Hard Drive Crashed-Reinstalled iMov-can't move Events/Projects

I had to put new Hard drives into my Mac Pro. I did manage to salvage my Projects and Events by copying them temporarily to an external drive. I have since copied them on to a partition of one of the new internal drives.
I then had to reinstall iMovie from my iLife disc.
Now, when I open this new iMovie, I see all the internal and external drives and volumes, but none of my Events or Projects show up. Each drive has a downward triangle and nothing showing under it.
I read instructions and posts and as best I can understand, I am supposed to drag a Project icon, holding down command or copy, onto the icon of the drive I want it on in the Project Library list.
But as soon as I get my curser carrying the Project into the Project Library window, all the drives shift out of reach and it becomes the empty dark grey Project Library panel.
I tried the same with Events but there, the drives don't move but what I am trying to drag and rop does not turn into a plus sign and if I let go it does nothing.
What am I doing wrong?
Help? Thanks

Appleman-that was fantastic. Thank you. Copied those folders over to new drive at top level, opened iMovie and viola!

  • Hard drive crash - reinstalling library

My hard drive crashed and I've installed a new one on my G5. All songs in my library are intact on my iPod, but I need to re-populate my iTunes directory on the Mac. Can someone guide me here? Thank you.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • MY PREVIOUS MAC HARD DRIVE CRASHED. WHY CAN'T I SYNC MY IPHONE PHOTOS TO MY NEW MACBOOK?!?!?! SERIOUSLY. APPLE.

This is UNACCEPTABLE.  When a computer hard drive crashes, you can't do anything about it.  Now I have a ton of photos on my iphone that I just can't get off it when I want to sync it with my newly purchased Macbook Air.
This is one area where controlling everything end-to-end is too much.  Let us get to the **** raw data files where we need too (like the Macbook allows you to do that).  COME ON APPLE.  SERIOUSLY, do a **** upgrade and fix this crap.

You can get your photos off your phone.  If they are all in Camera Roll just import them to your new computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083).  If some of them were synced to your iphone from your computer (i.e., in photo library) just use an app like PhotoSync and send them to your new computer wirelessly.  For that matter, you can sync your phone with your new computer without losing your data and settings if you carefully follow this guide: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.  Your only issue will be non-purchased music on your phone which is not in your new iTunes library, which will require 3rd party software such as Touch Copy to transfer from your phone to iTunes (or you will have to rip you CDs again to import them).

  • I think my hard drive crashed. How can I get data off via firewire before the HD completely goes? I was stuck on the BSoD and now I can't even use the install disk. Utility Disk said HD was okay. Please HELP ME

    Safe mode did nothing.
Safe mode with verbose seemed to make it worse.
Before continuously trying new things, I could use the install disk to check the disk utility and clear
the hard drive from there but now the screen won't even load to that.
I really need the data on the hard drive especially if it can't be salvaged.
    How can i transfer files?
Am I better off physically taking my HD out or will it damage itself without
    leaving the system.
    I tried command r
    resetting the pram
    safe mode
    jumping out a window
    nothing has helped.
I am stuck on the blue screen of death and it flickers.

No. In order to use FireWire Target Disk Mode you need to use a FireWire equipped Mac. Other than that the only other way I can think of to even attempt to access you files would be to remove your hard drive and install it in a case and connect it to another computer.
Have you run the Apple Hardware Test? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509

  • My hard drive crashed and I can not find my Photoshop CS6's serial number. What do I do?

I originally had Photoshop CS5 (bought DVD), but decided to upgrade to Photoshop CS6. When I upgraded to Photoshop CS6, I purchased it online and did it through e-mail instead of DVD. The e-mail has disappeared, and my computer's hard drive crashed so I have no idea what my Photoshop CS6's serial number is. How would I be able to find it?

You cannot "connect" to it by using the serial number. The following has information from Apple regarding a lost or stolen device: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen

  • My MacBook Pro's hard drive is about full, can I move a lot of the data to my 3 TB Time Capsule?

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 17 Inch with 750 GB of space on its hard drive.  About a month and half ago I bought a 3 TB Time Capsule and I know that Time Capsule, together with Time Machine, basically takes periodic snapshots of your hard drive and will rearrange/clean/delete files on your hard drive.  What I want to know is that since I'm about to run out of space on the internal hard drive can I move a good chunk of the data into the Time Capsule and free up that data on internal hard drive.  Videos take up about 75% of my MacBook Pro's hard drive so video's are my biggest problem.  If I can't do this with the Time Capsule I guess that's a con of the Time Capsule/Time Machine.
Thank you to anyone that answers!

You should be able to do that by partitioning but then how would that data be backed up?  If the Time Capsule drive fails, then all of that data is lost.  I would suggest you consider an additional external HDD for redundancy unless the video files are of no importance.
    Ciao.

  • TS1368 I have authorized 5 computers for my itunes account and cannot authorize any more computers.  However, two of my computers had hard drive crashes and I can't go to those computers to deauthorize them so I can add new computers.  How do I do that?

I have authorized over the past years a total of 5 computers, two of which bit the dust.  Apple will not allow me to authorize any more computers because I've maxed out the limit of 5.  According to the instructions, I must deauthorize the two computers that crashed to allo any more computers to share my music, videos, etc.  I can't deauthorize the two hard drives that "crashed", so how can I authorize any more computers?  Help.

Once per year you can deauthorize all five computers regardless of whether they are still in service or no longer in your possession. You can then reauthorize the computers you still use.
In iTunes Store click on the Account link under Quick Links.

  • External hard drive crashed...need to move iTunes music files

I had all my music on an external hard drive which recently crashed. Fortunately I did have the library xml file on my laptop hard drive so I still have the library info, playlists, play count, etc. So I used 3rd party software to dump the music files from my iPod back on to another external hard drive. However, when I go to preferences and change the iTunes directory to that folder it still does not recognize the songs. I have gray exclamation marks beside each song and when I try to play songs it says that it can not locate the file. I have a huge library with close to 13,000 songs in it so I am really trying to figure out the easiest way to restore the music back to library so everything will play. Can someone please help me figure out what I need to do. So to summarize I still have the library xml files...I just need to know how to associate the actual songs with the library so that when I try to play a song I do not get an error message saying the file can not be found.

If I do that won't I have duplicates of songs and will the songs that are added have the play count and etc?

  • Hard drive crash, reinstall Photoshop CS2

I recently had a serious event with my MacBook Pro's hard drive. The Geniuses got it going again, but I'm now having issues with Photoshop (CS2). I need to reinstall the software to fix it, but I've used up my two "licenses" for the software. I can't reload directly from the CD's - it won't allow it.
Is there a way to bypass this software permission, or do I need to reformat my computer and start over?
    Thanks!

  • My hard drive crashed and i can't sync my ipad and iphone

the hard drive on my PC crashed.  My tec was able to save my music and other itunes items.  He copied itunes back onto the new drive.  I went to sync my iphone and ipad and it would not saying this computer is not the one these i(phone & pad) are not synced to.  Help, Help. Help!!

Your iTunes account won't include your non-iTunes purchased e.g. music copied from CDs etc, nor photos that were synced from a computer.
To get non-iTunes music you will have to go via a computer. If you don't have that music on, for example, an external drive, then there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy them back from a device : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
For photos that were originally synced from a computer then there are apps such as Simple Transfer which can copy them between devices and/or to a computer (though photos are 'optimised' as part of the syncing process, so if you do copy them back to a computer then they might not be the same as they were on your laptop).
There is also this page for syncing to a new computer : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

  • After hard-drive crash & reinstall got evrything back but photos

My hard drive went and had to be replaced. I managed to receover some stuff b4 replacing it. I then installed iTunes into this new drive, managed to get everything back--that is to say I can see and play my music in itunes, the genres, title etc are all correct. yes everything seems a-OK but the album art. The album art folder which I created (my own folder wth my own art.) is still there but it no art shows in itune. How do i get the art back?
Was there perhaps a specific fle I needed for it? If yes, which one and where does it go? (Since I may have it saved)
or is there another solution without me having to go the l;aborious thing of having to reinsert album art for all of my music files (4,258 songs X 10 seconds each to do so equals 12hours non-stop)
    Thanx

  • I had to replace my hard drive how reinstall imovie

I had to replace my hard drive and now I don't have imovie or iphoto.  I have backed up my old hard drive but I am not sure how to install apps and retrieve my old data.

  • Second Hard Drive - What Logic files can I move to it?

    Hey Gang,
I have a 160GB Int HD that I plan to leave alone (let all default files install where they may). I have a second 300GB Int HD that I would like to partition into 3 sections. Audio Files for recordings and such directly related to logic, Music Files for all my personal tunes and a Backup Volume for, well, backups. I plan on leaving most of Logic's files on the startup drive. Can I take the Logic folder inside my user>music folder and put in the 2nd drive? Do I need to use an alias or is it prefs?
OFF TOPIC: While I'm hear can anyone tell me the upgrade path to Pro from Express. Seems I missed the $500 rebate offer on Apple's website last month...boooooooooooo...
    Thank For All Advice,
    Dave Buckley

Off, topic, but very relevant. Dave you should back up to a physically different drive. If something goes wrong with your drive your backup partition will likely be just as inaccessable as the primary saves. I work in a computer shop and see a hard drive with serious problems almost every workday, most of the time I can recover the data, but the point of backups is to not pay for my time, or even worse Cherry Systems or some other real professional data recovery house. Believe me, the cost is very high, more than ten times the cost of a separate drive for backups. I just mention it since you are going to the trouble of making that backup partition, instead use that space for Audio and samples as well and get a FW or USB2 drive for backups. Also if you do it this way, your backup will not be in use nearly as much and decrease the chances of failuire of the backup drive quite a bit.

  • Hard Drive Crashed Reinstall iPOD Software

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can transfer all the tunes from my iPOD shuffle to my newly installed hard drive? I loaded the software to the new hard drive but I can't transfer the tunes from the shuffle to the new library.....

    Hi,
If you don't have copy of the songs then you may use the software anapod to copy the songs from the iPod to the computer.

  • Sarafi won't start up. Hard drive crashed, reinstalled Lion from Safe Mode. and Safari still won'topen. I get an error message. There are no files in the extensions folder.

How do I clear the error in Safari? I've reinstalled Lion 3 times and the error won't clear.

Well Apple Suupport is still tops in every book.
The fix for my problem was so ridiculously simple, I can't beleived it worked.
But somehow the mouse install disk (stuck in the drive) was disrupting the start up. I was instructed to take the batteries out of the wireless mouse.
    IT WORKED.
Not sure if anyone that's had this similar problem is using wireless devices, but take the batteries out of them, use plug in devices to work around the problem, eject the CD and if you luck out like I did, it'll work
Thanks Apple my faith is renewed
