Hard drive crash: Repurchasing Music?

Hey guys, im new here, but over the summer I had a major hard drve issue and lost nearly 1 TB of files, pictures, video, AND MUSIC. And now, I can see the soundtracks I bought in iTunes, but since the downloadedalbums are gone, i can't listen to them and the files are gone, and I didn't know if there was any way of repurchasing these albums for free, because I know once you purchase an app on the iPhone even if you delete it you can redownload it for free, I didn't know if the same concept would apply for music, because as much as I love the stuff that i bought, I'd rather not pay twice for everything when im only getting it once technically, if it helps, i know for SURE that i bought these albums:
The Twilight Saga: New Moon (Deluxe Soundtrack) - Various Artists [ALBUM]
The Time Spent Wondering - Man on Earth [SINGLE TRACK: "It Feels Like..."]
Neon Bible - Arcade Fire [SINGLE TRACK: "Keep the Car Running"]
Funeral - Arcade Fire [SINGLE TRACK: "Wake Up"] (I've actually bought this AGAIN for my iPhone)
The String Quartet Tribute to Arcade Fire's Funeral - Vitamin String Quartet [TWO TRACKS: "Wake Up" & "Crown of Love"]
Let It Die-EP - Foo Fighters [SINGLE TRACK: "Keep The Car Running (BBC Radio 1's Six Weeks of Summer)
The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford - Nick Cave & Warren Ellis [ALBUM]
The Office Theme - Michael Scott Fan Club [SINGLE TRACK: "The Office Theme"]
Movie Hits - Starlite Orchestra [SINGLE TRACK: "The Office (Main Theme)"]
A Nightmare On Elm Street - Steve Jablonksy [ALBUM]
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - John Williams [ALBUM]
The Simpsons Movie-The Music - Hans Zimmer [ALBUM]
Up - Michael Giacchino [ALBUM]
THE VERY BEST of the FANTASY MOVIES - L'Orchestra Cinematique [SINGLE TRACK: "Master of Shadows (2012)"]
So yeah....as you can see i'd much prefer to not have to pay to get ALL of these back again, if I need to track down my reciept numbers or anything I can if thats what I need to do, if anyone can help with this matter please let me know

Click here and ask. You're supposed to back them up.
once you purchase an app on the iPhone even if you delete it you can redownload it for free
Apple doesn't pay royalties on apps. They do on music downloads.

  • Hard Drive Crash--Restoring music files from External Hard Drive

My hard disk crashed, but I think (at least I hope) that I'm backed up. I had copied all of my Itunes music onto an external hard disk before the crash, although I'm not sure I copied everything that you are supposed for a full backup (i.e. all files in the Itunes folder). I'm uncertain as to the process to get everything restored.
Right now, Itunes is not installed on the new hard disk. Obviously I need to download and reinstall Itunes, which I'll do. But from here I'm confused, and I haven't seen a straightforward explanation of the next steps. Is it then as easy as copying all the old music from the external hard drive into the new Itunes music folder once Itunes is reinstalled, then synching? Or, do install itunes, then reopen it while the external hard drive is attached, and "consolidate" the old library into the new? Or do I first have to plug in the Ipod, authorize the new drive, and move the purchased music from the Ipod to the new drive through the manually managing music process that I've read about? Is there a relatively straightforward "step by step" process someone can point me at?
I'd appreciate any guidance anyone can provide, or any directions to some materials that I can read. Thanks very much.

If you copied the entire iTunes folder to the external, then all you have to do is install iTunes like normal, then start up with these instructions and point it to your backup on the external...
How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447
Assuming that works, you can either leave everything as is and continue to use it directly off the external. Or close iTunes, then again copy the entire iTunes folder back to your internal drive, then reopen iTunes with those instructions again and re-point it back to your internal drive's copy.

  • Hard drive crash - lost music - any way to re-download?

Not sure if this is the right forum but the platform is Windows XP with iTunes. Drive crashed and I lost all the music that was downloaded. Any way to download it again or am I screwed?
    Thanks

I don't back up the machine that has the music on it because there are only 6 to 10 albums that were downloaded a few years back. I prefer CD's because I can rip them at higher bit rate and still have the original disks. Which is why I am not freaking out because I lost my rips - I still have the CDs. The music that I did buy from iTunes won't be a huge loss if I can't re-download it, but it would be nice to be able to do that. So please, no more <shock>haven't you backed up</shock> comments. I'm simply looking for an answer to the question - "is it possible to re-download bought music"? It's most likely either yes or no.
So thanks for pointing out the terms.html. The answer is no. Bummer but not a huge deal. Not for me at least.

My hard drive failed in my Mac. Lost all my music, except what's on my phone.
How do I transfer my audio files from my iphone5 back onto my new Mac without losing anything??? I'm afraid when I plug in my phone it will erase everything.
I know purchases I made on itunes will be fine... but I had A LOT of music before itunes that was from CDs/etc.

  • Hard Drive Crash!  Music safe / Library.xml not

I lost my boot drive last week and apple care had to install a new HD. None of my old data could be recovered. Needless to say, my "iTunes Music Library.xml" is gone. Is there a way to recreate it? I still have my iPod, can it be used to help recreate it?
    Thanks,
    Bert

If your entire library is on your iPod, you can by most part restore the library in iTunes by using applications like Senuti or iPodRip (latest versions on versiontracker.com).
As far as I know these applications can't restore Smart Playlists, but can restore other data, like ratings and normal playlists.
Similar applications can be found on Versiontracker by searching for 'iPod'.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can anyone help me to transfer everything I have on my Ipad on to a new computer.  my hard drive crashed and a new one was installed and I do not want to loose all my apps or music.  Please help

    Hi everyone,
I am looking for help and maybe someone can help me please.  My hard drive crashed and dell installed a new one.  I have two iphones and an ipad with all my apps, music, amd photos.  Can anyone indicate me what to do so I do not lose everything when I plug in my phone.  Thanks

Naturally you should have a recent backup of your "crashed" hard drive. If you don't, well, hopefully you've learned a lesson but that doesn't solve your current problem.
If all your apps and media were purchased from the iTunes App Store, don't worry about them. Redownload all your apps and media, then allow iTunes to sync with and wipe your iOS devices - which will also put all the apps and media on them. You'll lose your settings, and any data which resided only on the iOS devices, and of course you'll need to organize your iOS folders and home screens and whatnot. But you won't really lose much, and without a backup this is your best choice.
If you have media from sources other than the iTunes App Store, look at Senuti or similar applications designed to copy media from iOS devices to computers. Use that first, then sync as I described in my second paragraph above. (I mention Senuti because it's popular. There are other options which work just as well, and some are even free.)

  • My hard drive crashed and when I replaced it, I am unable to sync most of my music.  The message "file not found" appears.  I have all my music on my .  How can I upload these to iCloud or iTunes?

My hard drive crashed and I replaced it.  I also switched from ATT to Verizon for my iPhone.  Now when I sync with iTunes, only about a tenth of my songs are on the new iPhone.  one or two from each album.  I still have an iPad with all my songs on it.  I subscribed to music match, but when I try on the iPad it wants to match with iTunes and erase a\the music on the iPad.  I have no music on iCloud when I sign in.  Can anyone help me???

If the hard drive that crashed is the one that stored the itunes library, be sure to restore the library from Time Machine (mac) or whatever backup you use on windows.  That will get back your music.  I suspect that the replacement drive has an empty itunes library and thus, perhaps, the itunes match used that to sync to its servers.
Try posting in the iTunes Match forum, you'll probably find more knowledgeable folks there.

  • I lost my iTunes library on my pc when the hard drive crashed. None of the data on the drive was recoverable and I did not have a backup. How can I get the music that resides on my ipod nano (4th generation back onto the new hard drive on my pc.

I lost my iTunes library on my pc when the hard drive crashed. None of the data on the drive was recoverable and I did not have a backup either locally or on the cloud. Much of the music is from old vinyl and podcasts which are no longer available.
How can I get the music that resides on my ipod nano (4th generation) back onto the new hard drive on my pc.
I have been reluctant to install iTunes on the new hard drive out of fear that I will lose all the contents on the ipod if I try to synch to the new hard drive.
    Help!

No backup is a huge mistake.

how can i sync music from my phone onto my new computer without losing it all? my old computer's hard drive crashed so it is unusable.

If you do not have a back up of the crashed hard drive you can download an app to copy from the iPhone to iTunes on the new hard drive.
I have used Pod2Mac.  There is also Pod2PC.
There are numerous choices, some free, some payed.  Do a Google search.

  • How do I transfew all of my music from my iPod to my iTunes? I had to wipe my computer because my hard drive crashed and it will only let me sync my iTunes to iPod.

My hard drive crashed and I had to wipe my computer. When I plug my iPod into my computer, it asks if I want to sync my (empty) iTunes account to my (full) iPod, but doesn't give me the option to put my iPod music onto my empty iTunes account. All I want to do is put my iPod's music back into my iTunes account, but can't figure out how to do it. I had some music backed up, but when I put it into iTunes, it won't play the songs (has an ! next to it) even though I purchased the songs from iTunes. I've tried authorizing my account, but nothing brings my old account back. Any help would be appreciated.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just this reason.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases

If you have the media on an iDevice then you should be able to get most of your non-iTunes purchases back as well. See this post from forum regular Zevoneer for options.

what do i do if my hard drive crashed? how do i get back all the music i paid for from itunes?

You can ask if they will let you download again and I have heard of Apple allowing lost content to be downloaded in some cases but here is a copy and paste of the terms from the iTunes Store Terms and Conditions from the site Niel refenced above in his post. Apple is not bound by law to let you download again so keep that in mind. You do not have the right to download again if they refuse you.

My old hard drive crashed and had to get it replaced. How do I reinstall my old library to the new hard drive from my iphone4s so I don't lose my music?

Officially you don't. Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
