Hardlocked Z30

Hi
I have purchased unlock codes over the Internet to unlock my BB Z30. The last code bought for $20 was also the 10th attempt and now my phone is hardlocked. Present carrier is TELUS.
Anyone who has experienced a similar problem and knows the solution? Please help.

  • Satellite Z30 vs Portege Z30

From what I can tell (and have confirmed with Toshiba Customer support) the Satellite Z30 is identical to the Portege Z30 except for the following differences:
    * The Portege Z30 has Active Management Technology (AMT), allowing certain remote administration for enterprise environments
    * The Portege Z30 has a 3 year warranty (as opposed to the Satellite's 1 year)
    * The Portege Z30 is preinstalled with Windows 7 and Windows 7 system restore partitions (and Windows 8.1 media provided) whereas the Satellite comes preinstalled with Windows 8.1 system and restore partitions
My question is whether the roll out of an image taken from a Portege Z30's Windows 7 installation will transfer to Satellite Z30 machines? I suspect there will be no issues with the hardware, but am curious about the Windows activation and whether the SLP key on the Satellites will match the Portege.

I don't have time to check exact difference because these two models because notebooks are country specific products and it can happen that offer in your country is not the same as in some other and you can check this by your local dealer.
Anyway, at first I must say that that Portege notebooks are business line products. Satellite models are more for people who don't have some special needs and mostly common notebook users.
With Portege line Toshiba offers some benefits like better hardware, more options, very often two operating systems, maybe some additional software and of course different warranty conditions.
According to this Portege notebooks are more expensive.
Back to your question: recovery image is specific image designed for certain notebook model.
I don't know which Portege do you mean exactly. Toshiba offers Z30-A and Z30T-A. For instance Z30-A is offered as 6 different models. You know it is not easy to say how it will works.
Theoretically you can try to install this image and see what will happen.
I don't know if you will be so lucky to find someone here who can confirm that such installation will be 100% OK.

  • Sim error MM#3 (If it isn't the sim, could it be hardware related?) - Z30

So yesterday I get off a phone call and I get kicked off the mobile network. I look in settings and it is shifting from Bell then to Rogers (I'm on Telus) with sim MM#3 error.
I called support, and they told me everything is fine on their end. So I tried a restart and it fixed the problem. But today, I had the same MM#3 message after ending a call. Another restart and it's fine. I called Telus again and this time they said remove the sim and put it back in. Did that.
The phone is working still, but if it happens again I'm not sure what to do. Obviously I'd get another SIM, but I'm also curious it it could be hardware related? I've had the Z30 since November 2013 and I've never had this issue before.
Any thoughts? Is there any way to run a diagnostic on the phone itself to test for hardware issues?

I would also recommend a new SIM card. I haven't seen this issue with other #Z30 devices.

  • Buy Unlocked Z10 or Z30?

I plan to purchase one or the other, eventually. Direct from BlackBerry, the Z10 is $300 and the Z30 is $500 (although the Z30 doesn't appear to be in stock at the moment). Those are great bargains from my standpoint; although, I assume that those prices stem from poor sales volumes. I'm just not sure which is best for me. I already have a PlayBook - which I'm happy with - so I have some familiarity with Blackberry. My thinking is that since I already have the PlayBook, is the larger screen size of the Z30 going to be worth the extra cash and larger form factor? Here are some factors to consider:
    > I'm not much of a gamer, nor do I stream much audio or video.
    > If I'm at home, I would probably do any internet surfing with the PlayBook.
    > While I'm out, the main activities would be messaging, checking email, brief internet activities like checking an address, making a payment, taking a few pics, etc. And, of course, making rare phone calls.
I know the Z30 has superior battery life, but since I'm unlikely to engage in major battery draining activities, is that really an issue? Is the removeable/replaceable battery of the Z10 much of an advantage? Batteries degrade over time and eventually require replacement. What do you do with a smartphone when a non-replaceable battery no longer holds a sufficient charge?
Have I talked myself into going with the Z10? Are there any other factors that I'm not considering here?

It's very interesting theme and You definitely have to think about it some couple of time. Difference between Z10 and Z30 don't lies at battery replacement ability only.
Z30 is far more "techy". It has USB OTG function; it means You can connect external keyboard and mouse and any kind of another USB device and it is possible to connect multiple devices when USB hub is used. Again, Z30 has Miracast function, it means You can connect large monitor or TV wirelessly.
Both functions above mentioned with appropriate software presents on BBW give you option to make wireless deal with Your PC remotely.
Also Z30 has FM radio which absents on Z10.
For me, they are very cool features but guess what smart I have? Yes, I have Z10.
Main Z10 pros are size and weight, and after I got both devices in my hands all questions gone, because I don't want to have some kind of spade for digging grass beside my house and I'm not teen with extraordinary size pockets to carry 5' device. It's big and that's all. I don't want it.
I forgot to mention: Blackberry's choice to make battery non-removable is clever idea: not battery limits its life but display type: Z30 has AMOLED display, i.e. organic LEDs. Time of their degradation for current technology is somewhere about 3 years

  • Z30 not boot: no screen, not led lights, nothing...

    Hi,
I can't believe this is happening to me. it's mt 4th blackberry, but something like that never happened before.
    I have z30 for a year now.
today, after finished a phone call and starting a new phone call, the phone calls app stop responding. so I decided to restart my phone.
I did a restart (with the menus) and the blackberry stuch on the white blackberry logo. I tried a several times, with charger without charger, I pressed a 5 seconds on the power menu to get it restart over and over and the same result.
after the red light the blackberry white logo appeared on the screen and that's it. I waited an hour, but it's just stuck there.
I didn't install any new apps lately.
so I connected the blackberry to the pc and try with the blackberry link software to do a manufactor reset.
it's failed right at the beginning. It's look like when the red light appear it connected to the pc and when the blackberry logo appear it's disconnected from the pc.
so I thought to make an os upgrade. I just don't care anymore about my data, just to get the phone work again.
so I downloaded a new os version from here and it start ok. detect the blackberry, start to load the image and the about 30% it says "failed to load image" and that's it.
the blackberry now dont even start. no lights when pressing the button, tried to reinstall the os upgrade, nothing....
is my blackberry z30 is dead?
can I do something to fix it? buy a new motherboard or something?
    thanks for your help...

My opinion its just a bad luck. Hardware parts can start to malfunction.
My Toshiba notebook has been running since 6 years without any troubles.
My parents bought an notebook from another manufacture. After two days the motherboard died. Simply bad luck it was pity but the dealer replaced the faulty unit and since then it runs ok.
Mostly its not matter what notebook you would purchase. Such issues may happen simply.

    Hello soggy001

    Make restarted the z30?
If your problem evidences the persistence
Apply a hard reset keep the power button for 30 seconds.

I recommend you make a reload of the BlackBerry OS Link
Connect your z30 and run BBLink
Then go to preference and press the reload option software
Let the process do all your work, and then you start setting your BB
    And load your backup.

  • Z30 availability Orange / O2 Uk

Just a quick question on the availability off the Z30.
My business contract is up for renewal at the end of November. Im wanting to stay with Blackberry and im very interested in the Z30. Im currently with Orange and due to my geography of my work area i need either them or O2 as a provider.
Whenever ive spoken to someone from Orange / O2 when the Z30 will become available, i just keep getting a shrugged shoulder answer, and been advised to speak to yourselves directly for any more information on this ?
Im unable due to work / security to purchase the phone though Carphone Warehouse (CWP) or other similar companies and has to be a direct from a major network provider.
Any help i would very much appreciate.
    Cheers.

The BlackBerry forums are not a formal support for BlackBerry most answers you get here will come from volunteers (such as myself).
Even if someone from BlackBerry were to read this posting I think it very unlikely they would tell you as they will have contracts and confidentiality agreements in place with Orange / O2 preventing them from doing so.
You'll just have to keep checking the O2 and Oranges sites.
Perhaps next time you talk to them threaten to leave unless they can guarantee you get one or ask to extend your contract by a month.

  • Re: Satellite Z30-A with Win 8.1 - Driver update confusion

    Hello,
I have a question regarding driver updates. Currently, Windows Update recommends me to update the audio driver (important) and the LAN driver (optional). Toshiba Service Station, however, doesnt offer new drivers for these devices.
My question is whether I should install these updates (particularly the important one) or if they are not approved by Toshiba yet?
Moreover, does anyone have a changelog for the new 3.8 Bios?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the quick replies! I was just tempted because one of the updates was classified as "important", for whatever reason, which are normally those updates that should be installed (e.g. for security reasons). In fact you are right, I dont have any problems with my laptop.
Sorry, forgot to state the model: Z30-A with Win 8.1
Any ideas about the bios update?
    Thanks!

  • New BB Z30 Freezing, Docs are unable to Open, microSD card automatically formatted after restart, unable to open Some Pictures, Long time for Charging

I purchased a new BlackBerry Z30 recently from http://store.shopblackberry.com/store/bbrryus/en_US/pd/productID.298806900/categoryID.66826600/paren... and my Phone Model number is STL 100-5. I also purchased a Z30 Leather flip case manufactured by BlackBerry. I am using my BlackBerry Z30 along with the Z30 Leather flip case.
    1) Within the first 2 weeks of receiving and using the new BB Z30 device, I noticed a problem of screen not responding some times. My phone has been freezed at the lock screen. My phone is not responding to any key except for the power button. So, I had an option of only restart/Turn Off my BlackBerry Z30 device. All the time whenever I had this problem, I have to restart my device in order to make it work properly again. I complained about this issue with BlackBerry Technical Support. They assisted me to reset the device to factory settings by taking a full backup. After reset also, I still had the same issue.
    2) I am using Sandisk Extreme microSD card of 32GB with my BB Z30 device. Some times due to the restart option, all the data which I had on my microSD card is being erased and is filled with an unknown files.
    3) I'm also unable to open some pictures which I have taken using BlackBerry Z30. As I observed, most of the pictures which I taken using Blackberry Z30 are unable to be open/view them after a few days. Still, I am able to observe the properties of those pictures. They are in JPEG format only.
4)Also If I create a Word Document on BlackBerry Z30 using Docs to Go Application and saved it. After closing that particular document and If I try to open it, the document file is not opening and projecting me an error of "This is not a valid .Doc file", but while I check the properties of that particular document it is in .doc format. I tried to transfer the file to my laptop using bluetooth. After a few seconds (approx 2-3 seconds) automatically the transferring is cancelled by the BlackBerry Z30 device. However, I tried to transfer the file within that short time using Bluetooth. While I tried to open it on my laptop using Microsoft Office 2013, the file is displaying with a squares of upto 4 pages while I had a content in it of 3 lines only. While I opened my file using Microsoft Office 2013, there is only squares available in that document.
    5)  My new BlackBerry Z30 is taking a long time of approximately 6-7 hours to charge the device from 10% to 100%
I request someone to help me with this issues. I would like to thank everyone who can help me with these issues in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

On 7th of Jan 2015 I made my device to factory reset. Also I removed microSD card from my device. As I observed for these 3 days, one time while I received a missed call, I tried to have a look at it. I observed that my screen has been freeze at the receiving call position and its not responding. I tried to close and reopened the display of my device with a flip case which I'm currently using for my device. At this time, after 3-4 swipes to unlock the device, again its back into working condition.
About Documents, I'm able to create, save and open the documents without any issues till now.
About Pictures, they are also working fine without any issues.
I also observed the charging time as approximately 3 hours for charging the device from 14% to 100%.

  • [Solved] pacman errors out after a hardlock

Hi, I experienced a hardlock today due to a bad memory stick during a pacman update. Now pacman tells me this (with --debug):
    looking for inter-conflicts...
    debug: looking for conflicts
    debug: check targets vs targets
    debug: check targets vs targets
debug: check targets vs db and db vs targets
    debug: check targets vs db

    debug: checkdeps: package openoffice-base-3.1.0-1
debug: returning error 33 from compute_download_size : package filename is not valid
error: failed to prepare transaction (package filename is not valid)
I deinstalled openoffice-base but I still get the same error.
Oh I think I found the culprit, in /var/lib/pacman/sync/extra/openoffice-base-3.1.0-1/ all files are empty.
    I'm removing this directory now...
    execute pacman -Syu again
    still doesn't work
someone on IRC suggests pacman -Syy, this forces a synchronization of the database
I did that and now I do pacman -S openoffice-base.
This works, it's downloading openoffice-base from one of the mirrors now.
    I thought I'd share this.

Thanks for sharing, I'm sure it'll help out someone in the future.

  • Microsoft Calendar – BB Z30 Fix – Well it worked for me!

I am an avid MS Outlook user on my home PC and where I am based at work (I'm freelance). I chose my Z30 because I have owned BB’s before and they were excellent with synchronising to Outlook, but had strayed to Apple then Samsung but found my way back to BB because the calendars wouldn't work as I needed them! So think of what I felt when my brand shining new Z30, would no longer do what my previous BB’s did for breakfast! Since that fatal day I have literally tried every fix I could read from these and many other blogs, but to no avail. I was about to launch this Z30 out of an open window, when a light bulb inside my head suddenly got switched on.
Could MS Outlook.com be the answer? It was a similar plan to one I had already tried using my Easily,co.uk calendar with an Open exchange server (recommended and downloadable from Easily.co.uk), but one which had completely and utterly failed; and Easily.co.uk to my horror were less than useless in trying to resolve all the issues I had trying to employ this solution!
Anyway, I registered for a MS Outlook.com email account. I already have my own personal domain and email (let’s call this mydomain.co.uk) account with Easily.co.uk which I forwarded direct to my new outlook.com account. My initial fear was that by using Outlook.com all my emails would be addressed outlook.com. But MS in their infinite wisdom provide options to add email accounts and for the user to be able to promote your chosen one to be the default primary. So the first issue out of the way!
The next thing was to create a new email account in my MS Outlook using [email protected] via MS’s very own Exchange ActiveSync! All I had to do was to:
Goto E-mail Accounts; New; chose E-Mail Account; [Next]; then enter: Your Name; email address ([email protected]); password (my outlook.com password); retype password (as before); (Next) and away it goes and creates your new exchange account!
Now your new account includes your email, calendar and contacts!!! It will show up at the top of your folder list (left hand side) possible named [email protected] (or whatever your email address is). SIMPLES!
But here comes the tricky part, as much as you are attached to the safety of the bosom of your PST/IMAP outlook, it’s time to say goodbye and go out into the big wide world of exchange services! BUT FIRST LOCATE AND MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR CURRENT PST or OST and ARCHIVE FILES. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Next is to delete your PST/IMAP email (NOT YOUR DATA FILES): WARNING Do not delete your data files if asked (as you will lose any emails contained in there)!!!!
Goto E-mail Accounts; highlight your pst or imap email account; chose [Remove]! You should be left at minimum with your new outlook.com account! Then go to the Data Files tab and you should see your new data file [email protected] and possibly your pst/imap data files! If you can’t see these and you wish to keep these in operation, you can add them by clicking add; then navigating to where your pst/ost file was and click on it. There it should be loaded and all your old folders should reappear, once again in the left hand folder list possibly named ‘Mailbox’ but whatever your pst/imap file was named.
Now as the calendar was my biggest issue, the thing you need to do now is make your new outlook.com calendar the primary (in fact I no longer use my pst version – it’s still there for prosperity but no longer used). I did a combination of copying the entries from old to new (do this by showing both calendars side by side and literally moving an event from old to new) however, for everything to sync properly I would recommend that you resend any work events from your work pc again (as not all behaved as expected when I originally copied them over) and any local events redo in the new calendar. I know it’s frustrating and ball-aching but the results will far outweigh this!
Now its time for the BB Z30! Goto Settings; accounts; [Add Account]; [Advanced} [outlook.com]; fill in the relevant blanks. If outlook.com does not appear on the advanced page, return to add account; enter your outlook.com email address; [Next]; enter your outlook.com password; [Next] and the email app should go away and find all the correct settings and that should be that, you should be set up with your new account.
Once it was all complete and I knew my emails were all working I deleted my old account. I then crossed my fingers, my toes and even my eyes, and went to calendar, ticked the show calendar box and there she was! Brilliant, I hear you say, but NO! Only a few of the events eventually started to show! Disaster and quite a few expletives burst from my mouth! I was extremely gutted!
However I decided to persevere and so the next day I sent myself a new invite from my work PC and it was delivered to my BB. I opened it and pressed [Accept] and it placed the invite exactly where it should. Success! I then altered my event on my work PC and sent an update and once again success, it was delivered and I accepted and it updated! I then cancelled the event on the PC, and received the cancel notice opened it and hit [Remove] and it did it! Absolutely brilliant and exactly what I needed it do! This type of thing isn't rocket science, but it had taken nearly 4 months to get here!!!!
So then I noticed one or two more events had appeared in my calendar! Strange or what and over the next few days they all turned up! So do be patient! Now my home PC calendar and my Z30 are in full sync, emails and calendar and even contacts!
All I will add is that this worked for me, I hope it works for you but I can’t accept any blame if it causes any of your pc’s or phones any harm, damage or loss of critical data. ALWAYS BACK THINGS UP FIRST! Good Luck!

i have done similar for my wife, active sync with a smart phone works well with outlook.

  • Z30 won't work with Bose SoundLink Mini

Does anyone have a problem playing music to the Bose SoundLink Mini via bluetooth? This is the first time I try pairing my Z30 to the Bose speaker using bluetooth. It says the Bose speaker is connected however I cannot hear any music coming out of the speaker. All I hear is this short pulsing sounds. I'm able to pair my iPhone and play the music fine. I'm wondering if this is a blackberry bluetooth issue?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I used it with Z10 and now use it with my Passport. Also use it with PlayBook.
Given the speaker works with another device, I agree the problem is with the Z30 and not the speaker.
Have you checked for any other audio problems? Strictly a problem over bluetooth?
    Have you rebooted and tested?
Have you tried a soft reset and tested?
Have you deleted the pairing, re-paired, and tested?
