Hard resetting a nokia 1020, some questions, mainl...

Hi,
im having problems with my Nokia 1020, it hasn't got space, i remove apps and games and in one or two days the problem arises again, i don't know if i have two much photos and/or if it is a problem with bad-behaved apps with banners.
Anyway, i want to hardreset it.
I've already read:
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/how-to/wp8/settings-and-personalization/reset-my-phone
and:
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/how-to/wp8/settings-and-personalization/back-up-my-stuff
It seems pretty stray forward... but i would like to ask if i create a backup, during restore i have the option to carefully select what is restored?
Is the main interface backed up, with all the links?
Questions about 1020 photos and onedrive:
- how do the photo files work on 1020? Does my onedrive account have both the 34 and the 5 mb version?
(- if i want to create a 5mb version of a 34mb, has the phone software the ability to do that?)
- does onedrive account has all the files that my 1020 has? Because my 1020 has 17gb of photos, and my onedrive\images folder has 5gb...
- admiting that it has a full backup of photos, can i delete them on the phone without deleting them from onedrive.com / my PC's onedrive folder?
- is there a simple way to compare photos over the phone and on PC or onedrive.com?
I ask this because in my computer (and online) i have organized then with folders, and videos that exist appear near them, but in my phone i can only see the photos organized by date - so it seems difficult to confirm that they are both equal.
Thanks and regards

Hi @Lrmmf_ ,
If in your shoes I would secure a backup through USB to a PC before proceeding - not to the OneDrive folder on the PC - but somewhere else on the hard drive for safe keeping. There are too many variables regarding the settings on the phone used while taking the pictures and recording videos. Altering the settings regarding backup resolution only works for pictures and videos recorded after altering the setting. Clearly not everything is backed up to OneDrive when you have 12GB more on the phone than in the cloud, most likely the full resolution images are missing.
The restore after a factory reset does not restore pictures and videos to the phone. Those already uploaded are safe in the cloud and can be accessed via the OneDrive app on the phone. Lumia Black required a lot of work after a restore and i.e. games progress were not backed up. This has changed with Lumia Cyan, but there will still be some manual work after a factory reset and restore.
I suggest spend a rainy day to first backup all media files to the PC, then still via USB delete the big resolution files and media files not needed on the phone. Then think again if the hard reset is needed at all? - There is now a Files manager by Microsoft in the store for Windows Phone, it is just easier to perform these tasks on a PC via USB.
Duplicates are better than missing files! I still have a lot of clean-up waiting to bring my local backups in sync with OneDrive, maybe it will never happen.

  • N8 Maps problem after hard reset

There have been some cases where users have used the 3-fingered hard-reset method on their N8 devices and lost Ovi Maps in the process. If you find yourself in this situation, you can now resintall Maps via the software update feature in Ovi Suite. For other apps, you may need to refer to your nearest Nokia Care point.
Please note that it is not wise in general to use the 'three-fingered suicide' as a method of troubleshooting issues with your phone, this procedure is intended to attempt to revive a device that will not boot, in which circumstances you already know that everything is going to be lost before starting.
If this or any post answers your question, please remember to help others by pressing the 'Accept as solution' button.

The following is an official statement from Nokia concerning this matter:
    You
should not use the "three finger" reset (pressing volume down + camera key +
menu key and pressing power button) to hard reset the Nokia N8-00 device. Doing
this will delete some applications (Ovi Store, Ovi Maps, some preinstalled
    widgets) which cannot be restored.
If the device needs to be reset, try the following methods
instead of the "three finger" reset:
Press down the power button for 8
    seconds.
Restore the factory settings by selecting Menu
    > Settings > Phone > Phone management > Factory settings >
    Restore.
The "three finger" reset should be used only
as a last resort if the device cannot be booted up in any other way.
    If
successful, the device can be used after the reset but some of the applications
are missing. The device needs to be taken to a Nokia Care point for reflashing
to get the original applications back in the
    device.

Just in case someone needs to reformat the Nokia N8, a Forum Nokia blog post describes how to do this. Excerpt:
How to Full Format your bricked N8?
Many guys here face the "brick" problem after trying to play with FontRouter. So I have to find the way to recover it and at last I found one. (And I have to warn you here that DON'T USE FontRouter ON YOUR N8 OR YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE)
Here is the method to full format and make bricked N8 come alive again:
    1) Turn off your phone
    2) Hold "Volume Down + Camera Key + Menu Key" and press power button until your phone shake
    3) Wait until screen show properly... and welcome back!!
Please note that I found these problems after doing full format:
    1. I lost Ovi Maps. However, you could reinstall it by download it here
    2. I also lost Ovi Store 2.0 and I can't reinstall it since it always show "Unable to install".
So please DON'T do full format if not neccessary or actually I must say that DO IT ONLY AS YOUR LAST CHOICE.

  • N900 Hard reset

    Hello,
I've read the article about the N900 hard reset and I have a question I do hope you could answer:
Once acquiring the operating system files according to the version of the device:
According to my Nokia I need to download the "Latest Maemo 5 USA variant for Nokia N900" OS version, but I was wondering if something will go wrong if I install a different os, such as the Latest Maemo 5 Middle East and North Africa release for Nokia N900.
Will that solve any regional/language problems I'm experiencing with the N900?
Thanks for anyone who could answer this question.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Right you are!
I installed the one for Middle East anyways. The flashing process was a synch
My basic problem with the N900 is with the language interface settings.
I've reviewed the Maemo guide about how to enable the Hebrew language.
I installed the Hebrew hardware layout and it works flawlessly. However, If I want to install the add-on keyboard layout as well (Ukeyboard), it mixes between English and Hebrew (which could be quite frustrating as I do sometimes write in English and in Hebrew).
So... I'm left with a choice either to install the Hebrew hardware layout and type on the keyboard, or have the choice of installing the on-screen keyboard and using it to type. Installing both creates a somewhat conflict with the language interface.
But I guess I can deal with that and get by
I just really like the device

  • Hard reset asha 201

Hello, I have tried hard resetting my Nokia asha 201 with key combination (the only way I can do it). I used shift+backspace+space+red/drop call; and tried 3+*+green/pick up call+red/drop call while turning on phone. But none of them seem to work. What is the key combination to hard reset it?

  • Can someone send me the hard reset for my non black printing HP 5510

Like others my 5510 has stopped printing black. I see a hard reset has worked for some members . Also are the printer heads removable for cleaning on the Photosmart 5510  thanks

Hi @MikesHPname and welcome to the HP Forums!
The hard reset for a Photosmart 5510 is the same as for any printer, simply unplug the power cord from the rear, wait at least 30 seconds (unplug the cord for the wall as well for best results) before plugging the printer back in.
The printhead in the Photosmart 5510 is not removable.
I'd like to see if I can lend a hand here though, have you tried the steps within this Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink document? If not, let me know what country you're in and whether the printer is in or out of warranty and I will certainly do my best to help you get this resolved

  • Nokia N8 maps problems after hard reset.

I quote the sticky with the same title
    quote
There have been some cases where users have used the 3-fingered hard-reset method on their N8 devices and lost Ovi Maps in the process. It is not yet possible for N8 users to redownload the application from nokia.com/maps, a situation that will be fixed in the near future with a new release of the Maps application.
In the meantime, if you find yourself in this situation, please contact the Nokia Care line for your country, copies of the necessary SIS installation file have been distributed to contact centres to pass on to N8 users until the Maps web page is updated.
Please note that it is not wise in general to use the 'three-fingered suicide' as a method of troubleshooting issues with your phone, this procedure is intended to attempt to revive a device that will not boot, in which circumstances you already know that everything is going to be lost before starting.

So I went to the local Nokia care line center nearby.  The technician told me in order to re install Ovi Maps on the phone I had to leave it for a few days under repair.   When I mentioned that it was purely software installation (and I only needed the SIS file) and not a technical repair and I could not leave my phone behind for several days the manager mentioned this was Nokia policy.  Obtaining the SIS file was not possible.
The manager himself mentioned "that is why I use an Iphone" and me as unpleased customer left this Nokia "we do not" care line center.
So be aware the if you want to have the ovi maps app reinstalled on the phone, it could well take a few days.
    Nomic.

Perhaps if you go over to Nokia Beta Labs: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-306
and ask nicely in the correct thread, you might find that kee takes pity on you. However since release of .sis file to Nokia Care Points whom can't be bothered with N8 woes as they consider carrying out a "hard reset" an own goal, they (Nokia Beta Labs) might now expect resolution via this method.

How do I format my Nokia device?
You can format your device by typing *#7370# in standby mode. Before the device is reset, you need to provide the lock code. The default lock code is 12345.
    IMPORTANT NOTICE!
Formatting the device will permanently erase all user data and settings as well as add-on applications and operator specific settings.
If you have made a backup of the device data, the data can be restored from the backup after formatting but some add-on applications can have restrictions that they are not restored from the backup.
If you use formatting to repair faulty behaviour of the device, restoring the backed-up data files may restore the unwanted behaviour as well. In that case, a partial restore may resolve the situation.
The contents of the SIM card and memory card (MMC) are not erased during formatting. Note, however, that in some device models (e.g. Nokia N8-00) the mass memory is formatted in this situation and it is therefore important that you have backed up all the data from your mass memory (E: mass memory) before resetting the device.

  • Nokia E71 hard reset and then....

Hi community, what happens is i perform a hard reset on my nokia e71, will i lost some software (that originally came with the phone)? or everything remains the same as when i bought it brand new?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

@ Smorrissey, if I understand you correctly, then we agree that grschinon is the one beeing correct here.
@ Other users who search for help in this thread: Oposum is beeing a troll and should not be paid attention to. (I assume that oposum is refering to the "reset settings to factory default" manouver which would be *#7780# )...
people please understand, a sofware reset is provoked by software, a hardware reset is by hardware BOTH restore your phone to the brand new status.
If you only want to restore your settings the procedure is different.
Grschinon has already explained that in the posts above.

  • Nokia 700 hard reset

So this evening I backuped my phone and did a hard reset. It said that it will restart phone. I pressed okay and it turned off the phone and screen went black. Waited 5,10,15mins. Nothing appears on the screen and I can't even turn it on. Removed battery and put it back in and then it starts booting up [about 30-50seconds but usually it's faster] and then goes black screen like it's turned off.
    Any way to fix this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The reset method above is not intended for public/general use to reset your phone. I is reserved for use as a last resort for a Nokia Care Point or repair centre before a flash of the phone to be able to bring it into a working state if it is not. This reset _will_ remove or make unusable some applications or may make the device become unstable.
The only two user-applicable options are:
Soft Reset; *#7780# possibly followed by security code (default is 12345)
This will reset the device settings to defaults. It does not delete any personal data or system files.
Hard Reset; *#7370 possibly followed by security code (default is 12345)
This will erase all custom data and return settings to default values. It will not change the system files.
If you used the key-combination method it would be a good idea to visit a Nokia Care point where they will be able to restore the original firmware (latest available version for your device) including apps or system files which will be removed using this reset method. This may not be covered under warranty though and will completely wipe all information from your device so make sure you create a backup in Nokia Suite before you have this done.
    Hope this helps,
    Kosh

  • Missing Widgets after Hard Reset - Nokia Astound

Hi ~ I had to do a hard reset as my Nokia Astound was freezing up. The phone is working better but it deleted all of my data, of course. Now some of the widgets are gone as well - such as the Social Network one, You Tube and Visual Voicemail. Any way I can get these back? Thanks so much!

I know the pop up you are refering to. You had some applications installed on your memory card before the hard reset. The hard reset broke the link to those applications on the memory card which the phone then tries to restore after the the reset. My advice is to either reformat your memory card and reinstall everything from scratch or ignore the pop up, go through all yor apps, see which ones aren't working and reinstall them.
There is no need to do a factory reset after a full hard reset. See if that solves your profile issue.
