Hi, a month ago my laptop (on the back it says its a P300 M18) had a critical harddisk failure, now i finally got it back with a replacement harddisk but i have no clue how to reinstal windows vista which originally came with it again. (i don't remember it being on a cd or dvd) When i opened the laptop up i thought i was going to see the same installation process as when i first got the laptop, instead i get a black dos-like screen apparantly under Windows 98. the only thing i get is "C:\>" asking me for a command or filename. I'm lost, any help is appreciated.

  • Re: Qosmio F60/05M - PXE-E61 media test failure and harddisk failure

    Hi
    My problem is the computer freezes often and has issues with windows explorer. Also it will freeze when in games. I don't know if the issues are related but after freezing when it starts to reboot it will come up with a black screen reading;
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
When I press anything it just comes up with the same message. If I turn the notebook off by the power button and give it some time before turning it on it gives me the option to start windows in safemode or normal if I choose safemode it doesn't start. Also when I run the toshiba PC diagnostic tool the harddisk fails the test. It doesn't give me any explanation.
This problem has occurred a number of times over the last couple of weeks.
    The model is:
    Qosmio F60/05M PQF65A-05M02W
Any help would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Mick

    Hi mick,
    > Also when I run the toshiba PC diagnostic tool the harddisk fails the test.
This would be also my personal opinion that something is wrong with HDD itself I mean if the computer try to boot it access the internal HDD and start Windows but if the computer cant find the internal HDD it tries to boot from LAN
I think you should contact an authorized service provider in your country. The guys should check your HDD and replace it if it necessary.
Furthermore backup all your data if you didnt do this as yet. Therefore you can use an external USB HDD.

  • USB device failures and need to re-update under Windows 7 / Satellite A505

I'm having a devil of a time trying to get access again to a set of devices which worked fine under Vista-32 and backward..
Recent self-repaired problem, The laptop refused to accept a Garmin eTrex GPS via any other USB port except port 1 (the top-left port).. Attempts to attach it via ports 2 or 3, resulted in failure to read device, and Windows Device Manager reported the GPS asn an unknown device.  The fix to get it to accept the device on these ports, required uninstalling the driver to those two ports (plugging the device into either of those ports, when seen by Device manager, uninstall the device, unplug it, the plug it back in again.)  result now, all 3 ports will now accept the gps.
Now, an old device failure..  I have 3 different Prolific USB to Serial (rs-232C) adaptor cords, for connecting to older serial devicees. (older GPS's, external older computers, robotics projects, etc.)  as of yet, the above remove/replace method will not allow connection of these cables (yes, using the supplied drivers, and a few generic found online from Prolific themselves) and, likewise refuse to access the devices connected to them.
There is one other device, which uses another form of USB to serial (FTDI Chip, device is the Arduino microcontroller, which uses the FTDI D2xx chip to connect via USB) I'm surprised, is actualy in the installed Windows-7 driver library, as well as a Microchip PIC18C745 (Vellaman P8055 project board) (also native device under Windows-7)
I've tried to find a reliable Prolific driver, but as of yet, these devices (Including one used in Microsoft's labeled version of the Pharos GPS500 dongle, which is sold with Microsoft Streets & Trips 2009 (The driver for this one, on other computers has caused system crashes.. Even under Vista & XP)
Is this a problem with the laptop itself, or Windows-7 that I'm fighting?

  • Will adding a new OEM Windows 8 license to the system replace and free the current OEM license?

I have computer (computer A) with a Windows 8 Standard OEM license. I would like this computer to run Windows 8 Pro OEM, and move the Standard license to another computer (computer B).
Correct me if I'm wrong (and please confirm if I'm right), but as far as I've understood it the OEM licenses have changed from Windows 7 to Windows 8, and on Windows 8 they are no longer tied to the hardware. Therefore, I assume the license doesn't need the
manufacturer's special disc or recovery drive to install. (This is not really an issue, since I have the DVD anyway.) The Windows 8 license should thus be free to move around, as long as it's only installed on one computer at the time and is activated online.
There should therefor be unproblematic to move the Windows 8 Standard license from computer A to computer B, so that I can install Windows 8 Pro on computer A. If this is true, could I just buy a Pro license, go to Control Panel on computer A and add this license
with "Add features to Windows 8.1"? Will this Pro license then replace my Standard license, or will they co-exist somehow? Will the Standard license be free so that it can be moved to comptuer B after I have added a Pro license? I would rather avoid
formatting computer A, but I will format computer B.

I'm not aware that OEM-supplied/attached licenses are now able to be moved. Can you provide a reference for that theory?
OEM SB (System Builder) licenses, if you are building for yourself (i.e. not building to resell), *DO* allow transfer
    http://personaluselicense.windows.com/en-US/default.aspx
So, here's how I understand it:
    a) if you build your own computer, and purchase an OEM SB for that computer, for your own personal use, that license can be transferred to another computer.
    b) if you buy a computer which is already built and has Windows OEM attached, this Windows license cannot be transferred to another computer

  • Creating diskgroups and failure groups on windows

    Hi,
I have a Windows 32-bit with two drives of C: and F:. I have an Oracle database that I like to migrate to ASM. I ran the utility localconfig.bat with the add option which successfully started CSS services and installed ASM and started it up.
In DBCA I tried to create diskgroups but there is no way to do it. How can I create diskgroups and failure groups on windows?

You have to use the ASMTOOLG (or asmtool) program to "mark" the disks for use with ASM. Once done, DBCA should recognize the disks.
You might check out Julian Dykes powerpoint on installing RAC and ASM on Windows for more helpful info.

  • Backup Failure using OEM (Oracle 9i)

    Backup Failure using OEM
    I have oracle 9i (windows 2000 server)
I tried to make a fullbackup using OEM, it gives me NO error messages
I got result file with 890 MB (my Db is not huge),
but when I go back to the JOBs in OEM I found the status of the job FAILED
I tried to do the same thing using incremental backup level 0, but I got the same result
any Idea why the job didn't complete successfully
    thanx in advance

    Here is the deal.
I need to be able to work in the OEM for my class. (Oracle DBA in Training) It is a significant part of my grade to be able to find the required help through forums like these to help me get the backup/recovery process to work through the OEM. My books deal with the OEM in a Win2000 Pro/Server environment, and don't take into consideration the variances in XP Pro. My install works great, other than I am receiving a "Fail" on my OEM Backups under Jobs. It further explains that I do not have the proper permissions to perform the backup job that was created. My instructor is completely hands off when it comes to help. So if anyone has run into this problem and been successful in fixing the problem without using a different utility. Please let me know.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vic

  • Harddisk failure

    Hi,
I have a HP Pavilion dv7 notebook with Windows Vista 32-bits and had recently a crash which was solved without any problems.
But suddenly I get a windows message harddisk failure, backup your computer on the C and D.
C is my windows drive and D is my Rescue partion created by HP.
If I restart my laptop I also get this message.
If I run a diagnostic with the bios he doesn't find any errors.
Should I replace my disc or can it be repaired and if I should replace it, is my Rescue partion lost or can I create one on the new disc.
I have got the restore discs created when I installed the laptop.
The laptop is if I am correct bought in May 2009, I have no warranty anymore, I think, is it cheaper to do it myself or by HP ?

    Curious_HP wrote:
Can I also create a C and D drive with C my windows drive and D my Rescue drive as is installed by HP. What you are calling C
and D drive are actually two primary partitions on the same hard disk. Certainly you can do that.  You can also try making an image of the D: partition before the hard disk stops working and then clone it to your new hard disk.
Or can I only use the restore dvd's and will this install all software which was originally on the laptop such as Vista ? The Recovery dvds will install the operating system that was originally on the notebook
And should this restore be done on a disk of the same size or can this also be one larger. You can use a larger hard disk.

    Hi LamboMong,
    just try this:
    http://refit.sourceforge.net
install, reboot twice and choose the Windows-Partition on next startup.
(The apple-bootloader doesn't display all bootable harddisks.
With rEFIt you can boot from all partitions/harddisks on your computer.)
I hope that will solve your problem.

  • Trying to restore my Mac OS  after a hard drive failure and my password is no longer recognized, however I can log in by double clicking on the Lion Icon? How can I reset my password

I am trying to restore my Mac OS after a hard drive failure and my password is no longer recognized, however I can log in by double clicking on the Lion Icon? How can I reset my password

First, make sure caps lock is not on.
Another reason why your password might not be recognized is that the keyboard layout (input source) has been switched without your realizing it. At the login screen, you can cycle through the available layouts by pressing the key combinationcommand-space or command-option-space. See this support article.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the window that opens, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

  • Music Files Deleted After Hard Disk Failure and First Sync After Hard Disk

    Hi,
I recently had a hard disk failure and lost all of the data on my hard drive. I replaced the hard drive and reinstalled all of the software including iTunes. I am running Windows XP Home. The first time I plugged my iPod Nano into my computer after the hard drive replacement it synced to iTunes and since iTunes had no music files it deleted all of the music files on my Nano. How do I get them back and why on earth would iTunes do such a stupid thing??? My Nano contained many songs that I bought from iTunes and I want to get them back. I have found some third party software that will undelete the deleted files but it costs $69. I don't feel that I should have to pay to correct a defective feature in iTunes. Does Apple have an undelete utility? Can I redownload the songs that I purchased from iTunes?

*The first time I plugged my iPod Nano into my computer after the hard drive replacement it synced to iTunes*
When you connected did you get a message that your iPod was linked to another library, and then press Erase and Sync? When an iPod is set to update automatically and you connect to a computer with an empty iTunes and accept the message above it will erase the originals completely (as you have discovered). Also as you've seen, none of the recovery programs are particularly cheap so you have to decide if in your particular circumstances it's worth it to get your songs back. It may be if you have a lot of purchased tracks which you will have to pay to download again. If they came primarily from your CDs then it's most likely not as you can re-rip them.
*Can I redownload the songs that I purchased from iTunes?*
If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on any of the links on this page you'll find a space at the bottom to email your query: iTMS Customer Service
