Hard drive crash, need to get ipod songs back onto itunes

i'm a bit computer illiterate and need step by step instructions for how to connect my ipod without losing everything. if you've done this before and you can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. There are various programs out there for recovering photos from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. If you search the internet you can find more. Just be aware that what you'll be recovering will be photos optimised for the iPod so they won't be the same quality as the original full resolution versions:

Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive

Hard Drive Crashed Having Problems Getting My Music Back

I completely lost my laptop hard drive. It was unsalvagable. Before I reinstalled Itunes on the new hard drive I plugged my Nano in and copied all of the music on it to a desktop folder as a backup. Then I reinstalled Itunes and plugged my Nano into the computer. I got a message that my Ipod was not recognized on this computer, or something to that effect, and did I want to associate it with my library, I clicked yes.
I can't get my music to play on the Ipod. My computer was able to recognize the music that I had put into the backup folder and I can add it to my libraries, and play it from Itunes but when I put it on the Ipod but it won't play. Oddly enough, two songs that I purchased a few years back will play on the Ipod but nothing else; they weren't on my Ipod Nano to begin with, they just showed up in my library when I added the new hard drive to my account.
Is there anyway to reauthorize all of the music or somehow make it play? It is possible to just uninstall Itunes, copy the desktop music files to the Ipod and then somehow start over, etc.?

I'm not sure I completely understand what you've done.
1) Did you back up the songs from your old hard drive? Those are your base files for songs purchased through iTunes, rather than those on the iPod. My understanding of Apple's DRM scheme is that the iPod is only intended to REFLECT what you have stored on your hard drive. Always a good idea to back up those hard drive files on an external drive, etc.
2) Once authorized, your iPod should play anything you are authorized to play on your main computer.
3) If you're trying to add those old files copied from your iPod back into iTunes, that may not be a possibility... Part of Apple's DRM scheme.

but when i connect iphone it wants to delete everything off it.
oddly enough it imported the photos. why cant it jsut import everything?
the reason why i dont want to wipe it and start over is because I have dozens of addresses stored in Tomtom.
if i tell to setup new device it will delete all apps including the saved data in those apps
so i'm wondering how can I get round this problem?
i have all my apps saved on a second drive.
why cant itunes just recognize this is your phone and let all app data remain on it and resync? why does it have to delete everything even after i verify my account?

You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

The 250GB hard drive on my iMac crashed - totally fried. It's been replaced and the operating system and software reinstalled. The problem - I have 22GB of music on my iPod (5G, 60GB) that I'd like to get back onto the computer. All music is legal - ripped from my library of 500+ CD's. The iPod is already set to manual updates and for use as a disc drive.
Someone please tell me there's a way to do this without having to rip all 500 CD's again...

If they are songs you purchased plug your iPod in and in iTunes select "File > Transfer Purchased Music From iPod".

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.

Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

Hard drive crash need help with new iTunes load and backup files

I have looked through the posts and not found my situation.
I had my iPhone synced to a PC computer and the hard drive crashed. I had an extensive library in iTunes, but none of the music was purchased online so I can't simply download it again. It was all from CD's, many of which belonged to friends. I now have an iMac. The music I like is still on my iPhone, but not on my new iMac. When I try to sync the iPhone with my iMac it wants to delete all the music on my iPhone. Is there any way to copy the music off my iPhone first - so I can add it back into my iTunes library?

What version of PS? If it's CC, just reinstall the CC application manager then PS and sign in. For an earlier version you will need to call Abobe to have you S/N reset.

Depends on how you bought Aperture to begin with..
If you bought it from the Mac App Store simply log in to the MAS using the same Apple ID you used to buy it and download it
If you bought Aperture on DVD you will need to install from the DVD using the serial number you received with the DVD package.
If you bought Aperture through a digital download prior to the MAS, say a trial version you upgraded, things get a bit more complicated. You will need to install from the original DMG package file you downloaded and use the serial number Apple set you went you purchased it.

Hello. My old hard drive crashed and I bought a new computer. Unfortunately I did not back up any files from my old computer and lost all files including iTunes music. A while back, I had a hard drive fail which was storing all my music to sync to the iPod. Now, I have the music on the iPod, but need to get it back into iTunes, without iTunes deleting the music upon sync.
