HARDDRIVE FOR G550

MY LENOVO G550 SAYS NO HARDDRIVE AND WHEN I TURN ON IT SAYS CHECK CABLE?I AINT GOT ACLUE PLEASE HELP.THANKS

As normal with this model, only trouble, i regret buying this laptop, since i bought this model i had only trouble with it.
First problem with this notebook: it came with lots of application installed, so i bought another license of windows, reformatted the drive and reinstalled the os.
Second: i had trouble with the device drivers on win xp 32 bit, all went ok, but after i installed the sound driver i had verry weird sound. The same with vista 32 bit, the only version of win on wich my audio drivers work correctly are win 7 32/64 bit.
Third: There are no drivers for Win xp 64 bit: I mean, hello, windows xp 64 bit does not exist or what? This is frustrating for me, because i enjoy using win xp rather than win 7, an win xp 32 bit does not recognise the ull capacity of 4 gb RAM.

    hi,
My audio driver for windoes xp for G550 notebooks gives an error when installed............ I've a problem in installing it.....please help me out.....

    Is it like this one?
    http://www.txcesssurplus.com/servlet/the-8067/IBM-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Wireless/Detail
If so, note the fccid on back, bcm=Broadcom chip,
in the case of the linked card, bcm9431
Check the support downloads for G550 wlan, Broadcom,
see if that works. (Or have you already tried that?)

  • One Touch Recovery Software for XP for G550 94Q model

Please post the driver link for One touch recovery software link for G550 94Q model. I found drivers for Vista but not for XP...

Thanks, I'll give that a try when I finally get the Windows 7 upgrade disk.
It seems ridiculous that Lenovo doesn't support this product for Windows 7, especially when they mentioned the "FREE" upgrade (with ridiculous "shipping and handling charge") to Windows 7 on the web page where I ordered it. Being a reasonable person, I assumed that when they offered a "Free" upgrade to Windows 7 with the PC, they would also provide the basic software to allow the built-in hardware like webcams to keep on functioning as they did under Vista.
Had I known that they would refuse to offer any software on disks or download, I would have ordered a DELL or some other PC that has a reasonable level of customer service. I am not a typical user; I don't call in for customer support. All I need is the software and drivers, and I will install it myself.

  • Harddrive for macbook pro

    hey guys,
im new to this forum, so if this has already been discussed then please just direct me to the right site to find the clues...
ive currently got an older model of the macbook pro with an 80GB harddrive. the programs i have installed use up a large majority of the harddrive space and as such, im struggling to ensure that i have even 1gb spare. i use external harddrives too, but i was thinking it would be nice to have more space on the internal harddrive.
any thoughts or ideas on costs? range? advantages? disadvantages? installation?
from what ive found so far i can get a 160 GB harddrive installed (with my data and programs etc transferred) for $290 or a 250 Gb harddrive for $370. no idea if this is outrageous...
any feedback will be greatly appreciated
    cheers

    Depends how handy you are.
You can find instructions on how to replace it at http://www.ifixit.com
You can find replacement drives at http://www.macsales.com - I only mention this lot as you can see some of the possible replacement drives. Apple tend to use Seagate, Hitachi, Fujitsu and possibly Toshiba to my knowledge.
A bare 160gb 5400rpm drive can be had for around $100 or so - US$.
I can't really speak for Aus - I don't know how much drives are. Do a search to see how much you can get the drive for and then work out if install and transfer etc are worth the extra. If you have access to an external drive then backing up and restoring the data from the 80gb drive to the new one is simple.
    Hope that helps,
    best of luck.

can I back up my photos on my iphone directly to an external harddrive for safekeeping? My iPhone is full and my Mac laptop is full. What is the best solution besides buying a new laptop?

Not "directly" but you can use the MacBook to send the backup to the external HD.
    iTunes > preverences > advanced
Use the function buttons to change the location of the Media Folder Location.

  • Best Raid 5 expandable external harddrives for video editing & storage.

    Hi,
I'm hoping to get opinions and recommendations from the community concerning the best Raid 5 expandable external harddrives for HD video editing and storage. Initially, I'd like to start with an 8tb and have it expandable to 16tb, that will work with both Mac and PC. There seem to be a number of options, but it's difficult to find reviews from video editors. It would be nice to stay under $ 2,000.00.
    Thanks for any input.
    Heather

If the brief includes "fast enough for video editing", you are looking for an editing solution.
If you want it to be fast enough to edit video and be shared by two computers, you are looking at a server type system connected through a very fast network interface (fibre, dual channel iSCSI)
If this is the case, $2k is not going to do it.
What it comes down to is this - Basic backup can be had relatively inexpensively as can direct connect RAID systems. The complexity and cost comes from the shared network storage with enough bandwidth to support multiple systems.
What do you want for your $2000?

  • Audio driver for G550

    HI friends,
I've downloaded my audio driver for G550 laptops for my windows Xp...... But during installation there occured an error and was unable to load..... so please guide me , is there any other way to download the driver software....

    Hi Vaibhav,
    Welcome to the forum!
Try any or all of these steps.
    1. Enter the BIOS and set it to default values.
    2. Disable the device driver that has problem in the device manager. If you see any yellow or red marks under a device then "Disable the profile" of the device by first going into it's properties.
    3. Click Start , Run , and type the following into the Open field: msconfig, Click the Boot.ini tab. Remove the checkmark next to /Safeboot , if it is selected. Click OK and restart the PC.
    4. In Safe mode select Start, Run, type "msconfig" and click on OK. Check the box before Normal Startup and click on Apply and OK. Exit and restart your computer.
    5. Your computer may also be infected with a virus or malware, try running a complete scan with an updated antivirus/spyware.
To successfully install the audio driver, your Windows XP must be at SP2 level and this patch must be applied prior to installing the audio driver:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-65456.html
    Hope it helps.

  • Preparing the harddrive for installation?

I cannot seem to find out how I have to prepare the harddrive for the installation of Solaris 8...
Does it have to be totally blank? (No partitions)
Do I have to create partition(s) before installing?
If so do they need to be FAT16 or FAT32?
And do I have to format them or leave them unformatted?
    Any hints?

If you are on a SUN hardware, U need not have to format the disk before installation. Just check out weather the machine has detected the hard drive by probe-scsi OR probe-ide at the "ok" prompt. The installation procedure by itself involves partitioning the disk as per the requirement:)

  • External harddrive for Mac G5

    Hi
I would like to get an external firewire harddrive for my mac G5 any sugestions out there.
    Kindest Regards
    Joe

This reply may not be very popular, but here goes...
I usually watch the Sunday paper for circulars from places like CompUSA, Staples, Office Max, ect. If you look at the sale section, you can normally find Firewire external cases. I have built five of these and the cost has been minimal. The nicest cases, in my opinion, are two Acom Data cases I found at CompUSA for $29.99. They came with Firewire (400) cables too! In these two cases, I mounted a Maxtor Diamondmax 10 300GB drive and a Maxtor Diamondmax 9 200GB drive. So, with these two drives I have almost 500GB of storage. I believe I paid $79.99 (after instant savings and mail-in rebates) for the 300GB drive (at Staples, I believe). So, for $110 I have a 300GB external Firewire drive. The drive is fast and I can boot my machine from it.
My daughter needed a drive for her iMac about 6 months ago. I bought a 40GB Maxtor mechanism for $20 on eBay. I found a Firewird case for $20, also on eBay. I think it cost me less than $5 to ship each item to me. So, for less than $50, she has a 40GB external Firewird drive.
Just last week, my son needed a new drive. Office Depot had a special in their circular on a 100GB Maxtor Diamondmax 10 drive. After all of the rebates, the drive mechanism's cost is $19.95. I found an old Firewire case in the garage and now he has a 100GB external Firewire drive.
If you don't forsee the need to boot from the drive, you could buy a case that only has a USB 2.0 interface. These are actually more readibly available and usually less expensive.
I don't know why more people don't put their own drives together. It's really easy and saves lots of money.

  • Ideal external FW harddrive for audio

I am building a quality (humble) recording studio off of an iMac G5, and need an external harddrive for fast accessing/processing of audio data. I will not be using this harddrive for backup purposes.
    These are my specifications:
    -- firewire
    -- 100-200GB
    -- Oxford 911 chipset
-- less than 9ms seek time
-- at least 2MB buffer, greater if possible
    -- min 7200RPM
    -- ideally less than $200
If you're curious, I am using ProTools M-Powered and possibly Logic Express.
Do you have any models that you highly recommend or that I should avoid? Thank you, your advice is greatly appreciated!
    ~Nicholas

    96kHz * 24bit * stereo = 4608 kilobits per second
4608 / 8 bits per byte = 576 kilobytes per second per track
24 tracks will require 13.8 megabytes per second of read/write throughput
Either can handle 13.8MB/s fine (most drives do 40-70MB/s for single files, or 25-30MB/s for multiple files). The LaCie fw800 interface capability is higher than the drive inside it. Try both and see which open/loads faster. Open Activity Monitor when working inside your DAW and see if the CPU usage is higher when working from the fw device vs. the internal drive. I'd probably use the internal drive, backup to the FW, then ship the FW drive off to the mastering house.

  • How can i use my 3rd Generation iPod as a portable harddrive for files...

now that i have a brand new 5th Generation 60Gig iPod, i want to use my old 3rd Generation iPod as a portable storage devise for files and whatever else. not for listening to music anymore. what do i have to do to make this so?
i can just go ahead and use the firewire cable that came with it right? and will i actually be able to upload files to it, and then download them again? like word documents and photo files or spreadsheet or whatever?
will it be cross platform then? meaning will i be able to take it to my friends pc (i use a mac) and download my resume or spreadsheet or whatever else to his machine (of course i would have to use the usb cable then).
know what i mean? i want to use this think like an external harddrive.
    please advise.
iBook and Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.3)   and OSX 10.4 on the MBP

i think ipods are generally set to enable disc mode, so you can use it as a storage device, by default (if yours isnt, plug your ipod in, and go into options to select enable disc mode). just connect the ipod with whatever cord it came with to your computer, then look into the m.. is it called "my harddrive" or "harddrive"? and you should see the ipod connected there on the left side of the window with "network" and "music" etc. if you click on the ipod icon, you can drag and drop files into your ipod just as you would any other folder and use it as a harddrive.
the tricky thing is using it for both pc and mac. i think if its formatted for a pc, you can use it on both macs and pcs. but if you have it formatted for a mac, then only macs can read it.
so if you want to use it on your friends pc as well, format your ipod on a pc first so you can use it on both platforms.

  • How to choose an external harddrive for booting an iMac G5 (Intel Core 2 Duo, late 2006 model MA589xx/A)

The internal harddrive of my 20" iMac G5 has failed and I would like to run the computer from an external drive until I can purchase a new one. I don't currently have an external drive available to do this so I would like some recommendations regarding which type would be preferable for this use. My neighbor suggested buying an external firewire enclosure and a 500 GB drive to go inside it. Is that adequate? If so, which brand is good to buy. In the future I will be using this new drive to backup files from whatever computer I end up purchasing. I am also considering replacing the internal drive of the iMac since the rest of the computer works well and, if possible, would like to use this new drive for that purpose.

I agree with your neighbor. A good source is OWC. You want a 3.5" SATA I or SATA II (1.5 or 3.0 Gb/s) hard drive. The enclosure should have a power supply and support at least Firewire 400/800 and USB 2.0. OWC even has tools. Good drives to choose from include Seagate, HGST, and Western Digital (stay away from their Blue drives.) Avoid so-called Green drives.

  • Where can I buy a new HardDrive for my PowerBook G4?

I took my PowerBook into the apple store today and the guy did a little test and it came up that my HardDrive is failing to load or something, haha! But because PowerBook's are pretty old now they don't support it anymore. So the big question is: WHERE CAN I BUY A HARDDRIVE?

Newegg.com still has a couple to choose from at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007605%2060000344 2&IsNodeId=1&name=IDE%20Ultra%20ATA100%20%2f%20ATA-6
You can use any parallel ATA/IDE hard drive for a laptop (2.5" size). However, you cannot use a serial ATA or SATA hard drive.
