Harddrive is full with movies

My hard drive is almost full with movies what is the best way to move them so they still work on my Apple TV smoothly?

You may want to move your entire iTunes library to an external hard drive. Since the Apple TV uses iTunes to hold its movies, copy the library (in your Music folder) to an external hard drive. Next, launch iTunes while holding down the option key on your keyboard. From the resulting dialog, select Choose Library. Select the library on the external hard drive. Now try viewing the movies using your Apple TV. Once you are satisfied that this worked, delete the iTunes Library on your internal hard drive.
Best of luck.

  • Harddrive Almost Full With Little Applications. Help!

    I have a Mac Pro 2011 12 core with SSD 550GB and 3 Hardrives of 2tb each.
My SSD has only 30 GB left of space and i dont know why!?
i do alot of editing on premiere pro and i tried deleting catch but that wasnt the problem solver.
it has to be files hidden or something else that is taking 520gigs of space.
This Mac pro is runing on lion by the way.

Use one of the disk analyzers to see if you can spot who's taking all the space:
    OmniDiskSweeper
    GrandPerspective
    WhatSize
    Disk Inventory X
You might also see how much of that space is reclaimed by rebooting.

    Appreciate some help.

You should be able to copy the apps (and any other iTunes purchases) over to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. And as long as apps remain available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to purchase them, you should be able to re-download them in the future : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
If you are already on iOS 5+ on your iPad then you should be able to update the iPad directly on the iPad via Settings > General > Software Update .

I have a 27" iMac with 16GB of factory installed SDRAM and 1T harddrive.  It is telling me the harddrive is full and is not functioning correctly.  How can I adjust so that all files are managed on the harddrive rather than the SDRAM.  (BTW - design flaw here.)
Older Macs with a single Harddrive would simply expand OS management on the drive, and I think I understand the new Fusion Drive to do just that, but how do I get this product that I spent a great deal of money on to be more than a pretty screen?

I was confused by this statement
It is telling me the harddrive is full and is not functioning correctly.
OS X manages ram and when you run out, it create swapfiles to extend your ram on the HDD (Hard Disk Drive). The OS itself, takes about 16 gig of space and that too resides on the HDD.  Your 16 gig of RAM is really a temporary space that holds things from the HDD so the processor can work on them.  There is no design flaw between your ram and HDD.  Something else is going on and there are a lot of smart people here to help you figure out what that "something else" is.
I would do three things.  First I would create a backup, backups are important.  Second, I would reboot into recovery and repair my HDD.  Lastly while still booted in recovery I would repair permissions.
Can you capture a screen shot of the exact error you are getting?

  • What's with the "Full Screen" movie rentals?

I"m as ****** as the next guy about the "No HD rentals" issue, but even more ****** off that most of the rentals I'm clicking on aren't just not available is HD, but aren't even available in "Widescreen". All Macs have a "widescreen" display now, and even your iPods, iPod Touch, and iPhone's are widescreen. No one wants to download a rental of a "Full Screen" movie anymore. My God, "300" in Full Screen - What are they thinking? If they want to offer "Full Screen" rentals, it should be an option, like when you go to the video store to buy a DVD, and are offered a "Full Screen" version or a "Widescreen" version. I don't think they even sell Full Screen TVs anymore. I have the same problem with PPV from the cable company... If it is not offered in Widescreen, I don't rent it. The same will be true here. I just never imagined Full Screen would ever even be offered, much less the only option.

The iTunes store has pretty much everything in widescreen that it can, but as with most televisions and "home theater" setups... Widescreen really doesn't matter. I know that some people prefer widescreen, but I don't. I have a projector not a TV so I have a 20 foot screen and the black lines in most "widescreen" movies eats up 4-5 feet of space. The only movies that come formatted for a widescreen TV in the first place(I am talking about on DVDs) are the Anamorphic Widescreen DVDs. They have a 2.35:1 aspect ratio, but very few DVDs actually have this, most are in 1.85:1 aspect ratio or 16:9 which is actually a fullscreen movie with black lines at the top and bottom.
As for HD rentals in the iTunes store, this is AppleTV only, and that is not Apple's fault, this is due to DRM. In order for you to play a copy-protected Blu-ray or HD DVD you have to have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCP compliant hardware, the apple TV is HDCP, but you computer is not, so therefore Warner Bros/FOX/Sony etc. Can not be guaranteed that you won't be able to pirate their content.
Most people do not have a widescreen TV, and yes most Computer screen LCDs are capable of just about any resolution, but a lot of people are still in the non-HD zone.
I agree that many people want HD content, however given how hollywood lost the battle to keep DVDs copy-protected, they have taken enormous steps to protect HD content.....

  • My start up disc is full i have a macbook air, i back everuthing up with time capsule and  have movies all my music libraries and photos onto that too so as i have free space, but my max still says my startup disc is full with "other"

my start up disc is full i have a macbook air, i back everuthing up with time capsule and  have movies all my music libraries and photos onto that too so as i have free space, but my max still says my startup disc is full with "other"

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the available space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Can I play full-length movies? if so, how?

i'm new to ipod, just purchased a 60gb video... now, i'm trying to figure out how to purchase and play full-lenth movies or tv shows on my ipod... i see they have movie trailers on the site, but dont see anything about purchasing the full show.... can someone help? thanx in advance

First off any kind of video work requires a computer that is up to the task. Video conversion puts a lot of stress on hardware. In any case you should have a second clean harddrive, plenty of memory and a fast CPU with a good power supply (400 watts). If you are having trouble getting the software to even run, then you have problems with your operating system that need to be fixed first.

  • First FullHD consumer Harddrive camcorder works with iM...

the German Video-Magazin "videoaktiv" claims on its website, http://www.videoaktiv.de/content/view/871/2/, that the new JVC GZ-HD7, a full HiDef = 1920 x 1080i harddrive camcorder, uses a "MPEG-2-TS" codec, no advhd as Sony...
    furthermore, videoaktiv writes, quote:
.. : JVC partnered with Apple, iM and FCP will work with that codec, due to a plug-in ...
the camera (price >1700, <2000€) offers superb pic quality, allthough the 3 CCDs have only 1/5" size ...
... harddrive camcorder works with iMovie... thru a plug-in..
............. interesting.. for some of us...
    and, dear admins: no rumor..

.. Planning to buy that one ?..
I'm happy to pay my flat's rent..
no, still my goo' ol ' Sony TRV14 in use..
hiDef TV is still far, far away future in my household ...
FullHD means a new, FullHD TFT-TV, probably a better/expensive cable suplier..
thanks for mentioning Mikael .. I'll keep an eye on his posts... I just dare to take short visits in the FCE forum, pro.. whhoo ...- The Big Boys...
but the interesting part for me in this news is the codec, harddrive support and mentioning plug-ins doing so...
    we will see. ....

  • No sound when watching full-screen movies or TV shows in iTunes after update to 11.1

After updating to iTunes 11.1, any full-screen movies or TV shows I try to play on my Thunderbolt display with my MacBook Pro have no audio. If I plug in speakers or headphones, I get audio, just not from the Thunderbolt display. Audio works fine from MBP.
Weird thing is, if I plug in other speakers or headphones and then *unplug* them, the Thunderbolt display's speakers start working again. Every time you start a new show or movie, though, you have to do this again after the full-screen video opens on the display.
Really weird. I obviously suspect i has something to do with the 11.1 update to iTunes 'cause audio works just fine through the display for iTunes music and other content and for the web and all other apps and games, whether they're in full-screen mode or not.
Keep checking Software Update hoping to see that "1" badge pop up on the App Store, lol.
    Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks allen222! I've been banging my head against this issue as well - glad to hear it's fixed in Mavericks - was planning to upgrade shortly.

  • How do i export multiple full resolution movie files at the same time in final cut pro 6?

I've been using Final Cut Pro since version 3 came out, know the program well, have even had jobs consisting of just operating the program.  I'm currently running version 6 because that's the latest one that works on my computer.  Back in verison 3, there used to be an option under Export to export a "Final Cut Pro" movie, which was really a Quicktime movie but appeared with a FCP icon and defaulted to opening in FCP, but the important thing about it is that it was a full resolution copy of the movie with no compression.  Now, that option seems to have been changed to "export Quicktime movie."  In my opinion that change is kind of stupid since it is so much less specific and is even less of an implication that one is exporting a full resolution file.  But in fact you are.
One also has the option of using Compressor to export a version of a movie, and therein there are so many different options that if you are not confused by it I think there's something wrong with you.  Moreover, it would appear that there is no equivalent of exporting a full resolution version of a file in Compressor.  Fair enough: a full-resolution file involves no compression so is not appropriate for "Compressor."  BUT, suppose you want to export multiple uncompressed, full-resolution movies at once.  When you use Compressor, you are able to create batch lists and export many things at the same time, for instance, lists that will take many hours to complete so you can go to bed and get the results the next day.  But as far as I can tell there is no way to do this at full resolution without compression.  Instead you have to sit at the computer waiting for each one to finish and after each one, manually go to the next and select "export Quicktime movie."  Even if there is a way to do this I would complain that such an obviously desireable thing is so unaccessable.  In fact, the only reason I've typed out my question at such length is because I'm stuck here waiting for each one of my movies to export.
Anyway, all my complaints aside, anyone know how to do this?

what you're missing to export multiple files is the batch export command available in the file menu or by control clicking on the items in the browser.  You can export multiple sequences/clips at full resolution with this.
This has been available in fcp for a long long time.
Wow, you are right.  Now that you mention it, I can't believe I never noticed that.  Thanks.
Only if you have the 'Self-Contained' box checked.  Otherwise you'll end up with a reference movie.
Correct.  That box is typically checked by default.  There are other default settings you could change that would not result in a full-quality version, but what I meant was hitting that option from the pull-down menu, then changing nothing and hitting ok.

  • Using Apple TV/Airplay for a full screen movie and opening new window on laptop

When I have a full screen movie playing on my TV in AirPlay dual screen mode, and I open a new Safari window or my Mail, the window appears seemingly by default on top of the movie rather than coming up on my laptop monitor.  Is there a spot I can reset the default for new Safari windows and Mail windows to my laptop monitor, so they don't interrupt the movie on my TV?
Background: my girls love Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife which I find terribly boring, and need to find something to do while the movies are playing rather than fall asleep! And you know what happens if Safari shows up over top of their beloved Downton!

it being mirror and many tv's being widescreen 16:9 and the screen of ios device not being widescreen this happen
most tv's support having top and button chopped or streghed to fill the tv this is something one does with the tv's remote

  • Full Screen Movies

    Hi;
I have the following code in Python to display my movies:
    <object classid='clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000' width='%s' height='%s' id='Maya2012Main' name='Maya2012Main'>

    </object>''' % (str(int(round(wn*1008))), str(int(round(wn*548))), page, str(int(round(wn*1008))), str(int(round(wn*548))), page)
I test the requesting browser for the screen width, but this is not optimal. Isn't there a simple way to make width=100%?
    TIA,
    Beno

Mmm.. Interesting... because I am using Firefox 2.0.0.4. I am
also using Firefox 2.0.0.6 on my laptop like you are, and it seems

why full screen will not work on Firefox. What I find interesting

published? I will try some further testing.
I am concerned because there are likely many users of earlier
Firefox versions, and I need to produce a full screen which will
work no matter which Firefox Version you use.
    Thanks!

Is your problem that the browser window refuses to display at

  • FULL LENGTH MOVIES?? (HELP)

Hello... I received an 8GB Ipod Nano (3rd Gen) for Christmas...and the reason I asked for it in the first place was because it included video playback (i did see a couple of ads with 'zoolander' and 'the matrix' on the site...) so i naturally thought it would play full length movies (does it?...at least it has the memory).
PROBLEM IS every time i attempt to sync a full length movie (obviously in mpeg-4 file) near the end a window pops saying "ATTEMPTING TO CONNECT TO LEX-POD FAILED. THE DISK COULD NOT BE READ OR WRITTEN TO". The file i was trying to sync was 113 minutes long. It has synced other videos, but only in the 4 - 30 minute range. It plays games and music perfectly fine (artwork and all). My computer is up to date... and i have no idea what could be happening, so if anybody could help me with this issue I would highly appreciate it.

well...basically i figured out the way to put a full length movie into my ipod nano. i guess i wasn't paying much attention to the resolution...and lets just say i changed from 'videora' to 'jodix free ipod converter'...so thats about it! ^_^

  • Trying to export a full rez movie from Premeire Pro CS4

I've looked aroud the forums and it seems a lot of people are having the same issue, but I haven't seen a fix for this.
Below is a screen shot of the export settings I'm using to try and export a full rez movie (I'm not picky, H264, Qtime TIFF sequence, anything). Notice the image in the preview window. That's what it's supposed to look like, and the preview within Premiere is fine.
Below is the pixelated image I get when rendering with any combination of maxed out settings.
The content of the video is predominantly motion graphics, rendered at D1/DV widescreen settings, prorgessive.
I've tried all the Quicktime settings even with "None" selected in the Codec dropdown as well as the H264 settings you see above.
I'm on a Mac as well.
Can anyone help please? I need to know how to just get an export from Premiere CS4 with all the footage intact and not pixelated.

yeah, youre dealing with a standard ntsc video size export which is 720x480, so its handling your 720x486 source and export the only way it knows how ( sorta scaling internally etc on export )..hence crop..
looks like your original graphics images ( source files -- source graphics images ) are not matching the project size....
in other words it looks like your source graphics were "scaled" to some extent when imported to the project.  that should actually "match" for really good results... the source graphics should match the project dimensions ( without scaling )... the reason is that in the scaling process the editor doesn't do a good job of anti aliasing and so on ( photoshop is better at scaling for example and there are other 3rd party programs that are better for up scaling ( interpolated ) than photoshop..some can be had as plug ins for psd )..
anway, the problem looks to be the scaling....cause ideally your graphics should match the project dimensions ( without scaling )
ps...scaling DOWN is better than scaling UP...with regard the aliasing you see

  • Full Screen movies do not work in Firefox

    Hi All,
I am having a problem publishing Flash 8 movies full screen.
They are fine in Internet Explorer. But Firefox crops the full
screen so that you only see a portion of the full screen movie.
I am using Firefox 2.0.0.4, as well as version 2.0.0.6 on my
laptop. Can't get full screen to work in Firefox most of the time,
but occasionally it seems to work. Is this a Firefox problem, or
    Captivate problem?
An example, look at the full screen movie:
