Hard Disks column either blank or showing zero drives

The Hard Disks column in the SCE 2010 console is either showing 0 - OK on some of the clients is it monitoring or in the servers group some of the servers have nothing at all displayed in the Hard Disks column. There are also a could of servers showing 0 - OK as well.
Some clients and some servers show the correct number of Hard Disks and if any are over the 50% or 75% thresholds, for example, this is shown in the column as well.
The machines I am monitoring are running a variety of Windows versions and are from a variety of hardware vendors.
I can't see a pattern to be honest. For example, I have some PowerEdge M600 blades and one shows "1 -1 > 50%", another shows "0 - OK" while a third is blank in the Hard Disks column. A PowerEdge 6650 is also blank. They're not exactly obscure hardware kit.
If there's any more info or investigation you would like, let me know.

Some background on the inventory collection in Essentials.
The majority of inventory information, including hard disk information is collected by the Windows Update agent and forwarded to the Essentials server. If the Windows Update agent is not reporting back information then most of the inventory information will not display. The exception is Asset Tag and BIOS Serial number - this inventory information comes from the Monitoring (Ops Mgr) agent.
You can check the basic health of the agents used by Essentials by selecting a computer in in the Computers workspace and then in the preview pane at the bottom, in the Health section click on the link to the right of the word Agents. This will open the Health Explorer window.
You will see that the Health Explorer shows the health for the 3 agents used by Essentials:
OpsMgr Agent (for monitoring)
Windows Update (for updates, software deployment and inventory)
Virtual Machine Manager (for virtualization on virtual machine hosts)
The Health Explorer will automatically expand items in the tree that don't have a Healthy state.
In this case, I'm expecting that under the Availability node, the Windows Update Agent will have a warning icon next to one of the 4 monitors used to determine it's health.
The 4 things being checked for are:
Agent Configuration
This checks the group policy to point the Windows Update agent to the Essentials server is in effect and the computer has been added to the correct security groups in Active Directory
Agent Connection
This checks if the Windows Update agent has connected to the Essentials server in the last 24 hours
Proxy Configuration
This checks that makes sure that if a proxy is being used
Service State
This checks that the Windows Update service is running on the comptuer
The Resolutions section of the Knowledge tab for each of the monitors provides some initial troubleshooting steps. Additional troubleshooting can be done by looking at the windowsupdate.log on the computer.

  • Hp dv4-2112tu no boot no display , ram and hard disk are ok and checked, shows caps num led blinking

    Hello Sir/Madam,
    I have HP DV4-2112TU
My laptop doesn’t boot completely and shows blank black display. CPU fan running normally and hard disk rotating normally.
Battery charging is ok and charging-power led glows normally. Caps lock and Num lock led flashes 3 times and then wait for one second and then flash again and so on. Laptop is stucked in booting process.
I have checked both of my RAMs and Hard Disk in Another Laptop. All are working fine and shows no issues.
I have also checked my laptop installing new RAM in both ports (simultaneously) and a new Hard Disk but Laptop shows same problem - no display no boot.
I showed my laptop at an authorised HP Service Centre... they told me that the problem is related to my Hard Disk....But this is wrong Because a faulty hard disk is never cause no display and no boot and even no BIOS POST message. They told me wrong cause of fault because I have checked Hard Disk and it is OK.
Can anyone tell me what are the issues related to my Laptop..... …..
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
The 3 blink pattern does correspond to issues with the memory modules, see the document below:
Computer Does Not Start and Emits an LED or Beep Code
Since it sounds like you've done everything possible to eliminate the memory modules themselves as the source of the problem.  Based on your description, I'd agree that the problem is probably not the Hard Drive.  Which unfortunately leaves us with a problem with the Motherboard as the only component that might be implicated and that hasn't been changed out yet.  It could be as simple as a bad connector, or something less easy to detect in the logic on the board, but either way, it seems like it would need to go back to a service center for repair.

  • Retrieve data from a Hard Disk That was connected to the optical Drive of Mac Book pro

    Hi Experts
I have been using a Mac Book pro from 2011 (Early 2011 Model), In the mid of 2012 I have planned to upgrade, and bought a 240 GB SSD and 16 GB ram from OWC, Installed successfully and bought another 750 GB WD Sata Disk and connected it to the Optical Drive Bay of the Laptop, using the optical drive as an external device now
I was using the SSD as the main disk for all the applications and OS itself, and tranferred all the user library (iTunes Library, iPhoto Library, Documents etc..) to the additinal 750 SATA Disk,
Last week the Mag Safe cable has been worn out and seperated completely from the adapter, I tried soldering the cable again and it was working for two days, third day The machine stopped charging and it was working until the battery run out of charge,
Now I have bought a new Mag Safe Charger for 108 Singapore Dollars and it wont charge, read in iFixit Forums to change the Mag Safe DC in Board, so found a new part in singapore and replaced DC in Board myself, after doing this when I connected the new mag safe adapter, it fired the cpu fan for two second, I was able to see the green light the adapter and it stopped again and the green light wont lit up now
Removed the logic board from Laptop completely and tried connecting the Mag Safe Adapter I can see the green light,
So with all the above details, Iam confused whether its the Logic Board or the Battery that is giving me issue, I can find out the problem by contacting a Authorised service centre, but Iam thinking whether its is worth to repair it or buy a New Mac Book Pro ?, Because if I need to change the logic Board need to spend 900 Dollars + 100 dollar service charge
So I was trying to remove the 750 GB WD Sata Disk to see if I can get the data back so I can buy a new Laptop without worrying,
The real issue now is when I connect the 750 WD Disk using a sata to usb converter cable to my official macbook, it says the connected USB device is drawing more power than expected and it wont even detect the hard disk, Iam wondering why it cannot detect the hard disk even in the disk utility, is there any way to get the data back from the 750 GB WD Sata disk (which was connected to the Optical Drive Bay)
Your expert advice is much appreciated
    Regards
    Vinodh

    Welcome to the discussions!
It sounds as if your disk was not correctly formatted to work with the Mac operating system. I suspect it was formatted in FAT32, which is primarily a Windows format. This type of format will not allow the disk to accept any files larger than 4GB. That's probably why you are seeing the crashes.
Connect the drive to your Mac and open Applications > Utilities > Airport Utility.
Click your disk on the left and click the erase tab on the right. You need to format the drive in +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+. Formatting will erase everything on the disk.
Then you could try the drive again attached to your AirPort Extreme to see if that will do what you want.

  • Folders that I copy from my Macbook to my External Hard Disk does NOT appear on any other drive that I connect the Hard disk to (TV, PC, ... etc.)

    I'm facing a bit of a problem.
Any folder I copy from my Macbook Pro to my External Hard Disk does NOT appear on any other device that I connect the Hard Disk to (TV, PC, etc).
The Hard disk format is "MS-DOS (FAT)".
The folders that are copied from Macbook appear when I connect the Hard Disk to my Macbook only, yet, the folders that I copy from a PC to the Hard Disk appear on Macbook, PC, and TV and are also available from editing from both Mac and PC.
I was advised to install "Paragon" software and I did but I'm not sure how to use it to convert the folders on the hard drive to any format that can be read on other drives or devices (NTFS or otherwise).
I'd appreciate some help. Thank you.

Hi Simon.  How is it formatted, FAT or NTFS?
I only ask as OSX will only read NTFS partitions unless you install an App such as Paragon NTFS or Tuxera NTFS.

  • 2D Column Flash Chart - Series Showing Zero Values in Chart

    Hi,
I have created a 2D Column Flash Chart - with 6 series with different coloring of bars..I have obtained the result as I wanted.
Now the problem is the distance between one series to another series is filled up with value 0.
Anybody please help me remove the 0 value in chart which is coming between series.
    Thanks
    JP

    Hello,
I guess you must have data that reflect the 0 value, no?
In your query can you do WHERE value <> 0, so they don't get taken into account or is it the purpose to keep them in?
    Thanks.

  • Is it a mistake for not upgrading the hard disk of new iMac to 1TB Fushion Drive

I have just bought a new iMac 27" in Fortress in HK for Video editing by Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5, may be After Effect later. I am thinking if I have made a mistake for not upgrading the driver to Fushion Drive. The followings are my spec:
    Intel qual core-i7 3.4 GHz
    16 GB RAM
    1TB SATA
    GTX 680 MX
Because my budget was within HKD 20,000, so I am considering if my decision for the upgrades were correct for video editing. To be honest, I really want to try Fushion Drive

I don't think it is a mistake. The Fuse Drive is a combination of both a Real SSD and a spinning mechanical hard drive. With that system if either drive fails you lose all your data.
There have been many articles on how to Make a Fuse drive, when there is both an SSD and Spinner installed in the system, and how to Break one up so you can use both drive independently, SSD and spinning drive as 2 separate drives.
The reason Apple came up with this system is for people that have no concept of how to use 2 separate disks in their systems. It allows them to still have the speed of a SSD along with the storage capacity of the large spinning hard drive without knowing how and where to store the data they have or may accumulate over the life of the system.
Also the way Apple want the user, almost Forces users, to store there files is in the User area that is located on the Boot drive. That will fill up a SSD very fast (depending on how much data the user or users have).
It does have overhead that will slow the system down compared to a system with independently accessed SSD and spinners.
Not sure what model iMac you bought as I didn't think the newest 27 inchers were out yet. But you should be able to add your own SSD so you can use it for the OS and program files and store your data on the mechanical, spinning, hard drive. And you can do that for much less them what Apple charges for a SSD. You could also combine them into a Fuse drive if you like. Just do a Google search for "Make Fuse Drive".

  • MS office word (2011) will not save files on the hard disk. It will save on USB drives.  Help!

I have installed MS Office 2011 on our iMac and Macbook Air.  The program works as expected on the Macbook Air.  However, on the iMac, neither Word nor Excel will save files to the internal hard drive.  Both save files to a USB memory stick.  The error message I receive is:
This is not a valid file name.
Try one or more of the following:
    * Chech the path to make sure it was typed correctly.
    * Select a file from the list of files or folders.
I expect it is something with the file saving options, but haven't been able to sort it out.
    Help please.

Found the answer with the help of Microsoft Office for Mac telephone support.....
The name of the Mac Hard drive started with "\"
Microsoft office can't cope with that.
Renamed the hard drive without the back-slash and it works fine.

  • Want to use a Lacie External Hard Disk with Windows and Mac? Can I?...

Hi, I've just purchased a Lacie Extreme D2 external hard disk, I'm looking to use it to move film clips from my Mac G5 to my Sony Vaio laptop. I'll connect the Mac using Firewire 1 and the PC using USB 1.
I understand there is an issue with setting the compaitibility of the hard disk to either Mac or Windows format but I'm wondering if I can set it to both, so it's possible to transfer these files? The hard disk is Windows and Mac compatible but does it have to be partitioned a certain way?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alex

Format the drive as FAT or use the Mac format (HFS Extended) and install MacDrive on the PC.

  • Dv2941se hard disk no boot with error Err2Err3

On my dv2941se laptop with AMD 64 x2 TK-57,4096MB total Memory Bios versionF.26 Running Vista 64 bit home premium.
When I turn on to boot  I get the HP screen with function keys and then goes to black screen with cursor in upper left corner. When boot with esc I get  memory passed, System Bios shadowed, Videobios shadowed, ATAPI CD ROM: HL_DT_ST DVD RAM GSA-T2ON, Fixed disk 0 Samsung HM250JI, Mouse initialized, and then full black screen and Err2Err3 appears in upper left corner and that's as far as the show goes. Will not boot any further no matter how long it's on. Any key I touch will repeat this error. When I boot up with my backup CD to perform an image backup which has been done up to the point that I can't boot anymore shows on the hardware screen that my hard disk C: is full. The D: drive that has the rescue for Vista and the small X:sector for boot looks like the number of sectors has not changed. Since this is OEM Vista I have no way to access C; in order to do a file check, or reformat is out. I cannot copy my latest backup because all sectors are written and the backup bombs. Not that familiar with Vista, is there anything I can do from here? I have no idea what is on each of the included 17 "installation "disks or will the last link of emergency " restore to factory conditions" (last resort) even going to work or has my hard disk turned to toast? I was doing a Microsoft software update at the time that this happened. I am on landline so it takes hours to do an update and I just let it run overnight to load the upgrades if it is more than 5MB in size. Phone line will give me 1.96 KB/sec. Someone please let me know how deep a dilemma I am in and how to possibly dig myself free. Thanks in advance.

  • Network hard disk

I've recently transfered all my music onto a network hard disk and mapped it as a network drive. I've deleted all files from my ipod and itunes and started afresh. I started to repopulate my itunes and ipod with my music and managed to syc without any problems. However on a reboot of my system itunes is showing that certain files are no longer linked- which is strange as I haven't moved any of the files.
Any help and suggestions would be good, as its doing my head in!

That would suggest that XP is being a bit slow in connecting the drive. iTunes then can't see the drive, and effectively, the files, thus thinking they've disappeared.
Would suggest that you create a batch file (a simple text file) that contains the line:
    net use x: \\computer name\share name
(all on one line: for some reason it's being split over 2 lines) where x: is the drive letter you want to assign to the shared resource.
save the text file as mapdrive.bat and run this when XP starts
I wouldn't consider getting it to run automatically as XP hangs if it can't find the drive until it times out minutes later

There are 2 ways of running a test on your hard drive . One way is through BIOS (F10) and other is through HP System diagnostics(F2). How exactly was test initiated from your end ?
The SMART imminent failure for Hard drive is an indication that your Hard drive is on verge of failure or might fail anytime depending on usage. I would recommend you to backup your files immediately because your hard drive might die at any moment and I'm pretty sure its needs to be replaced.
Kindly check the instructions over here in order to run the test for your hard drive

  • How do i retrieve file vault protected files from an external hard disk that used to be my mbp's hard drive? the hard disk got corrupted and will no longer boot. I put it in an enclosure and attempted to copy my files but failed because of FV encryption.

This external hard disk used to serve as the main drive of my mbp. It got corrupted and the OSX would no longer load. I upgraded to a 500gb hd and used the old hd as an external drive. I tried to copy my files but i could not access them because of the filevault encryption. 110gb of hd space appears as used which means that my files are still in the drive. Is there a way to retrieve these files? thanks

According to your post, you're using Leopard, so FileVault only encrypts your user folder (unlike Lion). On the mounted external drive, in your user folder, you should see a file called username.sparsebundle, with username being your user name. Double-click that file to open it and it should prompt you for a password. Type in your password and the file will mount as a volume in Finder. You should be able to copy all of your files over.

  • 2nd hard disk to E540

    Hi,
which hard disk adapter I need to use to put a 2nd hard disk to my new E540 (replace DVD drive)?
    I found these:
http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/gbweb/LenovoPortal/en_GB/catalog.workflow:item.detai... (ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III)
http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/gbweb/LenovoPortal/en_GB/catalog.workflow:item.detai... (ThinkPad 12.7mm Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III)
Neither one lists compatibility with E540.
So which hard drive adapter I need to use, and where can I get that (preferably in Finland/Europe)?
I have the OneLink dock, so I could use external hard drives, but I need to have also the 2nd internal HD.
