  • Hard disk test failed on HP Pavillion dv6-1100eo notebook

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-1100eo Entertainment Notebook PC  (P/N: NR597EA) with Vista 32-bit.  Unfortunately no warranty left in and general I have been very happy with this notebook.
However suddenly Wondows would not start up - and it did not even find Startup Recovery partition on the harddisk. As I wasn't sure if this Startup Recovery was on hard disk or not - I ordered System Recovery DVDs for this Scandinavian language version.
These disks did not work - so I figured I have probably not done my homework before ordering those disks.
Then I ran system Diagnostics (even if I have a old BIOS version F.03).  On the diagnositics - both Quick and Full Hard disk test failed during the first 1% of the scan.
Is there anything that can be done - or is the only option new hard disk? In case - what hard disk is recommended that is not too expensive - as I don't want to invest too much into a soon 3 year old notebook.
I recently bougth an external harddisk (1 TB) based on USB connection. Can that be used bypassing internal HD. In this way I would increase HD capacity and not invest anymore into this notebook - since I already have the recovery DVDs
It is probably only a time question before I will buy a new HP notebook - that is why I don't want any long permanent fix of this problem.

    Hi,
Sorry to say, but you won't be able to install or boot Vista from the external HDD, so if you need to get the notebook working, you're going to have to replace the internal drive.
The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.
    500Gb Hard Drive
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 57 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive.

  • Hard disk is failing; trying to save files

Sorry if this is kind of long. Booted up the system off the Mac OS X after getting startup errors. Ran Disk Utility and it could not verify or repair the hard disk. S.M.A.R.T. status reads "failing" in red. My best guess it that the hard drive is on it's way out. Tried to save my files by making and image file of the hard disk and putting it on an external drive, but I got an error and it wouldn't save. Put the system in Target Disk mode and tried to access the files from another Mac connected via FireWire, but it wouldn't mount on the second Mac's desktop. Checked Disk Utility and it was creating multiple images of the first Mac's hard disk and failed to mount. Is there any other way to retrieve the files from the failing hard drive?

Anybody wanna tackle this? Also, I meant to say I "booted up off the Mac OS X disc" in the beginning. I'd appreciate any assistance.

  • My hard disk drive failed.  How do I deactivate that copy?

My hard disk drive failed.  The genius at The Apple Store checked it out and said it was dead.  Apple sold me another drive with just the operating system on it.  Now when I installed Photoshop CS6, I am told that this is my second copy.  How do I deactivate the copy on the failed disk drive.  I was able to copy most of my data files from the drive.  I do not know if the copy of Photoshop on that drive still works or not.  What should I do?

  • Pavilion G6-1203ey: Hard Disk Test FAILED, but can still boot into Windows

    Hello
I have HP Pavilion G6-1203ey laptop. After installing Windows (7 ultimate, 64 bit) and some drivers on it and after several restarts, it hanged at Windows logo and I had to turn it off with power button. Then after turning it on, it gave me the option to repair problems which are preventing it from starting up, from there I let it to restore the computer to an earlier restore point and after a restart the Windows was working again. After that I decided to do a hard disk check just in case.
The Hard Disk Self Test ended up with a message: Hard Disk 1 Full (305). Then I installed HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Support Environment and did hard disk from there. I chose the comprehensive test from the options, but it finished fairly quickly (in ~1 minute) with the following output:
    Testing Drive: 1
Hard Disk SMART Check : PASSED
Hard Disk Short DST : FAILED
    FAILURE ID : PTTU22-5T774L-MFPV4K-60S003
    PRODUCT ID : A5Q15EA#B1R
    Hard Disk 1
    Hard Disk Test : FAILED
    A bit more background:
The previous owner told me that the original HDD was faulty which is why he replaced it with this one last year. He said that other than that there has been no problems with the laptop. The Windows is working right now and this HDD is quite new so I would not have expected any problems with it, but the results from the previously mentioned tests seem troubling. Is there a reason to worry?
    Thanks

    Hi Alnuir,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I read your post and looked into the failure ID that you posted regarding the failed Short DST test. That error is indicating a hard disk failure meaning that if it hasn't failed it might soon. If everything is working I would considering backing up your data on a regular basis just to be safe. You could have a local technician take a look at the hard drive to see how close it is to full failure.

  • Hard disk drive failed

My Hp probook 4430 series is telling me the hard disk drive failed but everything else passed. I have tried using the recovery disk that came with the laptop to no avail. please help . I am on windows 7 . The serial number is cnu2220jpq. product number h2c39us#aba

You can't install Windows to a bad drive. If the diagnostic is saying the disk has failed then you have to believe it. The hard drive needs to be replaced. Here is a link to the Service Manual:
    Manual
See Page 53. Post back if you need help with software migration/reinstallation or selecting/buying a replacement drive. It will be between $50 and 100 US depending on size and speed.

  • My external hard disk not working properly in my macbook pro . anyone help me . its seagate  hard disk

My external hard disk not working properly in my macbook pro . anyone help me . its seagate  hard disk

You need to get some software that allows your Mac to read and write to the NTFS disk.  There's a whole bunch of stuff out there, but this program has a good review, and you can try it for free.  I would move everything off of your external drive, reformat it into Mac OSX extended, and use it for your Mac.  You don't need NTFS anymore, unless you still have a Windows computer that needs it.

  • Prem Pro cs3 causes windows 7/ 64 to become corrupt

Having installed prem pro cs3 in win 7/64, I get frequent crashes and eventually windows reports that windows explorer is unable to start. This means that win cannot start or if already running cannot access anything. Can only be cured by a new installation of windows.have repeated this process several times with Prem the only program installed. Might work ok for a few days then it starts all over again. Any ideas anyone? Hve tried restore and repair etc. No good.

  • Encore in Prem pro CS3

Have spent a while looking how to get encore to work in my downloaded trial copy of Prem pro CS3
    I have put in markers
when I go to export Encore is light greyed out and not in dark grey am I missing something??

I don't have the link handy, but the last time someone asked about this I went to the download page and then looked at the FAQ
There are SEVERAL steps to take to convert the PPro3 trial to real software... part of which is not just download "some codec stuff" but actually downloading AND installing Encore3 (and OnLocation?)
So... you need to download AND install more software, not just codecs

  • Hard disk test failed-Hard disk 1 quick (303) for my HP mini 110-3700ca PC.

    Operation system Windows 7 32-bit.
After a tragic accidental "bump" on the table (I didn't even think it's that serious..), the computer start to slow down significantly, and when I tried to restart it, it shows:
    Windows Error Recovery
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
It recommend me to Launch Startup Repair, but since HP mini doesn't have a CD-Rom... It shows error status: 0xc0000225.
It's kind of obvious that the bumping might damaged the hard disk, so I tried to run hard disk check, and "hard disk 1 quick (303)" was all I got.
I've put a lot of files on my netbook, and I'm quite desperate to see it working again. Please help!!

    Hi,
Well, that's very sad, could be due to physical damage too. Anyway, please do a HDD self test:
    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Keep tapping the F10 key when the HP logo appears. This will take you to Bios Setup Utility.
    3. Select the Diagnostic tab.
    4. Select the "hard drive self test" option and press enter to perform the test.
Note: This test takes at least 40 minutes (with luck)
Pass - The hard drive is not damaged, you can recover data.
Fail - the hard drive is damaged and may need to be replaced, no choice.
    Regards.

  • Hard disk is failing?

My hard disk in my 3 year old 27" iMac has been chattering  lot - essentially all the time - even though nothing seems to be running.  I downloaded SMART Utility for Mac and ran it it.  It says my hard drive is failing.   It shows 61 Reallocated Bad Sectors.  How reliable is this?  Should I bring this in to the Apple store?

    Hi,
    Yes.
You probalby need to bring it to the Apple Store. And try to make a time machine backup asap on an external device.

  • HP Envy 17, Win 7 64 Bit - How do I re-install windows when the old hard disk has failed?

The laptop wont start up and the hard disk fails the diagnostic start-up tests. Restore doesn't work and taking the hard disk out the laptop & connecting to my desktop I can't access the recovery partition. The laptop is out of warranty.
I have a replacement disk drive but as I have no install disks and the recovery partition can't be accessed how do I reinstall the OEM win 7 on the new hard disk?
    Any help would be appreciated.

If the complete 25 character windows activation key is visible on the Microsoft Windows COA on your notebook, you can download an identical iso file from here and install Windows.
Download the drivers from the HP web support portal for your notebook. Put them on a usb flashdisk (thumbdrive) for ease of installation.
Use the Microsoft Windows  7 USD\DVD download tool and a 4GB usb flashdisk (thumbdrive) for the fastest and most reliable means of installing Windows.
This way you can have your laptop in a useable state while you wait for your ordered recovery disk set.
    Best regards,

  • Ipod plugged to external hub / Hard disk = system crashed !!

Hello I have an external disk with a hub (minipartner from Macway) it seems that it isn't possible to plugged it & using Itunes (in despite that under the explorer I can see my ipod)
I tried few times & windows crased down each time, it's boring because I have only a 4 pins firewire used for that external disk, otherwise I have a pc card as well but it put extra wire again on my desk which contains already many things so anybody have a good experience with that configuration. Otherwise i had no success as well to put my the itunes library on the external disk, i have some errors messages each times during synchronisation......
    Thanks for any suggestion !

Any hooks in particular? I don't know which hook to add other then the 'blocks' hook, which is there already:
HOOKS="base udev autodetect modconf block filesystems keyboard fsck"
Also, I don't think that could be the problem since loading the initramfs image takes place after choosing something from the Grub Menu.  That menu never appears, I just get "welcome to grub!" with a blinking cursor underneath.
I did add "insmod usbms" in grub.cfg,  but that didn't change anything.
What strikes me as odd is that in grub.cfg, the disk is referred to as "hd1", where I think it could just as well be "hd0" if that's the first hard disk the BIOS boots from. But I'm not sure if that really matters since the search is done with the UUID.
Another thing I tested earlier:  I dd 'd the Arch Live image to the external usb HDD, and then it boots fine...

  • Hard disk drive fail

    Hello everyone,
I recently sold my Creative Zen Touch to someone on Ebay. It was in perfect working order when I dropped it off to him locally. Two days after selling it to him, I got a call saying the player was broken. The player froze on him, and all the options in recovery mode resulted in a "hard disk problem" error message. He also said he could hear a faint clicking sound coming from the player. The problem arose from when he deleted my 5gb of songs on it, then downloaded about 5gb of his songs.
Q: Is it possible to have a corrupt hard disk dri've that will work unless you use to almost full capacity?
Q2: The clicking sound means there must be some mechanical fault with the player. Is it possible for this to happen without dropping it's
I ask these questions because im trying to determine whether the player has always been faulty, or if he broke it himself and now is trying to get his money back...
    any advice will be appreciated!

. It's possible, but you wouldn't get this type of hard disk problem I don't think. You would just have trouble when copying data over.
    2. Yes, but dropping it can also cause the problem. There's no way to be sure.
Unfortunately it's bad luck all round as it sounds like the player has developed a fault during the sale.
