Hard return key problem

I am having a problem with my return key. For some reason yesterday it just stopped working. I can use a soft return( Shift + return) but not a hard return (just using the return key) Is this a phyiscal problem or a software issue? Any suggestions?

Doesn't take much, often just a tiny drop if it finds it's way into the wrong place. Did you try another keyboard? Any USB keyboard will work. If it's a PC keyboard the command, option and control keys will be in different places.

I have been having an problem recently where my shift key will sometimes type capital Y for o apparent reason, and also my return key will enter a backslash. how can I correct this? it happened to me once before. I had to reinstall clean

Recently my shift key has been for some unknown reason ben typing capital "y" when I use it, and YYI don't know how to stop it. Also my return key has been adding a backslash after the return, and I am unsure how to remove that as well, I had this problem aout 6 months ago, and I had to wipe the drive and do a clean install before it fixed. I would not want to do that again, if at all possible.

Problems with Return Key (only in certain apps)

Hi. As of this morning, my return key is having a particular problem. When I am given a choice, after quitting Word before saving a file for example, and the default choice is highlighted, when I hit the return key nothing happens. It's as if the app doesn't recognize the stroke at all. However, the return key works fine in its other normal functions.
This problem is happening across the board, whenever I'm prompted by a program to make a choice. Any clue what might be causing this?

I would run Disk Utility -> Repair Permissions.
See if that helps.

Enter key not producing hard returns

Suddenly, my enter key is producing soft returns instead of hard returns. After trying to fix it for hours, I found out that hard returns are produced only with the alt+enter keys. Somehow they are reversed. What can I do?

To enable the enter key one uses shift+return and that gives you a soft return. If you want a hard return just press the return key.

My "return" key doesn't work

My "return" key no longer works on my keyboard. When I first started having issues with it, I'd have to make sure to hit the key in the center in order for it to work. Then, that was only working sometimes and I'd have to hit the key pretty hard to get it to work. Now it doesn't work at all. It was never sticky or anything like that, it just seems to have gradually stopped working. It's the only key that I have a problem with, but it's a pretty significant one. For many programs, I'm able to get by using the enter key instead, but that doesn't work for all programs. I was wondering if there was an easy fix to my problem since I don't really have the extra money to replace the keyboard.
I'm not sure if this is a related problem or not, but in January, my ibook crashed. I could not boot it up without getting the kernel error. When I tried booting it up from the OS disk, it didn't recognize my hard drive, but my hard drive was still recognized in the Disk Utility. I was able to reinstall the OS, but lost everything in the process. The same thing happened again in April. It was around May that I started having the issue with my return key. I've had my iBook since January of 2003 and never had a single problem until this past January.
Any help/advice/etc. would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried cleaning underneath the key? Sometimes things get stuck there and the key becomes inoperable. I've used canned air, tweezers, and a small paintbrush to do the job.
Changing the keyboard is not difficult; in fact, it it one of the few Apple approved DIY repairs. If cost is an issue check on eBay for a replacement.

Return Key no longer works in sql windows or procedure editors.

The <return> key no longer works in my SqlDeveloper editors. Is there an easy fix? I tried resetting the Option for the carriage return but it did not change anything.

So if you go to your shortcut keys (Tools > Preferences > Shortcut Keys) and search for "Enter", what commands are associated with the Enter shortcut? If you have tried remapping the Enter key to something else, it may have removed the standard association with the "Insert New Line" command.
You can reset to the default (which should fix the problem, but lose any custom shortcuts) with More Actions (top right) > Load Keyboard Scheme > Default.

Erroneous behavior of return keys in Indesign CS5

Strange and reproducable serious error of Indesign CS5: Pressing the main return key within a text paragraph doesn't enter a line break but a "new column" break making all text below disappear (and being pushed to the next column or linked text frame), pressing the enter key of the numeric pad strangely enters the "end nested paragraph here" symbol. Trashing preferences (via holding Shift-ctrl-alt-cmd on startup) doesn't help. I managed to get the main return key to work through a custom keybord definition, but it doesn't work with the enter key of the numeric pad (the last key on the bottom right).
I'm using the trial version of Indesign CS5 on Mac OS X 10.6.3 in German and expect the master collection package I ordered in the mail every day - would be great if Adobe provided a fix to this problem soon.
Am I the only one experiencing this problem and is it somehow connected to my particular installation or is this a common error?

Backspace and return keys make phone inoperable

Whenever I try and try to make a correction using the backspace, the backspace does not stop and erases the entire message. Or if I hit the return key, it doesn't just return to the next line, but repeatedly returns making an infinite number of new lines.
Basically this problem makes the text, messaging, emails and so on useless - I can read things, but can't use the key board at all.
I have tried every setting I can find on the phone, nothing seems to correct this.
What is the fix?

I had a similar problem with the backspace and the letters A and P it was so annoying.
The fix is simple:
Go into Settings > Accessibility > Magnify > OFF
This should solve the problem. If not then you have a different kind of issue.

Automatic Row Processing (DML) - Return Key Into Item

This question is on Apex 4.2:
I'm Displaying the [UNIKEY] column value after the record is inserted into the table using :
page process > process row table_name > Source: Automatic Row Processing (DML) > Return Key Into Item > "Item Name"
This works fine while inserting records, my question is why this does not respond on update / delete ?

Check your branches.
What might be happening is that on insert and update an other branch is followed.
Where the branch of the insert either isn't clearing the cache of the page or is setting the item with it's own value.
The branch on the update on the other hand is clearing the cache of the page and not setting the item.
With a delete there is a clear cache process generate by the wizard. Check if this process is only running on the delete and not on the update.
From memory the process is called something with reset.
If the above doesn't help try to replicate the problem on apex.oracle.com and give access with a guest developer account so we can have a look.

Return Key doesn4t make my defined KEY-ENTER trigger to fire.

I4ve found that the trigger that fires when I press Return is KEY-NEXT-ITEM,but this doesn4t resolve my problem,because the tab key also fires this trigger.
I want to navigate within textitems with the tab key and that when I press return key make an action on the values entered in the items.

You have to perform key mapping to get the Key-Enter trigger to work.
Open your forms90\fmrweb.res file in a text editor. Find the line:
10 : 0 : "Return" : 27 : "Return"
Change it to:
10 : 0 : "Return" : 75 : "Return"
Save the file and run the form again. The key-enter trigger should then fire when you press the Return key, but not when you press the Tab key.

Enter vs Return key?

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I was wondering - what is the difference between the return key and the enter key on my keyboard? For me - I hardly ever use the real "enter" key near the command key. I always use the regular enter key above the shift, but yet it is actually a "return"? I also noticed that holding the FN key while pushing return makes it the "enter" key because it is in the gray font on the key. Any info on the differences of these keys? Thanks!

Not that I can tell (usually). It may make a difference in some applications, but I always use the Return key, too.

I set my default to Calibri 14, but every time I press enter (I make a lot of bullet lists) the font changes to Calibri 11.

Did you change the default font after you typed a few words in a note container?
Setting the default font in Microsoft Office OneNote affects text that you type in new note containers only. It does not affect existing text or text that you add to existing note containers.
If you want to change the font in an existing note container, you need to change it manually under
Home tab > Basic Text.

Use Return Key to trigger function?

I've got a little form in a movieclip where the student is to
do some simple subtraction, then click the Record button to enter
the data into a table. Problem is that if someone types in the
answer, they naturally want to hit the Return key to enter the
data, however, it instead puts a carriage return in their answer
and when they try submitting with the Record button, it checks
their answer and it is now wrong since the added carriage return
does not match the answer they should have. Is there any way to
make the Return key trigger the recordIt() function? Here is my

Run quickSearch with the carriage-return key

I am using JDeveloper 10.1.2 and developing an application using ADF Business Components and JheadStart 10.1.2.
JHS built the application and i need to do some post-generation.
I need to run quickSearch with the carriage-return key.
To do that, i replace
