Hard Drive screw destroyed.
After trying to unscrew the upper and longest of the three screw which removes the black frame and allows you to take the hard drive out I destroyed it.That's mainly because of the screw drivers I bought for just $5 from OWC.Anyway,I finally managed to take the screw out but couldn't do it without destroying it.
So what I need now is that screw and actually asap!Does anyone have any idea where I can find that kind of stuff?Couldn't find anything googling aroung.
You're right,I should've thought of that myself.Panic didn't let me to!
Cheers and thanks
Nick

Hard drive screw fell out and doesn't load half the times. (t41)
I have a T41 thinkpad and i saw the screw on the bottom holding the hard-drive is gone. When i turn off/on computer it sometimes loads, sometimes is very touchy where if i bump lower right side it turns off hard-drive. What should i do?
Pull the hard drive out entirely, then push it back in as far as it will go...and make a trip to the local hardware store. I'm sure that $1 or less will resolve this issue.
Cheers,
George

Need hard drive screw part number for T500 please
I want to buy a spare screw for the screw used to screw the hard drive cover to the base of my T500 notebook.
Where is it possible to find the part number so I can buy this??
What IS the part number/name I should use??
Perhaps someone knows the specific size/dimensions/etc. required to buy an off-the-shelf screw??
I tried calling support but there is no way to speak to a human to explain what I'm looking for, which is unusual and specific.
Thank you, TomHi tlyczko,
The part number for the screw set is listed in the Hardware Maintenance Manual. You can buy them here.
Hope this helps, and come back and tell us how it goes!

I am expanding my Mac with additional Hard disks. I need to know the size of the screws used to install 3.5" (IDE/SATA) hard disks.
Specifics like thread gauge would be helpful, or even a good place to pick these up online.
Thanks!!!Your G5 should have extra mounting screws installed in the case next to the hard drive bay...just waiting for you to use them. If you're replacing your original drive you'll just re-use the screws from the old drive.

My computer crashed & the hard drive's information cannot be retrieved. When I get a new hard drive put into this computer, can I simply download Firefox, sign into sync & automatically retrieve my old bookmarks? Do I need to alter any account sync settings before doing this?
Did you go through the steps at [[How to update to the new Firefox Sync]]? If not, you are using the old version of sync and are out of luck. If you did, you are on the new version and you have a good chance of being able to log in and download your data.

I have already authorized the new computer using itunes.
If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod onto your computer. And here is a guide about how to transfer iPod music back to computer. Hope it helps. -
Hard Drive Tray will not fit after attaching hard drive
(From Davin Oishi)
Issue: After installing the hard drive onto the hard drive tray, the tray will not longer fit into the Smart Storage hard disk drive slot.
Using hard drive tray screws from the legacy NSS2000, NSS3000, NSS4000, or NSS6000 may encounter this issue.
Resolution: Be sure to use the hard drive screws that are supplied with your Smart Storage device. Smart Storage ships with screws for both 3.5" SATA drives and 2.5" SATA drives. If they are still on your Mac's drive then you should be able to add them back into iTunes via File > Add To Library

I went to the Genius Bar a week ago, and the guy helping me there was nice enough to help me save some money by telling me I could replace the bad hard drive my MacBook Pro had by myself. I bought everything I needed (hard drive, screws, external hard drive) and my computer won't boot past the white start up screen. It doesn't even show the Apple sign at the start up screen. How do I back up my computer so I can save all my music, school files, etc.? Could really use someone's advice on what to do! Thanks!
Ok, to be sure I understand what's going on. You were able to boot the Macbook from the existing "damaged" internal drive, and it has been backed up to the internal.
If that is correct, your internal drive is working. Just to be sure, try booting with the R key down. Then run Disk Utility to repair the internal drive. That drive may in fact be useable.
You should be aware that you cannot boot the MBP from a Time Machine back up.
Please post back so I am sure I am understanding the situation. -
Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated it from Lion to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?
cwhargrave,
have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome. -
Leopard re installation on new hard drive issue.
Hello,
Recently my girlfriend and myself took a vacation so we had to bring the Macbook of hers... Unfortunately the laptop fell out of the luggage and landed FLAT on the bottom. Looking at the Macbook we got the dreaded gray question mark of death! I actually am a network engineer at a company and fix many Windows computers so I tried my luck on this, but nothing. I decided to bite the bullet and took it to a local Mac repair shop and they told me the hard drive was destroyed, which I was grateful it was not the motherboard. I bought a 500 GB laptop hard drive to reinstall it myself (How hard can it be right?) and of course I run into the problem I am starting this thread for.
Whenever I put in the OS disk for reinstallation I of course am supposed to hold the Option key or potentially the C key for the disk. Nothing comes up...
I cannot boot to that dang disk to save my life. It is Leopard 10.5.
Being in an IT field for Windows I thought I could hook up the new hard drive with my jig and install the OS that way. Seems I did not know about Macs as I thought I did, as I could not do it.
I was wondering if anyone had the same issue as I am having trying to reinstall Leopard. Kind of didn't want to dish out money for a new Macbook (which we are) yet. Of course if you need anymore information I would be happy to give it. If it is a simple solution you have the right to call me dumb cause I don't care at this point lol. Thanks.
KurrmanHi Kurrman,
Is it the original 10.5 Install Disc for this Book, or a Retail Install Disc?

I need to know what the part number is for a replacment hard drive chasis - 8460p
I need to order a replacment chassis that the hard drive screws into for the 8460p, does anybody know the part number for this piece?
Hi:
You are going to have to contact HP for that--1-800-334-5144.
The only parts listed in the service manual are for the actual hard drives.

This is silly I know. But where on earth does one buy replacement hard drive screws for a powermac G5? I've not been able to find any vendors.
Hi, and a Warm Welcome to the Power Mac G5 Forum!
There are spare hard drive screws, if you haven't used them, in the G5 just to the left of the drive bays as shown in Fig 8 here
http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/g5/073-0851.pdf
If you need more, they are available here
http://www.welovemacs.com/9226253.html
May be cheaper elsewhere, or from your local AppleStore, etc. if you quote the part number.

Motion clip disappears while working in 3d
In Motion 4.0.3, I'm working in 3d mode with a clip I've dropped in a drop zone. I have also applied a False Color Filter to the clip. When I rotate the camera angle, the clip disappears. I think this has something to do with the filter. How can
