Hard drive failed, Install OS 10.6.8 can't open App store

I lost both hard drives on my mac mini, mac book pro, I contacted you last week and asked for a boot disk Incident ID 702344536 After calling 4 times, the disks finally arrive and now the os installs, on the MAC mini, but wont on the Mac Book Pro. NOW I have 2 MAC's that are completely worthless, The mini boot's but I can't update my OS from the Mac Store; the error "You can't use this version of the application App Store with this version of MAC OX X or later."
These patches came from you.  So neither MAC is working. I can open a web page but I can get the update I need.
PLEASE HELP !
I contacted Support and You are so busy, The phone system Told me it was going to hang up.  Now my 4th call today.
PLEASE HELP !

You did not contact us. This is just a user to user forum where we try to help each other out. No one here works for Apple and as far as we know Apple do not even come here. Ring back the number you originally called on and ask for an explanation.

I got a flashing folder with a question mark. I got a new hard drive and upgraded to 4 gigs and can't open anything or reload the operating system? Help? FYI: I have been using boot camp with windows 7 and started getting a kernal_data_Page_error and it would reboot windows, i was trying to do a chkdsk on the next reboot, but thats when i started getting this issue. I have put in a new hard drive and went from 2 gigs to 4. I can not get the computer to do anything, even the monitor does not show anything now????

    Prep your new drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs,) then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.

  • Can not open app store on macbook pro/imac after installing Mavericks

I have just installed Mavericks on both a Macbook Pro and an iMac. I use the same Appleid on both.
But now I can not open App Store
I have tried clicking on the App Store symbol in the dock, starting it from the program folder in a Finder window, and starting it from the Apple menu. The result is the same: Nothing happens except that the menubar that was active before the attempt becomes inactive (dark). There is no App Store Window, and no App Store menubar.
I have one idea why this happens. I removed the "OS X Mavericks" from the list of downloads/purchases in App Store by misstake before I installed Mavericks. If that is the problem how can I solve it?

Ok, now it works again. I got a Notice that I could update some applications and I answered that I wanted to do that. Then, when I tried to start App Store the menubar showed up but no window. I choosed "Windows - Minimize", exited App Stored and started it again. And now it works - on both computers!

  • Internal hard drive failed - install Mac OS X on external firewire?

Hi, hope someone can help me.
The other day my internal hard drive in my MacBook started to click. I did a hardware test, and the drive now doesn't show up at all, either in the test or when I go to install Mac OS X.
Is it possible to buy an external Firewire hard drive, and install Mac OS X on it, even though the internal hard drive isn't recognised?
Here is the external hard drive I was going to buy http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Premium-External-Firewire/dp/B000F6SGB4/ ref=sr11/203-7120413-7742330?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1174334464&sr=1-1
Also, is there any thing else I need to know before I do this...
I need to boot from an external hard drive as I cannot go to an Apple store to get it fixed and I am not really in a position to send it off for repair, as I am at Uni.
    Thanks for your help!

You need to call AppleCare Support and get the hard drive replaced. None of the MacBooks are a year old yet, so they're all still covered by the original one year warranty. This sounds like a problem that should be covered, why bother with an external drive? If you're not willing to be without it, yes, you can install Mac OS X to a FireWire or USB 2.0 hard drive and run your MacBook from that.
    -Doug
P.S. If I were you, I'd spend the extra £15 and get the 320GB version of that drive. I'd get as big of a drive as you can!

  • I installed an update and now I can't open App Store or iCal.

I installed an update, but now when I try to open App Store or iCal, I get this error message:
"App Store cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure App Store works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."
I've tried restarting the computer, and I read that removing the programs from your dock and then putting them back could fix it, but neither worked. What's wrong and how do I make it work?

Same problem here. In fact, it started when I installed Mac OS 10.8.1. Since, everything was working super slow. Tried all the tricks that I've read here but nothing worked.
Had to restore my whole Mac from Time Machine. Then everything started to work smoothly except for one thing: App Store cannot open anymore. So I can't install the new Mac OS 10.8.2.
I've downloaded it from Apple, but it won't install. It says Mac 10.8.2 failed due to an error.
I just don't know what to do. So far, Mac OS 10.8.1 has been a giant nightmare to me. I'm a graphic designer who works on Macs for years and years so it's not that I don't know how it works.
    I'm hopeless now.

If the link doesn't work (most of them don't), just call HP and order by phone at either 800-474-6836 or 888-999-4747.
If for some reason, HP no longer has them, you can get them from this vendor for $27 + shipping.

    Hey,
I am sorry but Acrobat 7 is not at all compatible with Windows 8. For this, you will need to upgrade your Adobe Acrobat version.

  • Hard Drive Failed, New one Installed, Problems of course

Hellooo Everyone This is sort of a last ditch effort to see if I can fix this myself or if I am going to have to shell out 500 dollars to get my laptop back in working order. So I have a HP dv6-6140 laptop. A few weeks ago the hard drive failed and I purchased and installed a new one, ran windows 7 and have it on my laptop. When I try to hook up an ethernet cable to download and install the drivers for the laptop the ethernet cable is not recognized it says no internet connection blah blah blah. Ok so I downloaded the drivers to a flash drive and installed some of them onto my laptop, no changes.  So I was thinking of purchasing the recovery discs which im assuming include the drivers for the notebook for 35 dollars which is paltry in comparison to what I would pay if I took it to a computer repair shop, but how do I know that would work? I dont. I am looking for ideas or anything that I may be missing. I am not computer illiterate but I am not an expert. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks!
    Kelly

    Hi, Kelly:
On your model normally it is very important to install the chipset driver first and reboot before attempting to install the ethernet (wired network) driver.
The chipset drivers install some motherboard driver which I think enables the communication to the ethernet adapter.
The problem is, HP does not include the necessary chipset drivers for your model (which I assume is a HP Pavilion dv6-6140us Entertainment Notebook PC).
So...Download and install the AMD Chipset Drivers and reboot.  You want the first driver listed on the webpage.
    http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows%207%20-%2064
Then see if the ethernet adapter works again or reinstall the ethernet driver after you reboot the PC.
The parts list indicates your model comes with a Broadcom wireless/bluetooth card.
Here are the links to the drivers you need for that...

  • Hard Drive Fail after install Photoshop CS6?

Hi! I downloaded Photoshop CS6 six days ago. Three days later my hard drive failed... and now can not find the installation. The repair put my system back to a previous time when the computer worked fine. Did this erase the install???
    Thanks,
    CeCe1019

What is your operating system & version?
If Windows, how was the system reset - by System Restore?  Or a complete restore from backup?
While a System Restore will leave the installed programs in your Program Files, all registry data and system files will have disappeared.  So either way you will have to reinstall.

  • Failed hard drive, re-installing...

My hard drive failed about 1 month ago and i'm re-installing everythning now... FIRST... I can't remember where do 3rd party plugins belong, meaning what folder on my drive. I'm just re-installing everything to be sure, mainly SampleTank & Spectrasonics Trilogy. SECOND... When i navigate to my Logic folder by way of >users>home>library>application support>logic, it contains different data than if i go by
selecting the Volume in finder>library>app. support>logic... all the data info such as channel strip settings, samples and the such are in the second route, but my autoload song is in the first... what now, which is it? If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks

I can't remember where do 3rd party plugins belong, meaning what folder on my drive
You don't have to know: the installer knows - unless you're installing everything yourself manually, in which case the rule of thumb is:
    • what gets installed system-wide [for all users] belongs to the local domain, at the root of the boot volume: /Applications, or /Library, or whatever...
    • what gets installed for a specific user belongs to the user domain, i.e. ~/ [shorthand notation for /Users/you>.
So plug-ins are generally [but this is not compulsory] installed in the local domain - typically /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components - while your autoload file should be located in your own library folder - and the same is true for the channel strip settings, presets or EXS instruments you created for yourself...
This file system is designed so that everything would work the same whether it's in the local or user domain: it's all about sharing between users instead of duplicating common files.

  • Connection to external hard drive fails since installing AEBS 7.4.2

Since installing 7.4.2 the connection to my external hard drive connected to the AEBS fails. I have used this hard drive for backup successfully for quite some time and now since 7.4.2 this problem exists. If I shut off the hard drive and turn it back on I can sometimes make it through a complete Time Machine backup but sometimes not. The hard drive works perfect when connected directly to my MacBook. Any suggestions. Has anyone else had this issue since installing AEBS 7.4.2
    Thanks,
    Raine

Many people have experienced this problem. If you do a search for "7.4.2" you will find many posts. The universal solution seems to be to downgrade to 7.4.1. This is accomplished from AirPort Utility by clicking on Base Station:Upload Firmware while holding down the Option key and then selecting the previous version.

  • Hard Drive Failed Need Help!

Hey guys, heres my story. My hard drive failed last week (wouldnt go past white screen), took it to genius bar, they ran Disk Warrior and it seemed to fix it. As a precautionary measure I bought a 1tb external drive and backep up my system via time machine. Today my imac froze and I am having the same problem, wont boot past white screen. I am 2 months out of my warranty and need to know what is the easiest fastest and cheapest fix since I am a college student. Also are any of these options possible?
    1) Install OS X as a clean system and use my external HD to load my system.
    2) Buy another external HD and boot up from that?
    3) Buy another internal HD and have someone install it (not sure how much this would cost though)
If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it.

All 3 of those are possible however #1 and 2 are not favorable. I would suggest to first run a few tests to make sure that your hard drive is actually bad.
    1) The first test like Larry suggested is to boot up to your Mac OS install disk, but do not go through the installation process. Instead go to the Utilities Menu at the top and open Disk Utility. If your drive does not show up in the left hand column then the drive is likely bad.
    2) Insert the original iMac install disk like in step 1 but this time when you startup hold down the "d" key. This will load up the Apple Hardware Test. Run the Extended test. If it passes everything then this means your computer is ok just the hard drive is bad.
    3) However if in step 1 Disk Utility does see the hard drive first try Repairing the Disk. If this fails you might try reformatting the drive and reinstalling Mac OS X as the problem could be an issue with the system software.
    4) Which should actually be step 1 is to disconnect all of your external devices like hard drives and see if you still cannot boot. Keep everything disconnected during testing.
The problem is hard drive failures can be intermittent. One minute it works the next minute it doesn't even see a hard drive. Good luck though and let us know how it goes.

  • Hard drive failed, how can I reinstall Windows 7?

The hard drive failed on my dad's laptop.  Replacing it isn't a problem, but I'm not sure how to get Windows 7 back onto it.  His laptop came with it installed already and he doesn't have any backup discs.  Will HP send discs so that I can reinstall the OS?  I'd rather not have to buy a new OS.

    Hi,
You can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below.
