Hard reset before or after update?

With v2.1 apparently being released tomorrow for the n97, i just wanted to know what's recommended, resetting before, after, or both?

I'm coping here what the Nokia update team recommended: Please see the the text in red, it says after
Using your PC to update
Initially, this software update is only available through the Nokia Software Updater. Due to wealth of new content available in this release, the over-the-air "FOTA" packages are larger than normal (around 17MB) and to allow for sufficient testing, delivery will be slightly delayed.
Backups before updating your Nokia N97 are not essential, but to help you get the most from your new software, we recommend that you sync your device or make a backup excluding settings before updating. After the update, reset your device by keying *#7370# and enter your lock code (default = 12345). Then you can resync your device and restore your backup. Finally, visit Ovi Store to download the latest versions of your favourite applications.

  • Should I repair permissions before or after updating to Mac OS X 10.7.2?

    Hi,
Should I repair permissions before or after updating to Mac OS X 10.7.2? or should I fix permissions before and after the update?

This is not a routine maintenance. Upgrades can be screwed up if the system that is upgraded is screwed up. I believe in a "better safe than sorry" approach. If you repair permissions and the hard drive prior to an upgrade then if there be a problem perhaps that problem will not propagate to the new upgraded system. If there are no problems doing the repairs is harmless.
When it comes to the topic of permissions repairs there are many opinions but not much fact. In other words there doesn't appear to be a formal analysis of whether repairing permissions is only useful when a permissions problem arises. But there is a lot of anecdotal evidence suggesting that a repair both before and after a major system upgrade can reduce the risk of problems.
This is my opinion on the matter. I do not generally disagree with Niel or MacJack, but as I said I prefer to be safe rather than sorry.
    Here's my general approach:
How to Install Lion Successfully - You must have Snow Leopard 10.6.7 or 10.6.8 Installed
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.3.) if DW cannot fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the backup volume. Source means the internal startup volume.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade to Lion:
Purchase the Lion Installer from the Mac App Store. The download will start quickly. Lion is nearly 4 GBs so a fast internet connection is essential. Download time could run upwards of 4 hours depending upon network conditions and server demands at the time.
Boot From The Lion Installer which is located in your Applications folder.
    Follow instructions for installation.

  • Repairing permissions before and after updating software

What is the reason to repair permissions before and after updating software? This may sound like a stupid question to many of you, but I am new to computers and I am trying to learn how and why of some of the things of my PowerBook. I installed some updates without repairing permissions. Did I install some software updates the wrong way? Thank you.

This is a topic which will draw as many emphatic for and against responses as overnight shut down or not, defrag or not, optimise or not, and so on.
I agree with Neil. I believe that OS X has progressed sufficiently that repair permissions has become redundant and so I do not do it on any regular basis.
Some folk may refer you to an Apple Support Article 303602. That Article in its 4 May 2006 version, titled "Top 10 Tips to Keep Your Mac in Top Form" suggested Repair Permissions should be done "after upgrading or installing new software". The Article was however revised on 15 May 2006 to be titled "Top Tips to Keep Your Mac in Top Form" and the item on Repair Permissions [along with two other recommended maintenance tips] was removed. It is my view that the conclusion to be drawn here is that Apple no longer considers Repair Permissions to be a required maintenance procedure.
Many users have adopted a "Repair Permissions" mantra for a cure-all over several years. I dropped it sometime in 10.3.
    But, to each his own.

  • Oracle Alert: Access before and after update values of a table column

We have a requirement where a notification needs to be sent when 'END_DATE' attribute (column in a table X) is set, in an Oracle Applications form.
I have defined an Event based Oracle Alert which fires 'On Update' of the table X.
Could anyone please let me know as how to access the value of 'END_DATE' before and after update (i.e :new.END_DATE and :old.END_DATE) in the sql query of the alert.
The need to use the before update and after update values of the attribute 'END_DATE' is that if we add the condition END_DATE is not null, the alert is sent even if any other attrbutes are updated in the Oracle form which is not the intended behavior.
    Appreciate any help.
    Thanks

    Hi
use selectionlistener for your first table then add clientlistener and serverlistener so that you will get the rows on click in back bean.
then get second table vo and and create and add row for that view object. add partial target to refresh your second table from back bean.
on click of save call commit operation.

  • Triggers before and after update

    Hi
I would like to add triggers before and after update for the following code. I would be thankful if someone give some guidance
    update per_all_people_f a
    set start_date = (select min(effective_start_date)
    from per_all_people_f a1
    where a1.person_id = a.person_id)
    where person_id in (1114,115);Thanks
    anna

    Hi
I was unable to answer you. I agree with Peter . Also i want to add
that in HRMS you should check what triggers are already on that table and be carefull with creating your own one. With your own trigger you can influence on some application logic you know.
( And i hope that is a table first of all :) - but as i know _F at the end of table name means table  )

  • Error uploading file to web before and after updating

    Hi,
I'm running adobe muse on a mac 2013 yosemite. I changed from the original version of adobe muse to the 2014.2 version, just to let you all know.
Earlier today, I woke up and one of my two websites I've created in the original version of adobe muse had lost the information required to upload to FTP Host. I retyped in my information, and it started to upload my website. Eventually it hit the 61% mark, and said that it was "connecting to the FTP host" for a really, really long time. I waited about 20 minutes- nothing happened. So I then decided to update adobe muse to the 2014.2 version.
After updating, I tried uploading my site to the web again. I put in virtually the same information as before, and now I'm getting an error message saying "Could not sign in. Check your network connection and try again. If this problem persists, try again later."
Can anybody help me here? My website is hosted by GoDaddy.com, just to let you know.
    Thanks in advance,
    Gavin

Muse 2014.3 was released last week , please tr y to update Muse and then check.
    Thanks,

  • Update iTunes before or after updating iPhone?

I can't seem to find this answered anywhere on Apple's site.
I'm on iTunes 7.5. When I plug in my phone and check for updates it says 1.1.3 is available for download.
Is it safe to run the update from 7.5 or should I install 7.6 first and then mount the iPhone?
Presumably 7.6 just adds the movie rental capability? Can I do without it altogether and still have 1.1.3?
tbh I may wait on 1.1.3 if there's a problem with order of sms messages, but the new features look worthwhile, especially if some bugs in Google maps have been fixed.
    Thanks for any advice

Yes, it is safe to update your phone using iTunes 7.5.
The update supposedly requires at least iTunes 7.5 or above however I used iTunes 7.4.2 and everything worked fine.
If you decide to update iTunes to 7.6 I recommend you update your QuickTime first to 7.4 then iTunes. As always repair permissions both before and after the install if you are on the Mac OS.

  • Backup hard drive before or after upgrading?

I'm working on a Mac OSX 10.5.8 Leopard in Adobe CS4 Design Standard and I'm about to upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8 and Adobe Creative Cloud.  The question is when do I backup my hard drive  - before, somewhere in the middle or end of upgrading all of the programs?

I would wait until after updgrading the OS to install the desktop applications that come with the Creative Cloud.
Not sure how many backups you want to make but you could back up at each stage.

  • "GRUB HARD DISK ERROR" possibly after update

    Hi!
I rebooted my com to a GRUB HARD DISK ERROR after fiddling with wine and updating through pacman. Even the grub menu isn't shown... it just stuns there. Previously, I killed X server a few times using Ctrl+Alt+Backspace... i suspect maybe pacman was still updating when i did that or sth.
However, the files on the disk are still accessible, when i booted with knoppix. Not really sure what caused this. Any ideas greatly appreciated...

Managed to get in fine with super grub boot disc. Any idea how i should proceed? Reinstall grub or sth?
My pacman log shows that there had been a successful kernel update and...

  • IPad 2 cannot connect to Wifi before and after updating  PLEASE HELP

i have been using iOS 5.1.1 till today.. the connection to wifi stopped working.. it slowly faded away and today i woke up and could not connect to My wifi at all, i have decided to update my iPad to iOS 7.0.4 but the problem is there
    what should i doo ??

It could be a problem with your WiFi router or your iPad.
If you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPad. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPad on some other WiFi networks: a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is probably with your network. Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPad does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. You could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings to see if that corrects the problem. If not, contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPad is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

  • IPhone hard to read screen after update

updated iphone to ios7 and now cannot read the screen.  Have inverted but the faint text is so hard to see

There's also an option under Accessibility for Bold Text which I turned on and it helps me.
And under General you should see an option for Text Size where there's a slider to make the text larger or smaller.

  • Cannot connect to itunes store before and after update ios 8.2,  What can i do ?

I updated to iOS 8.2 about 2 hours age and I get an error saying "cannot connect to iTunes Store" every time I try to update existing apps or download new apps. I restarted my phone, disconnected from wifi, reconnected to wifi...nothing is working. Under iTunes & App Store settings, I signed out and now get the "cannot connect to iTunes Store" message when trying to sign back in. I know my Apple ID and password are correct.

Based on the numerous posts regarding iTunes and the App Store, there appears to be an issue at Apple's end. Although Apple has not provided any indication on the cloud status page.
    Do not change your settings.

  • Couldn't and can't connect to iTunes or game center before and after updating to 8.2

Okay so i was playing clash of clans and signed out of my Game Center and when i went to sign back in I was given the error saying there wasn't communication with the server. I tried signing out of iTunes and back in and that wouldn't let me connect. Does anybody know how long this is going to last?
