 24 character error code for the Smart failure would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the slow loading/performance issues you describe.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

  • Hard disk test failed-Hard disk 1 quick (303) for my HP mini 110-3700ca PC.

    Operation system Windows 7 32-bit.
After a tragic accidental "bump" on the table (I didn't even think it's that serious..), the computer start to slow down significantly, and when I tried to restart it, it shows:
    Windows Error Recovery
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
It recommend me to Launch Startup Repair, but since HP mini doesn't have a CD-Rom... It shows error status: 0xc0000225.
It's kind of obvious that the bumping might damaged the hard disk, so I tried to run hard disk check, and "hard disk 1 quick (303)" was all I got.
I've put a lot of files on my netbook, and I'm quite desperate to see it working again. Please help!!
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Well, that's very sad, could be due to physical damage too. Anyway, please do a HDD self test:
    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Keep tapping the F10 key when the HP logo appears. This will take you to Bios Setup Utility.
    3. Select the Diagnostic tab.
    4. Select the "hard drive self test" option and press enter to perform the test.
Note: This test takes at least 40 minutes (with luck)
Pass - The hard drive is not damaged, you can recover data.
Fail - the hard drive is damaged and may need to be replaced, no choice.
    Regards.

  • Hard disk test unable to complete on elitebook 2740p

when i run start up test, memory test passes but HDD test fails. the computer boot up to windows but takes longer. what may be the problem?

Whenever the Hard Disk Test fails that indicates that the Hard Disk Drive has failed and that requires a replacement to resolve the issue
This issue could be due to Application or driver conflicts, virus issues, file corruptions due to incompatible applications, improper shutdowns, update failures due to conflicts, sudden power surges, if notebook is dropped etc..
HP will provide a replacement Hard Disk Drive if the Notebook warranty is Active, If not you need buy a SATA Hard Disk Drive from a retail shop nearby
Please make sure you are getting at least equal capacity as the original one in order to use Recovery Disks. If you need you can buy a larger, but not smaller capacity Hard Disk Drive. For example if you have a 500GB Hard Disk Drive you can upgrade it to 750GB Hard Disk Drive but not 320GB Hard Disk Drive
Please try the below shown troubleshooting steps once:
Step 01. Remove the battery and unplug the AC/Power Adapter
Step 02. Press and hold the Power button for more than 30 Seconds
Step 03. Plug in the AC/Power Adapter (leave the Battery out for now)
Step 04. Press the Power button and check if the Unit works normal
If the above mentioned steps does not help, then you can try reseating the Hard Drive on your Notebook
If the issue persists again please Contact HP if your HP Notebook is under warranty, HP would replace the Hard Disk Drive and provide you a Recovery media to restore factory operating system after replacement (if you've not yet created Recovery Discs/USB Media)
Note: Back up all the personal data to an external drive if it's possible. Otherwise you could connect the failed HDD via SATA to USB adapter with another PC or same PC after replacement of HDD & re-installation of OS and try copying /recovering the files. Hi,
Unfortunately it does look like you'll need to replace the HDD - the error code for the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.
The HDD is a warranty item, so if your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP ( with the 24 character error code ) and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

  • Hard disc failed

My son's laptop, Pavilion G6-1296SA, has refused to boot up and having run the diagnostics, I've discovered that the problem is with the hard disc.  I got the following from the startup test:
    startup test failed
    hard disc 1
    failure id 9u6jmg-5t76n5-mfpv4k-60qv03
    product id a2u13ea#abu
The startup repair just runs all day and, if there is a physical problem with the disc, I don't suppose it will resolve anything.  The disc makes no unusual noises.
Does anyone know what this failure ID means?
    Thanks
    Marion

Only HP can tell you what that specific code means.
The failure of the hard disk test means that you need to replace the hard disk with a new one. Time to get your recovery disk set or usb recovery media ready for use.
If your notebook is still in warranty, contact HP to arrange to have  a warranty replacement hard disk sent to you .The hard disk is an end user replaceable warranty item
Did you run the  hard disk long test?
