Hardware Compatibility List for installation of solaris 10 on DELL units

Hi,
I have a requirement to install solaris 10 on a few Dell servers and desktops.
I was unable to install on Dell PowerEdge SC1435 and noticed it is not on the HCL for Dell servers. This unit has dual core AMD Opteron processors. Is the HCL kept up to date, I noticed items 58 and 59 had the same description (SC1430). Should I abondon further attempts and go to the SC2950 which is on the HCL?
Also on the desktop side, both my choices, Dell OptiPlex 745 dual core, and Dell Precision 690 dual core are not on the HCL. A possible alternative on the HCL is the Precision 670.
Any info would be apprecitate.

I am also having the same issue on a Dell Poweredge SC1435. I get a "ERROR: The disc you inserted is not a Solaris OS/DVD" right after I select the machine to automatically reboot after it finishes installing. It then kicks me out to a Unix shell prompt and I notice that the CD is no longer mounted when I do a "df -k". I've done some research on the web and none of the proposed solutions worked. I'm assuming this has something to do with hardware conflicts with the machine and the fact that the machine is not on the Hardware Compat List yet.
Plus, I know my cd media is good, since I was able to install Solaris 10 x86 perfectly fine on my Dell Poweredge SC420. I'm using the latest Solaris 10 11/06 CD media.

Hello
I wander where to get media list for installation of an PI7.1 system based on NW7,4
Thank you in advance

Hi Jan - Something is not clear..I don't think you can install PI 7.1 from net weaver 7.4.
For PI 7.1 you have separate installation media which is not part of net weaver bundle..
Incase you are planning to install PI 7.4(part of net weaver bundle) then have a look at the below document
Download and Installation of Process Orchestration 7.31
(it's the same process for 7.4)

• Build.vi does not output Generated files list for installer

In LV 2011, Build.vi does not output a "Generated files" list when used on an installer. Example attached. When run on my system, "Generated files" is an empty array and "error out" shows no errors or warnings. The built installer can be found on disk, so I know the build succeeded.
I critically need to know the target folder for my built installer so I can use it in an automated build tool. Assuming this is a real bug, can someone help me with a workaround that doesn't require an operator to point the VI to the target path?

• K9A Platinum - Hardware Compatibility List

I was just wondering if anyone know how long it typically takes for MSI to release their Test Reports after releasing a new motherboard.
I am interested in building a new machine using the K9A Platinum, but I would really like to be able to see the Test Report before I proceed.
Thanks.

Thanks for the replies!
MSI's response was to check the memory manufacturers websites and see what they say is compatible. So I've decided to go with a dual channel kit from Corsair.
CORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X1024A-6400 - Retail
On a slightly related note, I couldn't find anything about it on the site so thought I'd ask here before emailing MSI again through that complicated form they have. Is the K9A motherboard compatible with ATX 2.2 version powersupplies? They have the missing pin, number 16 I beleive. Eliminated a 5v line on the ps connector.
Basically, anyone using this motherboard and a PSU with the missing pin?
Thanks all. If you can't tell, I definitely like to do my research before purchasing/building.

• Video driver for Compaq 1240 (solaris 8)

I've installed Solaris 8 on my Laptop, a compaq P 1240,
The videocard is a neo magic. This driver is not in the list. Are there any drivers I can use..??

Always check the Hardware Compatibility List on Sun website for
information on compatible hardware on Solaris.
http://soldc.sun.com/support/certify/info.html
For video devices, you can look under:
http://soldc.sun.com/support/drivers/hcl/8/fcs/BOOK.htm
There is also a site for drivers downloads:
http://soldc.sun.com/support/drivers/index.html
Specific drivers are usually provided by the vendors. Therefore, you should actually go to S3 for drivers on Solaris.

Perhaps your hardware / graphics adapter is not supported by Solaris 10.
Take a look at the Solaris Hardware Compatibility List:
http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/
Now, no need to download any bootable ISO image. Just run this Device Detect tool:

2) How to SMI Label/Format a disk while OS Installation in Solaris 11.1?
As we know that ZFS is the default filesystem in Solaris 11.
We have seen in the Oracle documentation that for rpool below are recommended:
- A disk that is intended for a ZFS root pool must be created with an SMI label, not an EFI label.
- Create root pools with slices by using the s* identifier.
- ZFS applies an EFI label when you create a storage pool with whole disks.
- In general, you should create a disk slice with the bulk of disk space in slice 0.
I have seen the solution that using format -e, we change the labelling but all the data will be lost, whats the way to apply a SMI Label/Format on a rpool disks while OS Installation itself.
Please provide me the steps to SMI Label a disk while installaing Solaris 11.1 OS.

Oracle recommends below things on rpool: (thats reason wanted to apply SMI Label)

You can't get there with GUID/GPT.
There are tips on making a USB flash device that is bootable.
You can set aside a small 6GB partition somewhere and put Windows 7 installer there and run it WHILE IN Windows.
Windows Vista can be upgraded in place to 7 RC.
You'll need NTFS (30-50GB).
Windows doesn't support FW for booting.
You can create a drive that has Master Boot Record.

• Is there any list for out of the box portlets that come with portal installation.

Is there any list for out of the box portlets that come with portal installation?
Ramesh

Yes - it's in the online help, on the Learning About Your Portal : About Portlets page. Here is the content:
Portlets Created Upon Install
The following portlets (and their necessary portlet Web services and Remote Servers) are created when you install the portal:
Folder Expertise:This portlet displays the list of folders for which the user is an expert. It is added to the User Profile page by default.
General Information:This portlet displays the default Profile Page. It is added to the User Profile page default.
Managed Communities:This portlet displays the list of communities managed by the user. It is added to the User Profile page by default.
Portal Login:This portlet allows users to log in to the portal. You probably want to add this to the guest user's home page so that users can log in from the default page displayed when they navigate to your portal.
Portal Search:This portlet allows users to search your portal and access their saved searches. Users might want to add this to their home page for easy access to their saved searches.
The following portlet templates (and any necessary portlet web Services and Remote Servers) are created when you install the portal:
Community Links:This template is used by the portal to create portlets that display the links saved in a Community Knowledge Directory folder. To learn more about Community Links Portlets, see Community Links Portlets.
Content Snapshot:This template is used by the portal to create portlets that display the results of a Snapshot Query.
You can also install the following functionality as part of the Optional Enterprise Web Components:
[urlStored Content:This portlet template allows you to create portlets that display stored content that is periodically refreshed. You might use this type of portlet to display content that is resource-intensive or takes a long time to generate. To learn more about Stored Content portlets, see Stored Content Portlets.
[urlXML Source:This portlet template allows you to create portlets that can collect XML content from an external source and display it in the portal as HTML. To learn more about XML Source portlets, see XML Source Portlets.
