Hard drive died, how do I re-establish a published calendar- from .mac?

I had (have) a published calendar on ical 1.5.5 on a workstation iMac. The hard drive died, but I can still acess the calendar from other workstations. A new hard drive is installed, and now I can subscribe to the calendar but not modify it. How can I regain control and make it a published calendar on my workstation again?
Thanks

Hi,
Subscribe to the calendar, then export it (File > Export). Save the exported copy. Delete the subscribed calendar in iCal. Follow these instructions to un-publish the calendar from your .Mac account. Import the saved version and re-publish it.
Best wishes

  • I'm out of space on my hard drive. How do I move move entire photo albums from iphoto and save them to an external drive to free up space?

I'm out of space on my hard drive. How do I move move entire photo albums from iphoto and save them to an external drive to free up space?

You do not move the albums - you move the entire iphoto library intake as a single entity
Make sure your external drive is formatted Ma OS extended (journaled) - then
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • Hard drive died -- how do I restore Library from Back up?

My hard drive died -- and a new one has been installed. I have a backup of my itunes as it was on the old hard drive -- but when I try to open it I get told:
"The file itunes.library.it cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes".
Some of the music is also on our ipod -- and other pieces on 2 iphones. I'm a little overwhelmed with how to procced.
Any advice on how to proceed in getting all the music back in one main location? Thanks!

*"The file itunes.library.it cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes"*
Have you had a chance to look at either of these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help:
iTunes for Windows in Windows XP or Windows 2000 doesn't open after upgrading
iTunes for Windows in Windows Vista doesn't open after upgrading
*Some of the music is also on our ipod*
iTunes will only let you copy your purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Hard drive died, how to get music off iPod

My hard drive died so I lost iTunes. I've reinstalled iTunes and need to move all my music from my iPod to iTunes. If I plug my iPod into my computer, will iTunes take all that music and create a new music library, or will it go the other way around and the new empty iTunes will remove all the music from my iPod?
    I hope that makes sense

Regular forum poster, Zevoneer, has written a very detailed list on your options of how to do this. I need to add one thing. Once you have recovered your library, PLEASE BACKUP YOUR MUSIC, so you don't have to go through this aggravation, again.
Wrong link, let me find the right one & re-post.

  • My MacBook air hard drive died how and where can I fix it?

I need some help my MBA hard drives died I do not have any clue what to do. I also do not have the original softwere. Please help

I'm confused as to why you don't know what to do. Is there some reason why you can't take it right back to where you bought it? You say it's first gen--you mean 2008? Do you have Apple Care?
If you are no where near where you bought it, you can take it into any Apple store, or to any Apple authorized dealer and they should be able to take care of it, or, if you have Apple Care, you can call the Apple Helpline. Apple will send you a box, you send them the computer and they fix it and send it back. If you have Apple Care you probably won't have to pay. If you don't, then you might want to know how much it's going to cost you.

  • My hard drive died, how can I get my pictures back from iPad onto a new library on the hard drive?

    Hi there,
I have a Mac Book, and as it's a little older, and was getting full, I moved my iPhoto library onto an external hard drive. This external hard drive was always plugged in, and iPhoto used it as it's store so to speak.
However, the hard drive has died which means I now have no access to any of my photo's.
As I sync both my iPad and iPhone to iphoto in it entirity, at the minute I have ALL my photos on both my iPad and my iPhone.
How can I recover the photo's onto my mac or new hard drive from the ipad or iphone? I don't dare plug either in at the minute as I don't want the Sync to remove the photos.
    HELP! Please!
    James

  • Hard drive died, how to eject CD?

    Hello,
My HD in my iMac died, or atleast that is my best guess since it has been laggy the past couple weeks and currently flashes a folder with a question mark on it. I still have a CD in the drive, is there anyway I can get that out before I take it to Apple Repair?

A flashing folder is not a sign of a hard drive that has died.

  • My Mac book pro hard drive died, how do I load a new OS onto my new hard drive?

I Have a friend trying to work on the computer but he is more of a PC guy. I have no backup discs and the hard drive was shot. I ordered a new OS (mountain lion?) and he said he could put it on the new hard drive. Problem is it's a downloadable OS. I guess apple doesn't put them on discs. Hopefully I'm overlooking something please help.

That model came with a disc to install OS X. Hopefully you've kept it. Otherwise you need to buy a Snow Leopard disc.
Alternatively, if you have access to another mac, you can download Mavericks for free from the App Store, follow these instructions, and then boot from the flash drive or DVD you just made by holding down the Alt key when booting up.
If you're not tech savvy or you feel uncomfortable making boot discs, your best bet would be to buy the Snow Leopard disc for $20 from the Apple Store.

  • I have installed a lacie porsche design 1tb external hard drive but how do I move things onto it so my mac speeds up

Hi Can anyone help? My Imac (about late 2008) was running very slow and I realised I had very little memory left on it so I was advised by the online chat buddy at Apple to buy an external hard drive. I have bought a lacie porsche design 1tb external hard drive which is great but how do I transfer things on to it so my computer works faster. I woudl imagine the buggest files I have are both photos and music (all bought form itunes).
Any help would be very much appreciated?
    Thanks

How much free drive space is there? Right click on the Macintosh HD folder (or however you may have renamed it) and select Get Info.
The OS needs around 10 GB for its operation, but not all of that room is necessarily always needed. Depending on how close you get to the edge, creating more free space won't necessarily do anything to speed things up. It can certainy happen, but it's mostly a myth that low drive free space is a cause of slowdowns. This applies especially to zombie suggestions you may often see here to clear a certain minimum percentage of the drive out.
My recommendation would be to keep 10 GB free, plus room for anticipated expansion of your own files. So a ballpark might be at around 20-25 GB, but your mileage may vary, depending on how you use the computer.
If you have at least 10 GB free, then I'd say low drive space isn't causing your performance issue. Of course, moving things out isn't necessarily a bad idea either, if it's really needed--but you do realize that whatever you move out to an external drive will need to be backed up as well.
First backup everything, as this may be a symptom of a failing hard drive. This won't exhaust all the possibilities for the causes of the slow downs, but here are some things to start with: Open Disk Utility and select the drive, not the startup volume. What does it say for SMART Status, verified or not? You can better check to health of the drive with the demo of SMART Utility.
Next, open Activity Monitor. It's in the Applications folder inside the Utilities sub-folder of the main Hard Drive folder ("Macintosh HD", unless you have renamed it.) Go to the System Memory tab and take a screenshot of the bottom section only. (Screenshot is Cmd-Shift-4.) To insert it into your post use the camera icon above. Being low on RAM/memory can cause these kinds of symptoms. Like this:
In addition, see if there's any process or application consuming an inordinate amount of CPU. How much CPU is idle?

  • My iMac hard drive died-how do I use Time Capsule to re-load new data to new Mac?

My old system was a Mid-2007 iMac running Lion. I'd like to set up a Mac Mini with the data from the old iMac. What options do I have?

use the migration assistant, which should be in the utilities folder of the mini.  follow the prompts, choosing the restore from TC backup.  If I recall correctly, it should ask you if you want the mini to inherit the backup from the imac.

My account shows my registration number on the adobe site. Can I just download the Creative Suite and put the registration number in when I get my computer repaired?  The other files aren't important, but I hate to think I spent all that money for the whole Suite and be out of luck on using it again.
