Harddisk icon at startup; whats wrong?
At the last few weeks my Mac mini (mid 2007) displays sometimes a harddisk icon after pressing the powerup button. This is know as the Startup Manager, and also displayed when the option key is hold during boot. It happens with Leopard as well with Snow Leopard installed. I did the follow actions to solve this, but all negative, someone help please!
1. Redefine the startup disk in System Preferences (again and again..)
2. Checking hardware with Onyx and Apple Hardware Test: no problems
3. Resetting the PRAM: time, date and soundlevel are saved well, so battery is ok(?) The startup disk also is saved in the PRAM.
4. Resetting the SMC
5. Replace harddrive
Maybe something is wrong with the Apple keyboard or USB ports, so the mini receives an Option-key event at boot? Or there is an invisible person in the room pressing the the key..
Now you say something. At the end of the year I bought a new Eizo monitor, and from that time the issue appears. Today I replaced the PRAM battery cell and yesterday I boot wihtout a keyboard; the issue is still there. A new thing I discovered is that the icon appears when the system is powered off for a longer time. I want to find out the specific time.
The Eizo monitor than is in standby automatically, because there is no signal from the mini. When I power up the mini, the Eizo has to come out of standby mode, maybe they are 'missing' each other sometimes?!

MBA and iPad is on same wifi network.I have same problem. 3 iPads in the house + iMac. Airdrop works just fine except on mine. Mine simply doesn't show Airdrop anywhere. Tried every suggestion on the boards....but I don't even see an Airdrop icon....not on control panel, not under general - restrictions...nowhere.

My Macbook air keeps getting a message saying that the startup disk is full. I don't have picture, music, or movies on it. Im not sure whats wrong with it.
The first step is to check and see how much space really is there. From the desktop right click on the drive in the upper right corner (at least it's there by default) and select "Get Info" to see how much space it reports as free.
It's not just media files that eat up disk space, though they are often a major contributor. Do you happen to be running one of the virtual machine programs (Parallels or VMWare Fusion)? When you create a guest drive there you normally have a fairly decent amount of disk space dedicated to it and that can fill the drive.
As well, a quick fix that may buy you some time is to empty the trash if you've not done so recently. Click on the trash folder in your dock and then in the window that comes up select the option to empty the trash.
If you can free up some space, there are programs that will help you find what files and directories are using disk space. I've used Space Gremlin (in the App store) for that sort of thing, though there others. If you run that sort of utlity you'll get some idea about what is really eating up the drive space. -

Oh, by all means. Uninstall it using its uninstaller if you have one. Do not install any anti-malware software as it's unneeded with OS X Lion or Mountain Lion.
Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.

If you are getting Siri when you double tap, then your home button must be sticking. Siri comes up when you hold the home button. Try tapping quickly twice. When that happens, the multi-tasking list comes up and you will see the app icon and then a thumbnail, or reduced size view of the app above it. You put your finger on that thumbnail and swipe upwards with your finger.
For that issue, you might want to do a reset of the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. This will not affect your data.
To be honest, your novel is a little difficult to read, and I think you put too much information in there, and a lot of it is unnecessary. Be to the point and just add information necessary to understand the issue. -
Eraser tool in Photoshop CS4 acts as if it is transparent when on brush or pencil mode. Block acts like its not transparent at all but there are no options for opacity, flow or brush size. Whats wrong and how to I make the brush and pencil eraser erase completely without having to go over it multiple times?
It started randomly about two weeks ago and I thought it was a glitch that would just go away. But now I am getting sick of using only the block eraser on one size. Help?The easiest thing to start with is to reset the Eraser Tool.

Spotlight may be indexing your drive(s). Click the Spotlight icon at the right of your menubar; if it shows things being indexed, that's at least some of the reason.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -

You could try to battery saver apps. But I have the same issue. Very annoying and Apple needs to get on this. The update was supposed to fix the battery life issue but it was the one that made mine worse. I feel your pain. All you can do is decrease the screen brightness and kill running apps. Double tap the home button while unlocked and the list at the bottom hold one icon down and when they shake you will see a minus button hit that to make them go away. This will kill programs that are running and eating your battery. I do this often.

NO clue whats wrong with my Nano
I have no clue what is wrong with my first gen ipod nano. When i plug it in to my laptop (dell inspiron 6400) to a USB port it freezes up and all i see is the do not disconect sign. I look in itunes and my ipods not there to eject, so 1) i cant eject my ipod safely and 2) i cant get any songs on to it, because its not reconized by my computer. I have no idea whats wrong with it. Please please please help me.
When i got up to step 2, it said it was charging, i had the big battery icon flashing, so i know it wasnt frozen (wich was a first) but then i disconnected it and pluged it back in but it froze once i pluged it in and it did not appear in itunes.

You might have Do Not Disturb turned on - I would check that first:
To enable/disable, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb. When Do Not Disturb is on, a "moon" icon will appear in the status bar.
or
You can enable/disable Do Not Disturb in Control Center.

Imac G5 ALS shows grey screen with blinking folder icon on startup
Helping a friend - her imac G5 got the blinking folder icon with question mark and grey screen and then wouldn't start. She had OS 10.4.11. I booted from install disk successfully- Disk Util said No repairs Necessary. Disk Warrior hung (never had that happen before). Performed Safe Boot. Multiple reboots were all successful.
But a few days later, it happened again. Then I did a clean install of 10.5 and all software updates. Restored her user folder from a clone I'd made before starting. All seemed well.
Now, the grey screen with folder question mark still occurs fairly often. If she restarts, she does get booted. (so far anyway)
My question: what do I need to do to resolve the grey screen with blinking folder icon on startup?
Additionally, the computer is slower than before. Does Leopard run slower on these machines than Tiger? (I'd already advised her to get more ram)
Thanks for your help!The blinking folder means just that, it can't find an OS to boot to. Tray zapping the PRAM and it wouldn't hurt to run Rember and if the RAM checks out, she might want to add some, 512 is really a minimum, and Leopard should really have at least 1GB.

When I try to power up my iphone 4 32g, it will stay on the apple screen for a few seconds then turn off. even when I try connecting it to my computer it turns on for a few seconds then turns off. Whats wrong with it? and what do I do about it?
Have you tried charging it with another known working USB sync cable? After letting it sit to "charge" for at least 30 minutes, have you tried resetting the device by pressing and holding both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
