Hard Disk Imminent Failure

I have had this laptop for a month and after about 2 weeks I received a message upon startup saying Hard Drive imminent failure. I've backed up all my data and ran the hard drive tests.<br>The hard drive tests immediately found a failure and gave me a failure ID but no resolutions.<br><br>I am currently using the laptop as normal but with an external hard drive plugged in for caution. The hard drive hasn't failed yet but the message still appears.<br><br>I am slightly confused at what is wrong and why it seems to of not resolved itself ?<br>Any help would be much appreciated ?

Hi Jake,
You are probably still in warranty.  Make sure you've backed up your files externally and contact hp support.  You'll need a replacement hard drive.  Sorry to hear you've problems, glad they happened while you are covered.

  • SMART Hard Drive Imminent failure

Hi, today when I woke up and started my computer it started up with an error message stating that my hard drive was in for imminent failure. I'm not sure exactly how this has happened. I've never dropped my computer, and it has always been sitting on my desk and has rarely left it. I'm not sure exactly what this means, and it keeps telling me to back it up.
I have a HDX16t HP laptop bought around July of 2009. Also one thing to note is that I also have had issues with my battery, in the sense that my computer cannot run on battery or it will shut off. My laptop came like that and I've been meaning to get it fixed but just haven't had the time.
Any kind of information will be great. And please let me know whether or not I should take it into some kind of computer repair shop or anything, or if this is something I can fix on my own.
    Thanks!!

Hi, backup your data as some as possible.
Contact HP as your laptop is still under warranty.

  • HP Envy Hard Drive Imminent Failure message

I've been getting this error when I turn on my laptop. It reads "SMART Hard Drive detects imminent failure. To ensure no data loss, backup contents and contact HP"
I've run the Hard Drive Self Test and it has failed that along with most of the other tests on the list that pops up. My laptop still works fine but I was curious as to if I should get my hard drive replaced and how to go about doing that? My warranty expired at the end of December, though the first instance of  this happened before December. I forgot about it since I usually never turn off my laptop.
I've been trying to find out if I could purchase an extended warrantee or another method to get it fixed and replaced through HP. Any help would be appreciated.
I have a HP Envy 14-1154ca Beats edition.

This is a warning message stating that the hard drive would die soon. Please the backup of all your personal data as the system is currently working fine. Refer the following weblink for more information:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00480479&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
You cannot buy an extended warranty when there is a hardware failure on the unit. I would recommend you just buy another hard drive and then think of buying an extended warranty from HP.

    Hi,
Unfortunately it does look like you'll need to replace the HDD - the error code for the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.
The HDD is a warranty item, so if your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP ( with the 24 character error code ) and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.

  • Hard Disk Drive Failure

    Hello,
I recently tried updating my iTunes on my Pavilion g6 with Windows 8 and when it went to restart to complete the update, the computer never restarted.  I ran a diagnostic and this is what I get:
    failure id: U4VL7D-6GE74R-MFPx0k-60RU03
    hard disk short dst: failed
    product id: D1C00UA#ABA
Would an iTunes update really have caused my hard disk to go bad?  I'm confused?  It seems as though, based on what I've read on some other posts, that I will have to replace my hard disk.  Could you provide a manual of how to do so based on my laptop and Windows 8 please?  Also, if I do so, will I lose all of the documents/pics/music/etc. I have saved on my laptop?
    Thank you so much.

Updating iTunes did not kill the hard drive...purely coincidental. You have to be doing something when it fails.
It is a G6-2320dx for anyone else looking in. Here is the Service Manual:
    Manual
Page 44 shows physical hard drive replacement. Do you have the recovery disks the system asks you to make when the laptop is new? If so you can reload it to factory condition from those. If not, we can link you to a Windows 8 DVD image you can download which will install and activate automatically. Your Key Code is embedded in the BIOS and will be applied during Windows 8 installation.
Likely data can be recovered from the old drive. You just need a usb to SATA adapter like this to plug it in to another computer and copy and paste your files to another computer like yours when you get the new drive installed and loaded with Windows. All your drivers and factory programs are on the old drive as well as your music itunes settings etc. We can probably help you migrate all that over:

  • Satellite M30-604 - Hard disk mechanical failure

My satellite M30-604 is within warranty (bought 10 months ago) and my Hitachi travelstar hdd crashed out of the blue. The crash is probably mechanical so I can not use data recovery software (it makes things worse). The only way to get my data is to give the HD to some specialist who will open it in a "clean room" for something like 300 - 600 Euros (!) and try to recover as much as possible. Now:
-> Toshiba says that if I do that the warranty is void and I will also have to pay for a new disk (+ 100 euros)
-> If I want to replace the disk (warranty) then toshiba gets the old disk and I lose my data forever!!!
    WAIT A MINUTE GUYS!!!
    a) this is my data, my work and you CAN NOT blackmail me with this "warranty void" stuff. I want my old crashed disk back! I want to try to recover as much as I can! my 10-hours-a-day work is IN there!
    b) Moreover even if the heads of the disk crashed, my PERSONAL, PRIVATE data are still in the disk and CAN be read with special techniques. How can toshiba (or any other company for that matter) ask me to hand it over to them?
    What should I do?
    What would you do?

    Hi there,
I sympathise with your problem and can only suggest the following thoughts :
    1. Recovery of your data would seem the most important factor here. I would suggest removing the HDD yourself so that it can be sent to a specialist to recover what data is possible.
    2. Since removal of the HDD does not usually involve extensive dismantling of the notepad it should not invalidate the remaining warranty (other than on the HDD itself).
    3. A replacement HDD can usually be obtained quite cheaply from one of the internet sellers (check using GOOGLE for a suitable replacement). you can then re-install your operating system from the recovery CDs.
    4. I would suggest investing in a suitable backup software package (such as Norton Ghost) to avoid this problem in the future. (I have had four replacement HDDs on my Satellite A30 in the last 12 months).

    how can i fix it?

    Hi,
Run the test on the Hard Drive from the Bios Menu as follows.
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a test on the Hard Drive.  Post back with the details of the error message this generates.
Can you also post back with the following.
    1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook ( from the service tag underneath your notebook ) - see Here for a further explanation.
    2.  The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 32bit ).

  • Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO Select Edition Entertainment Notebook PC hard disk failure imminent.

Lately this laptop has been running slow and hot. Just yesterday,  I recieved an error message on my laptop (HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO), saying "SMART Hard Disk Error" followed by a message telling me that the SMART hard disk check has detected an imminent failure. It told me to backup my files and then press F2 and run a hard disk test. The Quick Test Passed. The complete test gave this error.:"Hard Disk reporting failure 301 Disk Name: Toshiba MK7559GSXP Volume C:/D:/F:/)". I am sure I will have to replace the hard disk. Right now it is a Toshiba 750GB SATA hard disk drive, 5400 RPM, 2.5 inch small form factor (SFF). Can this hard drive be replaced with a Hybrid SSHD like the following:
    Seagate Hybrid Drives ST1000LM014 1TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 2.5" Laptop SSHD
    or
TOSHIBA Hybrid Drives MQ01ABD100H 1TB+8GB(NAND Flash) 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Laptop SSHD
If not, what would be the best replacement hard drive that you reccommend?

    Hi,
You can put the second HDD on the second bay, existing BIOS can handle this BUT you need more hardware namely a caddy set (caddy & cables). You can buy from:

  • Hard disk failure imminent

I have a Pavilion 1400-Z desktop. It was purchased last November.  I have only had it for 2 months.  Now everytime it reboots I get an error message about an imminent hard disk failure.  It says in a message after I login that the hard disks reporting failure are volumes C:\,D:\
These are both partitions set up in single 500gb drive that were set up as part of the factory install.
Is there anything that can be done other than replacing this hard drive?
Obviously it is still under warranty.  If replacement is the only solution, how do I go about getting the process started.  I've barely gotten to use my new computer and it is already failing.
    Failing Drive SATAO
    Failing Attributer: #05
I am very disappointed that I continue to have hardware problems with factory installed HP components.

Since your computer is still under warranty, your best bet is to contact HP Customer Support and start the troubleshooting / repair process.
