Hard drive compatibility q?

My pb's hard drive died and I am going to do the replacement myself. I am a little bit confused on the compatibility though. I'd like to get a 7200 rpm drive and I know that SATA drives won't work. Looking at newegg.com, there are two interfaces ATA-6, and IDE Ultra ATA-100. Which one of these will work? I looked at a specs page and it says my drive is ATA-100. The one I want to purchase is under ATA-6 and is:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822146046
I also looked at OWC (macsales.com) and after inputting my model of PB, one of the models which is apparently compatible appears to be the same as at newegg but 13+shipping more expensive:

thanks in advance!

The Hitachi drive you are contemplating will be fine, though you could save yourself a little money by going for a 5400RPM drive if you are not really going to make the most of the 7200RPM's speed with disk intensive applications.

  • HARD DRIVE COMPATIBILITY

I have a HP G7000, the hard drive recently stopped working (out of warranty), and I need to replace it -__-
I was wondering, what the MAXIMUM Compatibility was for the laptop?
It currently has a 120GB (BROKE)... I was wondering if it could go up to 1TB?? Or would it not support that memory capacity?
    Thanks
    P.S.
I get the message 'NO BOOTABLE DEVICE--INSERT BOOT DISK AND PRESS ANY KEY'
I have used a hardrive reader, but it doesn't seem to read the disk (FORMAT??)

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Advanced_Mini_Dock states that the dock from the z60t is compatable with the T400/500.  I am not sure about compatability with the T410/510.
The hard drive should be able to boot assuming you do not have any security turned on, however keep in mind XP is very finicky when it comes to hardware being changed and these two system will have significantly different hardware.  Most likely you will end up having to transfer the information off your old hd, which could be done with either a ultrabay hd adapter or an inexpensive USB adapter.

  • Simple Hard Drive Compatability advice please

    Hi
Having a few problems in my mac not recognising my current hard drive at all, and some of my more techy friends suggest that has completely and irrecoverably died.
Just want to check with those of you that know more about this than me that a
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250gb 16mb serial ATA II
    http://www.stuff-uk.net/?s=ST-ST3250620AS
will work just lovely in my iMac g4 1ghz 17". Just wondering if there are any compatability issues with the 1ghz machine to any other of the Imac G4 series I've seen posted about on here.
Any sugestions for a superior drive of equal cost?
Anyone know if my current one can be brought back to useful life if even OSX reinstallation can't find the drive to install on?
    Thanks

Following on from this, I fitted my new hard drive (samsung 250gb) and got to the 'select destination' part of OSX installation, but could not locate it as an installation destination.
I can see the hard drive in system profiler so know it is connected correctly and works, but I am obivously missing a trick in formatting it or something.
What can I do to get my new hard drive to be recognised for software installation? I don't remember being able to access any of the functions of disk repairer to be able to do anything to the drive.
    Thanks

  • Lightroom/Hard drive compatibility issue.

When I import from an SD card to a Hard Drive through lightroom, how do i set it so that it deletes pictures from the hard drive when I delete them in Lightroom?

Thanks for the picture of what is happening. Are you working from the Previous Import collection?? If so files cannot be deleted from disk from collections (they can but not easily). So the place to delete from is from the folder in the Folder panel. When you delete from there you are given a choice of removing from the catalog only or deletiong from disk.

  • Hard Drive Compatibility issue?

    Hi
My hard drive died, and I purchased another one to replace it.  The specs looked the same - but I have never attempted to replace a hard drive before, so I don't really know what I am doing.  Not surprisingly... the hard drive doesn't work.
My computer is a HP Pavillion dv7-3020ea (Product Number: VJ221EA#ABU).
The HP website says the hard drive is a "320 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive 7200 rpm up to 12 GB partition for system recovery"
The HP part number for this appears to be 516349-001
I purchased the following hard drive as a replacement Hard Drive on Amazon
    The specs are:
    Drive Interface: SATA 3Gb/s
    Disk Size: 2.5 inch
    Disk Capacity: 500 Gb
    Disk Speed: 7200 rpm
    Data Buffer/RAM: 16 Mb
    Average Latency: 4.2 ms
    Power Requirement (Idle/Ready): 0.8 W
Acoustics: 28dB (Seek mode), 28dB (Idle mode)
Form Factor: 2.5 inch Hard Drive
When I replaced the hard drive, it was a perfect fit.  But I noticed there were a couple of pins on the new hard drive that were not on the old hard drive.
And when I tried to boot the computer and run the system recovery discs, I got the following error message "No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key".  I then entered the BIOS, went to Diagnostics and tried to run a self test on the primary hard disk.  However it came up as "Hard Disk Not Exist".  Grammatical mistakes and all.
Do you think this is the wrong hard drive?  Or is there something that I should be doing that I just don't realise?
I have included photos of the old and new hardrive (showing the additional pins on the new hard drive).

Hi.  Thanks for your help.  Unfortunately, there is still a problem, and this one is really odd!
I followed your instructions and I was at last able to load the recovery software and drivers.  However, after every restart (and there were many), I got the error "No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key".  After pressing a key, the error would just repeat.  However, when I pressed the power button to restart the notebook, it would continue with the installation.  That is until the next restart, and then I would again get the error and power off and on the machine.
Now it the software has fully loaded on but...
    1. Every time the notebook is loaded, I get the error "No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key".  I then have to power off and power on the notebook and it will load.
    2. My computer used to have 2 hard drives:
    - Primary (bay 1) -  320 GB, appearing as drive C (program files) and E (recovery partition)
    - Secondary (bay 2) - 320 GB appearing as drive D (documents and photos)
When I go to my computer I now have only 2 drives:
    - C (program files) and D (recovery partition) = together these add to approx 320 GB - (not 500 GB drive I installed)
    - And my secondary drive has disappeared, where all my documents & photos are stored!
    3.  When I go to the Bios Diagnostics for the Primary Hard Disk, I still get the message "Hard Disk Not Exist"
I definitely, definitely replaced the hard disk in bay 1.  The cover of that bay has the number 1 clearly marked on it, and the cover is larger than the other.
But somehow it seems to me that the new 500 GB Hard Disk is not working, and the recovery software has been installed on the secondary hard disk, wiping my files.
I am totally confused about what to do now.  Help!!!

  • Pavilion DV6449 notebook hard drive compatibility

I have a HP Pavilion DV6000 (p/n: GA456UA#ABA, service tag DV6449us) notebook without a hard drive. I happened to have a Toshiba 500 GB SATA 5400 RPM used hard drive available and I would like to know if the used HDD is compatible with the notebook. I asked two computer stores and one said the notebook was limited by the BIOS with a maximum of a 200 GB hard drive; however, the other store said the notebook can take a larger size of the HDD.  Could someone help clarify this for me?
If the HDD is compatible, I also would like to know what procedures would get the notebook running after the HDD installation, and if I need to update the BIOS? Do I need to format the HDD? When should I install the OS?
Also, I don’t have a HP re-install disk to reinstall the OS. Can I temporarily use my other PC’s reinstall disk (Vista Home Premium 32-bit) to test if the notebook is running correctly before I purchase an OS license? I’ll be greatly appreciative if someone can list what steps I need to take in order to get the notebook up and running.

    Hi:
If you successfully created the Vista DVD, you should be able to boot from it.
In order to do that, the easiest thing to do is to have the DVD in the DVD drive, boot up the PC and at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, tap the F9 key to launch the one time boot menu.
Select the DVD drive from the list of devices and hit the enter key.
If the DVD was made right, you should see a message on the screen that states in substance...Attempting to boot from DVD...Press any key to boot from DVD...
Hit any key and the PC should boot from the DVD and you should see a white bar on the bottom of the screen that shows that windows is loading files.  Then just follow the rest of the instructions when the install screen comes up.

  • Sony HD Camcorder with hard drive-compatibility with a mac

I am considering purchasing a new Sony HD camcorder with an internal hard drive but it appears the hd format is not compatible with a mac. Does this sound correct and if so do we know how long til they can work together. Sony stated that mac would not be able to read the hd formatting? Sony model HDR-SR1

    Thanks for adding consumer comments.
No sound in QuickTime (with the Playback Component installed) is probably created by Sony (not Apple). I'll bet they use their own "scheme" (proprietary codecs).
Your "conversions" from MPEG-2 format to DV Stream do look good. But they would look even better if the source format was DV Stream to begin with.
Because your camera records in MPEG-2 format it must first "compress" your video. DV Stream is 13 GB's an hour. MPEG-2 compresses this down so you're losing data from your "true" source.
If someone from Sony was passing these cameras out on a street corner I would walk on by.
I would consider a HD recorder if it kept the file as DV Stream and included a Firewire connection. Sony does this with their "tape" machine but they call Firewire "iLink".

  • Hard Drive Compatibility Question

    Hi all.
Been looking into hard drive upgrades for a Mac Pro. Am I correct in my assumption that the internal SATA hard drives that I have used on my desktop windows based PC would be physically imcompatible with a Mac Pro? An example 'WD Caviar Green 1.5 TB Internal'
Obviously I would reformat the filesystem for OSX.
I ask as it seems the Mac Pro compatible ones are so costly and I'd rather not fork out at this time !
    Many thanks

    Hi hatter,
I am starting to lean towards your opinions...
I own two 1TB Blacks and although they are supposed to be considered as "performance" drives, they seem to lag. I felt less lag time when I was using the Blue 500GB and I may buy another one of those. I am also wondering if the 1TB internal drives I have are too "taxing" on my first generation MacPro model 1.1. Maybe it's too much for it to handle and it's begging for its previous 500GB hard drives back. Maybe I got too "greedy" by replacing the 4x 500GB Blue drives by 2x 1TB Blacks + 1x 1TB Green and 1x 500GB Blue. Any comments on my suspicions?

  • NB205 hard drive compatability

    Hi all,
This is my first time posting.
Quick question... are all the hard drives for the NB205 series the same dimensions?  For example, can you replace a hard drive from an NB205-312 with a hard drive from an NB205-325?
Same question in more detail...  I have an NB205-312 which has died.  Unfortunately I downloaded a lot of music and photos since the last time I backed up the netbook.  Rather than pay a computer tech $200 to retrieve the data from the hard drive, I figured it would be cheaper to simply buy a used NB205 on eBay, put my current hard drive into that laptop and then backup the photos and music.  I can probably buy a used one for less than $100.  Once it's done I then have a new NB205.
There are a lot of NB205's on eBay, but not many specific 312 models.  There are 325's and other models available.  So will I be wasting my money if I buy a different model NB205 and try to install my current hard drive?
    Thanks!

    Hi, Jerry!
Happy new year. Your comments are always helpful. However, I made two mistakes with offline files/folders. 1) Encrypting files makes them difficult to use as recovery copies; 2) compressing them is also problematic and I will not do either again. Therefore, a straight forward copying of important files to a backup device/harddrive is simply all that needs to be done.
Moreover, working with backup systems from Windows v7 to v8(.1) and vice versa has caused problems. The aforementioned problems were no better on v8.1 (8.0) than on v7 (Pro). I hope the new Microsoft CEO will deal with these issues and ensure that the OSs can all do as they are purported to do. These processes are very important. We no longer are in the entertainment/toy market as a general rule. Most users are serious about digital technology. Thanks!
    Sincerely,
    Bi-Ill
    Good luck!
