Hard drive drop out?

I'm really a newbie at all this stuff, so I could use the assistance...I'm running Logic 7 on the stock drive that came with my G5 Power Mac (7200rpm, SATA, etc), and when I run over 3 audio tracks on it the software drops out leaving me with a "Core Audo: System Disk too slow or Overloaded" type of error. I'm pretty sure it's not my RAM (I've got plenty), but is it possible that this program is "too hot to handle" for my hard drive? I'm not sure what to do to correct it. Should I buy an external? HELP!
G5 Power Mac 2.0Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1.5 GB RAM

"...and when I run over 3 audio tracks on it the software drops out leaving me with a "Core Audo: System Disk too slow or Overloaded" type of error"
If by run audio you mean record digital audio, then yes you should record to another drive. You would probably have success with a firewire drive. LaCie is one of my favorite manufactures although there are many drives out there that will do the job that you are looking for and then some.

Without a bootable backup/clone or a Time Machine backup of your previous Snow Leopard installation or a saved copy of Lion's install app, you'll have to upgrade your Leopard volume to Snow Leopard (10.6.6+) so you can waste another hour or more DLing the Lion thing again.

Well, let's hope that nothing was jiggled out of place when you were installing the new hard drive. Your optical drive may just be out of alignment or the disc you have is "dirty." Get a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol, then clean the disc as thoroughly as you can starting from the center and working outward in a concentric circlular motion. See if that helps. In particular clean the inner portion well.
If this does not help, then you have a problem. You have opened the computer yourself. That action voids all support from Apple. If you take the computer in for service the store may refuse to service the computer. This is not related to your now expired warranty.

My hard drive went out one of my Macs and I am trying to install logic studio on another Mac but the serial number is invalid. What are my options?

Check that the serial you are using is the correct one..
Typically the problem is either you are misreading the serial and therefore typing it in wrong. Check you are correctly entering zeros or O.. and so on....
    or...
You bought the LP9 upgrade version.... which requires the LP8 full serial as well.
If it is the LP9 upgrade serial.. (and not the LP9 full serial) you must enter your original LP8 full serial first and then the upgrade serial for LP9.. when it asks for it.
Failing that.. you can obtain a replacement serial from Apple.. using this form.....

How can I completely wipe the hard drive with out the Mac OS X disc? I don't need any of the info on the computer.

You can't unless you have a bootable system on an external drive you can use. Otherwise, you need either the original disc that came with your computer or a retail copy of Snow Leopard DVD. The latter contains 10.6.3, so your model must be capable of booting from that or an earlier version of OS X.
You can purchase replacement discs from Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Apple - Support - Contact Apple Support.
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.

  • HT1351 I recently had my hard drive wiped out by a virus and had to reinstall windows and itunes. When i hooked up my ipod it didnt automatically sync my songs on my ipod with the library. How do I do this manually?

I recently had my hard drive wiped out by a virus and had to reinstall windows and itunes. When I hooked up my ipod it did not transfer my songs from my ipod to my itunes library. How do I do this?

iTunes syncing is generally in one direction only, from the computer's iTunes library to the iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchsed from the iTunes Store).
However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your new iTunes library.  (Going forward, you should use a backup strategy, and include your iTunes data in what gets backed up.  Then, you would be able to recover your complete iTunes library, including things like playlists and ratings.)

  • My HP hard drive went out.

My hard drive went out on my HP and I tried to contact someone online but could not get anyone. I need to know what I will need todo its still under warenty I HAVE ONLY HAD IT FOR GOING ON 6 MONTHS. I am not satisfied with how everything is turning out I expected more form this company.
I am a very unsatified customer.

I suggest that you contact someone by telephone or email instead or try the online chat again. Hard disks are a warranty replaceable item.  Contact HP
You will need to locate the recovery disk set or USB recovery media that you created (when asked to) at the time when you first set up your notebook.  If you did not create a set then you will need to purachse a set from HP or an HP Partnet

  • Replaced hard drive, locked out of Windows, Recovery DVDs freezing?

My fiance has an HP Pavilion G61 laptop. He purchased it through a rental company back in 2010. Last month, the hard drive fritzed out and died on him. We had it replaced through a local computer repair store, as his laptop was no longer under warranty, but when we got the laptop back, Windows was not activated on it. We called them back and asked them to fix the issue, but after a few days, they discovered that the Windows code had been locked out and was unusable. We searched online for similiar instances and he was told to purchase the HP system recovery DVDs and run them, and that when the recovery was done, it would be back to factory settings and Windows would be activated. We received the discs in the mail after buying them from HP, and can get Disc 1 to run fine all the way to completion. Then we get to the "Insert disc 2" screen, and we put the disc in and...nothing. Absolutely nothing. It freezes on this screen every single time and does NOTHING. We're incredibly frustrated and he is talking about trashing the laptop because it's completely useless at this point. Can ANYONE help me out and tell me what is wrong and how to fix it?
For reference, it's Windows 7 Home Premium edition that was on his laptop.

I would test the hard drive and memory just to be sure there is not some hardware issue causing the problem with the recovery discs.
When you first power up the notebook, use the F10 key (tapping rapidly) to enter the bios and run the diagnostics. Post back any messages or errors please.
I can help you get Windows installed without the HP discs but is a huge undertaking and should be a last resort.
Also, Please post your full product Number for me.

  • How to access Time Capsule hard drive with out internet connection?

Basically I live in a four bedroom house. One of my roomates moved out who had the internet in there name. Now i dont have an internet access but I have the Time Capsule with a 2 TB hard drive that stores my whole itunes library. I have enough space on my Macbook Air to store my whole library. I'd like to move my whole iTunes library back to my computer and wipe the Time Capsule Clean.

If the Time Capsule is providing a wireless network signal, an Internet connection does not need to exist to move files from the Mac to the Time Capsule, or vice versa.
Log onto the Time Capsule wireless network
    Open Macintosh HD
Look for the Time Capsule icon under the SHARED heading on the left side of the window
Click on the Time Capsule icon and a folder named Data (unless you have renamed it) will appear to the right
Double click Data to mount the drive on the Mac's desktop
Open the drive on the desktop and you can drag/drop files over to the destination that you choose on the Mac.
Once the file transfer is complete, double check to make sure that the files are back on your Mac and everything is working properly. Then, you can erase the Time Capsule hard drive.

  • Im new to the iCloud and Mac in general. After experincing a hard drive crash out of the blue, I lost everything. I want to make sure this doesn't happen again. I show backups for my iPhone and my daughter's iPod but my mac doesn't exist. How do I fix tho

I'm new to the iCloud and Mac in general. After experiencing a hard drive that went out of the blue, I lost everything. I wanted to use the icloud to back my documents up. I went into the iCloud under settings but it only shows my iPhone and daughter's iPod. How do I get my Mac to back up too? Is there something I need to use to have the documents back up?

You cannot back up your Mac to iCloud. Even backing the whole thing up to another online service would be dubious because it would take a very long time. You should buy an external hard disk and back up to that - even better, buy two and use one to make a Time Machine backup and the other to clone your Mac from time to time, thus giving you a backup from which you can boot in an emergency.
If you wanted to back up a suitably sized selection of data to an online service there are a number of third-party methods available, some of which are examined here:

  • External Hard Drive Grayed Out?

External hard drive (Lacie) will not mount on finder. It shows up in Disc Utility, but the name is grayed out and when I click on "mount" nothing happens.
Is there any hope of getting that data back?
    Thanks!

Click on the Repair Disk button with that disk selected in the Disk Utility; if the Disk Utility cannot repair it, an utility such as TechTool Pro or DiskWarrior might be able to, or you can try using Data Rescue to recover data from the drive without repairing any errors.

  • Envy Ultrabook 6 Problem with recovery after hard drive failure (out of warranty)

    Hi
Please can someone tell me if it is true that to use HP factory recovery discs, the computer hardware has to be the exact same as when bought.
After wasted hours of trying to get recovery discs to work, I end up with the same 'Recovery failed@ screen and some unhelpful lines of code.
From reading various posts it appears that I have to have an HP replacment HDD of the same type as came with the computer. If this is the case, then the links on the support pages should say this before I shell out £39 for a set of discs.
To me a hard drive is a hard drive. I replaced a fried hard drive (1 month outside of warranty end) with a good brand replacement, but larger size. The discs will not load.
However I was able to load W7 form an iso file and get that to work. I need the recovery because I do not know how to set up the raid that allows quick boot on this laptop, and I don't have the time or any furhter inclination to get it to work.
Partly a rant, sorry, but am I right and is there any solution?
    Regards
    This question was solved.

    Hi !
From what I have read here, YES you can recover with a different(non-HP) harddrive. It just has to be the SAME size or bigger.
I would make sure that the laptop BIOS sees the new drive and set boot options to DVD in BIOS.
I don't have access to detailed instructions, but you can foun them here in this forum.

  • How do I sync my Ipod with a new Itunes after losing my old Itunes when my hard drive went out?

I had my itunes on one of my few computers that I have. The hard drive on the computer that I had my itunes on went out and I had to replace it, losing my itunes and other things, but I cared more about the itunes then I did with anything else. Now when I try to download itunes and try to sync my ipod, it says that if I sync it, all music with be replaced, and I don't want that. How do I sync my ipod to that new itunes without losing all my songs?
