Hard disk change

Hi everybody,
yesterday I changed the hard disk. The default is completly bullsheet.
I bought 64Gb SSD KingSpec 1.8". Excellent result.
Very Fast. Windows 7 pro only takes 8 seconds to start.
the link to buy it is: http://www.memoryc.com/products/description/64GB_KingSpec_1_8-MicroSATA_SSD_Solid_State_Disk-MLC_/in...
I know, 64Gb maybe is not many memory, but for me it's enough and the usage of the booklet.
Now, it's fast.
In the other hard, I bought a Class 10 SDHC card, to use as ReadyBoost

I just wanted to say, that anyone, who is deploying SSD in their Booklet should keep in mind a fact, that accordingly to an SSD specs, this kind of drives have much more shorter write/re-write cycles, than an HDD.
I usually use my desktop PC as a data storage. I keep my media and important data files there and don't use to do much of daily write/re-write operations: just a few movements when I'm working in OS for paging operations and writing down some lovely media to keep it for a long time.
But I use my laptop a completely different way - there's a whole "movement universe": endless file migrations, gigs of write/erase/re-write operations on disk during a day, copying and transferring files from and to peripheral devices, work and home usage. We have only 1 Gb of RAM in Booklet, so swapping operations is a normal thing to happen daily.
Moreover, a mobile device is much more vulnerable to static electricity and electro-magnetic fields, than a desktop PC, which in fact is grounded. But when a mobile PC, such as Booklet 3G become to own an SSD drive, that is very sensitive for this kind of surroundings - yeah, it is very fast, but I'm afraid it is not as lucky move, as it might seem at first.
At least for the people, who are using their device the way similar to mine.
What do you think?

    Hi,
First try running a system file check.  From the Start Menu, click All Programs, click Accessories and then right click on the Command prompt and select 'Run as administrator'.  Into the prompt, type the following command and hit return.
sfc /scannow                       ( there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete.  When finished type exit and hit return.  Reboot the PC and see if the problem still occurs.
If it does, download and install ccleaner on the link below.
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
First run the file cleaning utility and then use the registry cleaner by choosing it from the icon on the left.  Click scan for issues and when the scan has finished, click fix selected issues, saving when the program asks, and then delete them.  Repeat this process until no issues are found.
Reboot the PC and see if this has helped.
    Best wishes,
    DP-K

  • Weird noise out of the hard disk

So, as i was listening to the music throgh earphones, i could hear a noise of the harddisk. It sounds like an old G3 apple laptop did.
It sounds like it's blending something, the sound is so Extra-terestrial-science-fictional.
You can hear the hard disk change songs and you can hear the hard disk turning around from a good distance.
you can hear it very good while charging.
    impressive though.
Is it normal? Is it OK?
    tnx.m.

I've had that message appear when I connect my car charger sometimes. And it's the car charger they sell at the AT&T store made specifically for iPhones. It doesn't do it every time, just once in awhile.
I've never had it just appear out of the blue, though.

    Hello,
    that is a VMM issue.
If you did not deploy your virtual cluster from a VMM service template, VMM doesn't recognize the configuration.
Until MS got it fixed, you could use the workaround from system center central:

Hello, I changed my Imac hard drive which no longer worked. I installed a hard drive
Western Digital 500 GB 7200 rpm SATA3 WD5002AALX 32M Black. Sometimes I see the hard disk in the utility on the Starter CD, but access seems very slow. By cons when I want
install OS X 10.4.2 on the hard drive, I do not see the disk. What is the problem?

    Thanks for the help
I started on the installation CD OS X 10.4.2, I used Disk Utility
to partition the disk according to the document that you have proposed. unfortunately
I have not succeeded. When I partition the disk, even if I called it Macintosh HD, it
does not keep the name and it shows disk0s3 instead. I did an erase on disk.
When I mount the disk it tells me that I must repair. When I tried to repair, I got
    the following message:
    Volume check failed
The underflying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error.
    I also had a message:
    Invalid b-tree node size.
Note: The disc is new, but it has already been formatted on a computer Imac 27 inch 2011 OS X Lion.
I used a USB 2.0 to SATA cable to adjust the formatting.
What to do to fix it?

  • Unable to change permissions on Hard Disk Drives after rolling back OSX Lion to Snow Leopard

Are you able to help me?
I had several problems with permissions and a series of other serious issues after upgrading to Lion, so I did a clean re-install of Snow Leopard 6.4 (from disk), upgraded to 6.8 and still had permissions problems which I have made worse by doing what I thought made sense - giving my administration user access to all hard disks and time machine back-ups. I emphasise "hard disks" because I have an iMac 27" i7 and 250GB Flash Drive provided by Apple where I keep OSX and aplication files.  Thus the Flash Drive (FD) becomes the boot disk, not the Hard Drive.
Changing preferences on the Apple HD (not FD) and the Time Machine Backup HD to my user name (with administration privaleges) has had the reverse effect of not giving me access to anything other than my OSX system volume on my 250GB Flash drive!  I can only see my files on the hard drives with the root user (which I have used for the first time ever to get that access).  But using the root user does NOT allow me to change permissions of either my Time Machine backup disk or the Hard drive on my iMac !  Why oh why??
Googling for solutions suggested using iRepair to change permissions but that gives me a "boing" when I try with no effect - at least a "boing" is more feedback that the Apple Finder's response to my attempt to alter permissions in the "info" window!
Oh! and of course I have unsuccessfuly tried the Disk Utility as well, which does come back with errors - that appear to be "safe to ignore" from Apple Support's website!
I originally posted a slightly different message to this one to  https://discussions.apple.com/message/16955471#16955471 because it appeared to have similar issues. It appears as if my problem is unfortunately quite unique!

So the background to this situation:
    1. The user had OS 10.6.8 installed on one volume, while his actual users home folders stored on a second volume, this is fine but can sometimes cause issues during/post upgrade to 10.7
    2. The user upgraded to 10.7 and while his home folders were still being accessed, he no longer had permission to change or modify them.
    3. The user downgraded to 10.6.4 again which broke the link for his users completely.
    4. In an attempt to change the permissions for his information he had the (common) mistake of changing the permissions of his root level of his drive, this did several things, in addition to negatively effecting his OS, it also locked the drive mount points in his (hidden) /Volumes/ folder.
    5. the steps taken to help rectify this issue:
    A. Open Terminal.
    B. TYPE:
    chmod -N /
    chmod 1775 /
    chown root:admin /
    C. Reboot computer
    D. Open Disk Utility.
    E. Repair permissions on the boot volume.
    F. Also the following commands were run on her second drive to allow him access to his stuff again:
    sudo chflags -R nouchg /path to drive/
    chmod -R 775 /path to drive/
    chmod -RN /path to drive/
    chown -R username:staff /path to drive/
Once the permissions repair is complete the Users can be readded to the System Preferences>Accounts pane and the paths to home directories located in his second drive using the "Advanced Options..." section, but due to the time the permissions repair was going to take this step will be posted tomorrow.
Also each user will require Terminal commands to make the permissions unique for each user: (this must be done PRIOR to the users being added in System Preferences>Accounts.
    chmod -N /
    chmod 1775 /
    chown root:admin /
sudo chflags -R nouchg /path to home folder/
    sudo chmod -R 775 /path to home folder/
sudo chmod -RN /path to home folder/
    sudo chown -R username:staff /path to home folder/

The finder window for an external USB hard disk suddenly started separating files by time (today, yesterday, etc.) and stopped allowing me to change column width, order, etc. Also the header bar shifted to flat white from gray.
All was normal until the icon for the disk stopped showing up on the desktop when I would plug it in. I rebooted the computer, and the disk icon now shows up but this new look to the finder window started as a result. The hard disk does not have this problem when I use it on another Mac running Snow leopard. Also, two other external hard disks that I use on this computer running lion 7.4 still have the normal header bars with columns that can be reordered, etc.
I have tried looking in preferences and other places but have not seen this discussed.

Well duh - I finally figured out that somehow in the View options for the hard drive, the "arrange by" option had been changed to "by date" from "none". Not sure how that happened, I had never used the "view options" menu tem before. Changing "arrange by" back to "none" gets the gray column headers and the collapsible folder icons back.

  • I change iMac hard disk from basic to dynamic in windows 7

I change iMac hard disk from basic to dynamic in windows 7, after restart windows I saw that there is not any OS X for selecting by press and hold "Option" key.
I don't have any backup and the original DVD from the seller. I live in Iran and here there is no any Apple seller or supporting center.
What should I do to have OS X again ?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You probably erased the hard drive by doing that. If you have got a Mid 2010 or later iMac, you can use Internet Recovery to reinstall OS X > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718 Hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your computer is starting.
Then, open Disk Utility, choose your hard drive at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase it in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
If you have got an older Mac, call Apple to get replacement DVDs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

  • More than 1200 bad blocks do I need to change my Hard Disk

What software and version did you use to determine you had 1200+ bad blocks?
    Was it compatible with Lion?
Run the scan again and take a screen shot of the results and make sure to save it to a external media and disconnect it, you will need this to perform a warranty call and have the drive replaced.
After you have backed up your files to a external storage drive and disconnected it.
Hold Command r upon rebooting and enter the Lion Recovery Partition and run Disk Utility, see if the drive needs repair. I suspect it does. Check the smart status too.
    Follow the
Restoring OS X 10.7 (new drive, total reformat method)
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16276201#16276201
Also make a clone of your OS X Lion Partition on a external drive, this way your prepared if the drive dies, you can option boot off the clone. If you get a new drive you have a copy of Lion Recovery on the USB.
It's highly unusual for a drive to have 1200+ bad blocks, the Zero Erase Free Space will confirm it as it's going to use up all your spare blocks.
The drive will likely brick, which you then can option boot off the clone.
Schedule a Apple warranty/AppleCare call if your under it, or order a new drive online from OtherWorld Computing "kits", iFixit for videos or other Mac places online.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
You can read my link provided how to format the drive.
However if your Zero Erase Free Space turns out fine, then I suspect the software you used or perhaps something else is wrong with your OS X not correctly reporting your drives data characteristics correctly.
You could be spared a costly repair if that's the case.
    Good Luck.

I am running iTunes on an IBM compatible system running Windows XP with a relatively small hard disk (70gb). I have 4 kids with 4 IPOD Touches, multiple IPOD Nanos, etc. Their apps and album art are eating up the hard disk space. I changed the Media Folder through Edit, Prferences, Advances, iTunes Media Folder to an external hard disk. The new music downloads and purchases go there but the apps and other items do not. How do I get the apps and other iTunes software and downloads to go to the external hard disk

There is no built in function to make this happen.
    Your options are:
    Upgrade the existing hard drive.
Try creating a link for the app folder on the external drive... this may or may not work.
Realistically, a larger hard drive is a better solution, then use the external drive for keeping a backup of the ENTIRE iTunes folder and any other personal data on the system.

  • HT5313 How can i change my hard disk up to 250 GB or 500 GB ?

Can i change my hard disk up to 200 GB or 500 GB ? if i can,how should i do ?

Clone backup current drive to an external disk (SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner). The external disk should be a FireWire drive so you can boot it (I believe the White MacBooks only booted external FireWire drives). You should test booting the cloned external before continuing.  Or you could clone the current MacBook drive to the new replacement drive, which could be done via USB or FireWire.
If I recall correctly, remove the battery, remove a metal shield, pull out the current drive, remove the bracket, attach bracket to new drive, slide new drive back in, put metal shield back on, put battery back in.
If you cloned directly to new replacement drive, boot up your MacBook and enjoy.
If you cloned to an external FireWire, boot the external cloned FireWire drive,  and clone it back to the new replacement drive.
If you consider your data valuable, have yet another backup to a different drive before starting just to be safe.
There should be YouTube videos that will show you how to do this, or search MacSales.com for how to videos.
