Hardware Acceleration Causes Blue Screen of Death - Resolution?

My computer running Windows 7 64 bit started crashing with Blue Screen of Death when Viewing YouTube videos or other videos like The Daily Show.  The "solution" was to turn off hardware acceleration.
The crashing appears to have stopped, but now the video quality is degraded and jerky, to the point that the video can just freeze while the audio continues.  So either I crash or I have poor video playback.
Has anyone found a solution to the BSOD that would enable me to re-activate hardware acceleration?
Symptoms with hardware acceleration enabled:  Computer will crash after playing a handful of YouTube or other online Flash videos.  Exact number of successful playbacks varies, but it will usually crash somewhere around the sixth playback (I cruise YouTube the way other cruise Wikipedia.)  The screen will first flash black on one video, and when the next video starts, the computer crashes.

Thanks

Hi Chris, thanks for responding.
Browser:  IE9 64 bit, and Firefox 17.0.1
Dxdiag attached, but are you wanting a version of this after hardware acceleration has been re-enabled and a crash has occurred?
Thanks,
Steve

  • Java causes BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH

I am currently running the newest version of the JRE
    v. 1.4 update 5
Every time Java runs on my system Windows XP Professional crashes and I get the Blue Screen of Death. I attempted to uninstall Java but that would also crash my system. So I reformated my computer and reinstalled everything again. Still the same thing occurs. Java crashes my system. If I open a webpage with Java, the java plugin in the control pannel, or any app which is java based my system crashes.
I read elsewhere on the internet that setting Hardware acceleration to None will fix the problem. This works, but is not a viable soltution. I need my video hardware to run at full acceleration. What's the deal with JAVA?

All device and system drivers are the most up-to-date.

Maybe you should take some reading lessons. That was harsh.
    video cards are top-of-the-line
Nvidia 7800GTX KO PCIe. I have two of them in SLISorry I would be so harsh except I am jealous of your system. Maybe you could make another and give it to me.
mode. My Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filtering
    settings are as follows:
    AA: 8X
AF: 16XBut I already answered your question. I stated in reply 3 with "I bet you have Anti-aliasing and/or Anisoptric Filtering set to something other than application preference".
Would this really cause problems with the JRE? Again if you would read the links I provided. The first one: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do;:YfiG?bug_id=6267861 will give you the answer. And it is really, really, really, really easy for you to test. Just set your Anti-aliasing and/or Anisoptric Filtering to application preference and see if it works.
The other options is to turn off direct3d by setting an enviromental variable. Start->Control Panel->System->Advanced->Environment Variables->New and then add the approperiate value
Would I enter those Java commands under the Java
Console in the Java Runtime Parameters Field? That might work for Applets and Java Web Start. Try it and see.
I reformated my computer twice.Sorry you had to do that.

  • E2500 Wireless Causing Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with My Company's VPN (AT&T Net Client)

Since recently replacing my home router with a Linksys E2500, I have been getting Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with my Company's VPN (AT&T).  It only happens when I am running wireless with my E2500.  If I am hooked up to my E2500 through a ethernet cable it doesn't happen.  I have updated the BIOS on my Lenovo Thinkpad T410 and ensured all of my drivers are up to date.  I am  99.9% sure the problem is caused by my Linksys E2500 because I have used my laptop on other wireless routes at work and school and never get this problem.  I am also ensured that my E2500 has the current firmware installed and upgraded my Company's VPN to the most current level to no avail.
I am getting DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Blue Screen of Death in agnfilt.sys.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The symptoms you describe could be symptomatic of a variety of things to include hardware/software issues, overheating caused by a failed processor fan, bad memory (RAM), failing or underpowered power supply, CPU overheating, motherboard, video card, faulty or unsigned device drivers, CMOS battery going bad, BIOS and firmware problems, dirty hardware components, programs hanging or unresponsive in the background, and even malware. If the computer is overheating, it usually begins to shutdown/restart on a more regular basis.
If the machine is only crashing at home after establishing a connection but not at work when establishing a connection, then its probably an issue with your network configuration or something (i.e. wireless adapter) causing a conflict and not a malware issue.
The DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error is usually due to a bad driver or faulty/incompatible hardware or software. This error condition means that a kernel-mode process or driver tried to access a memory location to which it did not have permission, or at a kernel Interrupt ReQuest Level (IRQL) that was too high.

  • IPod Causing Blue Screen of Death on Windows Vista

I'm posting this in the correct forum now:
For some reason, all of a sudden, whenever I plug in or unplug my iPod to my computer, the computer crashes and quickly shows a blue screen of death before restarting. It has not done this before today. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary with the iPod or the computer that would cause it to do this.
When iTunes opened, it said there was a Windows Update to fix a problem with iPods corrupting upon disconnecting from the PC, but when I tried to download the update, it said something about the update not being needed for this system. The iPod isn't corrupted, everything is still on it. I don't know what the deal is.
I tried system restore back to like a week ago, but this did nothing to help.

First, update the USB Root Driver on your computer: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136 Even if there are no new drivers for your computer, follow the last part of the article and let Windows update your USB driver.
Second, be sure you are using a rear port on your computer.
Third, with only the iPod, mouse and keyboard connected (no speakers, no mic, nothing else), reassign the drive letter on your iPod. Try M or P or Z: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499

  • Adobe Bridge CS4 causes Blue Screen of Death! Help?

    Can anyone help?
I keep getting a Blue Screen of Death every so often when I am using Adobe Bridge CS4 and another program, either Photoshop or Bryce or Cinema4D.
When I have been working in the other program for a while and attempt to return to Bridge, the instant I click on the bridge icon in the low taskbar, the PC blue screens and everything dies instantly with no time to read the blue screen or to take a photo of it, never mind do anything useful like save the file I was working on.
I have winXP Pro and an NVidia Ge Force 8800 GTS graphics card. (both are up to date)
I recently got the Adobe updates but there wasn't one for Bridge.
Buckets full of memory: 289GB free on the C drive and I store most (work) things on my F drive which is a terrabyte with 315 gigs free.
Um.... dunno what else to say.
    Except:  HELP!!!

Well, I don't find that the magnifying glass ability is all that much help to me as often what you see in that magnified area is too blurry to be of any use - my eyes aren't wonderful with small things (including small text - I therefore have the text on all the machines I use set to quite large, browser included) so I like large thumbnails too, and usually I find that the big thumbnails are sufficient for me to find what I want.
So that's not been the cause of my BSOD.
By the way what's "ralentize"?  Is it like "pixilate"?
On the BSOD - it sounds to me that there can be more than one cause in Bridge of the BSOD, so it sounds as if Bridge CS4 - is just not stable, period.
The fact that Bridge in CS3 and CS2 worked just fine is a good indicator of this, (to me anyway) as most people seem to be saying so.
I wouldn't like to rely on NVidia's next update fixing this, as I've already updated NVidia once since this began and it didn't help, I now hear that there's now another update out for the NVidia Ge Force 8800 GTS (which is what I have in my PC), so I will be updating that when I get back, but as the last update didn't fix it, I doubt if this one will either, I think it's something that Adobe will have to sort out, but I doubt if they will.
So it looks like those of us with that graphics card are just left without being able to use Bridge properly - if at all.
I've given up on it on my PC and so I'm refusing to use it on my Laptop either, since it would be silly to get so used to it that I can't work without it.
I have tried using Irfanview, but it's functionalitly is comparably limited.  So I'm looking out for something else.
I don't at the moment have PhotoshopCS4 on the laptop and as I left the box with the program in it in my room at Uni I can't install it on the laptop with its different Graphics card (although still an NVidia it's a Ge Force Go 6800, not the 8800 Gts), until I get back next week... not that I really want to, if it's just going to crash the laptop like it does the PC.
I do have Corel's Paintshop Pro Photo X2 on here, but I don't use it anything like as much as I do Photoshop, but at least the Bridge or Browser (they call it "Organiser") on that doesn't kill the entire computer, although it does take up room on the screen instead of opening as a whole new window.
Also PaintShopPro does not save an inferior version of the image when saving as BMP, which I've noticed does now happen with Photoshop CS4 (when comparing .psd or pspimage with bmp).
    emirkill,
I will also try the "enable software rendering" when I get back, that you've used, in case that helps.

  • BIOS Update causes Blue Screen of Death - PLEASE HELP

    PLEASE HELP!!
After recently reformatting a Lenovo 3000 N200 (XP SP3), I downloaded the Lenovo Care (or whatever it's called), which downloaded a whole lot of updates, drivers....
The last thing that was downloaded was a BIOS Update. Before flashing and reprogramming the BIOS, the program created a backup of the old BIOS.
Since the BIOS Update, I can no longer turn on the laptop without the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). When I try to turn it on, it shows the Lenovo startup screen, then goes to the "previous attempt was interrupted" menu (the menu where you can choose 'Safe Mode'...), and no matter which option I choose, it starts to show the XP startup screen (with the progress bar), for 1/2 a second, then displays the BSOD for 1/2 a second (too fast too even read what it says or even get the error code).
What can I do to remedy the situation? Can I somehow access the backup of the old BIOS to restore it? Or is there something else I can do?
BTW, When I click F1 on the Lenovo startup screen (to get into the BIOS settings) it shows the BIOS version to be "68ET35WW (V3.03) - which is apparently the latest version for that laptop

If you have restored the device as new and tested it without using your backup and it is still malfunctioning, then you need to make an appointment with the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service provider, depending on your location, and have the hardware checked.

  • ITunes causing Blue Screen of Death

Okay, I am running Vista, as it was my only option at the computer store. At random times in iTunes it will freeze and cause the blue screen of death. This is a serious problem for me because I have poured a couple hundred dollars into iTunes and now I can't even consistently get the stuff I bought because it may cause my system to crash. I have tried the latest version of iTunes, and the 7.2 version, and they both cause the same problem.
    Thanks

I had the same problem last night. This started when I began downloading podcasts to my iPhone. Received the blue screen when iTunes began to sync with the iPhone. I'm going to try removing the podcast subscriptions and see if the blue screens stop. I have been running other basic Microsoft Office, Photoshop, and standard HP software with no problems until this occurred. I have not had any other blue screens since I bought the HP in June.
As a separate issues, I can not play any podcasts on iTunes for more than a couple a seconds. iTunes terminates prematurely. I'm using the latest iTunes software.

  • PC W7 64bit ICloud causes blue screen of death - Help?

I installed ICloud control panel, etc., onto my 64-bit Windows 7 PC, and it ran OK for a while.  Then got the dreaded "blue screen of death" indicating there was a driver issue and my computer was stopped to avoid damage.
I uninstalled ICloud and the problem went away.  Later, I installed ITunes, and decided I needed the ICloud panel, so I reinstalled it.  Same thing happened.
I'm doing this because I just got iPhone 4S thru AT&T, and want to interface it with my PC.
Any ideas, or is there already a known problem for PC's?
    Thanks.

May sound weird, but are you network drivers up to date?  BSOD is usually a driver issue that is conflicting with Windows.  Go into device manager and disable all non-essential devices, UPS, NICS, USB, scanner, sound, etc and then install the iCloud panel.  If you don't see any BSOD start to enable each device one at a time to pinpoint the culprit.  The control panel itself shouldn't be causing the BSOD.
Is there a filename in the top left of the BSOD that can help?  i.e. ndis.sys or something?

  • Adobe Reader 9 causes blue screen of death

    Hello,
Recently my laptop gave me the blue screen of death. On the blue screen error page it said that Adobe Reader was the cause. And I had the most recent version which I believe is 9.3. I took it the IT department on my college campus and they said that they had several people report the same issue but they haven't found a solution. I tried all of the system recovery tools and still had to do a complete pc restore.
I currently have Adobe Reader 7. Most websites require that I have the most recent version of Adober Reader. However, I dont want the most recent version because I fear my laptop will crash again.
Does anyone know if there has been a solution for this issue?
    Thanks.
    Randa

B.S.O.D. - Usual cause = Bad OS files.
Just because the screen says Adobe Reader caused the problem, doesn't necessarily mean it did. What it's really saying is "your OS crashed while you had Adobe Reader opened and were using it". Analogy: If your car blows out a tire and you crash into a light pole setting off your airbag, it's not the light pole's fault you crashed and blew the airbag. It was just the catlyst for the final result. The bad tire blowing out was the root cause.
I concur that we need the referenced memory module from the BSOD (which should be in the crash log) in order to know why it crashed when Reader was open.
Personal note: I tell people to stay away from system restore unless it's an absolutely, unavoidable last resort. It causes more problems than it solves 99 times out of 100. The other one time, the PC user ends up reformatting and reloading the whole thing anyway. System restore isn't a Fix-it type thing, it's more like an "eraser".
I like the car analogies, so here's one for system restore: Say you go out to run errands in your car. first thing you do is head to the mall. While you're there, someone sideswipes your car and scratches the entire driver's side really badly. You call the insurance company and they say take it to a repair shop. You're running on "E" so you fill up the tank on the way.
Here's where the difference between repair and restore comes in.
If you take the car to a body shop and say repair it, they pull out the dents, fill the scratches in and repaint the car. You get it back and everything is OK again. Now, if they "restored" it per Microsoft system restore standards, you'd get it back with the paint fixed, but they'd also empty your gas tank, because it wasn't full before the wreck, and everything you bought at the mall would disappear too, because you didn't have it prior to discovering your car all scratched up.
Fact is, if you have to do a system restore to fix things on your PC, you're just about ready to reformat and reload the whole thing anyway, it's just a BSOD waiting for the right time to happen.

  • IPod Touch connection causes blue screen of death.

I am using a Dell DHS desktop computer running Windows XP. I want to restore my 2ng generation iPod Touch from a back up in iTunes (9.0.2). I plugged the iPod in and started the restore but about a quarter way through, after the iPod disconnects and reconnects, I got a blue screen of death.
I have no idea why this is happening. Does anybody have a similar problem or, even better, a solution to this?

    Hello Sam,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you had a chance to look at this Apple support document related to this issue? If not, I would start here.

  • IPOD sync causes Blue Screen of Death

Every time I plug in my IPOD to sync I get a message about Drive x not being present. options are cancel, retry or continue. Any option just produces the message again for approx. 3 tries then my entire system goes to Blue Screen of Death and starts dumping memory. If I reboot with the IPOD still connected nothing happens. PC will not reboot until IPOD is disconnected.
    I'm currently at I-Tunes 10.1.2.17
    Thanks

Just in case you're still around, bubba ...
What text and numerical codes are you getting on the blue screen? If it's mentioning a specific filename too, let us know what that is too.
    For example:
    STOP 0x00000023 (0x000f00b5, 0xfc4af978, 0xfc4af7b4, 0xfeff4a6b)
    FATFILESYSTEM

  • IPOD causes "Blue Screen of Death" with physical memory dump

Plugged in the IPOD into USB port on computer. It shows "found USB device" and then 5-10 seconds later I get the blue screen of death and a notification that there is a driver error and a physical memory dump as occurred.
Spent two hours with Apple people and Dell people this morning and nothing. I have updated drivers, flashed my bios, uninstalled and then reinstalled the latest version of Itunes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're just seeing a flash of a blue screen, we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • Itunes causing Blue Screen of Death on Windows 7

Every time I open Itunes 9 it eventually crashes my computer and takes me to the Blue Screen of Death. I recently updated from vista to Windows 7. I've reinstalled itunes repeatedly and tried both 32 and 64-bit installs. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

I had the same problem just now. I've had iTunes on my computer since I got it (the day Windows 7 came-out), and have had the hardest time getting it to run properly. I left it on the fill the library with my music, and came back to see the Blue Screen. I've had that Blue Screen 2 times already, and I'm not sure if the first 2 times were because of iTunes or not (although iTunes wasn't running the first 2 times, so possibly not).

  • Desktop Software causes blue screen of death upon sync attempt

I've had this problem off and on (mostly on) since upgrade to version 6.0 bundle 2647 of the desktop software.  The desktop software starts up normally.  Upon connecting the device (Torch 9800) one of the following occurs:
    1.  The screen on the device flashes with the connection graphic, then computer goes BSOD.
    2.  The device is recognized, asks for my password in DTS, put in password, looks as if synch process is about to start, then computer goes BSOD.
    3.  The device is recognized, password entered, sync proceeds normally.
I get the BSOD about 75% of the time, which means I'm scared to sync very often ... which is a huge problem.  When I do attempt to sync, I've learned the hard way to save all data, shut down all programs, and cross my fingers.
My computer is HP TouchSmart tx2, AMD Turion X2, running Vista - 64.  I have no problems with any other applications.
I've looked on other forums, tried checking for upgrades, patches, etc.  After being a loyal BB proponent since the early days, I'm about ready to leave the reservation.  I can't tolerate having RIM products jacking up my computer (which I use to make a living).
If anybody can help me out, point me in the right direction, I certainly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

Any option just produces the message again for approx. 3 tries then my entire system goes to Blue Screen of Death and starts dumping memory.
Just in case you're still around, bubba ...
What text and numerical codes are you getting on the blue screen? If it's mentioning a specific filename too, let us know what that is too.
    For example:
    STOP 0x00000023 (0x000f00b5, 0xfc4af978, 0xfc4af7b4, 0xfeff4a6b)
    FATFILESYSTEM
    fastfat.sys

  • Yoga 11s W8.1 Restart causes Blue Screen Of Death & Solution

After upgrade to Windows 8.1 (all the latest drivers) my Yoga 11s ends up in an endless "Blue Screen Of Death" when I select "Restart". This does not happen if I select "Shutdown" and then manually power on the Yoga 11s.
I found a solution to the problem: Disable "Fast Boot" in the BIOS.
If disabled the "Restart" takes longer but it work.
It seems to be a problem with drivers I guess.
    My question is:
    1) Do others have the same problem (or is it a HW defect)?
    2) Does Lenovo know about this problem and will better Windows 8.1 drivers be released?
    Thanks!
