Harddrive upgrade -- OS X instillation woes. What did I do?

Recently I purchased a 1.33 iBook on ebay for my wife. Upon receiving it I swapped out the 40GB with a Seagate 100GB. I then installed OS 10.4 (not the iBook grey discs, but the retail version)
Well this caused problems, no mouse trackpad use, and more.
Now, the iBook install discs aren't recognized. Either they don't mount, or the computer says that it's blank or does not recognize it.
Oh, I did Erase the 100 with OS Journaled.
Now, I've never owned a computer so new that the OS retail version was older than the computer's needs.
What do I do now? I'm real close to reinstalling the 40. But if anyone can tell me how to fix this problem I'd appreciate it.
I've tried everything from target disc installing (with a 10.4.6) to external DVD drive istall.
If no one has a resolution... can someone atleast tell me what I've done?

Your 1.33GHz G4 iBook does not support using the retail copy of Mac OS X 10.4. Take a look at:

Chances are the "build" of Mac OS X 10.4 on the retail disks is not new enough to support your iBook. I would make sure to get the original disks with your eBay purchase. If they're not available, you can get a set of original install disks from AppleCare Support for about $60.

Hi tlaclair, when I click that link, here is what I see (observed using the Fiddler2 program, which intercepts web traffic between your browser and websites):
(1) The server at link.p0.com sets 1 cookie and redirects to http://t.mookie1.com/t/v1/event?migClientId=181&migAction=email-click&migSource=mig&migDest=http%3a%2f%2forder.dominos.com
(2) Firefox follows the redirect and the server at t.mookie1.com sets 3 cookies and redirects to http://order.dominos.com
(3) Firefox follows the redirect and the server at order.dominos.com redirects to a secure session ([https://order.dominos.com/])
These kinds of redirects are completely standard; if you set Firefox to warn you about redirects, then a bar usually appear below the address where you can click an Allow button to continue. You can check whether you have this feature turned on here:

If Firefox isn't blocking the redirect, it's possible that one of your add-ons is doing it. A standard diagnostic for interference by add-ons is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the Safe Mode dialog, do not check any boxes, just click "Continue in Safe Mode."
If the link works correctly, this points to one of your add-ons or custom settings as the problem.

What did the EFI update do?

Exactly what did the update do? It said it fixed start up, and wake from sleep problems.
I'm wondering if it fixed my problem, or if I still have to re-install OSX.
I called apple care a few days ago, they said that my hard drive wasn't mounting correctly, and thats what gave me the folder with question mark when I had to restart my MBP because a freeze.
Does anyone know if the update will help me there? Or if I should just go ahead and re-install OSX? I would prefer not to re-install OSX, because I dont want to have to re-install all the updates, FCE, and replace all my files that I have backed up on my Ipod right now.

The mounting problem could be a problem with the operating system.
When you start your computer and it goes through a list of things to do as it starts up. Somewhere along the line your computer has turned on the harddrive and has said hello only to find that the software on the harddrive isn't saying hi back.
The guy on the phone thinks that by reinstalling the operating system on the harddrive you will fix the communication problem that is occuring between the computer and harddrive. I agree with him. By reinstalling the operating system you will find the problem should go away. Otherwaise if it doesn't you may need to call Apple Care and tell them your problem and what you have done so far to fix it. They will most likely replace the Harddrive which shouldn't take them too much time.
This is a very simple and not completely correct way of explaining what may be / may not be happening with your harddrive.

Install instructions for CS6 upgrade for WIndows missing - in what order should files be run?

After over 14 days of dealing with the idiots at Adobe Support, opening and closing of 2 cases multiple times, promised emails not being sent (and being blamed for having my email set up to filter out Adobe emails), attempts to charge me for the already approved "free" upgrade, and then having an order for a physical disk version of the CS6 upgrade cancelled by some bonehead, I finally was able to download the CS6 upgrade files. Only to discover that there are no installation instructions for Windows if you did not use the Akamai download manager (which I did not).
There are a total of 6 files in the download directory, all downloaded from the CS6 upgrade download page.
- In what order should the files be run? Just run the .exe files, or do some files need to be extracted/unzipped first?
A second question: my CS5.5 version was never installed, and never registered.
- Will the CS6 upgrade accept its serial number directly, or do I have to do something else through Adobe Support?

Turned domain server into DC. Groups did not translate over. Share permissions changed. What did I do?

I have two servers that are on a 2008 Active Directory Domain. Server 1 was originally the main DC, while server 2 was just a domain member. I upgraded the second server by adding DNS and Active Directory to the roles, and then used Server Manager
to do the DC Promo thing.
For some reason, the shares on this second server now are seeing some of the groups that had were controlling access to the shares on this server showing up as Account Unknown. My users can't get into the shares anymore. Errors suggest they
no longer have permissions.
What did I miss? Those groups exist on the first server, and have the right users in them.

You are right that my last reply only applies to the first Domain Controller in the domain.
I added a additional DC into the domain, its local users didn't show in ADUC, then I demoted it, and its local users were gone.

I agree with Christoffer. I'm happy to hear your lab results provided you the same information.
If the original poster did see the local users and groups appear in ADUC after the promotion, it's telling me that it was promoted into a brand new domain/forest and not as a replica.
The shares should show up, and I understand that if any of the local users and groups were in the ACL that they should now show up as Unknown User, but if the users and groups showed up in ADUC, then something went wrong.
If the original poster, Emmette, can provide us a specific step by step on how the second DC was promoted, along with an ipconfig /all from each DC,
that will better help us understand what occurred, and help us provide assistance to fix it.

after upgrading Iphoto 9.5 a page opened requiring to upgrade my library. As it did not work out,for fear of losing all my pictures I loaded Iphoto 9.4.3 with Time machine but I had lost quite a few photos. As a matter of fact, after searching , I found them In Photo library in 'images' on my hard drive. When I double click, 9.5 appears with all my pictures. Therefore, I would like to use 9.5 just by by clicking on the icon down my finder and not by being obliged to open my hard drive.

So, you have restored 9.4.3 from Time Machine but can see all your pictures in 9.5?
Do you have two version of iPhoto on your Machine?
And if you didn't update the Library, ("as it did not work out,") how can you see things in 9.5?
So, whatever set up you have is confusing.

Did you check your security software settings? iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues
Since you installed the new iTunes 10.5, you might have to change the settings for it.

Remove "MacKeeper" as follows. First, back up all data.
"MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper—for example, by dragging the application to the Trash and emptying—then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Restart the computer.
☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
☞ Don't empty the Trash. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
☞ Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.

ICloud renewal, what did I lose?

My credit card on file expired yesterday. I got an email at 2:30pm saying they were going to renew my iCloud service and debit my card. I got another email at 10pm saying my card was declined so I lost my cloud service. Why no grace? What did I lose?

I believe that message can sometimes be a sign of a corrupt library file, unless of course you've tried to downgrade to an older build of iTunes. Your previous library file should have been archived in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder at the start of the upgrade process. Restore it as described in this post.

What did FireFox do to my computer???

windows 7. I was on ff5 and life was wonderful. one day while clicking the okay to open firefox button, it was as though I was hijacked into a 6.0 upgrade. from that moment on, my yahoo home page "modified" to some beta version, all of my email page display fonts (in both aol and yahoo) have reduced to a size so tiny I can barely read it, any web browsing freezes about every 5 minutes no matter what I'm doing - whether composing mail, playing a crossword, writing this forum paragraph, switching tabs, opening drop down menus......anything done while the browser window is open. yet, I close out firefox/mozilla and instead open internet explorer and life is totally back to normal. font sizes are large, pages dont freeze, my yahoo page is back to normal............wtf?!
I've rolled back to 5.0, back to 3.6 and still I get the freezing, page reformatting, email downsizing, etc.
this is AWFUL! it has affected my entire web experience. I dont wish to use IE as it has too many issues of its own.

Don't panic.
You can uninstall the buggy 6.0 and reinstall 5.0.1. Just uninstall and then do a quick search for "download FireFox 5.0.1" and follow the link.
Make sure to turn "automatic updates" OFF.
In fact, with the bugginess of the new, rushed releases, I recommend this for everyone. Don't let FF automatically update until YOU CHOOSE to update it.
I don't recommend any updating until you come here and find a reasonably bug-free release.
That way, you can still enjoy the FF version you love, without having to be "forced" to update anything.

I used the iframe code from Facebook's "Like Button" site; and inserted the code in the html widget popup box, then positioned it where I wanted it on my page and published. It looks fine (though I had to add "http" before my url to get it to show up).
So, when a user clicks on button, a pop-up opens asking for Facebook password. When I (the user) enter a password, nothing happens after that. I thought the idea was that a user would be able to show their friends that they like my website. After I entered my password in pop-up after clicking on "Like" I went to my facebook page (a company page) to see if it showed that I (the user that clicked on "Like" on iweb) recommended the website. But nothing showed up. I thought maybe it was because Facebook associated my password as the admin for the Facebook page so didn't count it. But a friend tried it and same thing happened. I went back and on one page I put in another facebook code for a combo Like/Send button. It shows up but acted the same as the regular Like button.
Questions:
1. Is this the way the Like Button is suppose to work? Only benefit of Like button being that it just counts the clicks on the Like button and does NOT let users share their recommendation with their friends?
2. If it's suppose to let users share their "Likes" with their friends, what did I do wrong? There were three types of code but in reading discussions, they all say to use iframe. (I used the first choice which I think was html for Javascript SDK and put that in my HTML Snippit box and the Like/Share button showed up on my iweb page next to the facebook icon and the words "likes this" but when I click it, I don't see instructions that it's sending my recommendation to my friends.)
I must have done something wrong, but can't figure out what. Does anyone know? If the only benefit of the Like Button is the counter, it doesn't seem worthwhile.

They recieve a message in the inbox.
There's no post on a page.
If they want that, then they should share the link themselves.
Perhaps it's best to study what facebook has to offer and how it works instead of guessing what it is supposed to do and be disappointed.
