Hard Disk Self Test Failed

Dear Sir,
I have an Hp Pavilion DV6-2113AX notebook, and since yesterday i am not able to access my Hard Drive. Since i am working as an assistant manager, its really important for me to back up all the data. It is very crucial for me to atleast back up the inrormation. Since the information stored on the hard disk are really important from my office point of view.
I did all the usual checks and tests, still i get the Error "Hard Disk Self 1 (303)" error.
When i try to start the windows, the windows loads and a fraction of second, everything freezes up and i am kicked out.
Kindly help me out please, because it is very imporatant for me to recover the data.
Please find below the details to my Notebook.
Notebook Model: Hp Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC

Product Configuration ID: 049D210000241210000020000

Best Regards,

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your quicky reply.
Please note that there is no effect on the Pre-boot sequence of the laptop, the laptop boots up properly; i would also like to inform you that when i check the BIOS configuration, i was able to detect my HDD, the HDD is identified.
However, when i click on start windows, the windows boot sequence starts and after some time a wallpaper appears and the mouse pointer keeps on revolving for a quite a time. After that i receive a message as:
Status : 0xC00000e9
Info: An Unexpected I/O error has occured.
Moreover i get a message as "Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer"
"This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as an hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing". Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer."
Kindly let me know what can be done, so that i can recover that data.

  • HP Pavilion g6-2230ew Start-Up Test and Hard Disk Short DST: Failed

    Hello community,
As you can see, my notebook model is HP Pavilion g6-2230ew.
I bought it one year ago, and it keeps freezing and hangs for about few months.
I've searched what i could do and I did a Start-Up Test to check if its the hard disk problem.
The result was that everything passed, but hard disk short DST failed.
I saw replies for similiar problem with other HP notebooks and solution was a new hard disk.
My warranty is still actual, but I want to ask if there is any other solution than exchanging my hard disk, and if that's what I should do - how long I would have to wait for such service.
    Looking for reply.

Well the hard drive has to be replaced and it sounds like it is overdue. The ordinary means to do that under warranty is to send the laptop to a Service Center. We have heard that, sometimes, when the moon is full and the Call Center rep is in a good mood, they will send you a hard drive, charge your credit card 2 or 3 times what it is worth at retail and refund when you return the defective drive. But that is purely a matter of grace and they do not have to do that. Turn around time varies all over the map from 3 working days to a couple weeks or more and there is no way to predict. A hard drive replacement should fall at the low end of that range since they should always have hard drives for replacement and it is a very easy fix.
On hard drive replacement under warranty, given that a new hard drive is well less than $100, I might be tempted not to lose 4 or 5 days' use of my laptop and come out of pocket myself but that's me and your cost/benefit analysis could be different and likely is.
They will return it to you restored to factory specs and will make no effort to preserve any of your data. When I do send them in for repair I always try to image the drive, if it is not too dead.

    Hi,
The 24 character error code for the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the 'freezing' issue you mention.
As your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

  • Hard Disk DST Short Failed

    Hi,
I have Netbook, HP Mini 210-4000
                                   Product Number, A9R56PA#UUF
Here is what happened. Last month, my hard disk failed. It was still covered by the warranty so I let them check my netbook. They replaced my Hard Disk. Only Windows 7 Starter was installed, no HP softwares included. Last friday, I restored it to its factory program using the recovery disk and it was successful. A day after, when I shut down my netbook, Windows installed updates. After that update, when I tried to open it, it took forever to boot up.
I run the start-up test and is what showed up:
    Processor Check : PASSED
    Memory Test : PASSED
Hard Disk SMART Check : PASSED
Hard Disk Short DST : FAILED
    FAILURE ID : RLX7G0-61U6JE-MFPX01-60U203
    PRODUCT ID : A9R56PA#UUF

*Is there anything I can do with it? By the way, my warranty has already lapsed.
I would really appreciate you help. Thank you!

I suggest calling HP back to see if your already replaced hard drive has a warranty on it. If it does, they should replace it even if your warranty has lapsed.

What does this ID exactly mean?
I know so far that the hard disk has to be replaced. But as usual there is unsaved data to be rescued ...

Whenever the Hard Disk Short DST test fails with a 24 Digit Error Code "MC05BK-6KP7H9-MFPWW1-60VN03" that indicates that the Hard Disk Drive has failed and that requires a replacement to resolve the issue
This issue could be due to Application or driver conflicts, virus issues, file corruptions due to incompatible applications, improper shutdowns, update failures due to conflicts, sudden power surges, if notebook is dropped etc..
HP will provide a replacement Hard Disk Drive if the Notebook warranty is Active, If not you need buy a SATA Hard Disk Drive from a retail shop nearby
Please make sure you are getting at least equal capacity as the original one in order to use Recovery Disks. If you need you can buy a larger, but not smaller capacity Hard Disk Drive. For example if you have a 500GB Hard Disk Drive you can upgrade it to 750GB Hard Disk Drive but not 320GB Hard Disk Drive
Please try the below shown troubleshooting steps once:
Step 01. Remove the battery and unplug the AC/Power Adapter
Step 02. Press and hold the Power button for more than 30 Seconds
Step 03. Plug in the AC/Power Adapter (leave the Battery out for now)
Step 04. Press the Power button and check if the Unit works normal
If the above mentioned steps does not help, then you can try reseating the Hard Drive on your Notebook
If the issue persists again please Contact HP if your HP Notebook is under warranty, HP would replace the Hard Disk Drive and provide you a Recovery media to restore factory operating system after replacement (if you've not yet created Recovery Discs/USB Media)
Note: Back up all the personal data to an external drive if it's possible. Otherwise you could connect the failed HDD via SATA to USB adapter with another PC or same PC after replacement of HDD & re-installation of OS and try copying /recovering the files. • Hard disk Short DST: Failed, HP Pavilion g6-2213so

We own a notebook HP Pavillion g6-2213so, windows 8 and is about 5-6 months old still on waranty.
Yesterday the screen just went blank, but i thought it wasprobably hibernating or something.
Now when i try to boot it, the message it gives is wait automatic system recovery.
    But since it did this for to long i tried a system check using the start up test and this is what it showed me;
    Processor check : passed
    Memeory test: passed
    Hard disk smart checkassed
    Hard disk short DST check:failed
    Failure ID: GSJ88F-6GW6N0-MFPX1F-60XH03
    Product ID:C4M01EA#UUW
Just to note, i mid may this laptop developed a hard disk problem and we have just recently recieved a new hard disk from The HP support team on our waranty, so this hard disk is barely a month old and this is happening, ineed your help HP.
    Thanks

Try everything on this list first.
If no success, then Contact HP.
The hard disk is an item that can be replaced by the owner. The hard disk is covered under warranty and will be sent at no cost to you.
Locate your recovery disk set or usb recovery media so you will have it ready to use when the new hard disk arrives. You will need it to perform a factory image recovery that will return your notebook to the state it was in when delivered.
If you did not create recovery media you will have to purchase a set from HP or an HP partner.

  • Pavilion dv6z-7000 hard disk short DST failed

I bought this HP Pavilion dv6z-7000 notebook (windows 7 64-bit) in the middle of September as a gift for my cousin who's in China. After I received my computer I found it was always not responding (e.g. When I clicked "my computer", it freezed and showed "not responding" for ~10min). As I was going back to China and there's no time to mail it back to HP for reparing, I reinstalled the system (windows 7 64bit) by myself and it looks fine for a couple of days. But when I came to China and was going to give it to my cousin, it showed the same problem again. Yesterday it got even worse -- it was unable to shut down or start windows.
When I did HP F1 start up tests this morning, each test (Start-up, Run-in, Tuneup, Hard Disk)  failed at Hard Disk Short DST:
    Failure ID: M4GG6W-67V68K-QFPK1F-60QG03,
    Product ID: A3G60AV
I'm wondering whether HP has some service center in China that can repair it for free? Or do I need to bring it back to the US?

    Hi
Incase you have a Global warranty you can get it fixed in China or else you can call HP Technical support and inform the same but the Part will be delivered only to US. The best for you will be to call HP Technical support and check the warranty and then decide.
Let us know how it goes!

  • HDD replaced with SSDHDD & Drive Self Test failed hardware scan by LSC

    Hello! Happy new year!
I bought a new SDDHDD instead of the HDD that came with the laptop when I bought it because it was faulty.
I want to make sure that the new drive isn't faulty when running the hardware scan using Lenovo Solution Center (LSC), I got this result code: WHD01V000-HK9V1D - Warning for the SMART Drive Self Test. However I tried testing using HD Sentinel and SeaTools but they showed no errors.
Note: I'm taking LSC seriously because it showed warnings then critical alerts before my first HDD failed so I don't want to ignore it.
Please let me know what it means and if I should worry or how to fix the problem? Or does it simply not support SDD?
Thanks for reading this long message! (Sorry)

    Hi, quocphong
It sounds like the hard drive is running okay overall, but it has some bad sectors in it. You will not be able to read or write to these sectors. That being said, I would first try running a ChkDsk on the hard drive and see if any of the sectors can be repaired. To run a ChkDsk, go to Computer and right-click on the C: drive and select Properties. Navigate to the Tools tab and select the box that says Check now... This should scan the drive for errors and attempt to fix them if possible. The test can take a while, so I would do it when you will not need access to your computer.
If the test is not able to fix the errors, then I would contact Lenovo at 120-11072 (Toll Free) or +(84) 8 3521 8000 (Standard Charges Apply) and discuss a hard drive replacement with them. As for Windows, you will need to ask for recovery discs as well. Lastly, I would backup everything on the current hard drive so that it is not lost.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • Is my Hard Disk about to fail?

I am scared that there is something seriously wrong with my Hard disk or something because the following keeps happening:
I was trying to get a picture from my pictures folder to show on my wife’s Desktop (same Mac). I copied the .jpg file to the shared folder. Then under her login tried to set it as the desktop image. Preferences kept quitting unexpectedly and when I try to open the file I get the above message. Back under my login the picture opens fine in preview. Under my wife’s login it will not even import into iPhoto. I have tried moving the file to other locations.
Eventually the only way I could get the picture into my wife’s folders was to e-mail it.
    Can anyone help?

You need to repair permissions, go to user Applications>Utilities> Disk Utility and repair permissions as each user.
Then get info on the picture and make rue it's unlocked so you both can access it,
    please post back,

    Hi,
If this message is coming up in a black screen.
Then the harddrive in the system is about to go bad or already bad.
If you are able to boot to windows, FIRST BACKUP DATA.
Also run a startup test by tapping F2 as soon as you power on the system.
The smart test is a BIOS feature in most of the computer which is designed to keep cust informed if the HDD is about to go bad. But their are instances where the SMART will only let you know that the HDD is bad only when the HDD has bad.

  • Pavilion G6-1203ey: Hard Disk Test FAILED, but can still boot into Windows

    Hello
I have HP Pavilion G6-1203ey laptop. After installing Windows (7 ultimate, 64 bit) and some drivers on it and after several restarts, it hanged at Windows logo and I had to turn it off with power button. Then after turning it on, it gave me the option to repair problems which are preventing it from starting up, from there I let it to restore the computer to an earlier restore point and after a restart the Windows was working again. After that I decided to do a hard disk check just in case.
The Hard Disk Self Test ended up with a message: Hard Disk 1 Full (305). Then I installed HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Support Environment and did hard disk from there. I chose the comprehensive test from the options, but it finished fairly quickly (in ~1 minute) with the following output:
    Testing Drive: 1
Hard Disk SMART Check : PASSED
Hard Disk Short DST : FAILED
    FAILURE ID : PTTU22-5T774L-MFPV4K-60S003
    PRODUCT ID : A5Q15EA#B1R
    Hard Disk 1
    Hard Disk Test : FAILED
    A bit more background:
The previous owner told me that the original HDD was faulty which is why he replaced it with this one last year. He said that other than that there has been no problems with the laptop. The Windows is working right now and this HDD is quite new so I would not have expected any problems with it, but the results from the previously mentioned tests seem troubling. Is there a reason to worry?
    Thanks

I read your post and looked into the failure ID that you posted regarding the failed Short DST test. That error is indicating a hard disk failure meaning that if it hasn't failed it might soon. If everything is working I would considering backing up your data on a regular basis just to be safe. You could have a local technician take a look at the hard drive to see how close it is to full failure.

There are 2 ways of running a test on your hard drive . One way is through BIOS (F10) and other is through HP System diagnostics(F2). How exactly was test initiated from your end ?
The SMART imminent failure for Hard drive is an indication that your Hard drive is on verge of failure or might fail anytime depending on usage. I would recommend you to backup your files immediately because your hard drive might die at any moment and I'm pretty sure its needs to be replaced.
Kindly check the instructions over here in order to run the test for your hard drive

  • Mini 200-4200 - Hard Disk Error

    Hello,
I have: HP Mini 200-4200, pr nr B3R47EA#ABU, System Board ID 338D, Win 7 (factory installed) ...what else.
I´m not very computer literate, first of all. And second, I´m in Nicaragua on a gap year - little resources around.
The Mini is under warranty, I bought it in Oct 2012, London, it´s been gradually slowing down, which I contributed to having maybe too much stuff on it.. Until, something happend few days ago. After turning on and thinking for few seconds, it makes a little "bing", and showes "Hard Disk Error", Please rund the Hard Disk Test in System Diagnostics.
When I do as it says, in a second (literally, with no thinking time), comes up:
    Primary Hard Disk Self Test
    Quick Test
    Hard isk 1 Quick (303)
    Primary Hard Disk Self Test
    Full test
    Hard disk 1 Full (305)
    SMART check to Exit Testing
    Hard Disk SMART Passed
So I press the Esc to exit and then comes up:
    "Hard Disk Test" Failed.
Then I did the F10 tapping in the beginning (read in one advice post) to get to Bios:
I went to Diagnostics and pressed Primary Hard Disk Self Test.  It doesn´t seem to do the test because in the same second as I press Enter, box comes with "Hard Disk 1 Quick (303)" , "ok", ...in the background I can see the Short Test Executing 0% Complete, Estimated time unknown...but I think it doesn´t do it at all. When I press the ok, nothing happens.
I´m not sure what to do. Or where is my nearest HP representative. Is there on in Managua? (or Esteli would be closer).
AND - is there a possibility to salvage any files?
Not sure if this is of any importance, when I go to the Diagnostics Log, the numbers that are listed there are 0303, 03F1, 0305. Repeating.
Please help to save my little Mini, it has been a good companion.
    Thanks,
    Maire

Thanks for the reply - I will call the local HP support (Nicaragua) tomorrow. And will post if stuff gets solved.
However - HOW CAN I SALVAGE THE INFO?
I´ve heard that warranty doesn´t cover that. But then again, if I ask a computer repairs place to do it, I risk the warranty? I´m not sure if HP allows to do it (in Lenovo the hard disk can be removed without trouble... I´m told...)
I also have additional Accidental Damage Protect Service w Pickup and Return...which I hastily did before travelling...and now I can´t remember what it covers besided "spilling the odd coffee cup" ....I can´t find any other terms and conditions other than the States version....
Any ideas how I can salvage the info?
