Hard Drive Connectors/G4 & G5??

I have a 2nd hard drive in my old G4 MD 1.25 that I'd like to install in my G5 machine.
Problem is that the connectors are completely different.
Does anyone know if there's an adaptor or a way to make this happen?
Thanks in advance.

Throw the drives into FireWire case(s) though given the improvements in drive storage, performance and capacity, you might just want to backup off your G4 and get a new FW drive.
Then pick up new SATA drive for your G5.

  • Mac Pro Hard Drive Connectors

I need to replace the two screws that hold the hard drive connectors to the Mac Pro.
Does anyone know where I can begin to find these? They are two small black screws.
The previous owner of my Mac Pro removed them so that he could attach an SSD drive loosely to the Mac Pro.
I'm going to replace the SSD drive, as it failed, and it comes with a 3.5" tray that should attach to the Mac Pro hard drive carrier, but when I push it back in to align up with the hard drive connector, since he removed the screws, it doesn't align up and go in without me manually connecting it. I'd like to get it back to the way it was with the screws.
So...I wonder what part number that is or how I can get those two little screws, the exact ones?
    Any advice would be great.
    Thanks.

Yeah there are two models for this Icy Dock SSD Kit...I think I want the screwless version.
MB882SP-1S-2B - uses screws to mount the drive and has more ventilation for a moving parts 2.5" drive
MB882SP-1S-1B - is screwless and is meant more for SSD drives
    I use the screwless version.
As for dvwearhouse and others, unless you know the part number, how do you know where to look?

  • Dose the airport extreme come with a internal hard drive connector

Dose the new airport extreme come with a internal hard drive

If you want an internal drive, go for the Time Capsule. It wouldn't make sense to launch two AirPorts that are the same but one does not include a hard drive even if it comes with the hard drive connector.
Another option you have is to connect an external hard drive to your AirPort Extreme

  • IPod 5G Hard Drive Connector

OK guys, I am stumped with this.  Is there anyway that i can pull music off a hard drive from a 5th G ipod?  The unit itself is fried, but I have a friend that brought it to me after taking it for a swim.  She doesnt have the music backed up, yada yada, same old story.  Is there a CE-ATA to SATA connector somewhere that i am missing?  And even if there is, would there be a way to extrapulate the music once it's plugged up?

Not that I'm aware. There third party recovery solutions out there who might be able to recover her data for her, but the chances are still very slim and in most cases very costly.
She can always redownload past purchases via iCloud.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, she'll need to redownload and rerip all of this content from its origina source again.

  • Troubleshooting failed hard drive / connector / controller

    Hi,
A couple weeks ago, I thought my Macbook Pro hard drive failed. At start up I received the folder with a question mark. I assumed that the hard drive failed and bought a new internal hard drive. After connecting the new hard drive and formatting it to Mac OS Extended file format (from a separate computer), I only got a gray screen at start up and nothing else. As long as the blank internal hard drive is in the computer I only get the gray screen at startup even if i connect an external hard disk with a working mac os x copy. When i remove the new hard drive and connect a bootable external drive i am able to startup. However, now the computer goes to sleep at the login screen and i am unable to wake it again.
Also, when i connect the old hard drive. The one i thought had failed to another computer, it works. I guess at this point something has to be wrong with the connector or the hard drive controller.
I don't have Apple Care anymore. I bought the Macbook Pro in 2nd half of 2009. It is the 13".

" I only get the gray screen at startup even if i connect an external hard disk with a working mac os x copy. When i remove the new hard drive and connect a bootable external drive i am able to startup."
So that points to a internal SATA cable issue. A know problem in these MBPs of this age.
"However, now the computer goes to sleep at the login screen and i am unable to wake it again"
l was working on a 2010 MBP that did that. Turns out to be the battery even tho' the system report seemed normal. If that's the original battery in there it's beyond it's life expectancy anyway since Li Ions have a limited lifetime.

  • Quick question, re: bent pins on hard drive connector...

When replacing my hard drive I slightly bent 4 of the small pins on the back of the new hard drive. I tried bending them back slightly but the connector was able to fit over them, so I just ended up leaving as is...
My question is, will these "bent pins" possible cause problems in the future? The HD seems fine, should I risk opening the computer again to try and straighten them? Any advice appreciated...

Those pins are very sensitive. They run into the circuitboard of the drive controller. Any bending can push the pin into the circuitboard and cause it to break off, or potentially short. If you have a very fine tipped saudering iron and a steady hand and a good magnifying glass you can fix it, but most people do not have that sort of skill. I was lucky that my usergroup had someone with such skills to fix my drive. But eventually I'm not going to rely on that drive forever. You have to be very careful when connecting the drive to the connector so the pins don't bend. If you don't, you might have ruined the drive. If you just bought it, take it back to where you bought it from and tell them it is defective and use their return policy.

  • T61 hard drive connector information

    Hi,
I plan to upgrade my hard drive to larger capacity, and to use the current one as an external one. I noticed that the connector of the current hard drive does not seem to match the (external hard drive) enclosure's.  I don't have the laptop with me, but I am pretty sure it's of SATA interface
    Is an adapter required?
(Clarifying what I mean by `connector', please see this sample picture.)
    Much TIA!
    Olyh

    Thanks, George.
I opened my ThinkPad and pulled out the HDD to take a look. Then I realized the hard drive enclosure I already have was for ATA drive. So I was mistaken when I asked the question.
I have a couple of follow up questions:
    1. Most of the SATA external enclosures I see on the Web either say they work with HDD capacity up to 250GB, or mention nothing in this regard. There is one that says it works up to 300 GB. Why is there such a limitation? I.e, why are larger capacity, like perhaps 320G or 400G  not compatible?
    2.  If I upgrade my HDD, do I need a new caddy? Can the existing one be used?
    Thanks again,
    Olyh

Yeah, I probably should have mentioned that in my previous statement. I've seen a couple of the adapters floating around on eBay.cn but they're usually insanely expensive (like $650+ USD). It's unfortunate too, I remember seeing the article on various tech blogs and thinking to myself: "I have to get my hands on that adapter."

  • Hard drive not fitting into connector.

    Hello,
Just to let you know, this is the first time I've ever tried to upgrade a hard drive on a 13", 2007, white Intel MacBook.  I was following the directions I had found on the internet.  I've taken the old drive out, swapped the hard drive plate from the original drive to the new hard drive and tried to push it back into the same slot, but for some reason I can't get it to go all the way back into that slot the drive fits in.  Strange enough, it also feels like it's pushing against something rubbery on the inside.  It's less than a 1/4 inch from going all the way back in.  I've made certain that all the screws are tightened all the way on the drive, but can't figure out why I'm getting resistence when I try to push it in that weeee little bit.
I am certain that I have the drive flipped the proper way too, because I took note of how the original drive was oriented and made sure I duplicated that on this new drive.  Like I had said before, it feels like there is something rubbery that's in the way, I just can't get to it.
So I'm also curious if anyone knows if I were to take off the top cover on the laptop whether that would expose the hard drive so that I could see why it's not fitting into the connector properly.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Here's step by step instructions from iFixIt.com on accessing the hard drive connector http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-MacBook-Core-2-Duo-Hard-Drive-Connector/5 23/1
As you will see there are two rubber spacers on each side of the hard drive enclosure. If one of them comes loose that could be what you're feeling.

  • MacBook won't recognize _any_ kind of internal hard drive

The subject might seem a bit generalized, but it's based on the fact that two hard drives (both almost new, and fully functional externally) fail to be recognized inside the MacBook. Anyway, here's my MacBook's (somewhat detailed) history:
It's a 2.16Ghz BlackBook bought at an Apple reseller in Korea in (late) January of 2008, with 1GB RAM installed. Since it wasn't one of the new Santa Rosa ones, it came with a Tiger install disk, but the sellers there copied an image of OS X Leopard onto the Mac from another hard disk with Leopard installed (does that break any laws?).
I used it with no problems until a few weeks ago, when the hard drive failed due to a head crash (click of death, though I never got to check if it was a Seagate). Currently living in Japan, I had the hard drive replaced under warranty at some Apple support place (I don't think it was a Genius Bar, though) a few weeks ago. They reinstalled Leopard for me. I also placed an order from OWC for a new 250GB, 5400rpm Hitachi Travelstar.
However, from the time of the hard drive replacement, my system began to act funky. There were minor system pref. errors, the bluetooth module would show up as unrecognized at random intervals, the Internet Sharing (over wireless) completely stopped working, and applications tended to hang a lot more often.
I bought an external USB enclosure for my 250GB drive yesterday. Following directions from ifixit.com, I took out the 160GB drive from inside my mac and put it in the enclosure, and put the 250GB drive inside. I booted into the now-external 160GB drive to format my 250GB drive, but Disk Utility failed to recognize it. I tried using Disk Utility while booting from my Tiger disks and also the Apple Hardware Test, but they couldn't find any problems. Resetting the PRAM and reseating the hard drive didn't do anything, either.
Frustrated, I tried swapping the two drives. It then wouldn't recognize the internal 160GB drive, but would recognize the external 250GB drive as unformatted (booting from Tiger disk). Skeptical, I swapped the two drives once again, fiddled around with Disk Utility a bit more, swapped again, split the 250GB drive (now external again) into three partitions, and installed Tiger into the first partition.
Okay, so Tiger worked. It still wouldn't recognize the 160GB drive inside the MacBook, but at least it booted. But since I had all my data on my 160GB drive, and guessed I wouldn't be fixing this anytime soon anyway, I swapped the two drives for one final time to this configuration, with the 160GB in the external enclosure and the 250GB inside the MacBook.
Though the question might be obvious, does anyone know what might be wrong? Could I accidentally have damaged the hard drive connector inside while installing the drive? Is it a logic board failure? I hope I haven't voided my warranty or anything, cause it's barely been three months using this laptop.. and the retail price was bloated to begin with since it was imported..
Thanks for taking the time to read all this, and for any help

the sellers there copied an image of OS X Leopard onto the Mac from another hard disk with Leopard installed (does that break any laws?).
Yes, that was illegal. The sellers should have either reinstalled the version of Mac OS X that came with the system or given/sold you the entire retail package for Leopard.
As to your disk problem, I can think of three possibilities:
    1) You aren't getting the drive fully seated. Make sure you're not putting it in upside down.
    2) The connector was damaged in some way. If the service center caused the problem, they should cover it, though you may have a difficult time getting them to admit that they caused the problem. If you caused the damage yourself, that would not be covered under warranty. The drive is considered a user-installable part, but if you cause any damage while installing the drive, that is not covered.
    3) Your system has a logic board problem with the SATA port.
If the first possibility doesn't pan out, then a trip back to the service center is going to be in order.
    Good luck.

  • Can I replace internal hard drive using only my system recovery disc?

Hello Everyone and thank you so much for your help!
I have a Vista Desktop and have determined that I need to replace the hard drive.
I am hoping that I can set the jumper pin on the new hard drive to primary, remove the old drive, install the new drive and turn on the computer with the System Recovery (SR) Disc in my DVD drive, boot off of the SR Disc, and run the SR.  Will this work or am I just dreaming?
On thing that might cause issues is that the original hard drive is 640GB, and it is no longer available, so the new one I have is 500GB..Everything else about the 2 drives is the same.  Old drive: WD6400AAKS, New Drive: WD5000AAKS.
Thank you extra much for any advise you can provide!
    Cindy
P.S.. In case it would be helpful to know why I think I need to replace the hard drive...in the mornings when I go to turn the computer on, the hard drive activity light never flashes even a single time and the computer doesn't boot.  Through trial and error I have figured out that by doing this:
    1) removing power from the computer
    2) disconnect then reconnect both connectors to the hard drive
    3) reconnect power to the computer
    4) depress the computer On button
that  the computer will boot and all is good for the day.  However, I turn off the computer at night and the next morning have to follow the above procedure.  Only removing power from the computer for 30+ minutes does not work, it seems to be necessary to disconnect the hard drive connectors.
This all started at the same time I got a virus on the computer that I was supposedly able to remove.
I have done the following to try to resolve the problem with no success:
    1) Ran the diagnostics and passed all Tests, tests say hard drive is okay. (day 1)
    3) Cleared the CMOS by removing the battery on mother board (day 1)
    2) Did a System Recovery (day 2)
    3) Ran Boot.exe /FixMbr (day 3)
    4) Ran Boot.exe /FixBoot (day 4)
    5) Ran Boot.exe/rebuild bcd (day 5)
I am thinking I must also have a virus on the boot sector that did not get written over when I did the System Recover...but I am a novice computer geek, so I know I could have missed something. :-)

Its easy Pal! You check your HDD first but not in the way you did. Just follow the steps with your old HDD.
    1. Try a clean install(delete the partitions while installing OS) of other OS like linux or XP or Windows 7.
    2. If it works properly the your HDD is OK.
    3. Then work for some days with the OS installed to check the condition of HDD.
    4. If any problem happens then you need to buy a new one or if its recently bought, go for RMA.
    5. If there is no problem, then do a clean install(delete the partitions while installing OS) with your Vista Recovery.
    6. Use a Better Security with MSE/Avira/Trand Micro
For Replacing with a different HDD, you must consult nearest HP Service Point for the change in your hardware configuration, so that they will register with Microsoft with the new HDD.
Note: Give the old and new HDD to HP Service Point employee.
