Hardrive almost Full!

I have a 933 MHz Power PC G4 w/ a 60 GB HD. My hard drive is showing only 5.73 GB's left. I don't understand where all my drive space has gone? I do not have an extraordinary number of programs on my system i.e PE3 & 4, Microsoft OFC 4, nor do we have a lot of documents stored on the computer. It is just a recreational computer, not used for business. My daughter uses iTunes and I utilize iPhoto for image storage; but not close to 60 Gigs worth! We don't have a lot of iLife stuff, just a few slideshows and one movie. I do have an external firewire drive where I have downloaded my daughter's birth video.
How can I go about checking mine and my kids folders & files to see where all the space has gone? Where do I start? I have looked in the Macintosh HD Library, but I am not an expert in analyzing that. There doesn't seem to be anything that is so extrordinarily large that I can determine.
Can anyone help give me some tips as to how to check my system to look for areas that there might be large files that I might not have noticed; and if so, what is safe to delete w/o crashing my system.

I don't know how I saved so many images in so many places over the past 3/4 years. All I do is import or whatever the command was depending on the version of iPhoto to iPhoto. All i want to do is clean up my drive w/o deleting any of my images, but I don't know where to start. I have also used iPhoto Diet, but that doesn't seem to have eliminated this bloated mess.
Can anyone help me out of my overcrowded mess before I run out of space? I'm not a mac 'genius'. I need simple advice as to what to look for & what I can delete.Thanks for any advice and help you can give.

Never let a drive get more than 80% to 85% full.
AND keep 50-100 GB of free space on a startup drive to allow proper function of virtual memory in all OS X versions from 10.5x to current versions.
10.4x can get by with 20 GB of free space on the boot drive, but more is always better.
I try and keep all boot drives between 50 and 60% of capacity.
Beyond 60% and up to 90% capacity, seek times increase almost exponentially; performance suffers.

Startup Disk almost full. - Huge Yellow Other bar

I am beginning to lose all hope that I am actually going to get this problem fixed. I have had this problem for months now. Basically I keep getting a message pop up saying my startup disk is almost full. However all i have on my laptop is pictures! I don't understand. is 3,217 a lot of pictures? My Macbook has 4gb memory... is this just too small??? Do I need to buy an external hardrive? But what I really don't understand is, the 'other' bar is huge! It is 59.38GB. What is it!? How can I fix this?? Please don't say empty the recycle bin becasue I have lost count of the number of times I have done this. The main question I have is, is it a virus??? The 4GB of memory is the RAM not the storage on your hard drive. There is nothing there that would show up in where you are refering to.
First have you emptied the iPhoto trash? iPhoto has it's own trash, in the left side bar. You can open that then use COMMAND + A to select all that is there, then SHIFT + COMMAND + DELETE to send it to the regular trash then delete that. Also you can delete any downloads in your download folder, get rid of any movies you don't need any longer.

Help. My icloud storage is almost full. Because of that I can't back up my iphone. My friends and I can't figure out why it is so full. It is in the photo area, but nothing seems crazy big. I only have about 315 photos and 20 videos on my phone. Not even long videos - all are 5 minutes or less. Anyone have advise on what to look for?

HardDisk almost full suddenly on a Desktop 3000 S200 Vista

Would someone be kind enough to give me a hand? My Desktop is Lenovo 3000 S200 (9684-A24)
running on a Win Vista.
The system was purchased 5 months ago. I haven't kept many files or install much software. But the hard disk, originally having a 320GB in memory, is almost full now. It shows that there's 293GB being utilized on the SW_Preload(C : ).
It seems that the system is still running OK even though the speed is no quite satisfactory. I'm afraid I'll facing problem in the near future.
Please give me some advice if anyone has got the experience & fix it before. Thanks a lot in advance!!

hello the resuce and recovery must have made base backups in ur system also try disabling volume shadow copy only if you dont require it
i would sujjest a nift utility like tune up utilities 2008 believe me it works great and saved 4 gb on my ultimate

It is a hard one.. laptops with small drives are a pain.
What you need is a home media server.
Some people use a PC running itunes for cost.. but that is nothing like as good as using a Mac mini.. they make great little HTPC device.. you can plug in large hard disks and store all your files and media. And share it with the network.. Read up apple's instructions on home sharing.

For cost you can buy a mini from 2011 or 2012.. I would not recommend earlier ones.. the advantage of 2012 is they have USB3 ports. But you will pay more for them.. new mini is not as useful.. they have soldered in memory and you cannot upgrade.. the old mini was the most easily modified mac in the whole range. Uses little power and can be bought for a $300US for a good one second hand.. maybe less.

You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Delete any other mail in your Junk folders. Also, look through your Sent Mail to see if there is anything that can be deleted.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

Why is my Macbook pro with OS lion prompting me my startup disk almost full when i have deleted many files, photos and videos? Even thrashing them doesn't help. There seems to be an automatic space usage in the background

I have deleted many unwanted files and apps and yet the available space keeps depleting every time i am using my Macbook Pro. I believe under the OS 10.7.4 one of the features is it backups or has backgrounding features which uses memory. Sometimes even when i hv 8GB space after using my Macbook Pro for say 2hrs surfing internet and using Pages which has a "Save Version" feature suddenly my 8GB goes down to 300+MB only and it starts prompting me "My Startup Disk is almost full" once it reaches 1GB space left. How can i get more space.... Please someone can help me? Do i need to re-format my hardisk??!! Any help out there is greatly appreciated.
My original HD is 320GB. And i don't hv too many Apps installed. I do have abt 50-70apps. I do have many photos and videos stored in iPhoto's Library though.

One thing I've noticed is that a shared tab pops up when I open the finder under "favorites" with a random connection. It's called hp68b... None of my friends that I live with have this and we all use the same internet. Two days ago when I would click it and click get info, it said it was a pc. When I checked it today it said it is a "sharepoint" and looks like a harddrive.
I took it too the store after i spilt water on it but when I got it back it ran perfectly fine. I don't know a lot about computer so if somebody could help me. It says I'm connected to it and I can't disconnect or delete it. I don't know if the guy at the computer store put something in my computer and is sharing all my files.

If you're asking if there is a way to add memory to your device, there isn't. iOS devices have a fixed capacity that can't be expanded by using expansion cards or other hardware solutions.
If you're running out of capacity on your devices, the only solution is to store less on your phone. You can import your photos and videos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083, then delete it from your device. If you still want some of the photos on your device, put them in a folder on your computer then select the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and sync your device.
You can also sync only some of your music to your device rather than your entire library, or subscribe to iTunes Match and stream it from iCloud. You can also not keep as many movies, tv shows and other media on your device.

Why am I receiving a "storage almost full" message when I have lots of storage?

My I phone 4 keeps sending message "Storage Almost Full" I have 4,8 GB available and 1.5 used. I have read other threads but nobody has provided the solution that I can see. Deleting photos and apps doesn't work. I think it has something to do with the Cloud but I turned it off and deleted a backup. My video doesn't work well and the battery is being used up too fast. I don't want to store on the cloud or purchase more storage. Someone said that didn't work anyway. Please help! Thanks!

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you are repeatedly getting a message "Storage Almost Full," but your phone is only has 4.8 GB of data on it. This message usually comes up when you are reaching the limits of your iCloud storage. You do not have to purchase additional storage, and can use iTunes to backup your iPhone instead.

Why is my iCloud storage almost full?

Ok now I have seen many questions like this on here before, but none of the answers or even the actual questions fit what my exact problem is.
On my iPhone and iPad, I constantly keep getting these notifications about how my iCloud storage is almost full and there is not enough room to back up my iOS device. When this notification pops up, it has the options to 'Cancel' or go to 'Settings'. Clicking setting brings me to the iCloud tab in the Settings app. Now in this, I go to 'Storage and Backup'. It shows I own 5.0 GB of storage, and about 50 something MB available. So naturally, I click 'Manage Storage' to maybe delete some data being backed up from apps that I dont often use or that contain to much data that I dont want backed up. I go to the iPhone backup tab, and I have every single app turned off to backup, but yet, it says my next backup size is 5.0 GB. I do not understand how this is even possible.
Also, under the iCloud tab that I clicked first, I have 'Mail', 'Contacts', 'Calendars', 'Safari', 'Notes', 'Photos', and 'Find My iPhone' all turned ON. 'Reminders', 'Passbook', and 'Documents & Data" are all OFF.
I understand most of the problem is the Photos and videos on everyone's iPhones. I regularly upload all photos and videos to my iMac, and also delete that I dont need or are not important from my iPhone often. I currently have about 2 dozen pictures on my iPhone, and no videos.
Maybe I am missing something, or forgot a step, but bottom line is I do not know exactly how to solve this problem. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have indicated that you have turned off all of the Apps backup, but you have not indicated exactly what your Camera Roll, and other things that are being backed up are using.
Can you tell us what the total of each item that is being backed up is?
