Hard disk partition issue

Dear
I purchased Lenovo G580 one month before. The hard disk size is 750GB.The “C” itself 650GB. I tried to do the partition of250GB from Local disk C. After partition it shows unallocated space. But after that I could not make format for that unallocated Partition. During partitioning a pop up window shows that “The operation you selected will convert the selected basic disc to dynamic disc. If you convert the disk to dynamic, you will not be able to start installed operating systems from any volume on the disk (except the current boot volume). Are you sure you want to continue?”.
If I press “yes” the popup window show that “Dynamic disks are not supported by this operating system or server configuration. Dynamic disks are not supported on clusters”.Please check and give me a solution. I am using Windows 7 Home premium . here i attached the photos.

It may be formatted in some Windows format that Macs cannot use. If there’s nothing on the drive that you want to save, reformat it with a Mac-friendly format. http://computers.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-format-your-macs-hard-drive--mac- 53986

  • Hard disk partition issue and space issue

Hello i was trying to do a partition on my hard disk on my macbook pro retina. Wen i go to disk utility and try it says i need to repair the disk. I used command r in reboot and repaired but still having issues. When i look at space i get two different space available on macintosh HD. Here are the pictures you will see the space available is different depending what i choose. I am confused. Any help is appreciated. Here are the pics.

When you boot using Cmd-R, you're booting from a hidden Recovery Partition. That partition is using part of the space that is the size difference you're seeing between the Media line (upper picture) and the boot partition line. You can turn on the Debug Menu which shows the extra partitions using these directions.
I'm not sure but I suspect the issue may be that your boot partition is encrypted.

  • Hard disk partition not showing up during window 7 install

    Hi there,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that your hard drive is not showing up, presumably as a bootable partition. I am happy to help, but I need a bit more clarification of your problem. You mention a 0x00000116 error as well, which is normally part of a Blue Screen of Death. Does this happen regularly as well, or is that the real complaint, that you are getting the 0x code and a BLue Screen on startup?
That particular code is generally associated with a video driver problem.
Is the hard drive you are trying to install to, a new replacement hard drive or the original hard drive?
If you try to boot up the system, what error do you see?
Are there any repeating flashing LED patterns, or beeping patterns?
Assuming this is your original installed hard drive, did you try the recovery manager for the drive?

  • Can't erase anything on an external hard disk partition of bootable backup ____error message -50 "Error in user parameter"

    I am using MACOSX 10.6
The data on the disk partition  on my Iomega 2Tb external hard disk drive (labeled "Bootable Backup") was written by Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC ver. 3.37)
I have had problems with overwriting this using CCC, and I have also had troubles changeing the data on my "Versioned Backup"  partition, using either CrashPlan or CCC
A third partition that was virgin ("Half-Tb Volume") on the same external disk drive, however, DID accept the latest CCC bootable backup of my Macintosh HD...which is the reason I want to recover rthe space on the first bootable backup partition.
I have not found any links to this error using Google search, apart from the definition.
    Anyone

Do a backup using Time Machine or a clone. Then boot into the Recovery Volume (command - R) on a restart. Run Disk Utility Repair disk. If it can't repair the disk, then select the erase tab and reformat using Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Also click the Option button and select GUID. When complete, reboot normally and restore your data.
Please update your profile to reflect the OS you are running.

  • Hard disks, partitions and Mac Pro

    Hi all,
I'm new to the Mac Pro and am migrating from a Windows environment, I have used a iBook for the past 6 months and this is the reason for totally migrating to a Mac Desktop.
I have spent half a day on browsing the forum here, very confusing I must say but then again I add that I am an absolute a-technical person.
    I have a few questions on storage which I hope might get answered here;
    My Hardware:
I am about to order a 2,66ghz Mac Pro, 4GB Ram, XP1900 and a 160Gb hard disk will will be replaced as soon as the Mac Pro enters my dwelling.
    My Work Environment:
Apart from the basic office things, Internet, Mail and such I will use the mac Pro 90% for Imaging purposes. Most used applications:
    - CS2
    - Aperture
    - Adobe Lightroom
as well as a number of add-ons like HDR programs, Noise programs, RAW converters etc.
I am a Photographer working with Mid-format and Standard format images, which in some case, like when using HDR can reach sizes of well over 150-200Mb per image!
Useually the image size of a 16bit mid-format tiff are around 70MB.
Now for the question, how to configure the best possible HD setup.
I will use WinXP, which I would like to run on a seperate partition/disk
    I need a schratch disk for CS2
I need roughly 500GB of intermediate storage for imgaes before the periodically get back-up to external hard disk.
So I was thinking the following, and this only based upon how I used my Win Environment:
150GB Raptor as start-up disk and location for programs and OSX as well as basic documents and files
    76GB Raptor as Scratchdisk
500GB as WinXp disk (30%) and rest as storage for Image cataloging system (mainly normal sized Jpegs)
    750GB as Image tank
I have the Raptors, but don't have to use them if a better solution comes out. Since I will be using my Win pc until everythink works satisfactory on the Mac...
    some remarks:
I have red about raid, both 0 and 1 seem interesting but I will loose out on disk space possibilities, and will be forced to work with external drives again, which I don't like... but if push comes to shove I will do that.
sorry for the information overload, and maybe all points have been answered in other threads before, but whilst browsing through hundreds of threads I couldn't see the forest becasue of the trees anymore.
One last comment, I make my living with photography so a good setup is of vital importance ....
Kindest regards, and many thanks in advance

    Hi all,
    Hi,
Now for the question, how to configure the best
    possible HD setup.
IMO; use a 3 drive RAID 0 for your boot, application, and
data partition - my style would be all in one big partition
and just segragate stuff with folders. I would then add 2
USB or FireWire drives. One for backing up your system
and one for the windows XP if you just have to have windows
running on your MacPro. They don't run at the same time you
know - like on Amiga where MacOS, Windows, and AmigaOS all
multitasked together in shared memory space simultainiously.
As such my opinion is that it's better to keep your WinTel
box on a KBM switch and LAN the two together.
I will use WinXP, which I would like to run on a
    seperate partition/disk
    I need a schratch disk for CS2
With a 3 drive RAID your disk I/O is between 3 and 20 times
the speed of a single drive setup so separate cache drive
isn't really advantagious. Click on the link below and
scroll down to the Drive Test area:
    http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc1=199338&doc2=195252
Both are my profiles. One with a single drive, and one
with a 3-drive raid. No other differences.
I need roughly 500GB of intermediate storage for
imgaes before the periodically get back-up to
    external hard disk.
So I was thinking the following, and this only based
upon how I used my Win Environment:
150GB Raptor as start-up disk and location for
programs and OSX as well as basic documents and
    files
    76GB Raptor as Scratchdisk
500GB as WinXp disk (30%) and rest as storage for
Image cataloging system (mainly normal sized Jpegs)
    750GB as Image tank
I have the Raptors, but don't have to use them if a
better solution comes out. Since I will be using my
Win pc until everythink works satisfactory on the
    Mac...
IMO the Raptors are overpriced. If it were me I would sell
them. I think the two together will pay for all three 320
or 300 gig RAID drives. I did some research regarding which
drives are good in a Mac RAID environment and I ended up
going for the the MaxLine Maxtor drives (even though I hate
Maxtor usually). So far I'm very happy with them and the
fact that they are like one of the most inexpensive drives
you can get didn't hurt either.
I think that if a person REALLY needs the speed offered by
Raptor drives and is willing to pay the difference for it
then they should just get a dedicated RAID card which offers
even more of a speed increase!!!
    some remarks:
I have red about raid, both 0 and 1 seem interesting
but I will loose out on disk space possibilities, and
will be forced to work with external drives again,
which I don't like... but if push comes to shove I
    will do that.
You don't lose any space if you use just RAID 0. If there
are three 300gig HDs that format individually to 260gig
each then in a RAID 0 configuration you would have 780gigs.

  • Hard disk partition as a neutral "go-in-between" MacOS and WinXP?

    Hi gurus,
I have a MacBook with a 500GB hard drive partitioned between Mac (400GB) and bootcamp (NTFS, 100GB, running Windows XP). Unfortunately I am using old software which does not exist for a Mac, written under Win 95 and operating an external controller unit. I then analyze the incoming data with MatLab and ArcGIS, but need to do further data processing under Mac environment (further statistical analyses, image editing and writing up the results).
I was advised to use bootcamp to speed up the PC performance with GIS and MatLab because the data is quite "heavy" (memory and time consuming operations on rasters some of which are 100's of MB).
I find myself switching frequently between operating systems, accessing my data on a flash or an external backup drive. Last week when my backup disk crashed logically after an improper ejection, I realized that I eject and re-eject it too often now. So basically I would like to have an "internal" go-in-between partition, where I can save and read data from both systems exactly as I do from a flash stick.
Is that possible in any way? I tried to resize the mac partition and add a FAT one, but this doesn't seem to work at all (googled the error, followed recommendations, no good). I have been told there is software which lets Win read Mac partition and vice versa, but I don't want the systems to interfere with each other. I just want a neutral piece of land where I can place some neutral data...
    Thanks,
    Benny

  • Hard disk partition area inaccessable

    Hello,
I have a 15 GB Quantum HDD. I tried to Install Solaris and it created a swap partition of size 720 MB on it. The installation failed due to some reason afterwards. BUT that partition is now INACCESSABLE. I have tried low level disk formating utilities, i have tried Quantum Disk Manager "Zero fill", I have tried to do every thing but every thing results in a total accessable size of 14300 MB. Where is my 720 MB area. THe badluck is that it was created in the primary partion area of the hard disk. Now Iwant to install linux as well as windows on my harddisk but there is not enough primary partion area to create necessary partitions. Can some one tell me how to retrieve this area taken over by solaris ???
    Kamran

    Hi,
15 GB Harddisk space is FORMATTED capacity. I have checked BIOS settings. Plus I have tried to format it low-level on my P-I and P-II machines as well. But not successful. This problem occured since I tried to Install Solaris on it. I tried to Install SOLARIS again and it shows that partition as a non-DOS partition. I happily deleted that partition from there but after restart it again vanished.
What should I do ? I have also written to Maxtor people but still haven't got a reply.

  • IMovie rendering hard disk space issue

    Hi,
I have a 2.33GHz Mac Book Pro and a seagate 500GB firewire drive. All my imported video clips are located on the external drive. I have created the project on the external drive as well. My inbuilt hard disk is loaded up with music snaps and other office data.. and i have successfully created a imovie project. i have about 20 GB of free space and the project is 2.5 hours long. i am not able to render the movie and send it to iDVD as my hard disk runs out of space. is there any way that the rendering can be done on the external drive as well?

    Karthik Nayak wrote:
.. is there any way that the rendering can be done on the external drive as well?
    no.
temp-files are always stored on the same drive/partition where the OS-in-use is located.
you could install a MacOs on your ext. HDD and launch from there..
or, perhaps easier to realize, de-locate your Libs (iPhoto, iTunes) to an ext. HDD to have more free disk space on your internal ... read the support pages how to accomplish that!

  • HARD DISK DRIVER ISSUES WHILE INSTALLING WINDOWS 8

I am trying to install windows 8 on my PC, but it is asking for hard drive drivers. I have installed windows 8 before with no issues on the same PC with same configuration, but now I am facing these driver issues. Currently  I am running Win7 as i cannot
    reinstall Win8.
    Config:
    Gigabyte Motherboard 945G with Intel Core2duo8400 3ghz,
    Intel(R) 82801G(ICH7) FAMILY CHIP SET,
4gb Ram, Nvidia graphic card, Seagate hard disk 160Gb.

    Hi,
I doubt that the hard drive is either a SATA drive or in a RAID setup, you might need to install RAID controller drivers or SATA driver during the installation.
I also suggest you refer to the following link and check if it can give some hints.

Apple refuses to replace it without me visiting a retail store (almost an hour drive).
Should I just take the hit and buy a new drive?

Personally, I would take it back, try a new one right in the store, and if that didn't work, I would demand my money back and wait until Apple fixes this hard drive issue. Oh, and tell the manager of the Apple Store you want an iTunes gift certificate for all your troubles and traveling time.

  • Serious hard disk space issue (9.2 on XP Professional, 56 GB not enough)

    Hello,
I installed Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 on HP Pavilion running Windows XP Professional (Pentium 4).
Following are the numbers about disk space:
Space before starting Installation: 56.8 GB
Universal Installer indicated Enterprise Edition needs 2.86 GB and I selected General purpose database.
Universal Installer in summary before starting installation shows:
    Space requirements as
    C:\Required 2.57 (includes 90 MB temporary): Available 56.82GB
After completion of installation: I had hard disk space available as 32.6 GB (Approximately 25 GB space was taken)
Within couple of hours hard disk space dropped to 12 GB
and some thing kept taking the hard disk space.
Where is the problem? Oracle? XP? HP?
After uninstall Oracle and deleting Oracle home space is 56.5
Am I doing some thing wrong?
Earlier I tried the same on XP home edition and within couple of hours I ran out of space on same computer after installing Oracle 9.2
    Any pointers, help greatly appreciated.

  • Hard Disk Sleep Issue

Does anyone else notice their Hard Disks trying to sleep even though the "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" box is unchecked in the Energy Saver preference pane? I keep hearing drives inside my Mac Pro spooling down, then normally spooling up again 30 seconds later. I've tried restoring the prefs to default and an SMC reset with no luck. Thanks..

Hi Mate ! I am experiencing the same problem with my MacPro - did search a lot of discussions - but didn´t get any helpful answer. I switched off all sleep/energy saver modes. Did all system resets, even all onyx scripts - nothing helped. From time to time - specially when working with the Mac Pro Apps - the second internal diskdrive falls to sleep and needs about 20 to 30 sec. to reactivate. I can switch between programs at that time, but all I see is the rainbow wheel. Does anyone know a workaround for that ? It would be very much appreciated

  • Power on and hard disk password issue with rescue and recovery ?

I have set a power on and hard disk password to prevent any unauthorized user to boot the computer and thats works fine but the problem is that it can be bypassed very easily by pressing the THINKVANTAGE blue button and going through the initial screen of the rescovery process.
When you reach the main screen of the recovery process just press on "restart system" and on the next boot up you won't be asked for a password and it will boot into Windows. Is there any way to prevent a user to initiate a rescue and recovery to bypass the password or even better a patch that will trigger the password screen as soon as the blue THINKVANTAGE button is pressed ?

I just recently discovered this problem as well.
I'm hoping someone can help us with this.
