Harddisk problem on Zen Sle

I havent even had this a month, it froze up, I let the battery drain, I restarted it, and now none of the options on the menu work. Is my player fried? Even when I go to 'Format Harddisk' it pops up "Harddisk Problem". Is there any way to fix this besides returning this for an Ipod?

I have allready called up Circuit City and they said I they had a month exchange/return policy, so it shouldnt be a problem, and if I remember, they had a couple 20GB Iri'ves and some 20GB Ipods, maybe I will even preorder the new 30 gig video Ipod. I plan on checking them out before I have to work tonight. I have read about the CL headphone jack problem, and that just seems like something that would affect my next player, along with the possibility of another fried harddri've. I am soured on this company for possibly ever. They shouldnt send me a defecti've product and then place the emphasises on my effort as the sole basis for getting it fixed when in reality it is much easier to go get my $250 and blow it on something else.

  • "Harddisk problem" in Zen X

I got a Zen Xtra 40 gb player for Christmas and once I finally got all of my cds loaded on it and went to use it, I haven't been able to. The player freezes and I have to reset. When I reset, the rescue mode comes up. I've tried disk cleanup, formatting, reloading the OS, anytime I try any of these options, I get a "Harddisk problem" screen. I don't know what to do! Has anyone dealt with a similar problem before?

  • Harddisk problem with Zen To

When I start up the player it gives me a screen with four options. if i choose any then it says there is a scandisk problem. the only thing i can click is reboot which brings me to the same screen again.
    what should i do??

Presumably by "scandisk problem" you mean harddisk problem as per the subject?
If so it's bad news unfortunately as it means there's a problem with the hard disk. You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net at your OWN RISK. If you don't want to try this or are under warranty then contact Creative Support.
If you aren't under warranty you can contact Creative Support to see if they will repair it. • Zen Sleek Harddisk Problem

    Hi All,
This is the first time I've ever encountered this and it has me worried. The past few times I turned on my Zen Sleek it went into recovery mode. I figured I would do a disc cleanup, but that doesn't seem to be working. It sat for /2 hour without saying the disc had been cleaned. Anyway, I went to reload the firmware and then I ran into the harddisk problem. It won't let me reload the firmware and I can't get out of recovery more. I've shut down, rebooted, and paper clipped a dozen times & I'm still in recovery mode. Any sugesstions? I've only had the thing for 9 months and I've never dropped it. I would be a real shame and very disappointing if it died already. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

To be honest, you've already lost all the data because the dri've it's on has failed. Kinda like how your data on a CD is basically gone if you bust the CD in half.
As for why the dri've died, lots of things can kill a hard dri've. Excessi've vibration, shock, ESPECIALLY drops while the unit is on. And possibly the #2 hard dri've killer: jogging with the player. Or maybe it was a dud, it happens, that's why we have a warranty.
Gi've Customer Support a call, they'll want to do some troubleshooting to be sure, and then they can set you up for service. You can also email in if you don't have time to call, on the support page of this website.
    Good luck!

  • Fake "harddisk problem" error..... grrrr [zen Tou

well it started 2 weeks ago on my Zen Touch.. i got the recovery window and the "harddisk problem" error. so i gave it back to the ppl i got it from and 2 weeks later i passed by and they said they didnt see any problem... and in fact everything was working perfectly.
so i get home listen to some music and then i get the same error again, i shut the thing off a couple of times and it starts working again.
20 minuts later the same thing happened, but now the error window is not going away. I doubt it a real problem because the harddisk sounds smooth when i turn on the Zen Touch, but its still not working.
Anyone had the same problem and can help me?

The same thing happened to my Zen Xtra 5-6 mos. after I first used it
This is what I sent to the customer support e-mail:
    <SPAN><FONT face=Arial>
The player was purchased on 2/4/04 but was not used until 2/25/04. Starting on approx. 5/3/05, the player would freeze and after the battery was removed and replaced the "EAX Audio" screen would remain on the LCD and a "clicking" sound was heard until the battery was removed and replaced numerous times. On 6/2/05 the "Rescue Mode" screen appeared after the battery was removed but disappeared after the player automatically turned itself off and was turned back on. On 6/4/05 the player froze and the battery was removed again, but the "Rescue Mode" screen would repeatedly appear rather than function normally after a restart. In "Rescue Mode" the "Reboot" and "Clean Up" functions were used with no success. The "Reload OS" and then "Format All" functions were used and each time the "Harddisk Problem" screen would appear and then the "Rescue Mode" screen reappeared. The website troubleshooting instructions were followed numerous times with no success.
Is it because it is dropped too many times?:smileyindifferent:

  • " Harddisk Problem " Please help.

Recently, I dropped my Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra on the gymfloor sadly, the battery fell out along with the outer case. All I get now is a long wait to the Rescue Mode Screen, when I choose Clean Up, it doesn't do anything at all. Format All > says Harddisk Problem with a little pic of a disk and key, Reload OS > same thing as Format All, and Reboot just reboots itself to the same screen.
Ive tried a few thing online trying to upgrade the drivers and such but when I plug it in the CPU responds to it as Not Connected.. I really have no idea on what to do, I dont really care if I lose the thousands of songs I have on it, but I just want it to work.
Anyone have some insight on this please?

    I also had "<B>Harddisk</B> <B>Problem</B>"
I replaced the <B>harddisk</B> (Fujitsu Mobile 60GB hard disk "MHT2060AT" ..originally I had 20 GB) and reloaded the Firmware (after formatting), it is working great.

  • Harddisk problem - how to resolve when out of warre

    Hello all,
I dropped my Creative Zen Xtra today, until now I have had no problems whatsoever with this fantastic machine....
Basically now though, the menus won't load, when it's switched on it just hangs on the EAX screen for a couple of minutes before transferring me to the rescue menu. Of the four options on the rescue menu, Clean Up doesn't do anything, just returns me to the Rescue Mode, Formal All and Reload OS just gives me a "Harddisk Problem" message, and Reboot eventually returns me to the Rescue Mode.
I've tried resetting the player, but again just end up at the Rescue Mode again.
I presume that I've knocked the hard disk out of alignment - does anybody know how to fix this, and also how much I would expect to pay should I want to get it fixed?
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated...

  • Harddisk problem - weird, having some issu

Alright, I've only had my Creative Zen Xtra (60GB) for 3 days, and when I woke up this morning, it would no longer work. Last it had worked I had just finished using it, plugged it into the recharger, put it on my night table, and went to bed. I have tried "percussi've treatment" to no avail, and on that note, the hard dri've does not do very much clicking at all. It starts up the same way as always, I hear a whirr, and then the hard dri've sputters out. I am introduced to rescue mode, which does nothing. "Clean Up" seems to do nothing at all, "Format all" results in a "harddisk problem" message, as does "Reload OS". However, it doesn't seem like the hard disk is completely broken - When plugged into my computer, it is accessed just fine. If I use the explorer, I can get as far as accessing the MP3 player, though it seems to think I have no files stored on it. If I try to put a file on it, I get an "access denied" message, and if I try to put an mp3 file into the "media library" folder (I can't access the music folder), I get an "unspecified error" message. I have also tried to reload the firmware, in which case the firmware program gets stuck at a certain point and stops responding. Also, if I go to "Selected Music" in my explorer, I actually can see the last songs I had specifically selected for play, on the player's console - this somehow leads me to believe that the hard disk is not completely broken, though I could be mistaken. Has anyone else had this kind of problem, or am I still stuck having to send in for repairs?Message Edited by SpiffyHamster on 04-0-2006 2:4 PM

Harddisk error when trying to format the disk means the harddisk has failed. The light-firm tap method may work if the heads have stuck, but I've never had any success with that myself.
If you don't want to replace the hard disk yourself, put it up on eBay, there is a market for faulty players (I buy them all the time).

  • "harddisk problem" error message solved for su

After experiencing this problem mysef; my touch booting up, hard dri've clicking and then the recovery menu loading up, i have found what i can pretty surely say is the definiti've solution.
    give it a whack!
as your player boots up give it a firm whack (not sure what side, mine worked on the left but i have read of others)
this should dislodge the dri've heads which seems to be the problem experienced
    hope this helps!!

I came to this board because my Zen Xtra 30G had stopped working and had left me in perpetual recovery mode with a "harddisk problem." Everytime that I turned it on, I could hear a quiet clicking grind before it landed back in recovery mode. I tried tapping the sides with a pen (my dainty version of percussion maintenance) and removing the battery, but nothing worked.
Being technically inclined, I was considering a hard dri've transplant when I decided to give it one more whack. I knew the risk, but I had nothing to lose. My Zen is 4 months old and well out of warranty. Low and behold, it came back to life. My process: I held it in my right hand facing me and gave its left side a swift whack against my left palm. When I turned it on, the grinding sound was gone and it now plays beautifully.
I'm posting this because I had a hard time finding the exact directions for this "percussion maintenance" and I'm hoping it helps someone else. As others have warned, do this at your own risk.

  • "Harddisk problem" - h

Today, I sat down and decided to listen to my Zen Touch, 40 GB. Nothing special, I had it on random play all, I've got about 2k songs on there.
The one song ended, and the next song started, but then it did some funky stuff, like started playing the song previous. A "playback error" pops up. No big deal, I just stopped in and clicked play a few times. Won't work. Push the FF/next button - doesn't work. I try to shut down - nope, won't work. It's making some weird, churning noises, and for god's sake, it won't shut down.
I've gotten desperate by this time and reset. So, I'm at the happy Recovery Menu. I try to "clean up" and "reboot", with no good results. Next, I tried to "Format All" and "Reload Firmware" but a strange window pops up, saying "Harddisk problem" and shows something vaguely resembling a turn-table / disc jockey's thing.
I suppose it's been the firmware / everything else has already been deleted, since I can only go to the recovery menu. But, what's a "harddisk problem"? Will my mp3 player ever work again? Or I should I just bring it to Best Buy and let the people there tell me it's broken and they can give a new one for cheap since it's not my fault and I don't think I've broken the warranty.

    Good luck with this one.
Harddisk problems are apparently not covered under warranty according to Creative. I had the same "Harddisk error" and Creative simply wrote it off as damage the I must have done. My Zen Xtra simply stopped working one day with no previous symptoms. They will fix it for $55.
You got shafted by the two best in the business; Creative and Best Buy. Both have the worst customer support in the business.
    Sorry for your loss.

  • Random Problems with Zen Micro? Try a diff. USB cable

I know people have mentioned this in other posts, but I thought I would reiterate it here. Many people seem to be complaining that their player is not recognized, or only sometimes recognized, or recognized by Windows (as a USB device) but not by their Creative software, or songs won't transfer, etc. Well, I had some similar problems which ALL went away when I started using a different USB cable - the one that shipped with the Micro just doesn't seem to work consistently.
So, if you are having problems with your player that you can't seem to solve any other way, you may want to try a different USB cable. It worked for me.
Hope this helps - I am (now) loving my new Micro!

I tried a different USB cable also, I thought that it would help, but I still got the same problems. I can almost guarantee that although you think you may have solved your issues, they WILL come back.
I've also been experiencing the "Player Not Connected" problem with my Zen Micro.
I've also had the problem where the Zen Micro just freezes in the "Docked" screen even after it has been disconnected from the PC
I've noticed that these are common problems with Zen Micros with the new firmware (.0.03)
My old Zen Micro with the old, original firmware did NOT have this connectivity problem
Creative should investigate these issues associated with this new firmware, or maybe even making the old firmware available for download to see if this really is the source of all these problems.

  • Problems With Zen Touch Turn

After just recently purchasing a Zen Touch in December 2005, I already have problems with it.
I have never dropped it or hit it. I plugged it in to re-charge one day after using it and when it was done charging I turned it on, used it for 5 minutes then set it down. The next morning I went to turn it on to use it, and it wouldn't turn on. The blue light at the side on the power button was on, but the screen just wouldn't show up. Now the blue light won't turn off. I have read about these problems with Zen Micro freezing up and read about Zen Touch freezing up back in 2004 when it was released. I have phoned the number but couldn't seem to get through. Should I consider taking it in? Or is there an easier way?

Have you tried resetting it's Connect to the mains adapter and press the tiny recessed button on the side of the player. Don't use anything sharp to press it, a bent paper clip is best.

  • Frozen problem of ZEN Stone p

    Hi all,
I need your help with my ZEN Stone plus (2GB). It was bought last December. Recently, it always gets frozen?with the?showing of?"CREATIVE" letters?after I press the play button. I cannot get to?the menu. All the buttons lose their functions. I cannot even turn it off. In addition, my laptop doesn't recognize it'swhen I plug it into the USB portal.
When I plug it into my laptop, the light for recharging is always on. It never flashes even if it is out of battery.
I have?tried the "reset button". But it dosen't work at all. The same problem?repeats. Can anyone help me out? Thank you very much.

$Re: Frozen problem of ZEN Stone plus Have the same basic problem, slightly different symptoms.
Had just recharged my 2GB player (w/speaker) and added some songs and a podcast not half an hour before.
Was playing songs one at a time but got distracted. When I went to choose the next song pressed the button up top to bring the screen up. It came up but then winked out. Figured it timed out so I turned it back on again.
Showed the Creative screen, got to the "Zen Stone" screen and then just sat there and sat there. After what seemed like forever got onto the website and followed the directions about rebooting and restarted it. Same thing. Tried it again. No luck.
Thought to hook it up to the computer to see if that made a difference. The player came on automatically but stil stalled. And? the computer doesn't recognize it. No icon of any kind, nothing in "Safely Remove Hardware" or a sign of it anywhere else. Even opened Creative Media Lite and it says there's no player connected. So I've hit reboot and have left it turned off.
Thought about letting the battery run down but since I can't be certain it will recharge even though it lights up when connected to the USB - and there could be a solution but only if it has power - I'm not going to do that. There's nothing specific I can find in the Troubleshooting about "frozen log in".AND "computer won't recognize".
I don't care about the files. But I haven't had a moment of trouble from it until this happened - no computer interface issues, battery life problems, nothing. I love this little thing. People are always asking me about it when they see it clipped to my shirt collar when I'm out. Haven't had it long and can't afford to replace it right now.
Really hoping that it's something fixable.

  • Two problems with Zen Vision: M

Hi all. I'll give my player's specs before describing the problem(s):Zen Vision: M 30 GBVersion .40.02 Anyway, I've had my Zen for about 4 months now, and up until now, it's worked perfectly. Recently, for the first time, it froze on me. I figure it was because I was shuffling through songs on random too quickly, as I see other people have had this problem too. So I reset the player, but it only rebuilt halfway; on the "Rebuilding" screen, the green line stops about halfway through. Now, whereas I once had about 2600 songs I'm down to a little over 000. I didn't think it was that big of a problem; I've either got all my songs backed up on my computer or CD. But when I connected the Zen to my computer, my computer couldn't read the device. Sort of, that is. My Zen can still charge through my computer and when I plug it into the computer, a message will pop up asking me what I'd like to do with the MP3 device. However, when I go to Zen Vision: M Series Media Explorer, I get the message "Your player is not connected. Please connect your Zen Vision: M Series to the computer." I went through the FAQ at the top of the message board and tried basically every solution outside of trying the Zen on another computer. I'm thinking it's a problem with the player, not my computer. It still acts erratically at times- like, if I leave it off for an extended amount of time and turn it on, it'll go into rebuilding mode. Other than that, though, it's fine. Could the hard dri've be corrupted Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem. It all started yesterday when I was installing the cd drivers in my new computer. I have searched numerous forums and some people had to return the product. Please admins help on this issue as I understand it is very serious.
