Hard Drive Renamed, Aperture Crashes

I recently noticed that the portable hard drive that I use to store my referenced photos in Aperture has been renamed to "20070605034" in the Manage Referenced Files volumes list (the actual hard drive name has not been renamed). Now, all of my referenced files stored on this drive need to be relinked.
The problem is that when I try to manage the referenced files and click on the "20070605034" volume in the list, Aperture crashes. I really don't want to have to re-import all my photos again, sort them, and apply adjustments. Has anyone had this same type of problem? Any recommendations on how to easily fix the volume reference?

You probably had the drive selected and inadvertently changed the name. Just select the drive and click once to activate the name then change it to what it was - usually Macintosh HD.

Unfortunately, that drive is long gone, probably back to the mfr. Drives are not returned when they are exchanged. You can go by and ask them, but the chances are slim to none.

  • I can't import photos from an external hard drive to aperture

. Nothing shows up after I select the hard drive in aperture. I can however import photos to iPhoto with this same hard drive. Why is this happening. I have been importing from this hard drive to aperture for a long time now and only had this issue today. I have restarted computer, unplugged harddrive. Any thoughts?

    Don't touch that one !
I was hoping that in addition to that there should be another device listed, namely the USB External HD you've got plugged into the USB port. It should show up something like this:

  • I had Itunes installed on 2nd hard drive and it crashed

I had ITunes installed on 2nd hard drive and it crashed. I tried to install a new copy of ITunes and it keeps looking for the ITunes that was on the one that crashed. How do I keep ITunes install package from looking for the old install.

No reason to. I always a cloned copy of my operating systems so I can reclone it back in case the the one I use dies.

  • Successfully upgraded to 3.3 Unable to backup to external hard drive. Aperture closes unexpectedly without error message.

Upgrade to 3.3 was successful. My library is stored on an external hard drive and I have vaults stored on different hard drives. Aperture seems to be functiong OK but I am unable to backup to my external hard drives. The application seems to go through the process of upgrading the library again and quits unexpectedly at step seven without an error message. Anyone come up with a work around before Apple sorts this bug out?

What do you mean when you say "unable to backup to my external drives"?  Are you updating your Vaults?  If so, are you able to create a new Vault?  If you are, create them and confirm that they work.  If they work, delete the old Vaults and keep the new ones.

  • My Hard Drive is Totally Crashed

    Hello,
I have an HP laptop (Pavilion DV6-3020ee ) with pre installed windows 7 home prem.
duo to a Hard shock, the hard drive has been crashed. I fixed it but i lose everything.
and by say everything I mean (windows + recovery + data + partitions), it becomes a piece of metal.
I contacted Microsoft support and they forward me to HP support.
I want my laptop back to me as I bought it in the first time with (Windows + Recovery + HP software).
    Please Advise.

Did you make your Recovery Disc set when you first got the laptop? You would have been prompted to make a set soon after setting the laptop up. If so boot from the first disc to reinstall back to original OS and software.
If you did not make a set give HP Support a call to see if they are still available.Select your country /region

my hard drive with library crashed, can i start on new computer with music on my touch

The easiest way to get back missing items?  Restore your whole hard drive with all your irreplaceable things like photos in about 20 minutes from the backup clone you make on a regular basis.
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer is designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • All of a sudden unaccessible imac internal hard drive, renamed "disk1s3"

    Hello,
I am having a very serious problem and I hope someone can help.
Yesterday I turned on my imac G5 1.8ghz running Mac OS X (10.4.10) and I got this message:
*"the disk you have inserted is not readable by this computer"*. Not having inserted any disk I just clicked ignore and restarted the imac. After the restart it looked like the computer frose, I could see my desktop wallpaper but none of the files on my desktop and then when I restarted again the computer I had the case of grey screen with the blinking question mark/file icon.
Knowing that this means that the computer can't find a startup disk, I restarted the computer and inserted the CD with the OS X and opened utilities manager from the CD.There I saw that the internal hard drive has been renamed "disk0S3" and the only info the manager was giving me was that it was not mounted, it's size and that it is mac OS Extended (Journaled) formated. I tried to repair it but I got an error message each time I tried.
I tried to restart the computer several times during the day and each time I had the grey screen/globe followed by the grey screen/blinking question mark folder. At one point the computer went into a kernel screen and frose.
I then tried to restart in target mode and use the utilities manager from my intel 2Ghz Macbook. In target mode the fans of the imac go nuts, it sounds like the computer is going to take off and then I get on the MacBook the *"the disk you have inserted is not readable by this computer"* message. There the manager recognizes the internal hard drive of the imac as "disk1s3" and gives me the same info as the OS X CD manager.
If I click on the icon of the hard drive "above" on the utilities menu, the manager recognises the imac as AAPL FireWire Target Media, it's size, it's write status, apple partition map but says that the S.M.A.R.T. status is not supported.
I shuted down and restarted in target mode but now, when I try to open the imac in target mode it goes into target mode but the MacBook freezes.
Now I must say that this happened out of nowhere. I didn't do any software update, I didn't perform any different task on the imac from the ones I normally perform.
I have so many important files in that computer I cannot begin to describe how serious the situation will be if I lose them all. I know I should back-up my files and I usually do but now it's been a while and I am really learning the lesson the hard way.
Please if someone can help I would really appreciate it.
I apologize for the length of the post but I tried many things before posting here and I thought that it would be useful to give as many details as possible to someone that could help.
    Thank you in advance

Welcome to Discussions - the fact that the S.M.A.R.T. status is not recognized and the flashing questions mark appear seem to indicate that your hard drive has failed. If you have access to TechToolPro or Disk Warrior, try to use them to check the drive status. This will likely not work, and I'm afraid your disk is toast.
You could try to remove the drive and put it in an external case and try to mount it on your MacBook, but I don't hold out much hope for that either. You can try using [Data Rescue|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/211375] to retrieve your data.
You can also take it in to Apple and see what they say. Please let us know how things turn out,

  • I am unable to erase hard drive after a crash, also cannot reinstall Lion because disk is locked.  There seems to be nothing else to do, suggestions?  Where do I go from here?

I downloaded Lion 100 days ago (conveniently after the 90 day tech support)  now my HDD has crashed and it gets stuck at the apple screen.  I then hold command R and go to disc utility try to repair, that doesn't work, and try to erase.  But it says error, cannot unmount disk.  I then try to reload Lion, but it says the disk is locked.  Okay, so do I need a new hard drive?  If so that's fine, I just cannot seem to erase this drive to reinstall lion.  Also, I don't have a disk to reinstall OSx, as Lion is done via internet.

Wow, thanks.  It did the trick.  So now I am confused, do you think I still need to take in my Mac to see if there are some problems with the hard drive, or do you think I'm in the clear.  I was going to get a new hard drive installed, because I thought that was the issue seeing as I couldn't access it during safe mode.

  • My recent iTunes purchases are not on my external hard drive (my pc crashed) can I get these purchases recovered?

My PC (aka POS***) crashed and I knew it was going to happen sooner rather than later, so I backed up my music onto an external hard drive. I failed to back up my music regularly and I have lost a month's worth of purchases. Is there any way to get the past month's purchases restored into my library, since they are in my purchase history? If so, how?

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Reformatting External Hard drive: Disk Utility crashes near the end

I recently updated to Leopard and emptied off my external hard drive and then wanted to (zero out data &) reformat it and start fresh so as to use it with the new Time Machine feature.
However, near the end of reformatting it with Disk Utility the progress just stopped and after giving it some time I did a force quit and sure enough it came to light that it had crashed. Since then I've tried again several times to the same result. I even tried doing it of the Disk Utility on the install CD and it crashed with one minute left!!
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated!

Use a more powerful utility such as DiskWarrior, or a product such as those listed here.

  • Hard Drive and IPod Crash at the same time

My hard drive crashed. I had some of the music backed up but not some recent itunes purchases. Also, my Ipod Mini died so I replaced it with the IPod video 30 gig version. Is there any way I can recover the music that I have already paid for? I go to check purchases and it asks for my Apple ID. My apple ID was the serial number of my dead Ipod mini, which I don't have any more and of course don't remember. How can I find out what my Apple ID was for the music I purchased? Some of those purchases are on my Ipod video so can I sink them back into my hard drive, or does Itunes overwrite everything in the Ipod? Thanks for your help.

  • HELP moving photo's from hard drive with aperture to hard drive with iphoto

I was trying to move the photo's from hard drive a with aperture to hard drive b and start using iphoto but I have had no luck. In aperture when I select relocate masters a error comes up and say's: unavailable master images cannot be relocated. Either offline or not found. I originally had the masters on a external hard drive, when I got divorced my ex took the external drive for her mac. I am able to view the photos but I don't know how to move them. Thanks

I think you're missing the point - it's a question of where the images are, and it sounds a lot like the images are on the hard disk you used to own.
Managed = you keep the images in the Aperture library
Referenced = the images stay where they are on the hard disk and they're indexed in the library.

  • Deauthorize CS6 Master Collection from a hard drive that has crashed

The hard drive in my MacBook Pro has crashed and I have ghotten a replacement drive and installed it.
I need to re-install my Creative Suite 6 Master Collection on the new hard drive, but I cannot activate it since it is activated on my crashed drive.
What's the best way to get this fixed? Is there a website I can visit to deauthorize the old copy so I can re-authorize the new install on my new hard drive?
    Thank you for your help.
    I'm running CS6 on a MacBook Pro running Yosemite OS X 10.10.

You need to contact Adobe Support thru chat and ask them to reset your activations (you are allowed to have two machines with activated installations).
