Hard drive adapter

Recently upgraded to solid state drive instead of orig Fujitsu. Now I need the adapter that allows the 2.5" drive to drop down onto the installed pins rather than be inserted horizontally.  Any idea where I can find one of these (other than on the original, which went to a far off friend)?

Hi,
You can find many shapes and sizes around any normal Computer shop, just come to see what do you want. Here are few of them:
  https://www.google.com.au/search?q=2.5+enclosure&hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENAU282&prmd=imvns&source=univ&tb...
My suggestion: buy a enclosure with USB 3.0 now, few dollars more, but better for long run.
Regards.

  • Is there a way to access my iTunes Library, which is stored on a (PC) External Hard Drive, on a MacBook Air (through an Apricorn Universal Hard Drive Adapter), without transferring the music files off of the external hard drive?

Is there a way to access my iTunes Library, which is stored on a (PC) External Hard Drive, on a MacBook Air (through an Apricorn Universal Hard Drive Adapter), without transferring the music files off of the external hard drive?
In other words, because the MacBook Air only has 120 gbs of hard drive space & my old hard drive, from a Lenovo, has 500 gbs of hard drive space (and I have over 120 gbs of music), I’m looking to manage my iTunes music from the external hard drive permanently. Upon attempting to access the iTunes library held on the external hard drive the following message comes up: “The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file”.  Is there a way to get around this?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

You will have to engage a split library which means you will have to start answering questions on this forum because you will need to learn a lot about how iTunes works in order not that have a big mess at the end of it all.  It also won't be easy when the time comes to relocate it all to different drives.
You can go to advanced preferences and turn off organize media and copy to items to media folder when adding items to library.  Next read about how to selectively consolidate items to the external drive.

"...selected the new tracks directly in iTunes, Control-clicked on the selection, and saw that now you can consolidate selected items." - http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20090919000326840
Remember that when you start iTunes without the external drive turned on iTunes will present you with a bunch of broken links.  If you have automatic downloads enabled with iCloud you may have to turn that off to prevent iTunes from repopulating your drive trying to deal with those "missing" tracks.
If you add tracks in bunches to iTunes and want them to go to different media folders you will need to either add them by holding down the option key while dragging if the desired media folder is not the one set in preferences, or by changing the media folder in preferences.  Changing media folder preferences only applies to new files added, not old ones.
Okay, I am going to stop typing because you might just reply to me, "Oh, okay, forget it," and I don't need the exercise.

  • 43N3412 (Hard Drive Adapter III) vs 43R1980 (Hard Drive Adapter II)

    Hi,
I can buy 2nd version of hard drive adapter. It's specifications are not avaible on Lenovo website. What are the differences between II and III version? I want to use it on T400 with SSD.

What do you have mounted in the ThinkPad 12.7mm Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III  and how is the drive secured?
I found that the unit requires the HDD drive tray + the rubber rails for an HDD or SSD to be mounted properly. The Newmodeus UltraBay caddy has none of those requirements. The older 9.5mm UltraBay caddy only required the drive tray with the screws attached to the drive to keep things secure.
    Thanks for the response.

  • Hard drive adapter for the slim bay

I just got a Portege r835-p56x laptop, and have no use for the optical bay. Putting an optical drive in a laptop makes no sense to me... its like putting a 1.44" floppy in a desktop. I'd like to put a 2nd hard drive in there.
I replaced the 640gb drive that came with the laptop with an SSD... making the laptop much faster... but short on storage space. So it seems perfect to be able to swap the optical SATA drive with the SATA hard drive.
I've read that the connections are different sizes however, and the hard drive would also need to be securely set in there as to reduce vibration. So I went looking for a kit. Apparently Toshiba used to make one, but it was discontinued in 2006. The part was called "Toshiba Ultra Slim Bay HDD ADapter", model # PA3408U-2ETC.
Does anyone have any idea if that part might still fit the newer drive bays?

  • Looking for a replacement m2010us hard drive adapter

    Hello all,
I have a mostly intact Compaq m2010us, sans HDD caddy/adapter. I searched a little online, and found a few different adapters being described as the proper one. Is there still a way to purchase one through HP or equivelent source? Just trying to fix and polish this up and donate it to a student in need.
    Thank you,
    -J

Seagate is recommended due to the 5 year warranty, though other manufacturer's are good and work well and usually offers 3 year warranties. As was said above, any SATA drive will work, whether it's 150 or 300, though the laptop only will run at 150 speed.
I recommend getting a 7200rpm drive with as much cache as possible. A lot of newer drives are offering 16MB caches which show a strong lead in performance over other 7200rpm drives.
    For instance:
    * The Seagate ST9200420AS (200GB, 7200 rpm, 16MB, SATA 300, 5 yr warranty)
    * The Hitachi Travelstar 7k200 (200GM, 7200 rpm, 16MB, SATA 150, 3 yr warranty)
The difference between these two is the SATA version, with the Seagate running a faster version of SATA which will not be taken advantage of by the MacBook, however future models or purchases by you may in fact use SATA 300 so it may be a good purchase if you plan to swap it during future upgrades. Further the 5 year warranty over 3 years is nice.
The recommendations above are if you're looking for a lot of storage with maximum performance. If you simply want a large drive with average or stock performance consider the HITACHI Travelstar 5K250 (250GB).

  • SATA Hard Drive Adapter

    Hello,
I have the SATA HDD Bay Adapter (40Y8725).  Should I buy a caddy of some sort to protect the disk before inserting it into the bay.
    Thanks

    Hmm..
Awfully good questions. I couldn't tell you the specs on transfer speeds or bus speeds involved ...  Keep in mind that the X6x and the T6x accept both ultrabay adapter types - the IDE and the SATA drive versions (two different ultrabay devices). The mainboard/ultrabay connector on both ultrabay version caddies are the same and I remember reading in some tech papers that the mainboard/ultrabay connection is made by some derivative of USB...
I'll have to test the speeds and post more with results later.
    Steve
    **EDIT**
Right well, first off, I can't pretend I'm any kind of expert on this question but doing more research it turns out the ultrabay adapter hooks up as an "ATA/ATAPI" drive - can't say what the rated transfer rate is on such a connection.
Performed a quick test using a Hitachi Travelstar 7K60 (60GB 7200rpm) ATA-100 (100MB/s buffer-to-host transfer rate) stuffed in an ultrabay IDE device hooked up to my X61 in the X6 ultrabase (lots of room for transfer rate loss).
Resulting transfer speed ratings of 88.6MB/s (using HDTach) so there's some loss, but it's not bad! Tried the same drive via external USB enclosure (Ultra brand) and I get 77.8MB/s transfer rate, using same program, so... more of a bottleneck there.
Can't give you any test results of the drive as a primary device because it's not SATA (X61 only takes SATA/2 drives) and I don't have the SATA ultrabay adaptor to test a SATA drive.

  • My HP Elitebook 8530w is toast, but my hard drive is fine. To save my data, I would like to learn

My HP Elitebook 8530w is toast, but the hard drive is fine. To save my data, I would like to learn
all the HP models which can accept this same drive, so I can start hunting for a suitable used one. It probably won't be the elitebook, that laptop seems kinda rare. So I'm hoping that other models will accept the same drive. The hard drive model has a really long number - Hitachi HTS723216L9A360. Does anyone know which hp models are compatible with this hard drive? Thanks.

Notebook hard drives are pretty much the same in recent years, yours is SATA interface, much older notebooks used IDE-PATA and are not interchangeable.
Installing it in a different notbook that has different hardware may not work so good, most of the time windows will not load properly or at all, you can buy a usb to hard drive adapter and connect it to the hard drive after you remove it, then connect the drive using the adapter to any other PC with a usb port, then you will be able to see you data on that hard drive using Windows explorer

  • Transfer data from laptop hard drive

My laptop dv6910us will no longer boot up. How do I transfer the data on the removed hard disk to my new laptop. I have been told the hard disk is "proprietary" so the normal usb adapters that connect directly to the hard drive to transfer data will not connect to mine. Pls help!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

It is not IDE it is the normal dv6500 and higher hard drive adapter. As stated in the first post if you remove the extra plastic piece...voila! an ordinary SATA laptop drive. It looks like it is part of the drive but I "garantee" if you pull it will come off.

  • Retrieving Data from my fried I Mac G5's Hard Drive

I have an early model I Mac G5 that will no longer power on due to problems with the logic board. • How to add a second hard drive in a T42

I have a T42 with a DVD/CD R/W. My current hard drive is only 40GB and it is running Windows XP Service Pack 3. I would like to install a second hard drive for extra storage capacity. What do you recommend for an extra hard drive and can it be installed in place of the removable DVD/CD drive? Since the currently installed DVD drive is using the UltraBay, I would think that just removing it and installing the additional hard drive in the UltraBay should be possible. Please advise. Thank you in advance.

  • "2nd Hard Drive" Access by ThinkVantage Back Up Now

I have an X61 with which I am basically very happy. I do have one or two frustrations:
I purchased a Lenovo Docking Station with the hard-drive adapter. I installed a WD-250GB HD. Windows recognizes it, I have even installed programs successfully on it. However, "Back-up Now" under the ThinkVantage system can't find it.
    Thanks for any help.
    DEW

    oooh  super easy
if your HD doesnt show on desktop...... go to FINDER  > PREFERENCES > General > then check "hard disks" and "external disks"
now your new HD will show on your desktop
If your new HD is empty, .....format it in disk utility under "ERASE" for MAC OSX Extended journaled
then double click on your HD on your desktop and drag and drop folders pics etc whatever INTO your new HD
se below pic on where to go for formatting your new HD (IF its empty of data!)

  • Some more details about hard drives with a T410s

    Hi all,
So, needless to say, my T410s uses a 100 GB 1.8" Internal hard drive.  The 1.8" drives are seeming to be harder find and more expensive by the day.  I have recently purchased and installed the ultrabay hard drive adapter so I now have some questions about it's use:
    - My 1.8" internal has 2.5 GB Free (Yikes!)
    - Does anyone have any reccomendations as to the how to best put the new ultra bay drive to use? i.e. Transfer program files to run from it, boot from it...etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    - Patrick

I'd consider imaging everything over to the bigger drive and just removing the 1.8". One drive is better on power consumption than two, of course.
Consider enabling NTFS compression on the drive too; it's basically disk space for free.

  • Unique Hard Drive Crash - But Hard drive good

I have a unique problem. My Hard Drive crashed. But the reason why is because I ran out of space. I downloaded a file that when expanded took the rest of the space on the hard drive and kept expanding til it crashed. When I restarted, The screen gets to the grey apple logo then crashes again. And it does it every time. I took it out and used a USB Hard Drive adapter to try and see if it mounts on another computer to delete the files off of it it crashes every other computer as well when it tries to mount the hard drive. I logged into single user mode and did a Fsck and it said the hard drive is fine. but it is set to Read Only so I can't delete the files off of it in single user mode because its set to read only. I can see all of my files in single user mode but everytime I type rm to delete the files it refuses and says its a read only drive. I guess my question is how do I get it to mount so I can repair it using disk warrior or the disk utility? Is there a single user command line I can use to change it to read and write on the Hard Drive so I can delete the files.

Steve, yes you clone the backup back to the original, but only if the original can not be repaired. And yes, you just swap drives if that is easier for you.
I may have been a little to brief in my instruction above on repair.
Anyway once you bootup from the install CD (C key held down) choose your drive in the left column then select First Aid, now run the Repair Disk, if it does not repair run it again. Now select the startup volume (with the OS) and run the Repair Permissions, quit Disk Utility.
If Disk Utility is able to repair the disk it should now be bootable and you can select it in the Change Startup Disk, if not you need to either exchange the drives or Erase (Re-initialize) the internal and then clone the OS from the external drive.
If you can see the external as a bootable volume when you select Change Startup Drives from the install CD then it is bootable. However if you do not see it as a bootable volume then it is not bootable.

  • Lenovo T410s ultrabay not powering hard drive properly?

Hello, I got a Lenovo T410s which I have been buying parts for here and there, and since I can't afford an msata SSD, I got an ultrabay hard drive adapter off ebay.
The problem is, for some reason it is not powering up the hard drive properly. I beleive it worked a couple tims using a 320gb seagate drive, I just purchased a 1TB hitachi drive, and it start to power up then power to it cuts off.
I set the CD performance to high and it did not fix anything, what is going on?
This is the one I bought. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-9-5mm-SATA-Optical-Bay-HDD-Hard-Disk-Adapter-Caddy-Lenovo-T410s-T420s-T43...

Ok, I tried something else, I have a 90w power supply, and a 66w power supply (for the x200 I have, though the x200 works fine on either). It always seemed to work on the 66w, and it was on and off on the 90 watt, so I swapped where I have them, it's currently on the 65 watt and it worked fine from the get go.
I have to see if anything changes, but it seems to be working, I don't get how the power supply is affecting it though, unless since it is older, maybe it is noisier and somehow that is messing it up? It doesn't make any sense to me, I wish I had an oscilliscope to look at the power coming out of each.
Like I said no guarantee, but it always worked with the 65w, so something is strange with the other one. IT did have a tendency to heat up a fair bit.
